Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Maru yawned, as the fox walked towards his meeting spot. Since that day where he pranked and accidentally nearly made Ayana fall to their death he had agreed to teach the child in the art of standing up for herself to guys like him. Now guy's like him were pretty vast since the fox was a demon, perverted, handsome, and more so he just simply assumed that standing up to bullies was something she wanted to do. Not being a victim would be his best guess which was something he could give a few pointers on. He decided to set up this lesson in the ancient forest, for one the place was secluded which allowed them to have a small one on one time so they could work to make her at least be confident enough to say something. Another reason, the forest was close to the hot springs and had monsters lurking around these woods which were two of Maru's favorite things.

He sent a letter not too long ago to Ayana's residence, instructions on how to get to the forest though it also told her to just wander around until she found him. So while he waited to be found, he sat down in the middle of a clearing that he was in and began to wonder what should he do now… then he grinned. Looking around to make sure that he was alone, the fox whipped out the latest addition of the Foxy-ninetails magazine from underneath his mask and opened it to a page to look at the first model on his magazine. The first was of a cute orange haired fox girl in a short kimono dress. Maru's grin became more wild as he looked at the woman's jiggly bits that seemed to barely fit in her hand. The fox began to chuckle stupidly as he gazed on the vixen, drool dripping onto his kimono as he took in every detail that he could from the images.

The thighs for one thing was something else that he looked at, the ears were another thing and he thought about how much he would like to pull them though… last time he did that when he was a lot younger, Maru got into a fight with his foster dad who was the hokage at the time and was set to jail for inappropriate touching (as well as assault along with destruction of property) though he might have to go back to tea to get that charge off his record over there because he didn't know ear pulling was even a offense! Nonetheless he continued to be in his own little world, fantasizing about the fox girl on this page for a moment until he noticed that the page could be pulled open to reveal a larger image… One in which he knew would be of seeing this model nude. He slowly reached for the little flap on the end of the page, preparing himself for the glorious sight that he was about to witness on this page and then–

"Now... Where is Mr. Fox?" Ayana talked herself. Her teacher that she kind of forced into being a teacher only had the sense of telling her to be in the Ancient Forest, and to more or less just wander around until she finds him.

She wonders if this is his idea to try to weasel out more community service hours from as much as possible. Though, she guessed that would be a waste of time since she had agreed to give him as much hours as he needs to be done with his mandatory volunteering hours.

The girl tried to figure out where the guy might be, running her mind through her one time she was with him and how he acted to see if she can track him down. She remembered that he was a creep, and he liked to sow a little bit of chaos, mainly the harmless kind, but still chaotic. So she should pay attention to either people screaming in terror or women yelling out things like 'perv' or 'creep'.

Finally, after about half an hour as she was walking, she found the figure of a man in a clearing. He had tails like Maru, the mask matched. But she noticed something weird. Maru was reading. The one time she met the fox man, she never had the thought that he was a book reader. Whatever it was, it must have been a good read, because as she neared, he was still reading, whether or not he was aware of her, she doesn't know.

Ayana really doesn't know what to say, so she stayed quiet and just kicked a rock around until Maru was done reading, whatever it was he was reading. Who would ever know that a prankster would take the time to read a book?

Maru was about to open the flap of the page to let a glorious sight wash over him but his ears twitched which made him quickly snap his head up and look into the direction of the noise. The eyeholes of his mask that were once wide black holes quickly turned to one of anger at the sight of Ayana who was just kicking around a rock instead of even trying to say something to him. Not even a cough or the usual snatch away his magazine. She just waited for him to finish, assuming that he would ever be finished with looking at his magazine. "Yanno, I would easily ignore you if I didn't have these hours. Ever heard of the saying that closed mouths don't get fed?" he scolded the child, getting on all fours so he could give himself a quick shake before standing up. Tucking his nudie magazine underneath his armpit so he could give his full attention to his 'student.' "Yanno my daughter was a lot like you. All meek, helpless, oh and also had brown hair! I think the problem we'll address first would be your attitude or at the very least your social skills– wait.. WAIT..."

