Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

There were two new AiT who he had decided to send on the recovery mission. There were better trained trainee's available, but he wanted these two blooded into the way of the ANBU quickly. Shashu wouldn't be impressed, he knew that already from the small amount of time they had spent together, but it wasn't her decision to make, it was his, and at least for now she was an ANBU and would do as she was told.

He wore battle gear. It felt on, he'd not worn this gear for years. The sword felt heavy on his back as if pulling against his standing up straight and there was something missing from his shoulder... Mojo would never be replaced, but he would be forever missed.

The class would be a mission, C-Rank, a rank he'd be embarrassed to fail, but it'd give the kids the experience they needed. They would travel out to the north where one of the Daimyo of Cloud needed to have his taxes carried to the capital. The reason it was to be guarded by shinobi was due to the number of robberies that had occurred recently with survivors citing shinobiesk techniques. Whatever the case it didn't sound like the individuals were overly skilled, and Akira would be able to handle them himself, indeed the trainee's might have been able to do so.

Still it was training, and they would learn.

Having gotten his summons from his mentor, Hito set out for the Sileo. Today was an adventure for the young ansatsu senjutsu tokushu butai in training; he had a mission and a teaching all in one! Knowing this, Hito had no real idea on what the mission details were or where the actual event would take place, but knew it would iron itself out when Saito would tell him soon enough. A C-rank mission, huh? Hito thought about what a mission would be like; he hadn't been on any missions before this.. Realizing that tid but of information, his eyes widened from excitement.

My first mission! Hell yeah! His eyes closed, his mouth a big goofy smile, and his hands behind his head, Hito was more than ecstatic at the moment. Walking slowly towards the Sileo, he would wander aloof, biding his time until the actual "early arrival" punctuality personality of his would kick in. Looking at the sun, he guessed about another thirty minutes until he would be the prompt ANBU he needed to be. Ahh, this is going to be fun, I hope! Taking strides out of excitement, he soon found himself at the doors of the Sileo, found himself entering the security checkpoints, and in the main meeting hall for missions, where he found his mentor Akira Saito already there. Waving a small hail to the other, Hito would come to stand within the mentor-student personal bubble, and nudge the other.

"Aye, Sofu-sama!"

He was carrying the usual sword on his back, along with the ANBU sword strapped to his lower back, hilt to the left for easy, fast unsheathing. He wore the standard ANBU gear, covered by his black combat robe. Over his combat robe, he wore a white robe, that had had the torso part wrapped around his waist, the rest worn normally.

"Seems we are both early, yeah?"

Taba was slowly walking to the entrance of the sileo, the entrance that led underground to the offices she had been in once before. She didnt know what to expect this time or even who to expect as the head of the Anbu had mentioned getting training from other shinobi but the summons did have the same seal on it as before. "I wonder what I will be doing that I have to come all the way back down to this flamboyant place." Taba wondered as she descended the stairs the led to the main area and made her way to Saito's office to find Not only the Senin but another whom she assumed would be accompanying her or she would be escorting them. "Okutaba Senritsu Reporting in sir" She said completely unaware of if that was the right thing to do or not.

So the two newest members of the ANBU were before him and ready to take their first steps towards learning the skills they would need to become an ANBU.

Good to see you both are here on time. The process we will go through is that I will inform you of the mission and what it is that I want the two of you to do should we encounter trouble. It was most important to do it this way, they needed clear instructions, else he couldn't blame them for not doing as he would want them to.

The mission we have today is similar in style to the mission the two of you will be going on with another ANBU outside of Lightning Country. It is a case of going to a location, picking up an object and transporting it. In this case the object is millions of yen. We have been hired to transport it from the north to the capital city. We have been hired because there have been an increase in criminal activity in the area by people exhibiting abilities that by description match that of a shinobi.

That was the description sorted.

Any questions regarding this?

