Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Umashi was preparing to leave with Odar leading the way when Kaen went through some sort of metamorphosis. Truly, Umashi didn't know what was going on with the man but as he moved to fall, Umashi too a chance at calling a bluff and didn't rush to catch the man. When the man seemingly burst into flames. Turning his head to the side in an inquisitive way, Umashi tried to discern just what he was witnessing when the being that Kaen had become seemed to speak as if someone else was at the wheel. In Umashi's eyes he surely hoped that that meant that he'd be able to at least do something without mucking it up. Wanting to be a bit more on the positive side of things, Umashi opted for a fourth wall breaking joke as he momentarily seemed to be infected with the same original madness of Kaen. "I guess they don't call them the Portland Trailblazers for nothing, huh?" However just as soon as the bout of madness came over him, it was gone and Umashi was back to following Odar.

When they finally made it to the body of water that Odar had started from, Umashi quickly scanned the surrounding area for any immediate signs of danger. Upon not seeing any he stooped low to gather some samples, three in all as he took care to wrap two of the capped test tubes in cloth before standing up with the third. Inspecting it, he didn't see anything out of place but he also didn't want to take any chances despite how careful he was being. Turning to Kaen, Umashi inserted a more world appropriate joke while really hoping that Kaen could come in handy this time.
"Hey, Kaen, could you spit some hot fire on this and see if it burns off clean or if it leaves any visible residue? Sometimes poisons leave behind reminders of what they actually are." Wanting to hand the entire glass test tube to the man, Umashi would move his attention to Odar while continuing to inspect the area. He saw the water, the blood and then the cave, and while it wasn't exactly big enough for Odar to possibly fit in, Umashi wasn't going to just barge in without getting more details. "Odar, thank you so much for bringing us here. I really think that this will help us to find out where your meal was taken! By the way, do you know what's in there?" Asking the question as he pointed towards the cave entrance, Umashi hoped that Odar would have more information for them to use..

It seemed that everyone was in agreement for this particular arrangement, that or didn't care one way or the other. Seemingly unfazed by the transformation, the group followed Odar to the stream that was mentioned. Having not taken very long for the group to arrive, Odar quickly pointed towards the small body of water where his incident occurred. From what he could gather at first glance, it seemed like a fairly regular run of the mill creek. Water depth, normal. Flowers and critters, normal. He was not much of an investigator, save tracking and hunting down prey. Thankfully Umashi was quick on the case and started collecting samples while Kaen stood watch, grazing the horizon for any potential threats or clues. Having seen nothing of worth, he turned his attentions back to Umashi where he quickly handed him a glass test tube partially filled with the stream's water. It seemed clear, for the most part. There were a little flecks of debris inside, but it's a stream in the wild, it can't be perfect. He took the sample from Umashi, who gave instructions to "spit fire" on it to check for it's level of purity. He assumed he just mean to use his obvious fire powers to be utilized as a glorified Bunsen burner. He nodded in agreement and took care to not instantly melt the glass in his hand, slowly raising the temperature in his right hand to heat the water up and began the boiling process.

While they waited, Umashi turned his attentions back to Odar; "Odar, thank you so much for bringing us here. I really think that this will help us to find out where your meal was taken! By the way, do you know what's in there?" He hadn't even noticed the moss overtaken cave in the distance. He was too busy concentrating on not obliterating the sample Umashi had so carefully procured. A moment later and the small sample of water he was given had evaporated completely. Though the results were interesting enough, he attempted to hand it back to Umashi. "Your test results are ready, but this stream is anything but clean..." Upon inspection, Umashi would find the water burned away completely but left a slightly viscous residue on the inner glass surface. It was dark brown/black in color and slightly on the frothy side. The dark substance was still toxically bubbling within the test tube. It was clear now that whatever was going on, this stream had something to do with it. Perhaps the moss covered cave led to a cavern below that fed something up into the water source. They would need to enter to investigate further. He would wait for Umashi to finish his conversation with Odar before venturing forth into the dark unknown.

