Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Umashi for all his quirks and relative issues with sticky to certain norms was a simple man at his core. So simple in fact that he hadn’t exactly attempted to pack his bags before preparing to embark on a journey to Suna. Thinking that he’d have a quick moment to dash to his office and grab a few more things before leaving, he was surprised when he was greeted by his secretary just as he was locking his door. “I’m sorry to disturb you Umashi-sama, but the village council has informed me that you are being requested before the Council of the Republic.” Momentarily confused, Umashi found himself a taken aback when he realized just who the Council of the Republic was.

Having thought that the entire premise of the Republic of the Fire Country was shattered after the war, Umashi realized that he’d been so focused on his own agenda that he’d failed to see the village council jockeying for power right before him. Careful to mask his irritation, Umashi nodded.
“Thank you. I’ll be with them shortly.” Letting the woman make her way around the corner, Umashi shook his head and sighed. He really didn’t want to have to deal with this but once again he found himself bound by duty rather than personal preference. Going back into his office to put on his official Kage robes and hat, he made his way to the large meeting room of the Republic. Though he didn’t know what to expect, what he did affirm at least for himself was that quitting was not an option.

Asuka said that it was important and appropriate for Yomi to make an appointment before trying to see the Hokage, but, propriety aside, he was able to summon her when he wanted so she felt it only fair that she could see him when she needed. Of course, Yomi was reasonable and would not do this unwarranted, so, Asuka let it slide. She was nice enough to let it slide, again, when Yomi pushed back their long ago, planned for months, prearranged date for the sake of work; Yomi did not deserve Asuka in the slightest. Besides all that, had Yomi gone to the Hokage's office with the intention of making an appointment for later, she would have been told that she could not be seen at all today since Umashi was not there.

Fantastic.

His secretary was lovely, however, and said that Yomi would be able to catch him before he went in for his next meeting, provided she kept it extremely brief. Of course, Yomi was not prone to beating around the bush anyway, so this was perfect for her.

The Goddess was told she would be able to find him in the Great Room and gave her detailed directions on how to get there. As Yomi turned down the hall, she saw the Hokage at its mid-way point. Smoothing down her dress, she put some pep in her step, to catch up with him and match his stride. Suddenly she wished that she changed her shoes to something that was more walking appropriate.

“A moment, if you please, Hokage-sama.” Yomi said as they walked together, eyeing his official robes. The newly appointed Medical Chief knew it was a meeting he was attending, but, what exactly called for his fancy official attire? Perhaps she should have listened to Asuka after all and made a proper appointment. Too late.

Umashi may have been the Hokage but he wasn't blind to noticing a figured woman asking for his attention. Fighting back the easy to fall in snare of getting flustered, Umashi instead took the big brother approach to things. "Woman thou art lost!" Umashi's snarky comment probably fell on a deaf ear but as they continued to walk he saw that she was keeping pace with him. Shaking his head, he tried once again to try and get her to book an appointment for a later time. "I'm kind of busy at the moment but if you can be brief then perhaps we can walk and talk. " Thinking that that option was for the best, Umashi would walk closer to the assembly room and stop just short of the doors that would lead him in to the great room. Making a visible point to look at Yomi without looking at her, Umashi would listen to her concerns while also keeping an ear to sounds of the meeting that was soon to take place.

It couldn't have been longer than a few seconds, perhaps a minute or two but another late guest passed by the Kage and the Chief and gave the two of them an almost disgusted look. Thinking the gesture rude, Umashi starred daggers into the man. The extra charm of the Hokage seemed to work because the man quickly straightened his posture and made his way through the double doors. Catch just the tail end of someone's rant, the first question that played through Umashi's mind was why was someone's microphone up so high if the meeting hadn't begun yet. Then the words that he'd heard began to slowly play themselves in the back of his mind.
"To quote the young people . . . hashtag, he isn't my Hokage! Our vote as a prefecture is for the impeachment of this false Hokage!" As his mind caught up to the words, he couldn't help but to also overhear what sounded like many voices agreeing with the man who'd just spoken. Looking to Yomi as he realized that she too probably caught the tail end of the conversation, Umashi excused himself and quickly turned to walk through the double doors and into a spotlight that he never saw coming.

Looking around, hundreds of pairs of eyes all focused in on him as he turned towards what looked to be a panel made up of the village council of Konoha and the likes of a few other faces that he didn't recognize. He couldn't quite make out who it was that spoke but one of the men motioned towards Umashi and spoke up.
"Ah, and just like clockwork our errant Kage emerges! It's a pleasure for you to finally join us." The smug tone of the main produced another chuckle from the audience and then the man pointed to an area towards the back of the room. "Your seat is towards the back with all the other latecomers." Appalled, shocked and embarrassed all in one moment, Umashi wanted to voice his concern or at least scare the man with a display of power but the fact that Yomi wasn't too far behind reminded him to the fact that he wasn't alone at the moment and that many eyes were watching the scene play out. Fixing his face, Umashi made his way towards the back of the back of the room as another prefecture representative was called before the assembly to give a testamony. Brooding in his thoughts, the only thing that Umashi could come to think about was the fact that he'd walked headlong into a political firing squad and he had no way of getting out of the way.

The woman opened her mouth to speak, ignoring the brief exchange of a passerby and Umashi. She was here to speak her piece and be gone, not wonder why some rando was ice-grilling the Hokage.

“I have…” As the passerby opened the door she caught the very end of the vitriol spat by some man speaking ill of the Hokage. She took a step back, aware that what she was about to say could wait and let the Hokage leave. Her curiosity was surely piqued now, and she chose to follow behind him. Inside there was a speaker admonishing the Hokage for being late. Was that the way to start this…whatever this was? This was the second time that she witnessed someone being overtly disrespectful to the Hokage in her presence. These people had no sense of decorum at all it seemed. Or, maybe they did and Umashi had been ignoring them for some time and they were finally sick of his shit. She would find out.