Taba stood there next to someone who was apparently a new Anbu in training much like herself as Akira Saito would start to tell them the details of what would be happening on the mission they will be going on today. "That does sound rather easy Im going to assume there is a catch to both missions then. Are they high risk criminals? Or Perhaps high ranking criminals?" She asked as she seemed to be quite interested in this mission and couldnt wait to test her abilities in the field instead of in a field. "So uhhh When do we leave sir....and Can we like use Code names That sounds fun" She said as she would start to think up possible code names for herself. If Hito or Akira Saito were to look over her they would at first notice some weird contraption on her shoulder but the weirdest part would be her armor as it seemed to have a few rather large holes in it that seemed like they would be terrible for protection. "So Uhh who might you be then?" she would ask as she turns slowly towards Hito.

"Aye, good to see you here as well old man." Hito replied to the greeting from his mentor. Allowing the newly placed Sennin time to talk and explain their mission, Hito took the time to form the excess information he needed for later. Outside of Lightning. The location? Unknown as of yet. Hired to protect money to destination: northern capital. Hazards/threats? Possible shinobi, possible organization of criminals.
"Where exactly is the location we will be starting, and is the route already plotted out for our mission?" That was all he needed to know, and if he didn't end up knowing - no problem later. He would find out and think it over again when he had to.

With the other person in the room asking more questions than Hito had to know, he allowed them the time they needed to ask their questions and seek the answers they wanted. Code names, huh? No idea what she meant by that, but whatever. If the old man wanted code names, he'd say so to answer her, Hito supposed. As she asked Hito who he was, Hito just looked at her blankly, avoiding the question entirely. Shaking his head, he pushed his rudeness aside. "Hito." Turning his head back to his Sensei, Hito would await the answers and the rest of the mission details.
So a mission guarding someone's money...

Some good questions from both of them, clarification of the mission was essential for a mission leader, otherwise how could they count on their team to follow them.

The first question asked was about the catch to both missions from Okutaba.

This mission I'm hoping there wont be a catch. This is more a case of training for the two of you so that you know what to expect during a mission. The next mission is more dangerous because you're further away from Cloud and outside of Lightning Country. Though we have detailed knowledge on the goings on in Lightning we tend to lack information on outside countries due to their own shinobi villages not approving of our doing so. The trick is that in that mission you'll be retrieving a dead Cloud shinobi, thus we don't know if the locals are tricking us to be able to kill more, or if they're genuinely apologetic about having done so, and that it was actually our shinobi who created the trouble. You could be walking into a situation like this mission, or you might be running from a much more dangerous one, only time will tell.

Then Hito asked about the whereabouts of this mission.

Our route is already plotted. pulling out a map of Lightning Country he rolled it out on the ground and once the other two were bent over it looking at it he pointed to parts of the map as he spoke.

We will travel the well tested roads on our way there, if we have trouble we'll just take it out, I don't expect any missing nin to be around, and if there are I am here with the two of you so we should be fine. We will retrieve the chest from here and make our way back to the capital using this road. It's not the main road, but it's not the least travelled either, there are stops along the way and I know it should be well guarded. There have been attacks along all routes, so no-where is particularly safe, but this one will also give us the most advantage using our shinobi skills. Along this part is a forest to the right and fifty yards to the right will be cornfields. Open enough to give us time to react, and cover enough should we want to retreat. Along this part the forest is around the road but that's only for about a mile and there is a patrol station half-way along with soldiers from the Lightning Country army. If we are attacked here we have somewhere to get to for safety, and a place which can provide backup. Then the last part of the trip is just grassy fields, across a bridge and then into the capital.

Rolling up the scroll once more he placed it in his belt.

Okutaba then asked about when it was they left and code-names.

My code name is Saru when I am on ANBU missions. This mission is more a main branch mission I took from them, but it would be good practice to take on code names and use them. You can pick your own, but pick carefully as you don't want to change it frequently or else it'll be difficult to keep track of your progress and thus track when you're ready to take exams and new responsibilities.

She then asked Hito who he was, and in typical Hito fashion he gave a poor excuse for an answer.