The duo got to work at once, revealing their tools and commencing an impromptu forensics experiment on the suspicious stream water. Umashi revealed a suitable beaker, and then Kaen used a bit of his fire affinity to boil off most of the water within. The evaporating processed caused a chemical reaction which revealed the solution hidden within. A viscous goo gathered within, and the smell was terrible. The solution in the water was certainly a foreign material of some kind, however, the solution alone was inconclusive to Umashi and Kaen, who were both a bit too new to the region, and would have had trouble identifying this gunk with such little previous exposure to it.

And while most of their surroundings seemed like nothing more than mundane forestry, Umashi noticed the peculiar cave and asked if the giant knew anything about it. The big lug gave a head shake, letting his lower lip wag. “Odar cross stream here all times… But Odar not see cave before.” He then raised his arm, and began scratching the back of his head. “Cave curious indeed” added the behemoth as he stepped over the shinobi, and into the stream. The giant desired to have this blight come to end just as much as the humans, if not more, and had not a problem with stepping out in front as far as his hulking size would let him. It didn’t take him more than a couple steps to cross the stream and knelt down to have a look inside the cave’s entrance for himself. His big feet stepped in something slimy lining the floor; it disgusted Odar, and he took a step back to examine the black gunk on his sole, similar to the stuff in the beaker. “Cave nasty,” he said, simply. “Humans look inside… Odar tell big worm where humans go.” Rather authoritatively, he pointed for Kaen and Umashi to venture down into the dank hole.

Once the Hokage and his Sunan ally approached the cave’s entrance, they’d begin to feel the affronting sensation of dark energy emanating from within the cave. A quick scan around the entrance would reveal square paper seals pasted to the walls. Within the blackness of the entrance, crude steps were carved, which led down an unlit corridor, curving into the darkness. There was a faint glow of dim light coming from around the bend, though, who knew what they’d find once they ventured down.

Looking at the sample, and then having some suspicions confirmed with Odar's words, Umashi rubbed at his temples and closed his eyes as he furiously tried to come up with a decent plan of attack. Unable to come up with one that didn't leave him even the least bit safe from an ambush, Umashi turned to the human torch and decided that the only thing that they could do was simply push on ahead and hope for the best. "Good work with the sample bit . . . but unfortunately we're going to have to get our hands dirty it seems." At that, Umashi pointed to the cave. Though Kaen probably was already fully aware, with his perceived mental state, Umashi figured that it would be best to state the obvious. "I hope that fire of yours isn't only for show. It's probably a trap but I think the best path to take that we have is going in and seeing if that is the source of the toxic ooze poisoning the water. Just don't burn me on my bum, okay?" Saying that last part with a bit of smirk, Umashi would began to walk towards the cave entrance but not before thanking Odar for all of his help. "Thanks Odar! We'll do our best to get to the bottom of this now." Taking deep breath, and then exhaling slowly, Umashi released the bonds that he normally kept on his body and entered the cave, carefully doing his best not to get too deep into the water.

Just don't burn me on my bum, okay?" He chuckled to himself as Umashi joked about his fire possibly being just for show. If only he knew what and who he really was, his tone would be far different. "Rest assured, if my fire touches you, your ass isn't going to be the only thing that is smokin' But I agree, entering this cave is the only option we have left to stop this blight. I intend to sear its existence from this world. Don't fall too far behind, Umashi." With that He set off towards the cave pausing a moment to allow Umashi to finish his conversation. He would allow Umashi to enter first, it only made sense for progressionary purposes. "After you good sir..." As Umashi entered the cave, He would glance around the forest to be sure they weren't being followed. having most likely seen nothing, he burst into flames and followed closely after Umashi.

Venturing down into the darkness of the cave’s exposed portal, the shinobi were met with the odors of death and decay. Squishy mush was incinerated under Kaen’s feet, steaming into a putrid gas as they tread down the black passageway. A light breeze passed through them, creating a sound as the flames over Kaen’s back hissed and waved backward. Umashi was hovering, freeing himself from the chance interaction from the filth surrounding him— but he too was engaged by an unavoidable sensation as they went downward, deeper into the dark.

