Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

It had become a normal occurrence of pushing some of the more odd jobs that were even too menial for a Genin onto the good students of the Academy. A particular student, Uchiha Ryo, had gotten good recommendations from most of his teachers when they were assigning him to a mission of a bit more importance. At the end of the day, it was still a task for a young academy student, so the difficulty could only be so much.

The weather was great this morning, the fresh crispness of the air made you just want to be outside. The warmth kissed your skin, whilst a light breeze kept you cool. The leaves had begun to turn into an artwork of reds, yellows, and browns. It was the definition of jacket weather. While in the hallways a Chuunin in his late twenties approached Ryo from behind, waving down the young Uchiha with a yelp to get his attention. In his hand he was carrying a bouquet of flowers. He looked down to the boy and shook his head, "Don't worry these aren't for you. But there is something you can do to help me." The Chuunin was wearing his iconic flak jacket over a black long sleeved shirt with the Uzamaki swirl on the arm. His headband kept tufts of black hair from his face and his eyes were brown and bright, he was one of the newer teachers so he was still getting to know everyone but Ryo had taken a class about Genjutsu with him at one point and always had good marks so he was the first to come to mind when he needed someone to help.

"Most of the teachers chipped in to get the Hokage a small bouquet of flowers and some chocolates. Her husband, the last Hokage, vanished suddenly and none of us are sure why. There was plenty of congratulations, as all ascensions to Hokage warrant. But a few of us here realized that she might want a few words of condolences, we all need to be strong with the sudden loss of our Hokage, but it doesn't mean we've got to face it alone." He said with a sigh, it was worrisome to lose a Hokage, especially one as powerful as Umashi. Even the loss of a Jonin at his level could be critical to the security of the village, but the actual leader? It could open up the village to threats from outside and within. Losing your leader like that certainty had a negative effect on stability. "We got her some chocolates as well." he said handing both the flowers and a small box of chocolates with a bow and note tied to it."

The box was small and white, the red bow kept it sealed and tucked under was a little letter, if read:
"Dear Lady Hokage,

This letter is a gesture from all of us at the Academy, we wish to not only congratulate you for your recent ascension to Hokage, but to offer our condolences as the disappearance of your husband. We understand that you are busy and being Hokage is a stressful job, but we want you to know that everyone here from the Headmaster to the student bringing this very message is rooting for you.

With love, The Academy.

"Try not to fiddle with the letter before you give it to her." he said going to pat the Uchiha on the head before looking past him, to two students holding hands. "Hey! None of that in the hallway!" he shouted before looking back to Ryo. "So yeah, just bring it to her office, i'm sure you'll love it!" he said as he scrambled off to more than yell at the two students showing a public display of affection in his hallway.

Ryo yawned, this wasn’t mission befitting a shinobi, he frowned a bit but the mission was entrusted to him by a teacher that had showed him much and he could not let him down. As Ryo slowly walked down hallway, he saw all the decorations on all the wall of the season, he could see pumpkin paper cut outs on the boards that the younger academy students had made, he could see pictures of some younger kids wearing costumes alongside the cut outs. Ryo smiled this was one of his favorite times of the year along with winter. As he continued to walk down the hallway he saw the room of Tsukasa-sensei, he felt his body slow down as if he was poisoned all over again, as this happened he relieved the dread of being poisoned by his own teacher. He shaked his head as if this removed the dread that had come over him and continued to walk at a regular pace. “I wonder what great missions Yaboi is doing… he’s having fun catching cats or something amazing.”

Ryo sighed, “Well at least I get to meet the Hokage.” Ryo smirked “Maybe she’ll make me a Genin for this tremendous task I am performing for her. Maybe then I’ll get real exciting missions like fighting a boar or something.” Ryo continued down the hall and made a right turning to take the stairs as he headed downstairs and reached the final steps that lead outside he could see the light shining through the windows “Maybe if I go really fast I can get this finished and go find Yaboi.”

Ryo walked down towards the front doors he pushed them open, and yawned a bit, he was a little bit too tired, he hadn’t had that much rest since he finished his last mission with the old fisherman, Ryo smiled at the time he spent with that old man he was a cranky one at first but atleast he turned out to be alright, feeling the exhaustion still, “Nah, I think I’ll take it easy.” he put his left hand in his pocket and held the basket with his right hand. He walked out towards the exit of the academy grounds, from here Ryo could see the training field, “God I wish I was training instead of being a flower boy.”