Yomi walked slower now and purposefully close to Umashi. There was certainly enough space to go around him but she placed a hand on his back as an exaggerated method of getting by him. The touch was an act of acknowledgement, an insistence for him to just sit down. Something that Asuka would do for her in this sort of situation especially since she didn’t take too kindly to disrespect. Right now, she would do that for him, but, it was up to him if everyone else here ended up dead. Perhaps his thought process didn’t even take him down that road and Yomi was just projecting or simply hoping.

The woman didn’t know what this was supposed to be, but, it seemed to her like a lynching of the highest order disguised as a performance evaluation, based on how these people were talking and behaving. Truthfully, she didn’t know if they were justified in their anger with him, but she was willing to give her Sennin the benefit of the doubt. In her interactions with him, he always appeared fair, but, that didn’t mean their interactions with him mimicked hers. Still, nothing in her mind immediately brought up the need for such a drastic measure as impeachment.

The Goddess walked to the rear of the room and sat, cross legged next to Umashi but didn’t look at him. She remained with her eyes forward letting him stew in whatever seething embarrassment he had about this whole situation without her feeling the need to make it worse.

The testimony began, given by some person who probably thought more of themselves than they should have.

“Interesting” The woman said to no one in particular with her hands folded in her lap. “They are a vocal bunch.”

Nodding his head, Umashi agreed, they surely were a vocal bunch. About to say something rather humorous about where they could stuff their words, another diplomat of some sort from some prefecture was called to the stand and this one seemed to stare directly in Umashi's direction as he pointed and called the Hokage out. "Umashiashikabihikoji . . . if that's even his real name is a fraud! What many of you may already know is that Yamaguchi Kami fired him shortly before the Civil War broke out. So how is it that he was voted fit enough to lead Konoha? Better yet, he still consorts with nuke-nin and other unsavory characters, even allowing them to join the very forces of Konoha that should be protecting us all." Though the mans words were brief, his stare down of Umashi was anything but. "We as a prefecture also vote for the removal of this supposed Hokage." As a gavel was slammed, Umashi's vision started to blur as the accusations began to come one after another.

It was clear that he had made enemies but at no other point had the village council ever brought these accusations to his attention. At no point had any complaints ever crossed his desk and now as if a lamb to the slaughter he was forced to properly sit and endure all of the testimonies of those that would rather him vacate the rank instead of continuing to lead the village astray. With smug looks on their faces, the village council allowed each and every prefecture to speak, all thirty-six in all. Despite not wanting to seem weak, there came a point when the Hokage thought that he'd burst and Umashi respectfully leaned over to Yomi and excused himself.
"I'll be back." Getting up and walking to the restroom, finding that the large multi user room was clear, Umashi locked the door and leaned up against the wall as he breathed a sigh of relief.

Though he was trying to play it tough, there was a clear shaking of his hands and moving to the sink he cut the water on high and began to splash water on his face to calm down and steady his nerves. Reaching for a paper-towel, Umashi's hand bumped into another's and before he could open his eyes he started to leap into an offensive strike before a calm voice stopped.
"Relax Umashi-sama, we're not here to harm you. In fact, you could say that we have a proposition for you." Opening his eyes and taking in the sight of a finely dressed hooded individuals. Though he was unable to see their faces, Umashi instantly recognized the calling card of the Black Scorpions. Sizing them up, he knew that there would be more effort expended in getting out of the room that he'd locked himself into than he wanted to deal with. Opting to listen to their proposition. "Never mind how awkward this looks . . . you have my attention." Catching a smirk from the one seemingly in charge, the young adolescent sounding voice began to speak.

"You're in trouble. They're talking of removing you as Hokage because to be quite frank, you've stunk up the place with your lack of political backbone. We the "Black" have a number of votes that we can turn to your favor . . . but we'll need a favor in return." Not liking the way in which the proposition was so nonchalantly expressed, Umashi cocked his head to the side and played hardball. "What if I do the right thing and say no?" Hardly intending to say no, Umashi tried to at least show a measure of backbone now but the Black weren't buying his false bravado. "You love the Fire Country too much to watch it fall into chaos once more at the loss of another Hokage." Exposing enough of a wrist to look at a watch, the voice cursed under its breath and looked back to Umashi from beyond the void of the hood. "We've an important asset in one of the prefecture prisons. You'll make a way from them to get free and assist in their extraction. Oh . . . and we want a 5% stake in the transcontinental railroad investment that you and Kumogakure are working on."

Snorting, Umashi chuckled and waved away the demand. "That's two demands and you've smoking something just as black as your heart if you think that I'd agree to that. Get the fu-" Holding a finger up to silence the Hokage, Umashi started to notice the lot of the gang fading into the shadows as the voice lightly chuckled. "You'll bend the knee Lord Hokage, now hurry along before somebody starts to notice that you're gone. Don't you have a hot date waiting on you?" The verbal slap almost caused Umashi to recoil but just as they appeared, the Black Scorpion were gone and Umashi noticed the running water that had seemingly been on the entire time. Making his way back to to his seat, he'd find that only a few minutes had passed by but the short meeting that he'd had still reverberated in his mind. Sitting down, next to Yomi, Umashi watched and waited as he seemed to walk in right as someone on the stage was saying something nice about him for a change. Leaning over to whisper to Yomi, Umashi asked, "What did I miss?"

Yomi smirked at this farce as she let Umashi by. These…people, so bold in their accusations and righteous in their tone, yet none would be able to sit as humbly as Umashi was doing now if the shoe was on the other foot. The accusations left their lips with such ease, certain that what they were saying was true. Truth, as Yomi knew, was never as clear cut as these people would have everyone believe. They called him out on things he knew, but didn’t share, things he didn’t know, but as they claim, he should’ve known, and called him out on things the Goddess was not sure that anyone would’ve guessed, if not explicitly told or had borne witness too. Yet they sat here, indignant and ignorant. Oblivious to the subtleties of what it meant to be a part of a village, to run a village, and to managing the ninja of said village.

Another person with a slow drawl chimed in.

“What I will say, and I will keep this brief since my fellow colleagues have mimicked my thoughts overall is that the Hokage should, above all else, know the minds of all who he leads. It is not acceptable or tolerated that he is caught unawares.”