At the end of the tunnel where it curved into a red glow, the two shinobi would turn the corner and find a large chamber. It was more like a shrine than an ordinary hollowed out space, decorated with glowing crystalline columns, resonating with crimson chakras. The floor of this place was lined with the bones of former enemies, and many beasts which happened into this place. Carapaces of various shapes and sizes created that foul scent but remained whole as if they were never devoured, only left for dead. The chamber was long from the entranced to its rear, where a large pool had a perimeter raised out of the floor and brimmed with more crystalline structure. Within the pool was a viscous black liquid, which ran over the edges and bubbled with signs of something stirring within. This was a place where death thrived.</FONTFACE>

Out from the pool came a large, slender object resembling a tentacle at first glance. The tendril arose out of the liquid, creating a trail beneath it. Serpentine and sinister, the tip of the tendril split open to reveal a silvery eye turned bloody by gushing veins and a restricted black pupil in its center. The slimy purple tendril became longer and longer, coming from the pool and reaching out to stare at the two intruders. With their abilities already flaring in visible displays of power, the creature already knew what would come to pass. The tendril retracted and then multiplied as reinforcements surfaced, and more ooze splashed out in waves. Out from the blackness came a giant spherical being covered in layers of spindly, muscled flesh. One central eye opened, much larger than the tendril eyes, revealing a serpentine oval pupil with a gem-like colorful clarity. The eye glared at these surface walkers daring to intrude upon its domicile, less enraged, and more curious. And this gigantic head continued to ascend, creating vibrations in the air of this cave as it levitated.

</i>

The creature blasted them with a mental script, similar to Kouta’s mental message, but far more powerful and authoritative. It was a telepathic signal strong enough to melt the minds of common men. The language was as old as the age when the Land of Lightning learned its name, and only known by its truest natives. The dialect of Ancient Kaminarian. Still, the pain it would have caused Umashi and Kaen to merely perceive the mental barrage of strange language would have made blood pour from their ears and noses.

Recoiling back with a physical pain enough to knock Umashi to his feet, he fought back vomit as the words that the creature spoke took their toll on him. Always prepared though, Umashi was able to quickly recover due to instinctively "stepping out of time" at the right moment. "Bind the creature!" Not having much of a stomach to explain just what he was trying to do, Umashi could only halfway explain his plan of attack in hopes that they could attempt to talk some sense into it or figure it out. While it was true that the creature was attacking them, the bigger question was if the creature was doing so on purpose. Hoping that Kaen was capable was actually using the finesse of binding an opponent instead of toasting it, Umashi attempted to disable the creature without doing any further harm.

He wrinkled his nose in disgust as the heavy aroma clashed violently with his senses. The wretched steam that rose up from his footsteps compounded on the vile smell that washed over the duo. The flames cascading off his body pushed back the darkness a short way, casting dancing shadows upon the damp walls and ceiling. A draft of wind pushed past the wayward duo seeming to hiss in detest to the uninvited gust. With only a few minutes since the two first entered this tomb of death and decay, they came to a bend that gave way to a malicious red glow. If history taught us anything, it was that red means scary.

The glow was emanating from a large chamber, shrine really, adorned with columns with red glowing chakra waves hummed silently. He quickly noticed the various bodies of creatures littering the floor of the chamber. Some so old only bones remain, others might have wandered in a few days ago and were met with a mysterious death. "Something vile resides within this cave..." That was obvious, but saying it out loud made it somewhat easier to accept. An ever more disturbing sight was that of a strange black goo that seemed to almost teem with life as it bubbled over.

He tensed up and stepped forward into an offensive stance as the black liquid revealed its inner secrets. A lone eye that rose and revealed its true identity. A massive creature that seemed to consists mostly of eyes. He cringed along side Umashi as the thing's words invaded his mind. Had he been a mortal man he surely would have died just like any of the creatures that littered the floor around them. Gritting his teeth he pushed forward past the pain and focused himself on the eye-creature. "Bind the creature!" Umashi gave his orders. While he was not one of his subordinates, he seemed confident enough and perhaps had some insight into what exactly this thing was. Kaen nodded and pressed forward with his offensive plan.