He's a new AiT, the two of you joined within a day of each other. Treat each other well, you never know when you'll be relying on the other to save your life in the future.

He looked at the two of them.

We leave now if you're ready and if you're clear on what it is we're doing?

Taking mental notes of the locations on the map, Hito would have it stored away for later use within the mission if certain things happened, that he could relay the information without the time it took to roll out the map, look it over, study it, and have to roll it back up and store it away again. It would simply save time, in the long run. "A simple mission, for you, then, a test for us.." It was a statement to himself, Hito thinking on what ANBU tests were like.

"If we are using code names, I will go by 'Shi'." It meant Death. It would fit him, eventually, he guessed. But who knew?

Being as Saito gave more information about him away, Hito shook his head. Ah well.

"I'm ready to leave now."

Taba would look at the map with a bit of interest. "So what if By chance Someone or....SOmething jumps us from right here" She said pointing to a small spot on the map that would be excellent for an ambush. "Is that where the two of us Spring Into action?" She asks as she starts to rummage through her bag before handing something small and white to Hito "These are made specially by my producer to dampen out the chakra of my music so the crowd doesnt ....come under the effects of my genjutsu" She said with a slight laugh before looking at the map.

"Yeah Im also ready to leave and I think Ill go by.....Songstress" She said as she was proud of the name she managed to pick for herself

So it would be Saru leading Shi and Songstress to the northernmost region of Kumogakure.

The girl had pointed out an area Akira had also observed as the most dangerous location along their route, though at least this route had only a couple of those. They were at the beginning and end of that forest, the furthest points from aid while still providing potential bandits with cover. Although the main road had more aid nearby for more of the trip the issue would be that there were too many locations where they could be ambushed in the first instance. This way they could be prepared as they neared those locations at take the required actions to reduce any potential problem.

------Just to note, we'll just roleplay the entire thing here so we don't have to worry about the whole actually leaving crap, besides it'd be just a waste of time------

The trip to their initial destination had been mostly uneventful though taking several days to do and there was that day of rain which was inconvenient. They had met the Daimyo of the region who had seemed nice enough in the way that politicians seemed nice enough and they'd been told to wait by the gates of the small walled town to receive the chest and deliver it.

After a couple of hours waiting the chest finally arrived being pulled by a donkey, they could begin their journey.

Shi take the front position, Songstress take the rear. Stand about ten yards behind me Songstress, I'll be doing the same with Shi. he said giving the youngsters their orders. To explain why he was doing this he continued to inform them as they walked along, they might have already figured it out, but in case they hadn't he wanted them to understand the considerations which needed to be taken into account.

I have us spaced out like this so that we can't be simply taken out by a single technique or surprise attack. I am in the middle so that I can aid whoever needs my help as quick as possible.

This was only day 1 of their journey, and there were three more to go. At least this part should be quiet, though he wondered how much patience the two had for their journey together.

As Hito and the group made their preparations for their mission, he had taken it upon himself to become more knowledgeable of the map, the geographical advantages of the area, and marked what he thought might be good places to hunt for his own food. As the starting adventure was disadvantageous and non-eventful, the rain gave Hito the ebullience a boy of his age should have.

"The rain makes for a nice evening.." It was all he had said during the trip thus far; and even then it was only a whisper that maybe only he could hear. The boy loved the rain. It was practically the one thing that could contain his deep anger and thirt for fighting. To Hito, rain was a magical, wonderful thing to be enjoyed; something he luxuriated himself with. After several days in general, the troupe came upon the Daimyo, and achieved a part of their mission. As the chest was brought out by the mule, he could only wonder how much all the money was weighing down the poor animal.

Nodding the acknowledgement to take lead, Hito would keep his pace a few meters ahead of Saito; all the while, he would recall the map in his head and look around for various food sources, hidden enemies, and traps laid out for others. So far so good, he supposed.

I wonder how Saito and Songstress are holding up with the mission so far? Maybe they find it interesting, or bad? Hmm

He thought the question, but didn't ask it. He loved to think and keep his thoughts to himself.