Yomi licked her lips and shifted in her seat, noting how uncomfortable it was to sit on this hard seating, her pup infinitely more comfortable than this. She refocused on this character assassination. Leading a village of people was no easy task. It required a delicate yet swift approach, to keep these ungrateful swine safe from things they couldn’t dream up, and yet, they pointed the finger. Did they forget the village was filled with people, actual people with feelings and agendas of their own? Some with big personalities, some who rather just go with the flow, some so cunning in their movements that to the untrained eye could never hope to see the snake before it bit them? Would they even notice the bite? Some misunderstood and some were keenly aware of it all and choose to hold their tongue until the right time? The most astute Kage couldn’t help to manage that all perfectly, a Goddess could, perhaps... In Yomi’s eyes, Umashi’s best bet could only be that their collective Will of Fire would rise above all the bureaucracy and politics to keep the village stable and hospitable. Since she arrived here, the Will of Fire even burned in her a bit.

Someone, severely melanin deficient spoke up, practically snarling into their microphone.

“What kind of leadership is this?! Sennin are being MURDERED by other Sennin or abandoning the village all together. He is playing loose and fast with our lives! The village is suffering and it’s all being done on his watch and yet he has NO plans to circumvent this crisis. I say we cut out the infection before the whole village dies!”

Yomi uncharacteristically chortled, but, what she was hearing was so ridiculous that it brought her out of character. While it was true that some people left on sabbatical, like Kis-…Yume, and Yuuto, as she was informed, had unceremoniously left the village, Yomi couldn’t say she knew a Sennin who was murdered by another. While, that was concerning, it brought up a point that no one seemed to want to bring up while they were busy admonishing the Hokage. What was THEIR alternative? They seemed to enjoy this public flogging, but none had offered any solution besides impeaching Umashi.

That would not solve the problem of a “dying village” or magically fix the social skills of her fellow ninja, if the murder bit was true. Not a single suggestion of restructuring or perhaps an open forum for the people of the village and village council members to air out their grievances in an effort to fix these alleged issues within the village without fear of censure or impeachment. Did they think so little of the people in the village that the option wasn't even worth exploring? After all it was clear to them that there was something amiss yet they did no investigating, as far as Yomi could tell, only placed the blame.

“They all are marching to the same beat. Everything is your fault. By the way, did you know it was your fault, that ninjas are people who happen to ninja?” Yomi replied to Umashi as she scooted over to let him sit. Was that a joke from her? Did she laugh earlier? Who even was she right now? The Goddess waited until he was seated before she asked a follow-up question.

“Which of our Sennin killed another Sennin?” Yomi finally turned to look in his eyes as she wondered who it could be while simultaneously wondering if this was an open forum for everyone to speak. While a comment from her would put her on their radar, this coordinated ambush seemed to suspicious for a Goddess not to pass her divine judgement.

Leaning over Umashi was just about to reply when the commotion at the last mans words seemed to get the best of the room. There was shouting and fist raising and general chaos began to ensue. Trying to bring some order to the room, the loud sound of a gavel was heard over all the voices as order was soon established back in the room. Standing up, one of the older Konoha council members who seemed to be serving as a judge of sorts along with a few others began to speak. "As many of you may or may not heard, it is true that one of the ANBU Sennin of Konoha did murder the Main Branch Sennin. That ANBU Sennin was Masaru Yuuto, a former shinobi of Kumo and one who the Hokage repeatedly protected despite the warning signs that the man was unstable in his appreciation of Fire Country laws, customs and norms. Unfortunately it was our own Hakuren who fell by his hand. We admit, this is but another blunder of the Hokage as he rushed headlong into an alliance with Kumogakure before securing our own prosperity as a nation. He then proceeded to force our own shinobi to stay in Kumogakure as he brought . . . trained criminals in their wake."

The man would go on to state that the sheer one sided treaty that Umashi had signed had effectively sold the Fire Country to the Lightning Country for mere pocket change and that the railroad effort would destroy the national economy. There was talk of secession by an Uchiha controlled prefecture to other allies and possibly the forming of a new country from the ashes. On and on the men and women of the assembly continued on their tangents and soap boxes and through it all Umashi stayed relatively silent, soaking in all of their words and doing his best to keep from matching their animosity. Muttering to Yomi, he sought her aid just in case things went too far overboard. "If I go to jail tonight would you promise to pay my bail?" Much like any sane person would assume, if these men and women had such an issue with Umashi then it was pretty telling that they had allowed things to go on this long. it was clear that they were just looking for a scapegoat in all of the ruckus and Umashi was just the obvious target because of his rank. When at last the last person had spoken their peace it seemed, the same older council member stood up and called for Umashi.

"Just as the assembly was able to voice their concerns and opinions. You are free to speak up on your behalf or call any witness that you may." As all eyes turned to Umashi and he stood and began to walk towards the front of the large room. Requesting that Yomi stay with a simply hand gesture for her not go with him, he walked to the front as all eyes locked on to him on the stage. Looking out at all of their faces, all of their scared eyes, he recognized that for all of their backbiting and silent protest against him, that they were just scared individuals with little power to affect change alone. Recognizing that they needed numbers in order to say anything to him, he gained confidence in knowing that for all the things that they accused him of, that they'd not be so quick to replace him. To put it plainly, they couldn't make another Umashi.

However, in his leaning of this fact, Umashi gained a boldness that he suddenly wished to capitalize on. For a moment he dared to defy the binds that he had cast on him, to shake off his shackles and cut his foot loose. It was doubtful that he could doge the Black Scorpions if they'd set their eyes on him but a vulnerable Kage was a liability in most respects and Umashi would rather risk it all than to stand in front of the firing squad by way of silent protest. Opening his mouth to speak, Umashi forced the hands of all that were eyeing the pot. Throwing the table over, he'd reset the game, and give them all what they wanted, a great ending to a good hunt.
"If I . . . should stay. I would only be in . . . your way." Letting the words reverberate in the room. Though he hadn't meant to, Umashi allowed his normally cool voice to touch a bit on the deeper register. As he expected, there were some eyes that grew in anticipation of the thought of him stepping down. Steadily feeding the trolls, Umashi continued to give them what they asked for.