Maru's right eye bulged our of it's eyehole, looking the child up and down before sighing. 'Okay she isn't mine.' a wash of relief washed over him right then after seeing that Ayana didn't have any of his traits. Currently Maru already had like three kids, all from different mother's. Two girls both brown haired and one silver haired boy. He didn't want anymore suprise children, especially since Maru thought human women got pregnant by hand holding! Pushing that to the back of his mind he raised his hand to begin again. "SO STANDING UP TO GUYS LIKE ME!!" he yelled as he changed the topic. "You need to speak up and not be nice about it. You're probably going to be a shinobi and chances are if you keep acting like a quiet… Nerd girl, you'll feel like you aren't good enough so you'll want to keep your head down. You need to at the very least FEEL important in order to have the courage to stand up to guys like me." Maru explained.

"Okay let's try something: now me being a big bad s rank shinobi I decide to instead of teaching you, I threaten that if you don't give me the hours that I want, I'll make your life a living hell. What would you do and what would you say to avoid that?" he asked, curious on how she would react if he wasn't such a nice fox. After all, he did have a rule about striking females and fighting people below his rank who wouldn't even have a chance against him. Heck one student Maru didn't even fight until he was around his rank regardless of how many jutsu he mastered. It was something about beating up on some low rank that left a bad taste in his mouth. It was like a little devil that always would be on his shoulder that would mock him saying 'Betcha can't win if they were stronger.' If they were equal to him, then there was no excuses and only skill which is why he'd never fight someone who was beneath him in rank. He would want something to brag about, just the victory wouldn't be enough.

"Erm..." was all Ayana managed to say as Maru started to scold her. He finally stopped and started to compare her to his daughter and how they were very much similar and... Wait a minute. Wait a darned minute. Did he just say that he has a daughter? Ayana wondered how that girl's life may have been. May have been pretty hectic if this guy was that girl's father.

Maru looked Ayana up and down, as if trying to figure out something, finally he spoke, in a very loud voice changing the topic. The girl winced and covered her ears as he yelled it out. But he finally started to talk some sense. At least, she thinks it is. About speaking up, and sometimes not being nice about it, about having more self importance to stand up to people.

He then brought up a scenario in which what would she do if Maru decided to say no rather than help her out. She ran a few scenarios through her head, but she eventually went to the first thing on her mind, when Maru had first saved her, but she was rather pretty angry about it. What she would've said if Kotone hadn't jumped in when she did. "Um... This situation of you asking me to give you all the hours you need and 'risking' your tail bone wouldn't have happened if... Erm... If you didn't steal my glasses and made it rain on me you jerk!" It was kind of hard for her to get in the mood of yelling at the fox now, for reasons known, he had turned around and actually did decide to help her. More so, that same day, he helped her get rid of the ANBU chasing her around, even if it is for one day.

She had mixed feelings of the fox, of hating him for her almost dying, to thinking he is a creep of how he acts around women, thinking he is weird and causes a scene of things. But with all that negativity, she at least has some respect for him as he did have her back when she was more wanting to be away from the anbu. Maybe that's why she can't make a full wrath of things to say to him now, because she does feel like he deserves at least a little bit of respect.

Maru waited to hear the child cut loose but all he got was her telling him that he stole her glasses and made it rain on her. "Right selfish attitude, wrong delivery. Now I know you're sorta hesitant right now but don't forget that I am not a good person." he admitted, not really ashamed of it because being bad is praised at his home on the spine. "Look, I'm only going to be around until I complete my hours. My kind are known to be notoriously unreliable so if you want to stand up for yourself you're gonna have to at least show that you can." he stated making it clear what his reasons were for being here at least for now. Maru could just use his tauts to get the child riled up, however he decided to take a different approach since the child was probably more sensitive than he thought. Maybe she just needed a little push and pushing buttons was always one of Maru's strong suits.

"Tell ya what." Maru pulled the magazine that he had from underneath his armpit, raising up. "Right now you're not really worth my attention, so I'm going back to looking at this. You do what you can to make me look up, see you, and know that you exist otherwise you won't get nothing from me and will have to sign that hours sheet. Grow some balls, get me to look up then after we'll start unlocking your gifts a bit at a time." with the real lesson set in motion, he turned around, opened his magazine and sat down turning the page to a new model. If the child wanted to stand up for herself, she had to start with speaking up for herself because her whole personality right now gave him the damsel in distress vibe like an unpopular shinobi that his spirits speak about in whispers among themselves. He knew that she had it in her, just she needed to come out with it because out there in the real world holding back might get you killed… or worse.

