Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Hoshi sent a flyer out as usual. It was posted around the town advertising one thing. A training session about teamwork and coordination. It was listed in perfect writing from a computer. From housing to business districts it would be seen and welcoming a multitude. Hoshi figured this worked as he’d always find at least one student!
The boy stood at his position in the forest, with three clones, a shadow servant whose is appearance took the form of an unknown shinobi. His summon, Mizumi, the female otter shinobi mute was also present. She stood just under five feet with yellow armor on the thigh, shoulder, shin, forearm and chest. Shell shuriken where kept handy at the waist. The group stood stoic.
From here it was just a matter of waiting and the lot would just talk about random banter until a visit. Hoshi, above anyone else did not. He would await an eager student, if any, in the distance coming into proximity. The activation of doujutsu would expand his vision to a couple miles. His vision was in a circle, only a slight blind spot that most would never catch onto. His position stoic, laughter conversation made the ambience.

Flyers were seen throughout all of Kumogakure and the one that Kyo and Dakota saw were no different. The duo stood in front of the poster and looked at it for a moment, trying to make heads and tails of what it's about. His reading was still quite rudimentary, having gone so many years living in the wilds as the only human living with beasts, that his ability to read something simple wasn't something to be fond of. He made out several words, getting caught up by the word 'cooperation'. His ability to speak the common language has improved since returning to Kumogakure, causing him to tear down the poster and finding a kid, about the age of 13 running around. Grabbing the kid by the collar, he demanded to know what the flyer said. Nervous, the kid translated it for him before Kyo let him go.

"Cooperation training?" the man said before letting out a little groan, turning his eyes towards the massive wolf by his side. "The only person I need to cooperate with is you, isn't it, hm?" Kyo said before reaching up to pet the massive white wolf standing by his side. As much as Dakota hated the eye, she shot Kyo a cold gaze as if to tell him that it was a necessary evil. There had been some times where Kyo's stubbornness and lack of wanting to work with others nearly got the duo killed. It was high time that Kyo started to integrate into society as a human being. He wasn't in the wilderness alone any more and the threats to their existence isn't one of nature, herself, trying to gain the upper-hand. What the duo had to face was much, much scarier. They are now under threat by humanoid weapons called shinobi. Unpredictable, unjustified killing machines that want nothing more than useless squabbles and needless suffering. At the very least, when Kyo kills someone, he does it quickly (unless, of course, you were his parents).

He knew where the place was, finding that place to feel more comfortable and suitable to the lifestyle he grew to love than the hellish paved nightmare that is the main city. Making their way through the forest, Kyo activated his ability to sense particular smells. Just the scent of the people within the forest was enough to drive him towards their position. After making his way towards the group of shinobi and what appeared to be an otter, Kyo placed a hand upon Dakota's forehead as if to tell her to calm herself. He sniffed the air for a moment before looking towards the group. He had troubles detecting which one was which but that wasn't important.

He held up the poster, facing it towards the group of shinobi. "You're going to teach me how to cooperate? As much as I dislike the idea, Dakota thinks it would be a 'good' idea. So, teach me to cooperate," Kyo said in a rather annoyed manner.

It was early afternoon, and the academy hadn't opened its doors today; which left its students with much desired free time. Doi was casually walking down the main street of Kumogakure's shopping district when he stopped to look at a flyer on a store window. He'd seen the same flyer posted on a couple bulletin boards he'd passed, but didn't pay it any mind at first. The word 'training' caught his eye after he decided to take a breif look at the paper.

Doi was always open to getting some extra training in, and it seemed this event didn't have any rank requirements. He had nothing else to do, and it sounded like a great opportunity for him. Doi took the flyer off the window and began to read the rest of its contents as he continued walking down the street. It wasn't too long before the event's starting time according to the flyer, so Doi set course for the designated location.