"So if you want, I'll go . . . but I know, that I'll think of you all every step of the way." Admittedly, Umashi hammed up the dramatic side of things during his short speech. Like a sacred secret being revealed, a gasp ran through the audience as Umashi didn't bother to close out his performance before he nodded to the judging council and took a step to the side of the main microphone as he dropped his head and waited for the verdict. Officially it was still up to the Council of Konoha to accept any resignation that he made unless he wanted to be declared a Nuke-nin. Giving the nod of approval, the older man stood and issued the beginning of the thirty-six prefecture vote. Hearing papers shuffled around and murmurings given. One by one the various prefectures began to stand and then sit down as they declared their votes out loud by way of microphone for all to hear. Though he wasn't trying to, Umashi noticed that the odd occurrence of random prefectures, which had little to do with Konoha affairs either voted in favor of keeping him around or simply abstained. Like a wildfire that caught on, many others began to notice the trend and the whispers became almost deafening. Clearly something was amiss for all the lack of evidence that had been provided for why Umashi should have remained the Hokage.

As if on cue, even the judging Council of Konoha seemed to catch on and it was then that the final vote was cast, an abstaining to vote from a prefecture that was technically a penal colony just off the coast of the Fire Country to the south. Rising, the entire twelve member Council of Konoha stood and it was then that Umashi noticed a strange thirteenth member that he didn't recognize. Speaking up, the older gentleman who seemed to be the speaker of the group motioned towards a younger woman who in turn spoke.
"We have reached a three-way tie of twelve prefectures for impeachment, twelve against impeachment and twelve abstaining. Officially Konohagakure as the capital of the Fire Country holds a deciding vote in all ties of the Fire Country Republic. Collectively all twelve members of the council will cast their votes and the Hokage, being the thirteenth member of the village council will end all tie breakers between us and our vote will collectively go to break the greater Republic's ties. However, since the Hokage is the matter of the vote, he cannot be the deciding vote and we thus have to appeal to our newly elected Daimyo, Hyuuga Hiro. Daimyo-sama, you have the floor." Bowing out, the woman along with the rest of the village council sat as the young looking Daimyo kept standing, smiled and then brushed back a strand of his long hair. A bit of a pretty boy if Umashi could call it, the mans words seemed to drip like water as he spoke in a soothing tone.

"Many of you may not know me as I was just recently elected after the the deposition of our previous Daimyo. I have Umashi-sama to thank for that. In fact, there are a great deal many things to thank him for if you all will recall. He led the majority of our forces both before, during and after the Civil War. He earned us a lasting relationship with the Earth and the Lightning Countries. He's bolstered our shinobi numbers and has been a driving force in our cutting edge medical shinobi program. Did you know that he recently helped to secure our first and only nuclear power plant? Or perhaps were you aware that he's secured permits to begin work on the research of nuclear fission to enable clean, self-renewing energy for every man, woman and child in the country? Perhaps you were aware that he's painstakingly been working to solve the Cold War that's been raging for twenty years on Fire-Star Island. Of course you know that that's the main reason why he wished to pursue peace with Kumogakure and the greater Lightning Country, because they have influence over the Bear Country." The way that the man dropped facts as if they were simple knowledge that even the smallest child understood was uncanny.

Surely he wasn't old enough, or even in the loop to know of all of these facts, and even if he was, there were others in the room who should have known but had been too busy trying to usurp Umashi to care of his adventures. Focusing back on the man's words, Umashi listened on, his head still dropped.
"Surely you'll remember that even the former Tsuchikage promoted our very own Hokage to the rank of Sennin, or that with a Tsuchikage that Umashi helped to form the Red Line in order to protect you, me, us, this great and wonderful nation from the samurai . . . you do recall these things no? Or is it that we wish to focus on his being a pirate turned shinobi, or the fact that the people that he assumes will do their jobs, simply flake out on him . . . much like some of you are doing today. Indeed, let us be frank, some of those among us would rather cry foul ball without understanding the rules of the game and worse yet, coming in to the game mid play. Yes, some would rather have things handed to them simply because they do the basic things very well and very quickly. Be assured my fellow countrymen and countrywomen . . . heavy is the head that wears the crown, and many are not worthy to even look upon it. My mother used to say that "if you aren't a part of the solution then you're a part of the problem" and truer words have rarely been spoken." Taking a breath, the man smirked as he looked to Umashi who met his gaze and then to the crowd. "My vote is that the Nidaime Hokage Umashi will not vacate the rank and will instead be joined by all thirty-six prefectures, including the village of Konohagakure in the further stabilization of our nation and our continued development as a leading nation on the world stage."

Like a spark, the igniting speech of the Daimyo spread like wildfire in the room but none dared to speak up. Umashi too was surprised and suddenly wanting to get to know the man whom he'd never had the pleasure of meeting or even knowing about. The question of when he'd been elected Daimyo was also a matter of high importance because as far as Umashi knew, the title of Daimyo was always passed down by lineage. If in fact Hiro was the beginning of a new line of Daimyo then surely he'd made his mark on this day. Someone didn't seem to agree with his words though, because a comotion started up in the back of the room, towards where Yomi was sitting. Two men began to argue loudly, and before the guards on duty could approach them to break it up, one of the men yelled out and jerked away from the other. In seconds the by all accounts calm meeting erupted in to full on chaos as the sound of gun shots filled the air after words were yelled that Umashi and few others would hardly every forget.

"Get your hand out of my pocket!"<i></i>

As Umashi returned and was about to spill the tea, someone else decided to drop the entire kettle. It now made sense. The reinstatement of Takeshi to ANBU, the sudden disappearance of Yuuto, and the fact that Umashi needed to go to Sand. The pieces started to fit together nicely, although her timeline was out of whack and she didn’t really know if Yuuto left because he killed Hakuren, only that he did kill her. This dirty laundry was not meant for everyone’s ears and she figured she would never hear the truth of that situation unless she came across Yuuto again to ask him. At that time, she would give the former ANBU Sennin her name.