After opening up his magazine and what he looked at caused the fox's jaw to drop and his mouth to begin watering from the glorious sight of the fox girls of the wonderful Foxy Nine-Tails. He already fell in love with this next model, a floofy girl who only had one three tails, the gallery of his three tail's model didn't disappoint. She was a confident brown haired lady, her smug smile got the perverted nin hot and bothered. Her cute fox ears were to die for, the busy brown and white tails looked brushed for the photoshoot making men like Maru wish they were there to floof the neatly brushed tails. The kitsune on the page wore a top that kinda looked similar to a white kimono to give her a more traditional look however her bottoms was a short red skirt that exposed those smooth legs of hers… sometimes teasing her viewers with thinking they will get a pantie shot only for her to block the view with her tail however what caught Maru's eye was a small heart in the two pages. The pictures of the kitsune was hot as it is but when Maru rubbed the pages as hard as he could with his thumbs the three tails left a treat for her viewers because on her page there were two more flaps that opened up. Maru held the dirty magazine up then opened it up to reveal what the three tail's tried to keep hidden then what Maru saw made blood leak down his nose and his face turn beet red, becoming lost in his perverted fantasies he forgot that he was even in the forest having to teach Ayana then began daydreaming of the three tail's.

The way he had talked to her, was basically him reminding her that he was not a good person. Sure, yeah he was right, but there has to be some sort of good in there, right? The fox did decide to save her, and he did shoo off an anbu that she didn't really want to deal with.

He had told her to stand up for herself. And finally, he gave her a sort of test. Basically make him notice her rather than read some stupid book.

The book... As Ayana started to pay more attention to the book, it seemed to not have an interesting title. Thinking back with her time with Maru, she had given him two different names. Mr. Fox. And Creep. And judging from his... Nosebleed and how he is reacting. She will definitely be calling him Creep now.

"You know, Creep." She started, "You'd have better chance at women if you weren't so perverted. It was a small jab in the side, though she doubts he even heard her. "Though... I guess as someone as yourself... You have to take what you can get. Because we all know, a random picture or a cardboard cutout can't run away from a perv like you." She kind of hated doing this. It felt wrong to demean someone. But Ayana has to remind herself it is for this lesson and to back up the women that would have to deal with such a thing as Creep.

"I mean, honestly, what woman would want to get with a guy like you unless if they were blind, deaf, or under a genjutsu that you put on them? And don't get me started on your community service. Creep, you are so desperate to get rid of the community service to try to scam a little girl that you had saved from an accident you had caused in the first place." It almost seemed to roll off the tongue now of throwing these insults. Ayana felt wrong saying all that stuff. But now... Part of her is kind of almost excited too. Saying the stuff she wanted to say to him for being such a creep and trying to scam her.

"Why are you so desperate to get rid of your community service hours anyways? What did you do that was big enough for you to want to try to scam me, but now have to hear me nagging at you while you drool and nosebleed over something you most likely won't get." And with that, she was all out of anger. She said what she wanted. And it exhausted her more than she is willing to admit. A reminder to herself to keep the insults on he down low, only for the people that may actually need it.

Maru could've been like this forever, but just as his daydream was getting good Ayana wasn't being the quiet meek girl that he knew she had been. Not letting it deter him from his magazine, he let the child rant on about him, something that he could only compare to a child beating on the door for a glass of water when he was clearly busy. Well he guessed that he asked for it, like literally asked for it, so when the child was done with her rant he flipped the page not even looking up from the page. "That's better! If I didn't think highly of myself and love some good ol' degradation I'd actually have my feelings hurt!" Maru yelled, nothing like some good old name calling from a low ranking child to brighten up his day. Not only did the child have Maru's attention, but she also proved to be able to cut through his pride like a butter knife through butter.

"Though I think the part about genjutsu is a bit much. I'd actually just like to go to my friendly neighborhood slums and get a nice looking escort, go to some other dimension where my behavior is okay, or just play a nice guy! I've been in a play once and a reality show so like… my skills in acting are pretty good… in fact it was because of my acting that I got community service!" Maru admitted, finally looking up for a moment he thought about telling Ayana exactly why he got the community service since he hasn't had any humans to agree with him on how he carried himself during the mission. Though he didn't know how she would handle it because well she was a child, human and girl so naturally emotions would be involved. Heck it was only emotional testimony that got him slapped with community service. A anbu monkey who didn't really like him for some reason and a weeping medical nin it wasn't that hard to get the book thrown at him.