He looked up at the sky the sun was still up. “I wonder what Kingu was doing.” He smirked, His rowdy dog Kingu probably causing mischief in his house either causing a mess getting his mom mad or sleeping on Ryo’s father’s lap while he sat on the couch, or maybe even he’s out having fun chasing around the dogs smaller than him in an attempt to prove he was the alpha dog. Ryo sighed once again, “I better get this mission done.” He made a turn at the end of the academy exit and headed off. “I hope nothing ridiculous happens like when I had to walk dogs.”

While this particular adventure wasn't going to be filled with great acts of heroism or requiring the boy to place himself in some life or death situation. Perhaps with age and maturity he will come to appreciate the effect such a nice gesture can have on someone. With the sudden disappearance of Umashi, Yomi, the current Hokage, was bound to be hurting. Even small gifts like this can make a world of difference to those who are suffering. It could take ages before Ryo would actually realize just the weight his actions held but he was entrusted with a great opportunity to not only help the village, but to improve his own standing in it.

As he made his way outside, past the training fields, he finally found himself on the main road. It was quite busy that day, most people were out and about doing their chores for the day. The weather was so nice, that lots of people were just sitting outside enjoying the nice breeze. A few men playing Go on the side of the road, a few shops trying to peddle goods. Groups of women shopping, despite losing the Hokage, life had to go on. The village could not function if they were always paralyzed by sorrow. Hopefully the wonderful atmosphere would cheer Ryo up.

As he walked past a particular shop a group of older couples sitting at a table started to hoot and holler as he walked past, "You got a little girlfriend, do ya'?" they laughed, poking wholesome fun at Ryo. Another one shouted, "She must be a looker, eh? Buying her chocolates too." Presumably, one of the men's wife slapped his hand gently and with a hard '"Tsk. Don't make the boy any more nervous than he might be, you nearly pissed yourself when you first gave me flowers." she said taking the heat off Ryo. The whole bar roared in laughter as the man's face turned pink and laughed awkwardly. The old woman who saved Ryo from all the well intended teasing.

Despite this one of the men started to cheer on Ryo, not knowing his name but in his semi-drunken state he cheered either way! "Let's go! You can do it!" he said offering a few claps of his hands which the whole bar began to do. Even a few people in the street started to take notice, a duo of ladies in their early twenties, one blonde the other brunette, were walking down the street and the blonde whispered to the other, "Huh, he's pretty cute. Lucky girl." the brunette blushed and nodded. "Very lucky girl." Whether they were right or not, everyone in the village had Ryo's back.

Ryo looked on at the bar as the patrons were clapping and for him and smiled slightly, this wasn’t the type of adventure Ryo was looking for but it was a small mission that he had to do for someone who had lost someone close to them, Ryo nodded filled with pride and turned away from the bar and almost as soon as he started to walk down the street, every step Ryo took was one with pride and duty. He took large slow footsteps, smiling he slammed his feet as if he was triumphant, like he had accomplished something amazing. Ryo then thought to why he was tasked with delivering these flowers. Then he had remember what he was told while he was being given this assignment, the current Hokage had lost her husband the previous Hokage. He was dead or gone.

No one knew the real details on what had happened with he had disappeared. Ryo looked down at the flower basket and the box of chocolates that had been handed to him. He rose them up closer instead of hold them lazily he started to hold on them tightly as if to keep anything from happening to them. As Ryo walked down the street in Maple town he saw he could see the Hokage Rock from where he was stood, admiring them for a minute he thought about his future. Ryo had never thought about but had no desire to be Hokage that was too much out in the spotlight for him. Ryo then started thinking about the now and the student tournament coming up. He knew of that many strong students were signing up to fight and prove themselves. And Ryo was no different he wanted to fight all those that had signed up then maybe one day he could become as strong as a hokage.

As Ryo continued to make his way down Maple town he could hear people make friendly jests to Ryo about him carrying the chocolates and basket of flowers, He simply smiled at them and continued along his way. He turned his head and saw the alleyway where his dog Kingu had ran off to for his mission. But only paid a seconds thought to it before continued to walk down Maple town’s streets. Ryo wondered how long until the maple festival started up again, his parents would always take to eat the always delicious dishes that they would prepare for everyone. He smiled hoping it wasn’t too far from now, he hoped that maybe it would start soon, it was autumn after all. Looking up at the sky he could see the sun going down he rose his the hand he held the basket with to mouth to cover his yawning, despite the encourage he had received it did not change the fact that Ryo was still tired. He imagined seeing himself in bed with Kingu at the foot of his bed, and smiled at this pleasant thought. Ryo continued onward.