The Goddess was quite flummoxed at the statement from these people. Weren’t we all murderers? Was there such a thing as a “good murderer”? Intentions aside, at the end of the day all ninja took lives eventually, and she couldn’t figure out how they made everything appear so clear cut when the logic in them couldn’t possibly be that faulty.

Yomi answered Umashi with a small smile and a nod. Of course, the Hokage seemed much more level headed than these people and yet, he had to be the one worried about being imprisoned. On the other hand, were there people here skilled enough to ensnare him after he killed half the room and that was what he was worried about? Either way, this whole thing was absurd and she couldn’t wait for this charade to be over.

And then, the vote was cast. It seemed more people liked to talk shit and complain rather than provide thoughtful solutions since the vote came out as a three-way tie. Of course, it would. All their bickering in circles, no one really interested in sticking to the rhetoric they happily spewed earlier. They were better off sending a strongly worded letter to Umashi than to drag him down here to try to embarrass him.

The Lord Daimyo spoke to the room, providing them with great reminders of all the good the Hokage had done in his time. In summation, he basically stated that Umashi pulled out the pot when they were all out of options. In a beautiful display of troll-counterpointing, Yomi was pleased that someone in this room would come to his defense. Better them than her Sennin, he’d just look like he was begging.

As if it were scene from a mostly historically accurate movie, shots rang out next to her. In a dizzying display of speed, the woman kicked off her shoes as if it were reflexive, and darted from the bench. She suddenly felt naked without a weapon. This would teach her not to walk around without a weapon ever again. She didn’t bother to check out what was actually going on, that was not her style. Self-preservation kicked in and she didn’t care if all these sycophants died here and now. However, since she was here, she couldn’t just leave the Hokage. Well, she could, but that would raise a lot of questions. She cleanly moved through the scattering crowd, with her eyes fixated on him. If this was some sort of ploy to get him out in the open to do, Rei knows what, it worked. However, these people wouldn’t really try to assassinate him in a semi-private forum in order to prove a point, would they?

She sucked her teeth, knowing that they were quite possibly this fucking dumb. She made her way to Umashi’s side and whatever he attempted to do, she intervened. He was not here to die, nor was he here to save these people who were, not 10 seconds ago, trying to send him to the hanged man’s noose. Karma was a stone cold bitch.

“This way, Hokage-sama.” She grabbed his arm, with her Goddess strength and “gently” guided him to the exit, using her body to shield him as best she could. If he wanted her to go back and save someone she would, however, her focus was that she didn’t get blamed for not preventing him from getting killed.

Like most instances of shock, Umashi didn't at first realize that he had been shot. Instinctively attempting to move to shield the village council. Instead what he found was that the Daimyo moved to do the same and as a Hyuuga, he was able to perfectly shield all thirteen of them from danger. It was then that Umashi noticed the searing pain in his chest. Moving a hand out to steady himself, he found the ever ready Yomi at his side as she tried to usher him out of the large room. Quickly making their way to the door to exit, they ran directly into a crowd equally trying to do the same. The entire scene was a chaotic mess and as Umashi tried to concentrate enough to focus on healing himself, he cursed out loud when soon he found that he and Yomi were surrounded but who he assumed to be the Black Scorpions. In fact, most of the assumed civilians who were trying to leave were in fact members of the gang and turning around, they all aimed their weapons at the two and attacked. Stumbling, Umashi tried to push Yomi away but the blood that he'd been losing caught up to him and he tripped.

One assassin was quicker than the rest and as he aimed and fired an arrow at Umashi, the Hokage held up his hand to defend himself. Perhaps it was his anger at the impeachment ceremony or the fact that the Black Hand were pulling out every trick in the book to make it look like they hadn't just finished pulling strings for the Hokage in order to keep him on their payroll. For most young chakra attuned people, the awakening of newfound powers often came at the expense of strong emotional outburst. Though Umashi was far past the point of adolescence, his anger at being manipulated manifested in a mantle of fire cloaking him and Yomi from harm. Hitting the large aura of chakra, Umashi barely registered a thought as he made a clutching motion with his open hand causing the man to spontaneously catch on fire. Fighting past the pain of the what he assumed was the bullet still lodged in his chest, Umashi got to his feet and with a waving motion caused a wall of fire to take out two other assailants. Umashi had control over the basic shinobi elements, that much was true, but even with his affinity for making things blow up he hadn't manifested this level of control before. Like a raging fire, Umashi gave himself over to the ever strong emotion of rage and in a showy display he executed each and every Black Scorpion member that approached them.

Like a sea of blackness for every one that he seemed to engulf in flames, another two took their place. Akin to a fly buzzing around his ear, in the back of his mind, Umashi knew that the building that they were in was made to withstand the typical shinobi elemental chakra attack, but the flames that he was spewing out were stronger than average. In the same way that a child played with a toy car or a doll, Umashi was haphazardly weaving a barely controllable flame like it was a simple rubber ball. He knew, despite wanting to show all in attendance that he was nobody to be trifled with, that ultimately he'd have to get out of the auditorium before he burned down the entire structure. There were many tricks that Umashi could rely on to get out of the auditorium but none would get them out without a trace. It was in that moment that the darkness of the clothing that the Black Scorpion gave him an idea.

"I'm going to need you to trust me Yomi." Grabbing her hand, Umashi made a hand sign and pulled her body close to his. As he inhaled and exhaled slowly, he smelled the fragrant scent on her skin. Running through the basics of elemental manipulation, Umashi remembered the feeling that he'd experienced when he'd absorbed a measure of the previous Daimyo's power. He'd manipulated the shadows before and needing two parts fire and one part water chakra. Not entirely sure if the trick would work, Umashi decided to use his chaotic newfound pyrokinetic to make the shadow as large as he could make it. What he didn't expect was to overshoot it. Spreading out like a wave, the chakra shadow that Umashi created emanated from his body and began to create a large dome like structure around him and Yomi. The only problem was that it also brought along the Black Scorpion goons as well. Stumbling a bit, the feeling of creating a chakra shadow when compared to his pyromaniac display before was like a refreshing glass of lemonade on a hot day. Umashi's core temperature began to cool like the slowly darkening dome that he'd created and he shivered. It was clear by the way that the Black Scorpions tore after him and Yomi that they'd been paid handsomely to die for a perpetuated lie. Despite knowing that Yomi was a capable fighter, the somewhat chivalrous Umashi didn't let go of her hand and though he was prepared to fight his way even in the darkness, the blood curdling screams of the assassins filled even him with dread.