"Well… if you are curious then why I got community service was because I blew up a town when I was pretending to be a God punishing the people for a mission." Maru admitted, his voice didn't show any malice in his tone. "Like the mission was a success since we got the weapons but the trail was suuuuuuuper unfair! Some medical nin was crying about how the town was gone, like a whole mess and the Monkey! GOD THAT ANBU MONKEY! She literally told Raikage that it was a warzone and that hundreds were killed for no reason! Even finishing me off by calling me blood thirsty for blowing up a town! Blood thirsty! Can you believe that?!" Maru sounded completely outraged at the comment that he was blood thirsty, he was just playing a role and causing a huge distraction so it would be easier for his team to make it out.

"I mean it is like killing weeds with poison or watering grass where we KNOW where bugs live. There will be casualties! Like okay so you saw a mother crying over her dead child that was caught in the first wave of attacks. Would the child be dead if she decided to not have kids? Okay so maybe hundreds of innocent civilians were killed because of me. Would those people be dead if those same had of grown a spine sooner and overthrow the chakra hating terrorist before the village got involved? It's those peoples fault that they are dead not mine! I was just acting so I could distract them so my team could get in and out! That's all!" he shouted, even having to stand up in order to make his point be heard. Like he literally liberated the town from enemy control and was punished. He really didn't see the big deal but yeah that's why he got community service. Blowing up a small village.

It seemed that Maru rather enjoyed all of her insulting that she had given him. Even accepted it like it was a gift. Except for when she had said that he only forces his charms in to women by using Genjutsu. Well... Ayana guessed Creep isn't a total animal. He then got on to the fact of he got most of his charms by acting. And eventually, that acting was the very thing that had made him have his community service.

He... He killed off a whole town? And the way he was saying it, made her grit her teeth. He wasn't talking maliciously, but rather as if all those people's lives meant nothing to him. As if it was their whole fault for dying. He is using the very same tactic of trying to convince her that she was in the wrong when he had saved her.

"What did you feel?" Ayana asked. "What did you feel when you saw a kid my age dead from something you had caused. Or a beautiful woman that may or may not be in your Creep fantasies book mangled and broken from what you've done. Hmph. Never mind, it's not like you would care. I could imagine the only thought running through your mind was how much trouble you were going to get into. Not the sorrow, that you had caused other people. How people, oppressed and under rule of some terrorists, are now hating life even more after seeing someone they know and love dead. These chakra hating terrorists may have been bad, but what you have done may have only strengthen their causes. You proved to the survivors there that shinobi with a lot of power don't care about anyone else. If you did, you would have found a better solution than to kill off a whole town. Maybe they did 'grow a spine', but all those that did decide to stand up against these people were killed or worst. What am I even saying. It's not like you would even care to look from another person's point of view.

The little girl looked away from him. She refused to look at the person that she has to take lessons from. "I'll sign your stupid community service hours for however much time you want. But after we are done with the lesson here. I don't want to speak to you ever again."

She was angry, something beyond the anger that she had when she emanated that light in the store when she was with both Creep and Kotone. More angry than just a few moments ago, she had to insult Creep into putting down his perv book. It was the calm kind of anger that dwells deep into people that makes them suddenly go off on someone if they so much as breathe the wrong way. How can someone put blame on everyone but themselves when they were the ones that had caused something like kill almost everyone in a town?

Maru should've known better to vent his frustrations with this child. Granted what he did was unforgivable for some people but could she blame him for not feeling anything about what he did. He didn't even see that whole episode, it was just something told to him by his son which he vented to as well. It's pretty hard to feel for people when he didn't even see the deaths, just the screams of terror and marching armored men who were trying to oppose him. "That's a little dramatic don't you think? The mission said the civilians were forming a military, so excuse me if I just assumed that the city was full of terrorist." Maru shot back at the child. "Besides when we got there, those weird cultists got an order to destroy our village. If I hadn't blown up the city to show just what one monster could do and how flawed their plan was then we'd have those people approaching the wall instead of trying to plan for an assault on the capital city! Fear is an effective tool if you use it right." he explained. Fear was something that he, as a youkai, felt strongly about since in his culture fear equals respect.