Taba was proud of herself for noticing such notable points of attack but when Akira had made mention that he had noticed them as well her heart sunk a little bit as she figured that she might have been the one to think about it first. ' Dang I guess being one of the elite doesnt include pointing out obvious things that everyone else has noticed' Taba thought to herself as she grabs her stuff as the group is now leaving for the mission.

After several days of travel through rather bland and one day rainy weather they had reached their destination and eventually got the goods that they were supposed to be escorting. That moment is when she got her first set of order. "Yes sir." She said as she would start to stay around ten yards away from Shi, she was actually keeping a very active watch on her surroundings.

Their journey so far was quiet, they had made a decent amount of ground but Akira called a halt. The sun was dropping in the sky and about a kilometer ahead was one of the danger zones. By the time they'd get there it would have been time to set up camp, and that would be the worst thing to do.

Set up your sleeping quarters, I'll get food ready. Well walked today both of you. he said giving them both a nod. He knew that it wasn't much to praise them on, but in the end it was the small things which often mattered. Had they been spoiled or simply whiny it wouldn't have been as easy a day of walking. Instead they had both simply gotten on with the job, and for that Akira was appreciative.

Getting some wood from nearby Akira used an E-Rank fire jutsu to set the fire going. After doing so he pulled out a scroll and summoned some of the cooking gear he had placed in it. Within a few minutes he had set up a small cauldron of soup, chunks of mountain goat cooking in it with some potatoes and carrots. Nothing overly grand, but it'd give them strength for the next day.

Creating a small circle of stone for them to sit on around the campfire the light had dimmed and only the faint glow of the sun remained in the west, the direction they were heading in.

As the chores were done and the food cooked Akira dished out the bowls of food with a spoon each. After they had all eaten he decided to spark up some conversation and get to know the pair a bit better.

So then. I think this is a good time for the pair of you to get to know me and me to know you better. Tomorrow could be a dangerous day, so we might as well do so now. He gave a small smile.

I am Akira Saito, those who believe in the Raikage Shinbatsu's ascension to become Raiden's right hand believe that I am his chosen avatar. He was my master, and I was his only student. Growing up as a young shinobi and being taught by a man who rose to such fame had its positives and its drawbacks. We were expected to take on the toughest missions, our enemies would see him and either flee or attack hoping that the legends were false. My greatest regret is that I felt the need to try and find him after he ascended, my pilgrimage if you were. I shouldn't have bothered with it, Shinbatsu was always with me and I only caused both of us loss, but I was at my full strength back then with youth still residing in my flesh and he had never seen me reach that point due to other circumstances. He looked at the pair, realising he'd need to say what those were.

I was exiled from the village for a few short years before word of Shinbatsu's uprising reached me. At the same time as I returned to Cloud he ascended.

It had been a tough time in his youth. A man he adored as the greatest shinobi in the world was his master, and his master never got to see his student rise to the strength that he achieved.

Now your turn. He said nodding to whoever posted first after this.

As the trio walked during the day, the sun would rise high above them, the beams of warmth hitting their bodies. Hito would sweat slightly, his body used to the harsh cold weather; it seemed he would have to adjust to this hotter weather. Though the journey the three were on was quiet, ones mind was racing with thoughts, analysis's, and judgments for what the mission held for him so far. So far, he liked the walk. He viewed it as a nice exercise. As he walked, throughout the day, he would look up at the sky, and eye the ever setting sun. As a growing boy, some things gave him thoughts of loneliness, and the setting sun was one. Shaking his head, he would begin to start thinking less about the mission and more about the night ahead of the three.

About the time his mind was fully distracted, Akira had said it was time to stop and rest; to set up camp. Taking his own bedroll off of his back, he would roll it out in some bushes, to remain out of site from the rest of the group or stragglers. Getting in it, he would toss and turn and roll around to make it comfortable and to make sure it didn't make too much noise. Fair enough. Getting back up, he would help out the others with their set up; after all was said and done, Hito would use Pressurized Mist to form a shroud of mist throughout the forest around them. To others, it would seem like a low flying cloud, but the others would know what it was. As his sensei prepared the food for himself and his two newest students, Hito would listen to the back-story of his mentor.