Upon arriving at the forest, Doi was a bit unsure where exactly the training event was going to be held. He began to walk around the forest in search of clues. It wasn't long before he picked up on a pair of older shinobi chatting as they walked passed where he stood, though. There was no solid proof that following the pair would lead him to the location of the training, but it was a chance he was willing to take. After following the voices for a couple of meters, he finnaly ended up amongst a group of shinobi; most of them holding flyers similar to his.

As he looked around the group, Doi was able to notice that he was one of the youngest people in attendance. Not recognizing anyone, Doi decided to keep to himself and patiently wait for the training to begin.

Hoshi didn’t have to wait long for someone to show. The first to appear, a pure Snow White coated wolf at which Hoshi gasped at. He even clasped his hands at the full grown beast accompanied by a teen maybe he same age as him from the look. The duo looked inseparable from the start. What made the moment even more memorable was the words from the male Shinobi at which Hoshi laughed at. He bellowed a deep laugh. He snapped his fingers as all clones lined up in response. His summon, the female Shinobi otter would take stand in front of the clones and shadow servant, stoic and silent as could be.

“Yes! I will teach you and your companion cooperation! In various situations! As a Kumogakure Shinobi, you may be enlisted to team missions. I’m th-“

He was cut short by a dark skin male with a frosty top of Snow White spikes. Hoshi grinned. He truly wondered if his previous sessions or even reputation around the village was becoming known as another approached. The boy said nothing and so Hoshi continued with his lesson.

“The three of you, will be put against myself, Mizumi, a friend of mine of the marine mammal contract family. She is very adept to those attempting to be hidden and when she speaks you may find yourself in trouble. My clones and I will also be around. First lesson!”

Hoshi tossed a smoke bomb at the ground which blew up in a thick cloud of smoke leaving only his voice to resonate as vision became blurred.

“You have three minutes before the smoke clears in which you will be sought out by my team. If you are caught, prepare for a minor engagement. You’re goal is to be discrete and avoid contact. In light of a fight, do what you can to escape. After all is said and done, I will assess your progress.”

With that several smoke bombs were fired off as the smoke thickened.

Doi watched silently as a longhaired boy around his age began to speak. The young shinobi was accompanied by a few clones and a summon animal; a shinobi otter by the look of it.He figured this boy was the one in charge of these training lessons, despite appearing to not be much older than himself. The longhaired boy seemed like an experienced shinobi compared to Doi who was only about to graduate from the academy. The number of clones and the ninja summon alongside him only supported this idea.

Introducing his shinobi otter summon, Mizumi, the longhaired boy proceeded to briefly explain the objective of today's training. Doi and the other ninja present would have to do their best to hide from the boy, his clones and his summon.Throwing down a smoke bomb, the longhaired boy said that they had approximately three minutes to hide before his group began to actively seek them out.

Doi turned to look at the other shinobi accompanying him as the long-haired boy disappeared into a thick cloud of smoke. The man, who was accompanied by his wolf companion, looked like he was a seasoned shinobi. This made Doi feel more confidant that they had a chance to provide a great effort as a group. Doi just hoped that his own inexperience didn't ruin their chances. Doi thought he'd suggest moving separately since he felt that moving together would make them easier targets. He may just be an academy student, but he figured he could hold his own in a situation like this. He was aware this his little idea did contradict the purpose of the cooperation training, but didn't have any other ideas.

"I think we should split up for now," Doi said. "I think it'll make us a little harder to find."

[col]Kyo raised an eyebrow and a toothy grin crossed his face at the prospects of fighting. His eyes turned from the one giving the instruction to the other masked clones in front of them. The little otter, at first glance, seemed insignificant but the laws of nature dictated that one shouldn't underestimate even the smallest creature. Needless to say, this little blue otter was quite the threat, even if it seemed huggable and adorable. An explanation of being adept at keeping an eye onto those who wish to remain hidden simply made Kyo laugh. "No hiding here," he said in a cocky manner. Not that he could hide with how massive Dakota was.