He was no stranger to the art of combat and would prepare to be attacked. It seemed clear this thing meant to do them harm, the proof laid strewn about on the floor. He quickly cast a technique that allowed his body to be partially enveloped in the shadows the surrounded them. Kaen sought to weaken the beast before locking the thing down. With a burst of chakra, Kaen attempted to expose the creature to further attacks. The second thing that came to mind was simple and straight forward, this thing had eyes... lots of them. With a flurry of seals he held up a single hand firmly and locked his gaze with that of the creature. The visage of a ghostly shinigami appeared behind Kaen mirroring the handsign he was forming. It's eyes shined bright as it attempted to lock the creature down with it's visual prowess.

Soundtrack: Astral Doom

A total of ten eyes opened to glare at the human intruders, and a fiendish maw split wide, revealing knife-like teeth long enough to bite through them if the creature got a hold of them. More viscous fluid became effervescent as it dribbled from the cavity, and it was split wide, revealing a fiendish grin. The aberration as old as time did not fear them; the look upon its visage was that of elation if anything— oh my, how the humans had come far since its last encounter with them. The last chance meeting wasn’t nearly as invigorating, and this creature only left one of them standing upright, petrified like a trophy in a stance depicting fleeing with fear. As Umashi and Kaen rushed in like the brave shinobi they were, they pass by the figure, and it would shatter as the creature— the Beholder— sent a quake through its lair, shifting the place to suit its needs.

The Beholder’s ambient chakra, which filled the chamber, erupted with the black ooze ripping into the terrain, causing jagged boulders to emerge, creating natural blockades at the start of terraforming shifting as fast as the blink of the Beholder’s glaring central eye. This difficult terrain would prevent the shinobi from reaching melee range. The air filled with the remains of former enemies, broken into pieces and launched as chunks of petrified flesh, and a collection of bones compiled for centuries, tossed by the rippling earth.

It was merely the intrigue that kept the Beholder from destroying both humans right away; that large central eye was focused upon them as the fiendish creature continued to ascend higher towards the top of the chamber. As the room transformed, the ceiling was rising, creating more room for the Beholder to spread its power and gain mobility. It arose until a small hole was created to the surface, and a spot of light began to shine through. But, focused on its pitiful interlopers, the Beholder stared onto more than their faces, it looked into their souls. One could live and bask in its might, while the other was no different from previous statues scattered upon the floor, and could join them to rot.

Of the two humans, only one reeked of the scent of the Beholder’s black toxin; previously victim to its controlling spell. Of the nine tendrils, one whips backwards before slinging forward, and targets Kaen with a menacing glow, aiming to forcefully reactivate the menacing spell which threw his perception of reality into the dream where Kaen became a jailer named Nick; however, the purple light merely found a pair of red eyes staring back as the ancient Homura managed to negate the return of the Beholder’s charming spell. The ancient’s reaper’s gaze shot back at the Beholder in an attempt to fill it with a sense of fear, yet the Beholder was not affected, merely intrigued further. With its strength of telepathy, it was searching their minds, gaining a rare opportunity to learn more about these modern men.

With it’s first attempt to control the tainted one, Kaen, hindered by the ancient looming within him, and the second human, Umashi, still attempting to reaching him through the forest of stone, the Beholder sent a second eye forth with a different eye glaring. While the ancient may have prevented the Beholder from bringing the illusionary Nick forth again, he’d face a different struggle as the Beholder hit him with a second blast of illusionary force, commanding the ancient to return to its cage, and Kaen to crash into a deep slumber. It was as if he were back in the woods where this adventure began, basking in the sunlight.