Though he couldn't quite make out what was going on in the darkness, he could feel it, and as if they had a mind of their own, the shadows began to attack and rip apart the gang members as if they were mere pieces of paper. Shuddering, Umashi tried to speak to Yomi.
"Time to go home." Blood loss, an elevated blood pressure and manipulating new chakra styles without training had drained him of all power. He wasn't sure if she even heard what he said, but with few thoughts clearly in his mind, Umashi took himself and Yomi "home" or whatever his mind considered "home" to be. To the onlookers outside of the dome, the large blob of chakra had expanded around the Hokage and his guard and then suddenly shrunk into nothingness. It was only to the trained eye of the likes of Hyuuga Hiro and others like him that the line of a chakra manipulated shadow that crept out of the auditorium. Ending up in some random wing of the hospital, Umashi and Yomi were dropped out of the shadow and into an office that thankfully was quite empty and lacking any windows. What little light crept into the dark room was by sheer coincidence of the cracked door that let light from the hallway in. As if subconsciously sensing that he'd gotten himself and Yomi to safety, Umashi blacked out and for the moment lost consciousness.

For fucks sake.

He was a better man than most, she would certainly give him that. In no scenario, would she have even thought to go save these ungrateful ass people. To the contrary, she might have used it as an opportunity to sacrifice them all for their insolence.

She was now on high alert, looking around as the room swarmed with cloaked figures who were trying to Umashi, damn the collateral damage. Still, he was the Hokage and they sent enough people in acknowledgment of his prowess. At least the assassins weren’t disrespectful. She scanned the room trying to find the easiest way out, but, Umashi pulled her close, telling her to trust him. What?

The med-chief nodded and did as he asked, against her better judgement. Usually, Asuka and her pup knew their roles and they were well defined. Trust was never an issue or even discussed, it simply was. Never did she stop to think that she needed to trust anyone else besides them, nor did she ever put a thought into if she ever trusted the man before her. Why would she? As far as she was concerned she only had to show him enough respect to not get on his radar. This was a hell of time to do a trust exercise.

She placed her arms around his waist and let him do his thing. Feeling his chest expand as he took in deep breaths. The Goddess smelled of a feint mix of vetiver and sandalwood topped with jasmine. She made small, indistinguishable movements with hands before placing her hands on the small of his back. The woman didn’t look around to take in the people around her. This trust exercise worked both ways, he wanted her to do as he asked, she let him do what he felt he needed, without intervening. In this moment, she was still trained to take direction from men. She didn’t like this truth, but, this was not a time to regress to savagery to prove a point to herself. Protecting her cover was still high on her priority list.

They were enveloped by what she could only assume was a barrier, though she had never witnessed something quite like this. As it faded to black, she found the darkness comforting in its familiarity. Yomi heard her Sennin whisper something, that she didn’t quite make out as she was too busy feeling protected in this dark embrace. As soon as she tried to get lost in it all the noise died away as did the soothing blackness. Interrupted by the single instance of bright light desecrating her protective bubble. Yomi’s eyes darted back and forth, trying to figure out where she was. The place was familiar if only by smell. All hospitals had that sanitized scent unless it smelled of that other odor: overwhelming decay. She was still holding on to Umashi, as his body fell limp in her arms.

“Shit!” Yomi tried to hold him up, but he easily doubled in weight as he fell unconscious. She laid him gently on the ground before she scrambled towards the wall, feeling for the light switch. Her digits clumsily flipped it on to see the Hokage with his vestments covered in blood. It was then that she noticed her own white dress was stained. The medical ward she placed on him earlier in their shared embrace had clearly already been activated. With all the commotion and assassination attempts, she failed to notice he had been shot. She tore of the dress before and rapidly firing off some hand seals. Two Medical Assistants appeared.

Help me get him on the bed.” She went to grab his feet and the conjured up Medical Assistants grabbed his middle and upper body respectively. They transferred him from the floor to the bed, trying to keep him steady but also not wanting to move any slower than necessary.

“Get these machines up and running! Someone get me a crash cart, and some fluids, NOW!” Yomi ordered as she went to the sink to quickly give her hands a scrub and put on gloves. This was not how she pictured her day going. This was not how she pictured her meeting with Hokage ending up, with his life in her hands. She should have really heeded Asuka’s words and simply made an appointment.

She was on edge, as anyone in her position would be. Her senses were on fire and she hoped that whatever it was that the Hokage did to get them away also masked their escape because if they came in here now, he would die and her secret would more than likely get out. What was more, Umashi poofed them onto the general care unit, where the patients were about ready to be released. There were no crash carts in the rooms, like how it would be if they were in the ER. Certainly, there was a few on the floor, but, there were none readily available.

Snapping on her gloves, she went to examine Umashi as best as she could. There was blood everywhere. She looked over his chiseled body for an entry wound, which she found. Before turning him over, she performed coagulation, to lessen the bleeding. While on his side she saw, what appeared to be an exit wound, but, she couldn’t be sure. Sometimes entry wounds appeared to be exit wounds, so instead of only one bullet, there were two, both which could be lodged in his chest. Further the wounds were messy and garish. She didn’t understand what kind of bullets these were that would do such a thing. Probably something made to kill Kages. Kage Killers?

The Medical Assistant placed an oxygen mask over his face, ensuring that he was getting enough oxygen. At that moment, the EKG machine began to beep.

“Shit!” They were not in the emergency room and this was NOT a situation in which multiple people needed to be let in on. Her medical assistant hadn’t come back yet with a crash cart and the Hokage was coding.

More hand seals. There was no more time to wait. A soft green aura erupted around Umashi, he wasn’t dead, but he surely was dying. She used her Goddess given power to help him survive this. She looked at him watching the blood that was still falling freely from his wounds stop to almost a halt.