His eyes dart to the newcomer for a moment to size them up. He didn't have any expression upon his face as he looked the boy named Doi up and down for a moment. Instructions were given which caught Kyo's attention once more. A game of hide and seek. Tch! He isn't one for stealth and would much rather stand his ground and fight. But instructions are instructions. Doi suggested the group splits into two. In a class about cooperation, someone wants to split up. Kyo laughed a little bit at the irony and shrugged his shoulders. "Suit yourself," he said right as the smoke bombs hit the ground.

Kyo looked to Dakot with a nod as the smoke bombs started to thicken. Dakota jumped into the air and 'dynamically' marked just about everything in the area. Afterward, Kyo activated his hyper sense of smell before jumping onto the wolf and disappearing into the forest. The two rushed through the forest, feeling the wind blow through their hair until they got to a good point in the forest. Kyo formed a couple handseals, leaving behind a single water clone standing in the forest to act as a decoy. Leaving instructions for the clone, he and Dakota climbed up the trees all the way up towards the top of the tree to remain out of sight.

As the duo were climbing up the tree, Dakota's appearance changed and Kyo's claws grew even bigger. A tail even sprouted out of Kyo's back as the two continued their climb up the tree before stopping near the top, grabbing onto the tree with just their claws and none of their chakra. The chakra could be seen and thus Kyo wanted to remain out of sight. Now, if only the instructor and his otter only got a single drop of the 'dynamic marking' upon their bodies, it would make tracking and smelling them SO much easier. Now they wait.|

The cloud began to fade and the two were gone. Hoshi stood alone by himself and felt the tingle of something else. Mizumi on the other hand caught sight of what the canine attempted and avoiding her marking. The clones were struck by the shadow servant was so small it made a near escape. The sight was clear now and Hoshi dried himself of whatever liquid with a horrid stench and it clicked in his mind all at once. 'Did that canine just?! Tch!'

"Mizumi take the back. You fools(clones) spread out and cover ground!"

Hoshi's instructions were met with immediate action. Everyone dispersed leaving only the real Hoshi disgusted with his own smell. He removed his chuunin flack jacket, the shirt underneath and began to rub dirt over his bare torso. He did so until his skin complexion darkened from the soil. Once he was satisfied he too joined the hunt. A yell was heard when a clone intercepted Kyo's clone. Mizumi just stood meditating, she'd be able to eventually catch on to the motions of others through vibration. But the otter was still young and needed to fortify her concentration before it became active.

Hoshi arrived to the clone, or where it was before it dispersed after being piled upon by several clones.

"A clone jutsu. VERY SMART! I LIKE YOUR THINKING!"

The shadow servant was on the hunt for Doi. He'd search every tree, behind every rock. His shadowy appearance gave him chance to blend in well with hidden places. But at this time the servant seemed to be distraught at finding the shinobi. Soon enough he was accompanied by two clones while Hoshi and one more remained. He rubbed his chin and looked around, eventually he took to the ground, looking at leaves that were crushed. Which soon made a trail, which was followed by damage branches, Hoshi was following a trail, but whether it was right or wrong would soon be known.

Doi was now quickly running through the tree-covered forest. Doi saw Dakota, Kyo's wolf companion, mark almost everything in the immediate area. Doi managed to evade the brunt of the fluids despite being near them at the time due to his own luck. The duo of man and wolf immediately took off in their own direction after that. They must've gotten pretty far in that short amount of time since Doi hadn't seen them again since that moment.

He stopped to hide behind a large tree for few moments. Doi needed to gather his thoughts in order to properly approach this. Mindlessly running around would get him no where in a case like this. The longhaired boy and his otter had probably begun their search by now. Doi knew he had to watch out for the boy's clones as well as the shadow servant.

It dawned on him that the tree he was hiding behind was casting a shadow. He may not have known much about the shadow servant jutsu, but he was pretty sure they could come out of shadows. Doi looked out from behind the tree to make sure the coast was clear and began to move. The current objective was to find a spot that didn't compromise his security.