It didn't take Ryo a long time before he passed most of the patrons of the bar, keeping his head up with pride. Despite being the target of lots of teasing he stayed proud, quite a common trait in the Uchiha. It wasn't long before he made it to the Hokage's Mansion. It was one of the tallest buildings and the closest to the Hokage faces. Quite a symbolism as the Hokage should always be under the close guidance of his, or in this case, her predecessors. Work hadn't yet begun on carving her face into the great stone. But within a few weeks construction should begin, a new face to be assembled to always look over the village and remind them of their sacrifices to provide to the village.

While there were many benefits that came with being Hokage, the stress it put on you was immeasurable. It was doubtful Ryo could fully understand the weight of the Will of Fire, but it was supposed to shine brightest in the Hokage. However like all flames it could burn those it was meant to comfort. When the whole village is your responsibility, all of those burns can begin to add up. Every ninja lost due to battle, age, or sickness was like a weight on the whole village's chest. But especially on the Hokage's. They knew every shinobi by face, whether they met them or not. They knew their abilities and what they were capable of, as to most carefully provide them with work that was best suited to their abilities.

When he arrived at the staircase leading up to the mansion, two body guards dressed in gray were standing by the staircase, arms crossed. The two men were matching height, one had red hair that was tied back in a pony tail. He had a bored expression and seemed like he would fall asleep any moment. The other was an older man, not yet too old to be a ninja but the years were getting to him. Grays started to poke out through his otherwise black hair, bags formed on his cheeks and a thick wrinkle struck across his forehead. As Ryo approached, the older man gave a quick jab to the younger red-head who quickly looked around. "Sorry- I wasn't sleep--" his attention turned to Ryo before stepping into the street. Legs extended and arms crossed. "We're upping security because of Lord Umashi's disappearance. What's your reasoning for coming to the mansion?" The older man nodded happily as he did not stray from his post, waiting for the young Uchiha's response.

Ryo remembered what his parents had told him of the Will of fire and that it they told him of it’s importance. He resonated with its ideals to protect one’s village and treat its inhabitants as they were his own family he enjoyed that part the most. When he was younger he always thought his parents spoke of the Uchiha’s affinity with fire, but as he grew older and he started to understand more and more, he started to understand the meaning behind his parent’s words. Ryo can remember when he was far younger his parents took him to the will of fire shrine and to pay their respects to the shinobi that fell in the brutal civil war that they lived through.

Ryo made his way to the two men who looked asleep “The academy teachers put their money together to buy these flowers and chocolates for the Hokage.” he lift the both the box of chocolates and the basket of flowers to present them to both of the guards. The men appeared to be exhausted and as if they had just woken up, Ryo grit his teeth at the thought of this. How can the Hokage have such lazy men protecting her surely there was more to this “upped security” than what Ryo saw. “All I saw was two sleeping old men.” Ryo said it loudly as if to expose the two men to everyone in the room. Ryo shaked his head in disappointment by what he saw from two men who were suppose to guard the most important woman in the village. He grew even more furious when the younger red-head made such an obvious lie. Ryo scrunched his face in anger, but he held himself back from speaking anymore disrespect, he just simply glared at the man.

“Yes, I was assigned to bring these chocolates and flowers for the Hokage. Do you think I can leave them inside?” Ryo looked at the mansion, he remembered that it was just repaired after there was an explosion there. He hadn’t seen how looked about to see if anyone missed any debris from the old mansion, but it looked like the cleaners had done their jobs right. The mansion was also well built, even from outside Ryo could see its grandeur, he looked past the two men and wondered how it looked inside. He imagine very clean floors is what came to his mind at first, maybe some exotic plants. Then Ryo thought of the Hokage’s office, it must’ve been luxurious. Something befitting a Hokage, he looked at the windows maybe she could see the entire village from her office. The thought turned sour when he once again looked at the two lazy guards. He thought about how she choose the guards she had assigned to her or maybe these men just put up the appearance of being lazy so they could have the jump on any intruders, Who knows. Ryo stated his purpose for his visit and waited for a response from the guard.