With Kaen taken down once again, only the Hokage was left to face the eyes of the Beholder. Another eyestalk swung forth, and gathered a force of necrotic energy meant to turn the hero of the Leaf into a rotting corpse. The eye concentrated its swelling chakra into a beam of black energy which shot in a sweeping line aimed for Umashi. The beam shot astray, swinging wide in a failed attempt mostly caused by thousands of years spent out of practice with the projectile. With a look of pure hate in its central eye, the Beholder would ensure that its ray of death would not miss its mark again!

It would have been a bit of an understatement to think that Umashi saw that coming. Things happened so fast, with such a ferocity that Umashi found himself needing to rely less on his medical training and more on his need to survive. Seeing that his techniques were doing nothing to stop the creature, Umashi for a split second wondered if this was all just a test by the strange Slug creature before he quickly opted to go on a more offensive route. Seeing that his flame chucking friend had fallen asleep, Umashi quickly made a few hand seals and then began to harness more medical chakra. Quickly making the plan in his head, he began to execute it as he soon figured out the perfect way to cut through the opponents defenses. Much like their other friend, it seemed that this thing wasn't much for physical words but if he hit the thing hard enough then he was sure that he'd soon have the creature talking in non gibberish. Wasted attacks and wasted jutsu, finally finished with the hand seals, Umashi aimed one hand towards Kaen and the other toward the creature. "Yo spaghetti face, chew on this!" A glowing green aura blazed around Umashi as he winked at the creature and fired away.

Despite the obvious capabilities of the daunting duo, Umashi and Kaen, this unnatural beast seemed impervious their techniques. What powers could such a being possess that allowed him to remain unscathed by the likes of two powerful shinobi? As if the creature could read minds and memories, it pinpointed Kaen's weakness in his strategy and utilized some sort of genjutsu beam and sent the fiery demon back into seclusion and Kaen into a deep slumber. Kaen's body slumped to the floor in a heap of ninja mess. How pitiful...

So, the light of the counterattack from Umashi really set the Beholder off-balance, giving it something to think about as several of its eyes, and a portion of its spherical head was wiped away from existence. The thing made its first sound, a guttural howl from the immense pain— a chin-check worthy of a god. Some of the black fluid lined the wall behind it in the shape of what used to be the side of the Beholder. The levitating creature was left partially dazed and bleeding black from its humongous central eye. The look in that eye could be put simply: fugg it, you win.

Eons of time spent in this cave suddenly seemed so unnecessary to the Beholder, and one of its eye-stalks focused on the glimmer of light shining down from the surface above. With a sudden burst of energy, the Beholder widened the hole and ignored the rain of debris as it quickly fled from the cave. Sure, the beholder was strong, in fact, it was an opponent of legendary degree, but this was not the contest it was looking for. It simply chose to find a new cave, and the humans could have the day and rejoice. It’s straight up cutting ties dawg.

The giant orb-like monster hissed as daylight shined upon it. The shinobi were left behind but now the creature had to deal with the blinding light of the surface. And a huge orb is hard to not notice… On came Odar the Giant, darting through the woods and stuff. He was mad yo, really mad, and raging. But with so many eyes, the Beholder saw him coming and fired another blast of its mighty central eye, and nearly sliced the giant in half at the sternum. The stupid giant was stricken down and fell limp, about thirty feet into the cave where the beholder left Umashi and Kaen. The crash of the mangled, smoldering giant would have suddenly reawoken Kaen, who was also feeling the effects of Umashi’s healing jutsu. And it was the genuine Kaen, not Nick. The illusion was gone for good, luckily.

“What in the world was that?” came a familiar mental message. The image of Kouta the Old Slug eclipsed the bright light of the surface. “It looks like something put a good lick on it; whatever it was.” The Old slug then made a rapid ascension into the cave, using a thick stream of light green slim to repel himself down near Umashi, Kaen, and poor Odar. “Oh no, Odar” lamented the slug. Kouta slithered closer to the slain giant, who was clearly lifeless already and smoked beyond repair. “It appears that I have been wrong about your kind, Shinobi” the slug explained. “I made a huge mistake in not trusting your kind sooner— perhaps if I had, you could have gotten to the root of the illusions earlier, and this travesty could have been prevented. I feel like a fool, and Odar paid the ultimate price for it.” If he had tear ducts Kouta would have been balling a sea of tears for the slain giant.