"By destroying the town, I sent a warning to their capital letting them know that they may be next. It delayed their plans because they fear they'd be attacked next, most of us the peace to do our jobs. Those people being dead is what's maintaining public order right now. If one rogue monster could do that to a small town what would happen if they attack a village where most villagers are carrying that kind of firepower? The fear they feel is what is giving us peace and we could even use the fear of another attack to manipulate certain civilians into flocking to the village cause the terrorist clearly cannot take down one shinobi much less an entire army." Maru already knew the answer, mass murder plus the unesserary death of low-ranks and civilians of the village. However, though he was making some good points but the child wasn't hearing it, even demanding that he give her the paper so she could sign for the hours. Well if she was going to sign then Maru guessed that it was okay besides she still owed him for the other day since she ran off.

But just as she was about to reach into his mask to give the child the paper, she started to emanated that weird light which already started to make him sick just looking at it. Maru was smart this time, moving 14 feet away and looking away from the child. "Would you stop with the holy chakra! I'm really sensitive to that crap so calm yourself and stop with the holiness. Its upsetting my chakra system or something.” he demanded, keeping far away until the child stoped with the glowing. Strange, he never used to be this sensitive to holy chakra before. Perhaps the evil spirit in him was just getting upset from the holy chakra so it was making him feel what its feeling, that or he’s been hanging around his youkai too much… or the rituals…. or the spirits of dead tengu hes eaten… or maybe his Maru cells are acting up again. Could be any number of things but for right now he needed his hours. Pulling the paper from underneath his mask and a pen from his hair; the fox folded the paper into a paper air plane, put the pen in the center of the plane then let it fly! The paper only made it halfway there before it landed halfway to where the child had been standing. ” Okay for saving you from death thats 2 hours, escort fee is about 3. Holdinag and drying your clothes is 1 along with a 50 yen charge for chakra usage. You had me save you from a anbu that’s 4 hours, late fee for you running away 1 hour, another 500 yen for keeping your clothes and having them pressed. Last but not least the tutoring along with excessive use of holy chakra against a cursed individual will cost you 4 hours and a good review for my pain and suffering. So……..” Maru paused to do the math in his head and once he came up with the total of debt she owed he snapped his fingers ”15 hours, 550 yen cash, and a six foxfire review to show future customers.”

Ayana listened, but didn't speak, and rather, she didn't even look at Maru as he had tried to explain himself. Still saying that he was in the right, of how demonstrating his power was the only way to get the point across to the terrorists to keep them from launching a further attack, this time, from what he is saying, they would have attacked Cloud next. So part of her thinks that he was right. But he didn't have to kill off hundreds of innocents in the process! Ayana gave him a weird look when he had moved away from her and asked her to stop with the holy chakra. Ayana was confused for a second, then realized that her chakra must have been reacting with her feelings, she calmed herself down and the light went away. And finally he started to punch in numbers, talking out loud of how much he would want signed off. And then he talked about her paying him along with something called a foxfire review?

The girl only shook her head, "I'll give you twenty hours instead. We made no deal of me paying you money, and I don't know what a 'foxfire' is, though I'm guessing that is your 'customer service'. So twenty hour, take it, or leave it. Better than your fifteen that you had offered.

Maru thought for a moment to think, well he didn't scam the child out of money but he did get an extra 5 hours! 20 hours was great so he decided not to continue this con game. "Okay, I'll take the 20 hours then. That'll be good enough." agreeing to the child's offer, the fox nearly forgot something. "OH! Almost forgot to give you back your clothes." Maru reached inside his third tail to rummage through the fur, pulling out a bunch of weird items like a rubber chicken, furry cuffs, and even a eye bat thing. Finally he found it! When he pulled it out of his fur, Ayana would find that her jeans and the shirt had been neatly pressed then wrapped with a red ribbon as though it was brand new.

"Here ya go! Your clothes and with an added bonus for your cooperation you get one of my deepest apologies for the whole… stealing your glasses, making it rain on you, and the whole ruckus I caused in that store." Maru apologized, his ears dropping just a bit so he could at least look like he was serious about it. Once the apology was done, he went back to acting like his old self thought he wasn't sure if he should approach. "Alright now same time, walk slowly and no holy chakra." once he made it clear that he didn't want another blast of holiness he took one step forward. Then another, then another, then another. Moving one step at a time, slowly extending the clothes towards Ayana for her to take and keeping the other hand ready to take his community service paper. So far, nothing to worry about but since the child could flair up a holy wave at any time he didn't know.