The two men chuckled as they were fairly called out by Ryo. "Yeah, yea you're right." they said looking over the chocolates for a few moments before waving him in. "Hope she likes them, you're good to go kid." the said getting out of his way and waving him in the direction towards the stairs. There were quite a few of them between the top of the mansion and the base of the stairs. It would take Ryo quite a bit of time to get up even if he sprinted.

Presumably he would get to the top with little issue, considering the area was well guarded and it wasn't like the Hokage would trap her own staircase, or would she? But today she did not. By the time he got to the top he was sweaty and tired but the air conditioning of the mansion would be a great relief. The hallway was very antique looking, there were scrolls and tapestry hanging from the walls. As he walked past down the hall there were quite a few offices with people working tirelessly on whatever adults worked with. Ryo got a few odd looks and smiles from many of the administrators of the village. Lots of the day to day work was handled here with the Hokage close by, in case they needed executive action of some sort.

Ryo walked down the hall towards the Hokage's office he looked at the walls in amazement, all the assumptions he made while he was outside were right. Looked at the scrolls and tapestry on the walls they looked to have a history about them, A history Ryo would one day like to learn. He could feel the air conditioning better than the ones at his house. He continued on his way to the hokage’s office he took little quick peeks into the room some of the rooms which had left their doors opened, he wondered what many of the administrators did for the village. They appeared tired that was for sure maybe they were still working to deal with everything after the last Hokage Lord Umashi, disappeared.

Not the sort of work I’m into he thought to himself, Ryo was the type of person to go out and do physical missions, looking out of a window he could still see the sun still out. There was still time to give his dog a walk and go train his jutsu. But right now he was in no hurry, he had never been inside of the Hokage’s mansion so he took his time to on his walk towards the Hokage’s office. Taking two to three minutes to look at the tapestries and admired them, he looked on with intrigue. Looking down at the box of chocolates, Ryo turned to his slow pace to a fast walk to keep the chocolates from melting.

It didn't take him long to find the Hokage's office, it was the most grand and intricate. Door in the whole building, unfortunately for Ryo just as he walked by a small assistant walked by and frowned, "I'm sorry Lady Hokage isn't in right now. But if you want to leave the gift here I can give it to her when she returns." The lady was wearing a dark black robe, and her hair was white and went down to her shoulders. She frowned and apologized. "I'm sorry you had to go come all this way for her to not be here, but she went out for the day and we've got no idea when she will return. I am sure she will love them though!" she said going to take the flowers and smell them, "I'll make sure they get to her right away. What is your name, i'd like to tell her the name of the delivery boy who brought them." She said placing the flowers under her arm as she awaited his response.

Ryo sighed, he thought he was going to meet the new hokage, this would’ve been his first time meeting her. He frowned with disappointment at the lady, standing in front of the door. Maybe the Hokage was inside and didn’t want any visitors, but that’s no reason to lie, he thought. “My name is Uchiha Ryo, ma’am.” as he said this he tiptoed to the side to peek past the lady and see inside the hokage’s office. All Ryo could see is stacks upon stacks of what appeared to be paperwork.

A Hokage’s job must be very tiresome and filled with a lot of work. The most important person in the village does have to make sure everything is up and running. She probably got bombarded with work after lord Umashi disappeared, he looked at the chocolates and the basket of flowers in his hands, and handed them over to the lady, He placed his hands into his pockets after they were in the hands of the lady, “Thank you, miss.” Ryo said respectfully to the lady. He gave a smile and turned to head back down the hall he came from. Despite being disappointed that he could not see the hokage he was happy he was entrusted this task by his one of his favored teachers.

As he walked down the hall he paid no attention to the scrolls and tapestries on the wall only what to do next. Will he train, take his dog out for a walk, or go hang out with Yaboi. Ryo had an opportunity for leisure, but remembering that the student tournament was just around the corner Ryo had resolved to go train because there were many strong opponents in the academy. When he finally reached the doors leading into the Mansion he took a quick look around and headed off.

The lady sighed, frowning as she understood the Hokage was too busy but she had nowhere idea where she might actually be. Borrowing a small collapsable table from one of the nearby offices, she placed it near her office door with the flowers and chocolates. Hopefully she would return soon. The lady then realized she had some paper work she still needed to finish and headed back to her office, leaving the flowers for Yomi whenever she would return.

Mission Complete!