Her medical assistant entered with the crash cart and saw what was happening. She moved instead, to hook Umashi up to an IV drip. The woman didn’t look up, her eyes fixated on her patient.

“I needed the mobile x-ray cart, twenty seconds ago!” The other medical assistant was already half way out of the room before she finished, anticipating Yomi’s needs in this hectic situation.

She didn’t know what her limitations were in this situation as she never needed to go this far to save a life. Why would she? The newly minted Medical Chief was in the business of taking lives, if her past was any indication. Her chest heaved from the effort it took to cast the jutsu and her upper lip was covered in sweat. Further, she was not even a doctor by choice, her powers were granted to her through her Goddess, that is Rei, that is Yomi. She found the profession most suited to her gifts, no matter how ironic. The ease in which she performed her medical jutsus were a direct reflection of how blessed she was. However, it did not mean it didn’t take its toll.

Her medical assistant was back with the X-Ray machine as she entered, one of the clones disappeared. The other, helped her with setting up the machine in order to take pictures of his chest to determine if he really did have an exit wound.

The pictures were taken and she sent them with her Medical Assistant to get them printed up. Yomi wiped her lip with her arm and did her final set of hand seals. Her whole body glowed in a blinding pure white as her life energy poured over the Hokage in order to ensure he survived the ordeal.

“Hokage-sama, I need you to get up. You owe me a dress, and my shoes are still in the auditorium, so I need those replaced too.” Yomi’s tone was as serious as the situation, like a mom who threatened their already tearful child to give them a reason to cry.

Ooc:
Casted Medical Ward, Medical Assistant, Coagulation Mastered, Resuscitate R1 – Code Blue, & Angelic Blessing R1 (maintaining)
-Umashi is:
- No longer bleeding (3 ranks cleared up from Coagulation the remaining 2 from Resuscitate)
- No longer unconscious via Resuscitate
-Getting healed up by a benevolentpractically nude Goddess…(nothing to see here)
-Is getting IV fluids

-Yomi is:
- Quickly depleting her chakra pools. She wrote a memo to staff a little while ago warning of the dangers of near depletion of one's chakra pools. You would think she'd heed her own warnings.
- Having X-Rays sent to check for lodged bullets.

Going in and out of consciousness, Umashi's thoughts drifted towards the shores that he once called home. Even as a little boy Umashi loved the large bodies of water. Whether they were oceans or seas, lakes or rivers, he didn't care. Though he noticed the fact that his parents were always working, he didn't seem to mind and instead found his relative freedom to stare into the blue to be exhilarating. As a child however, Umashi was completely unaware of the fact that the ship that he was on wasn't his true home. He couldn't know that a bad crop season and an even worse business deal turned indentured servitude into forced slavery on the ignorant. Blissful in his ignorance he was shielded from the cold harsh realities of the world, the simple truth that some would rather jump into the watery deeps and drown versus continue another day with chains around their feet.

Things eventually changed for Umashi and sooner than any child should have been forced to, Umashi grew up. A day like any other, the sound of the seagulls would forever taunt him with the freedom that their wings brought them. On that day Umashi's mother couldn't shield him from the horrors that he witnessed. On that day like corn from the husk, Umashi's father was ripped away from them and cast aside never to be heard from again. On that day Umashi grew up and on that day Umashi realized that the seas weren't so free after all. On the deck the seagulls kicked at the catch of fish for the day, and with bloodied hands, the boy who would grow up to be Umashi swung out at them. Tauntingly the seagulls flapped their wings and took flight, but the bloodied, not yet callused hands of a tired young boy could not keep them from eventually taking their prize of fish. Not pulling in his share for the day was worth lashes, lashes that left scars that Umashi still carried.

Perhaps it was Yomi's words, for Umashi to wake up, or perhaps it was the fact that he started sub-conciously calculating just how expensive the dress that she'd been wearing was, but Umashi's eyes blinked open wide and excited. Waking up as if from a nightmare that sadly was a true record of history, Umashi nearly leaped of the bedding that he was on, threatening to rip the IV from his arm. Yomi's glow stopped him from going too far as he recognized her before he completely turned a bad situation worse. Noting the fact that he was shirtless and the fact that his scars were on full display, scars that he didn't feel like explaining the history of. Umashi blushed despite his earthy skin tone.
"You know, you remind me of a girl that I once knew . . ." He smirked as he said the admittedly cheesy line before fully getting his bearings straight. Shaking his head, Umashi looked at the bloody mess that his body was and instinctively activated his curse seal , hoping the it would allow him to power through his injuries.

The opposite happened and instead of slowly healing his wounds, it caused quite the reverse as his wounds suddenly began to hurt even more. Where it normally would make him feel stronger, it was clear that it was eating away at his already weakened life force. Leaning back down he tried to channel the pain into the back of his mind as he used the somewhat arguable clarity that the seal provided to try and assess the situation. Like a prideful male he refused to just sit back and let himself be taken care of. Slowly replaying the previous hours events he tried to figure out just what went wrong and how he could right it. Fortunately Yomi was more concerned about his life than he was at the moment because he completely ignored the situation for what it was and focused on what he wanted it to be.

"So . . . I'm going to guess that we didn't just have a crazy rendezvous after a night of drunken love, right? You know what, scratch that, I can't afford to laugh right now." With a dry heave, Umashi rubbed at his temples and shook his head. "Honestly though, was it me or did I get to keep my job by way of a sketchy vote and then almost get assassinated in the process?" Feeling a burning sensation in his chest, Umashi slowly moved an arm to poke at the bloody wound on his chest. Despite all medical training, Umashi still didn't fully understand that he'd been shot. No sooner than finger hit flesh however, than the searing pain of the misadventure caused his seal to spike his chakra levels and no doubt his blood pressure. Shutting off completely without warning the dark chakra of the seal receded from his body and he suddenly felt all too human.

Like most people who considered themselves strong, they often lamented the weakness that they presented when they were hurt. In the privacy of this room, however, she was going to have to make it clear that this was a no flex zone. Her newly awake patient was already up making "cute" statement. Raising an eyebrow to his cheeky remark she replied in kind.