The girl had that moment of realization that Maru still had her clothes, which she didn't know wether or not that was a good thing or a bad thing. And then he started to rummage through one of his tails. Part of her wondered how everything managed to stay in place inside the fur of a foxes tail, but she shook her head, deciding not to think too much on it.

Finally, he pulled our her clothes, clean, pressed, and wrapped in a bow. It almost seemed too good. And then the unexpected happened. Maru had decided to give her an apology. Part of her is thinking that this was also just a ruse, but the way he said it, how his fox ears are drooping, makes her think that she should believe him. But then she reminded herself that he told her that he was a good actor.

"Okay. I forgive you at least for those things." Ayana looked over the paper, before bringing out a pen and writing twenty in the hours box, and signing her name where it told her to sign her name.

"And I don't want any of your foxy business like trying to trick or make me a fool. And none of this nerd stereotyping business." She told or rather demanded as response for him telling her to walk slowly and no using holy chakra.

She did as she was told, holding the documents in one hand, the other ready to grab her clothes. As soon as the documents touched Maru's hand, Ayana grabbed her clothes.

Maru was satisfied when she accepted his apology at least for those things. She was probably looking for an apology from him anyway which was why she might have always brought up the whole ordeal. As a playboy, he picks up on certain things that the ladies won't say and one of those things was knowing when to apologise so they'd at least be happy enough not to bring it up… at least not until they get into a heated argument? Though she let some of what he's done go, she did want more from him. Namely to not trick her like he'd normally would do but what really hurted his soul was the no nerd stereotyping. Those nerd jokes were one of his best, he even had a list of things to say to her in any situation if he really wanted to but if no nerd jokes was what she wanted then the fox guessed he at least could. "Fine I'll stop with the nerd jokes and pranks. Common some of those were actually funny." he stated though as promised, Maru won't try to trick her. Guess the jokes that he had in store for her will have to go to the next person he decided to pick on for no particular reason.

Maru slowly walked, holding out the clothes and as soon as his paper was in reach he quickly snatched the paper then let go of the child's clothes. He looked at the Ayana, then looked at the document which had the 20 hours as agreed and he was outright satisfied. "Welp I guess I get some me time! Pleasure doing business with you and you're dismissed. Just walk in the same direction as me and you'll find your way out. he began walking away, though something still gnawed at him making him stop in his tracks. Though he wanted to just walk away, there was a small part of him that kinda wanted to stay back rather than just leaving. His mind drifted off to his twins Airi and Yoko again and their last conversation. Looking back on it, he wished that he'd handle the whole situation differently rather than yelling. He especially regretted what he said to poor Yoko that, at the time, he didn't even acknowledge as being something other than another monster to push around. Thanks to that conversation, Yoko won't even talk to him no matter how many times he says that he was sorry and has been giving him the cold shoulder till this day. Both twins still living in those damn Anbu dorms just to spite him.

He could easily just walk away, be done with this whole situation but Maru wasn't just going to just leave with this kind of tension lingering over him. Maru looked back, a grim smile on his face poking both index fingers together and tried to make sure that they really were cool. "Umm… on second thought. How about you walk with me for a bit? I'm terribly frightened by the weird creatures that lurk around here and I could use a little protection. I'll pay you after escorting me out and I'll guard you without charge or any more hours…" he said not wanting to admit the real reason as to why he wanted to tag along with her. His fox ears drooped though he still kept on smiling, waiting to see if the child falls for it and if not… he'll just follow her in order to feel better about himself again.

The girl was happy that Maru had also agreed on more more nerd stereotyping and no tricking her. And with that, they were on their way out of the Forest, Maru telling her to just walk in the same direction as him and they'll be out in no time. Well... It was good he learned that she didn't want to talk all that much to him, especially since she did say she never wanted to talk to him again.

But then the weirdest thing happened. As in weird for Maru. She always imagined this guy to be carefree and not really caring. But the man fox thing stopped in his tracks and seemed lost in thought. And not the type of lost in thought reading a pervy book. She mainly waited for him since he knew the way better than her.

Finally Maru snapped out of it, turning to the girl and asking if she can just hang around him some more, 'protect' him, even going as far as saying he'll pay her and also protect her without asking for money or hours in exchange. Ayana had to admit it, she was wary of Maru and doesn't really understand his motives and the sudden change of pace. Finally, the kindness that is in her heart betrayed her and she responded, "Yeah. Yeah, fine. But you don't have to pay me." And with that, the girl followed Maru back out of the Forest.