'I need a spot that doesn't cast much of a shadow so I can see that shadow thing coming'

Doi knew it would be difficult since spots in the forest that didn't have shadows were very few. There were trees and rocks all around. In his search, Doi stumbled upon another tree that looked like it could meet his requirements. The sun was hitting a tree in such a way that the shadow it casted was very small. He could get rid of the small shadow by channeling lighting chakra to his hands if need be; the technique produced a small amount of bright light.

[col]His clone was discovered. Tch! That wasn't quite what he wanted, wanting to do some diversionary stuff with the clone, but them's the breaks. Kyo threw together a couple handseals before a group of wolves [Howl of the Pack] appeared from behind the group belonging to Hoshi with a loud howl being the harbinger of their arrival. The wolves, originating and running along the ground, started to attack the group of clones, including Hoshi, himself. A single wolf lead the pack of 5 towards the group of shinobi bearing a scar upon it's face as it charged in towards the group of clones. While stealth wasn't his preferred method, he did understand the art of misdirection, and he did it well in his own eyes.

Using this as a means of distraction, he formed together even more handseals causing 2 more water clones to appear right next to the Beast Cloned shinobi and transformed wolf. Seeing this from his perch high up in the trees, he took this opportunity to flee. He gave a count-down to his clones and ordered them to go further into the forest while Dakota and he would return back towards the starting point. He was hoping the distraction from the wolves and perhaps the clones heading further inward would either completely distract them or, at least, split the forces enough to make them into a manageable group. A group of 4 isn't a worthwhile group that he'd want to deal with so cutting it down to 2v2 would be ideal.

Once the countdown reached zero, he closed his fist and the two water clones took off in the direction further inwards into the forest, making as much of a racket as possible. After the clones fled, he turned to look towards Dakota and did a smaller countdown of two to zero before the two of them discretely fled in the opposite direction, back to where the class originally started. Most people don't return to places they've already tracked, himself included, so he would use this mental hiccup of even the most seasoned hunters and double back on his progress, trying to keep their footprint or path-making to a minimum.

It was bound to happen that their travels within the tree would leave a trail of breadcrumbs, breaking twigs and leaves as they weren't too good at actually fleeing from things. His scars were a testament to his lack of running away in his past. This was supposed to be a class on cooperation, but Kyo most certainly worked better alone (with Dakota) than he did with others. He didn't wonder, nor did he particularly care, for the well-being of his partner Doi. His well-being wasn't something that bothered nor was it something that even concerned him in the slightest. If he ended up kicking the bucket in this class, Kyo wouldn't lose any sleep. But the objective is cooperation, which caused Kyo to stop in his tracks, both holding steady within a tree and he took the time to think.

~I really have to work with that guy? Ugh. Fine.~ he thought to himself before circling around, slowly jumping from tree-to-tree, taking his time to make sure the two of them don't make any unnecessary noises. After going from tree-to-tree, he started to make his way to where he believed Doi would be. He still attempted to keep himself covered in the canopy of the trees and using almost no chakra to keep himself and Dakota clung to the tree. He looked around the trees, sniffing the air to look for the one he's supposed to be cooperating with. The boy left a very faint smell, but it wasn't enough to get a proper pin-point on the trail. If he could only cross into Doi's path, he'd be able to follow the path of the scent.|

"Hmmm?"

A large howl was heard from behind which caused him to look at the horde of wolves. Hoshi thought to himself, 'What is that kid doing?' The group of five surrounded with a scar bearing wolf taking lead snarling to inflict fear into Hoshi and clones. The wolves begun the attack and were followed up by clones of Kyo, though Hoshi could not tell just yet. He was still trying to figure out what the kid was doing revealing himself and surrounding his teacher and then it all clicked in his head.

"A diversion? Very clever!"

Meanwhile, the shadow servant was moving from tree to tree looking for the others, while Mizumi stayed at the starting point and finally activated her sonar. A small hum could be heard from her as she chanted a mantra from her family language. The clicking of her tongue gave her insight on the vibrations around her in turn, it would reveal moving objects within her radius. Her eyes were closed, from the outside she would appear as if she wasn't paying attention. In reality, she had already located the three and was seeking to find a way to contact her master, Shouyu.