“You have never come across anything like me, I assure you.” Tonally arrogant, however, she was 99.99 percent positive he had never run across any Goddess before her and if he had, he’d certainly led a colorful life. She watched him poke at himself, like a child reaching for the flames despite warnings. True, she hadn’t told him anything yet, but, he also wasn’t a child. He again chose another cheeky line, Yomi noting that at least he didn’t suffer any oxygen deprivation and his mind was intact.

“You’d have sacrificed a lot more than your sobriety if that were the case.” Of course, no one met her high standards to begin with, which is how she remained unsullied. The EKG machine beeped and made a whirring noise.

“Yes, that’s what happened. You were shot in the process. As your attending physician, I’ll remind you not to poke at any openings, tear out any IV’s, or otherwise do anything that will stop me from treating you properly.”

The conjured up medical assistant came through the door with the X-Rays and a prescription bottle and handed them both to Yomi; She then poofed away. Yomi, held the X-Ray up to the light, confirming what she thought and turned to her patient.

“The bullet went clean through, Umashi. You are lucky that it didn’t hit anything important.” She placed the X-Ray and the pill bottle on the counter as the machine beeped some more.

“The pain you feel, is causing your blood pressure to spike. I am not alarmed since acute pain causes elevated pressure levels, however, should it remain elevated after four days, you must come back for more tests. Further, the dissipation of your little seal leads me to believe your chakra pools are dangerously low and in flux. I would remind you that excessive near depletion of your chakra pools can cause myositis or several inflammatory myopathies. Rest and meditation will fix that.” She repeated that last bit. “Rest and meditation.”

Yomi went to pull some saline out of the crash cart and some wound dressing. Normally she would ask if he could turn over to his side, but, she had no time for his flexing when she knew he was exhausted, so, she gently turned him over to first clean his exit wound. Exit wounds were generally much larger than entry wounds so it took more time to clean and properly dress them. Gently, she placed him back down and went to clean his entry wound to bandage that off as well.

“You will lay here until the IV bag is done.” It was a demand much more than it was a request. “And when you do go take those pills with you, to keep your wound from getting infected. One, twice daily, for ten days. It may be tempting to chakra your wounds closed but, medically, I advise against it.” Yomi looked to the blood-stained floor, noting all the bloody foot prints. Maintenance was clearly in for some overtime today. She went over and picked up her dress and the Hokage’s sullied robes and tossed them in the bio-hazard bin along with her gloves. That, she would dispose of herself and any other evidence that the Hokage had been treated here today, X-Ray’s included. There was no reason for people to know about any of this unless he wanted them too.

“I’ll get us some clothes.” Since they were on the general floor, Yomi’s office was conveniently a few doors down. She went inside it and got some scrubs for them to put on. No need for them to walk around looking completely crazy any more. She put her’s on before she returned to the room holding some scrubs for him.Closing the door behind her, she tossed the scrubs on the bed. Satisfied that her patient wouldn't die, it was time for the questions.

“While being Night Nurse is “fun”, I take your calm demeanor about what happened to mean that you at least knew these would-be assassins?” She knew good and well he knew who they were at the very least, even if he had no idea that they would be present. She hoped he wouldn’t lie since the trust exercise had been going well up to this point.

Umashi terribly wanted to avoid any tough subjects as as he looked at the scrubs and then the IV and then back at Yomi, he moved to get up and put on the scrubs but then he stopped short as he realized that in order to fully undress he'd need to . . . take off his pants. Feeling a bit self conscious, Umashi opted for just putting the scrubs on in place of a shirt and leaving the pants around for later. Fighting back the urge to make a joke about good genes, Umashi instead seriously answered Yomi's as he maneuvered his way into the shirt without having to resort to taking out his IV. Ending up with half a shirt on he sighed and leaned back resting his head on the bed. "I know of them, yes. Anybody who's worth their stuff knows of the Black Scorpions. I'd figured that they had people in their pockets even politically but I had no idea that they'd try and kill me for political gain." Shrugging, Umashi didn't have too much more that he wanted to offer and by keeping the truth light, he wasn't exactly lying either.

Moving on to change directions, Umashi sighed and closed his eyes. He wasn't exactly a pro at lending of himself emotionally. Like many, the life that he'd lived had robbed him of most things save for stoicism. Changing his tone to a more softer more vulnerable one. Umashi thanked Yomi for what she'd done which in and of itself was an accomplishment because it meant that he actually was in need of help in the first place.
Even though it's technically your job . . . thanks for saving my butt. You didn't have to do what you did but you did and I appreciate that.." He paused as he let the words hang in the air. "I'd like for you to lead the Medical Branch as Sennin and that's probably a rush of rank and all but right now we're not exactly working within the best of time constraints and saving the Hokage's life has got to be worth something." Giving a weak laugh, Umashi would wait for Yomi's answer before drifting off to sleep. Rest was much needed and the recovery process would require far more rest than he was accustomed to giving.

OOC: Offering Yomi the title of Med-Sennin.
OOC #2: Topic left unless stopped/ended via fade to white (aka no shenanigans because we're grown and civil).

They had successfully passed their trust exercise, and while they weren’t on the familiar terms that her and the Yamaguchi pop star were on, but, it was a step in that direction. By no means did that mean she was ready to tell her story, but, she could relax her guard around him. The next bit, however, she had not been expecting.

Yomi looked at the Hokage for a long time before she replied. It was a rush indeed. She could think of all the things Asuka would say to her once she told her what transpired here today. Of course, she would leave out the details, but, this promotion piece she’d have to tell her. There was no good reason for her to turn down the offer, well, there were plenty, but none of which she could say to the man in front of her. Like many times before, she held her tongue, and instead conserved her energy for the fight that would ensue between her and Asuka.

“Thank you, Hokage-sama. I accept under the condition that I can reevaluate once Yuri comes back from her vacation. If she comes back from vacation.” Yomi excused herself from the room, to let her patient get some rest and to sign off on some paperwork approving the overtime for the maintenance person that she was going to call in to clean and sanitize the entire second floor once her patient left.