“I’m afraid that by the time we get back out of this cave, the creature will be long gone. But nonetheless, I owe you two-leggers a great debt for helping to uproot it.” Feeling responsible for the incident, Kouta had to find a long-term solution to this. He knew of only one— to partner these shinobi with his betters, so that they could continue their work across the land with more worthy slug kin. “Would you both do me the honor of accepting a place within the long tradition of the Slug Pact? Signing the pact will allow you to call upon the aid of my kin to prevent travesties of this kind from ever happening again… I am certain that you both have the empathy to aid any and all who so need it. I am honored to have met you today.”
Congratulations, you both have been offered the
Slug Contract

Yes, I accept!

"Agh tch tch tch..." Kaen was suddenly stirred awake by the monumental crash of a titan. He slowly sat up and rubbed his neck. His body was stiff and sore, no wonder given the ordeal his body and mind was put through. "Man.. that smarts... oh, never mind." Umashi's waves of saving grace were doing wonders for Kaen. "Genjutsu is sure a pain in the ass, Umashi. But I'm sure you knew that. Sorry I was pretty helpless back there, I was trapped in some strange mind genjutsu and was helpless to observe the outside world." Kaen stood to his feet and stretched his arms a bit, listening to the slug transmit its voice in their heads.

The creature had fled, no thanks to Kaen that was... Odar was dead, such a shame. And Kouta attempted to apologize for its rash decision about shinobi. While it was true that many were heartless, unloving humans, Umashi and himself were an exception to that list. Even though Kaen had been under a spell and some other entity had taken over only to preserve Kaen's life, Kaen himself would have been more than willing to have helped out in this cause if he had not been put in that genjutsu.

May Odar rest in peace. I fear that had he not been afflicted by this same curse and stumbled along our path, we might have found a way to free myself and the unknown amount of others in this forest. I would be honored to form a pact with your kind, Kouta. Just tell me where to sign! After Kaen and Umashi had finished signing the contract, he would turn to his leafy compatriot. "I believe I owe you most of all, Umashi. I know what you saw here might not have been the best display of shinobi might, But I assure you I am of able capability. I feel a life debt is to be owed here, Should there ever come a time where you require aid or a friendly ear. Call on me, Shinku Kaen of Sunagakure, and I will be there if it is within my power to do so..." Kaen would give a respectful bow to Kouta and Umashi before heading out, making sure to stay clear of the stream. Water would be best found in town this day...

Climbing out of the rubble of the incident was easy. Having to look at Odar lying dead on the ground was not. Although he wasn’t one to get overly emotional, Umashi certainly couldn’t deny that he was touched at the large giants big heart in even assisting them. Of course it was mostly thanks to a genjutsu trick, but at the end of the day, the giant was an honest soul who was only caught at the wrong place at the right time to get caught up in all of this mess. Though Kouta was speaking about owing favors and being accepted into the Slug Pact, Umashi could only stare on at Odar as he moved without thinking and went to the side of the giant.

“Yeah, I accept, but let me do this one thing right quick . . .” Letting a wash of healing light overtake him, Umashi let the adrenaline running through his veins heighten the medical chakra that he was applying to Odar. Able to see the visible ebb and flow of his own chakra taking hold over Odar, Umashi gave one final push as he gave it everything that he had left. The act of attempting to bring Odar effectively cut off the Divinity form that he was maintaining and suddenly he found himself a little more human for the moment. Though there were no tears in his eyes, his face told the entire story of his disappointment and as he rose to his feet and nodded in Kaen’s direction though not taking his eye’s off of Odar. “Aye, that I will. Look up Umashi when you get a chance to head to Konoha.” Like a good doctor, Umashi would stay put while he waited on his patient.

OOC: Using Combat medic to heal Odar back from death cause . . . I’m cool like that >_>