Deep into the forest, the clones were being dispersed by the wolf horde, leaving only Hoshi and a single clone. The scarred wolf attempted to strike Hoshi. And he did, until that Hoshi exploded into smoke, dispersing his final clone as Hoshi approached behind the water clone of Dakota with a kick. Instantly his foot became drenched in water.

"A water clone? Nice!"

Mizumi who stood stoic took off. In a dash she'd behind the same tree as Doi but adjacent from the boy and out of view, though they were extremely close. Mizumi spoke out in a soft yet quiet voice.

"Give up. I've found you."

"Give up. I found you."

"Ahhhhh!" Doi yelled in surprise. He'd just found his perfect hiding spot and was already discovered by the enemy. There weren't many options for him in this situation. He didn't know any other jutsu besides thunderfist, and it was primarily used for attacking. He could try using the technique to temporarily blind the shinobi otter. The only problem with that was the amount of light the jutsu produced. The light it would give off wouldn't be enough to blind anyone with shinobi training at all. 'There goes that idea. I need to do something else fast...'Doi thought. The session just began and he was already close to failing the objective.

'Wait a second... otters are marine animals... that's it! Doi had just found his plan.

Water is a great conductor for his lightning jutsu. As long as he was right in assuming that Mizumi was weak to lighting, he could manage to temporarily stall the shinobi otter if he could touch her with his technique. Doi doubted the shinobi otter would stay still and just let him touch her, though. There was a possibility that he could manage to get close enough if he deceived her somehow. He was only an academy student, so the Mizumi might just underestimate him.

"Alright, you got me." Doi said as he inched closer to the otter. He just hoped Mizumi would take his words as a sign of resignation.
As soon he'd gotten within execution range, Doi channeled his chakra and went to strike her. The likeliness of him actually making contact was minuscule, but he'd take his chances. A minute or two was all he needed to make a decent escape if he channeled all his chakra to his feet and focused on running.

[col]Kyo caught up to where Doi was with the otter. Standing by, he waited to see what Doi would do. He clung onto the tree with his claws and dug into his bag. He noticed lightning welling up within Doi and as he rummaged through his bag, he pulled out a vial of a vile substance. A green liquid sloshed around within the glass tube. Clearing his throat, he took the vial of acid and threw it towards the otter. While the otter is a part of another Cloud shinobi, Kyo didn't particularly care for it's well-being as it didn't really have much value to himself nor to Dakota. At the moment, the otter was considered an enemy and the objective of this lesson was to cooperate with Doi. So cooperate he will; though he cooperates very begrudgingly. Kyo tossed the acid vial towards the otter. It was Kyo's stance that if Doi got covered in the acid, himself, that's his problem.

Kyo pulled out another vial and threw another one at the otter. After throwing two bottles of corrosive material at the otter, Kyo closed his pouch shut and gave a hook of the head towards Dakota and the two remained in the trees while changing which tree to remain in position for. The two leapt from tree to tree, keeping Doi and the otter in sight. While their presence is no longer a secret since the otter is pretty perspective of their surrounding, he will simply back-up Doi instead of taking his glory.|

The real Hoshi was still battling a group of wolves and Kyo’s Water clone. The battle was taking too much time but he was impressed with Kyo’s tactic of distraction. Yet, he hadn’t found the latter so he wondered with the snowy topped Shinobi was fairing in the lesson. Hoshi was bombarded by the group again, forced to activate his doujutsu in order to slow their movement. He saw every strike as he easily maneuvered passed them, he tossed another smoke bomb and disappeared behind the fleeting smoke clouds. ‘Close call. I wonder where the others are.’ The only one left now would be the roaming shadow servant and Mizumi the quiet.

“Ahhhhh!”