"I was born outside of the village, to a family who disowned me as a child; or sent on my way as a trial of life by that family. I grew up alone in the forest surrounding the spine of the world's lower region. I would hunt for my food, and live off of the basic instincts of all humans; eat, kill, survive. It sounds boring, but it's all I knew before finding the village. I ran into a teacher of the academy, who brought me in and got me on the path of the Shinobi. Everything I have done in my life has been a constant struggle, my fight for my rise to the top in life. I've come a long way, ut there is still always a long way to go.." It was more than he had previously given out to anyone other than Kitsune and Akira. He felt like he was exposed, but he knew it was better to form lasting bonds rather than cut bonds.

It came to Okutaba to speak when his radio crackled into life, his hand raised to interrupt the conversation from continuing.

Akira Saito, there is a personal emergency for the trainee Okutaba, I believe that she is with you? I can understand if she cannot return but if you can spare her send her back to Kumogakure with haste.

Akira nodded.

She can go, I will send her now. He said in response.

Thank you sir.

Then the connection went dead.

Okutaba it seems your have things to deal with back in Kumogakure. Head off now, it sounded urgent so you might want to expend additional energy to try and get there before nightfall tomorrow. You should be safe if you take a detour around that area and then directly back.

She headed out back to Cloud and left Hito and Akira to complete the mission by themselves.

Turning to Hito Akira shrugged Just the two of us now, which changes things. I'm going to have you at the front with the chest and I'll follow a short distance behind. Hopefully they'll attack me with the majority of the force as I'll be the last person and thus taking out the flanking force would be to their advantage, however this doesn't mean you wont also be attacked at the same time.

Any questions?

[Incomplete mission for you Okutaba

If Hito has no questions then continue on to roleplay the next day beginning and the pair walking in formation down the road]

As the other mission attendee had been called away, it only left the sensei and his pupil. Giving Hito a small bit of pride being alone on this mission with his father figure, it would make Hito want to accomplish this mission ever more so. Watching as the other left, a few patterns of current plans ran through Hito's head; only to have old man Saito speak aloud of his own plan. Thinking it over, the boy would nod his head, in thought.

"If they flank us, you'll have them. Maybe use your eyes to help locate them, and we might can ambush them instead, or even avoid them all together. If they come at me, I'll be ready."

Putting his thinking cap on, Hito would try to think of multiple possibilities and a way to counter each one.

"Say they come at us from above," he mentioned, pointing up at the trees, "it gets thicker ahead..if they come from above, do you think we could take the high road, and have the chest carried below by a clone as a decoy?"

It was a small suggestion, but of the two could throw off their trail with something as simple as clones for decoys, it could be a fair amount of help for their own ambush or even help locate the hidden ambush-to-be's.

"Just a thought, old man Saito." Gathering his senses and downing the food that had been prepared for him, Hito would not have anything else to add for now; unless Saito had more to advise on?

And a good one. There are a couple of reasons I haven't had us use many, if any, jutsu during our trip so far. The first reason is a precaution. If I were as strong as a Jounin for example and you were as strong as a Chuunin... which the kid might be ... what if we're ambushed by a couple who are equal to or better than our equivelant rank? Then we're relying on our abilities as ANBU, the skills that we have trained in that aspect to give us an edge. Using chakra to hide the loot would mean that at least one of us would be losing some of whatever advantage we have, and lets be fair, how much do we really care about what's in that box? He smiled at the boy, the real truth comes out. Who cares about the money.

We are ANBU, we deal with issues which might be too dangerous for other shinobi, and that means shinobi. These bandits have shown shinobi skills, if the money goes missing I'll be blamed, Kumo wont be paid, only thing we lose is some confidence. If we kill these guys however, no matter what situation happens that loss of confidence by that one person is ignorable. We could lose the money as long as we kill the bandits, they are our mission. This... this is a decoy. He said patting the chest. It was merely an excuse to get out here to clean their back yard of some weeds.