The sound of a shriek gave Hoshi the direction of the others. Hurriedly he ran over to the sound which also alerted his shadow servant. Mizumi was awaiting the boy to give in on his own volition. As he did Mizuko watched with her beaded little black eyes. The same time a vial was headed to crash upon her which caught sight of. Mizumi’s reaction was one of concern and haste. She would immediately seek to dodge the vial, but it she did it would leave the dark skin Shinobi to suffer its effect. And so, Mizumi allowed herself to be struck with a sickening blow and she held onto the boy’s arm. When she was struck she made herself still and light as a feather in order to take in the all recoil and slide backward from impact. Her and the dark skinned Shinobi were safe from first vile which crashed into the dirt and sizzled in contact with a slight steam. A second one was flung into the air from the direction of a near by tree when the shadow servant finally appeared crashing into it. The bottle broke, the contents spilled all over the servant who writhed in pain before dispersing.

Hoshi would appear at the bottom of the tree knocking on its base. Looking up, he could see them moving swiftly tree to tree.

“The jigg is up! Lesson is over! Mizumi.”

The otter rose slowly after taking the full brunt of the youth’s attack. But her once still and nonchalant expression allowed a smirk to creep upon her face.

“Good work. You(he pointed toward Kyo and the dog.) You have a good head on your shoulders for diverting the multitude of everyone deep into the forest to provide cover for yourself, and your team mate. You,(he pointed toward the dark skinned boy) nice work thinking on your toes. My name is Shouyu Hoshi, I’ll be around the village anytime you need any tips or additional training. Also, (he looked over to Kyo again) try some restraint while working together others.”

Doi wasn't expecting the otter to suddenly grip his arm after he made contact and forcefully pushes him away from where they were standing. He didn't have time to think about what because he saw a strange vial hit the Mizumi. She'd protected Doi by taking his attack instead of dodging. The strange vial would've certainly hit the white-haired boy if she hadn't moved him out of the way quickly. The liquid seemed to be acid if the sizzling was any indication. The long-haired shinobi's shadow servant appeared and took out the other vial that was heading their way. Doi cringed as he saw the shadow servant writing pain. He was very happy none of that liquid got on him. Muzimi saved him from serious injury, and he was very thankful for that. "Thank you so much, Mizumi! I don't want to think about what would've happened to me if I got hit with that..." Kyo must've not cared much for him if he was be able to throw vials of acid around with him being in close contact. Doi felt pretty bad for striking the shinobi otter with his lightning jutsu now.

The long-haired boy appeared to notify the group that the lesson has reached its conclusion. The boy, now known to be Shouyo Hoshi, congratulated Doi and his partners. Once he heard what Hoshi, Doi turned to Mizumi and wanted to apologize about hitting her with his thunderfist jutsu before he went home. The otter did take the brunt of the attack to protect him, after all. "I'm sorry for striking you with my jutsu."

Doi then said his goodbyes to Hoshi and Mizumi before turning to nod at Kyo and his wolf companion. With the lesson done, Doi made way for his home. He couldn't wait to tell his classmates about what happened today.

[col]"Tch," was Kyo's reaction to both of his vials missing their target. It was shortly afterward that the one that started the instruction call off the instruction. Kyo reacted the same way with the conclusion of the lesson and the Beast Clone dropped, returning Dakota back to her massive wolf size. Falling from the tree, the massive wolf fell to the ground, landing heavily upon it's four legs with Kyo landing directly next to the wolf, but it in a much more graceful manner. Words of praise was sent his way and then words of caution. He sucked more air between his teeth and shrugged his shoulders. He figured he did more to back-up his teammate than he should have, but 'them's the breaks' apparently.

"Sure," Kyo said as she reached into his pouch and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, pulling out a single stick and lighting it with a lighter. After lighting it, he replaced the lighter and the pack of smokes back into the bag causing Dakota to create some distance between Kyo and herself to avoid the smoke. Kyo is fully aware of Dakota's aversion to the smell and the smoke, but he's quite the selfish individual and Dakota just accepted it at this point. After taking a few puffs, he flicked out the cherry and stepped on it, placing the remainder of the cigarette back into his pouch.

"Until then, I guess," Kyo said before jumping onto Dakota's back and bolting off into the forest.