The other reason that I've not been hiding it is probably now fairly clear as well, it is the bait.

Nodding in understanding to Saito's words, Hito would raise his hand to his chin, his pointer finger over his lips; he was in thought. "I see, so the chest is irrelevant. That makes things easier, I suppose." Reaching to his own knapsack, he would rummage around to find a hand written hand guide of some sort, the cover worn with use. Scanning through the index, he would read over words to find what it was he was searching for and what page; in his own handwriting, he read: "ANBU Interrogations - Pg. 42"

The handbook was a small notebook that he had taken notes in, filed under certain topics, and a page number to accommodate each individual topic.

"Pain is an effective form of communication, which should be employed whenever you carry out the duties of torture and interrogation. Strive to obtain the ability to subject the detainee to great suffering without any physical torture. Learn to possess the knowledge of the human anatomy; and human physcology. By attacking someone's mind, you can gain control over their spirit. This is the dark art of interrogation."

Reading his own written words, he would take the time to ask his sensei if..

"Can I find out information for us, if given the chance, to find out who is leading the bandits in this area, and why they are in the area?" To Hito, it could be another mission. And experience; as an ANBU, but also for him growing into the man he wanted to be.

If we catch one alive then sure thing. He nodded and then they made their move.

Hito was with the chest, walking along the well travelled path. There were paving stones under foot still, the roads created hundreds of years ago connecting the northern territories to the central capital. It was a way for the capital to maintain its power, the ability to travel quickly across the roads.

Still there were bird sounds in the area which meant they were likely safe for now.

A kilometre later the forest was getting much closer. Akira kept his chakra on the downlow instead of using Byakugan like he would have liked to, he didn't know if there was someone with the ability to sense chakra in the group or not, or how far they were. So they walked closer and closer to the trees.

As the forest took Hito into their depths the trap was sprung, and Akira could do nothing about it...

---------What Hito sees---------

He'd be walking along and as he entered the forest he'd find two people jump out of the trees at him, one forming the last of his seals and a room of darkness enveloping him and the chest. He'd not be able to see the two who attacked anymore and everything around him would be black (it's the Nara ult).

------------------------------------

Akira charged at the black dome which had taken Hito and suddenly three others sprung their attack on him. They had what they wanted inside the dome, the money, and Akira was unable to help Hito out for a bit.

The three who came at him were two people with weapons and a third, Akira assumed to be their support. They were better trained in chakra than he'd hoped, Hito was strong though, and he trusted the boy to hold his own.

[OOC: I'll let you roleplay the combat in the dome. There's a Nara and someone of your own design to fight. They would make attacks and then disappear again shortly afterwards, but there would be time to strike them after they make their attacks. Think of them both as about as strong as Hito, which is also how strong the guys on the outside are.]

Nodding, Hito would have his chance later, if all went as planned. After rising, and continuing on with te mission, the pair would come upon the traps laid by the enemies. Immediately, Hito would be caught in what seemed to be a void of shadows, with nothing else in sight; a void in space, to him. Already on the defensive, he would catch on to the enemies attacking him; one. An attack catching him across the back, cutting into his clothes. Two; another followed suit, but not as strong as the other.. But it felt rough, like a rock hitting him.

Two strikes in, he waited; to see if he could sense their presence within the void of darkness he was now caught in. His mind racing, thoughts flying through his head, his hand would slowly reach and reside on his sword; the jagged edge seemingly
Humming by his touch. This was something new to him, something unusual. Drawing it, he would take a stance to defend himself while still searching for his attackers. His sword on the other hand, would continue to hum and feel like it was vibrating. What the fuck is wrong with this thing?

A response came within his head, throwing everything he knew out of the window.
Moreover, what the fuck is wrong with you? interesting. [including a Kinjutsu app during course of the thread.]
