Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Tokugase Fuurika - Lead Engineer, Bishamonten Project
[/col]
NPCs: Hideyoshi Raijuta & Tokugase Fuurika
Sparks flew within the hanger space that belonged to the group behind the Bishamonten Project as Raijuta looked on over his lead engineer's project that she was actively working on. Sparing glances to various monitors around the room from time to time to check the readings being fed back to their machines, the expression on his face was pensive. The destruction of APU-00 at the hands of Katsuo had taught them a great deal. Much more than they expected it would. The conclusion that APU-00's chassis design was insufficient and cumbersome was valuable but the true fruit borne from the experiment had been data on Katsuo himself. Raijuta had declined to inform the young Sunahoshi that they'd been testing him as well if only because he hadn't been sure how Katsuo would react to being a guinea pig to their efforts.

With the information taken from both the combat readings of APU-00 and Katsuo himself they'd made considerable strides in their efforts in the last few weeks. Raijuta had little patience for Fuurika's quirks and ticks but he could not argue with the results. She was every bit the genius that her file had indicated that she was. She'd taken the information that they'd collected, combined it with the study they'd already done and gone into seclusion for a few days. At first Raijuta had been concerned that she was having some sort of mental breakdown over the destruction of her creation but when she'd called him up from her apartment and shown him the advances she'd made it became clear that what she was obsessed with wasn't the destruction of APU-00 but rather overcoming it. Katsuo presented an obstacle to her work. A challenge. And she intended to defeat him in the only way that she knew how-- iteration on her craft.

Raijuta for his part was not an engineer. He was one of the foremost authorities on the way a human being's chakra network and neutral network interacted and functioned in the Wind Country but he had no talent or understanding where machines were concerned. The work they were doing together blended the two sciences in a way that many would likely condemn them as insane at best. Monsters at worst. That meant they needed to be careful who they involved and to what degree. But the other major reason for the Bishamonten Project's major success thus far was Raijuta's connections and ability to plan ahead. He was already planning the next phase for their work and to that end had extended an invitation for another high-profile shinobi of the Sunagakure military to join them in the Bishamonten hanger -- one of the two ANBU Sennin named Roku.

The mission reports stated that the sennin had lost a limb-- more specifically an arm --during the battle with the colossal reanimated corpse of Barnyx and that presented a unique opportunity for the Bishamonten Project. He'd put in a mission request to borrow some of the Sennin's time in much the same way that they had done with Katsuo and now were merely awaited the appointed time, which was rapidly approaching, for Roku to arrive at the hanger.

Episode 1: 'In Need of a Hand'| One Handed Mission Arc said:
[col]A sigh would escape from his lips as he made his way towards the hanger. He wasn't necessarily, nor had he been since losing it, that sad over his missing hand. There was a time his body was a bit more adaptable that he could have manifested his own new appendage without much of an issue. Since unlocking his new found glowing abilities, however, it seemed that he had lost that sort of pliable nature to his flesh. Even with all of that, he wasn't upset over the fact his hand was gone. This recent sigh and slow march towards the location of the ones who were talked up as being able to assist him was more because he had become resigned to the fact that any and prosthetics would be nothing more than one and done bandages. His glow increased his body's physical limits making him a living weapon which always seemed to be more than his previous 'hands' could... handle.

Approaching the door there would be some security checks that Roku seemed to walk through without much notice. His body was going through the motions. While he was also a Journeyman, he had not been impressed with some of the other work utilized in making replacement hands, so this would serve as his last effort to find a permanent attachment. At the best, he was willing to take something that could withstand an entire fight before busting up, which was not something that could be said about previous models. It made him slightly nervous that he wasn't incredibly aware of the two whom he had been directed to meet, but unlike ANBU he really had not fully immersed himself into the Journeyman roster.

Approaching the area he would notice a figure, an older male with glasses, off in the distance. A smile would pop onto his face as he would at first wave with his missing hand, sending his sleeve down to expose the damage that was done. The hand was missing along with some of his arm just past the wrist. Aside from some scarring, the would would look completely healed. Noticing what he would doing, he would mouth "oops" and wave with his actual hand.

"Hello, Roku here! Am I in the right place?"

Hideyoshi Raijuta - Director, Bishamonten Project
|
yBmcPh.png

Tokugase Fuurika - Lead Engineer, Bishamonten Project
[/col]
NPCs: Hideyoshi Raijuta & Tokugase Fuurika
As was her way when she was absorbed in a project, Fuurika paid the arrival of Roku no mind but Raijuta quickly noticed and made his way over to where the ANBU Sennin was standing. Much of the project was still mostly a secret and it was somewhat of a risk inviting a member of the village's espionage group into their hanger but much of what they intended was still hypothetical. His files had indicated that Roku was also a member of the Journeymen but Raijuta had not gone out of his way to associate with many other members of the order since joining. He'd selected his team, recruited them into his project and then they'd promptly shut themselves behind closed doors and rarely, if ever, spoke of what went on within them to outside groups or interests. The order itself did not seem to be interested in asking what all of the funding they were soaking up was for and Raijuta had no intention of coughing up an explanation until they had a finished product to use in convincing others to accept their work.

Approaching Roku, Raijuta was careful to extend the proper hand for Roku to shake with as he introduced himself.

"Welcome, Lord Roku. You are absolutely in the right place." He wasn't sure if Roku were the type of man who liked to have his title respected or not so he erred on the side of caution and went with the more polite method of speaking. "I am Hideyoshi Raijuta, director of the Bishamonten Project. Welcome to our workshop."

Raijuta's handshake would be firm but not overpowering and certainly did not have the feel of a man that performed manual labor for a living. He was, after all, primarily an academic. Following the handshake, Raijuta would place his hand on Roku's shoulder and then guide him into the hanger with the other, gesturing for them to walk together towards the work bench where Fuurika was clearly engrossed in... something or other.

"I am certain you are a busy man and so I will not waste your time. As you might have heard, we are an R&D group which specializes in puppet weapon development and study." Raijuta would explain as they walked, diving right into the meat of the reason he'd placed the request for Roku's time. His description of the Bishamonten Project was what it said on their file officially to discourage anyone who might grow suspicious about the type of materials and whatnot they were bringing into their hanger and such a description was true enough in the long run. The bulk of their work was puppet R&D even if the end goal far eclipsed that in scope. "But beyond that I am a specialist in the area of physical treatment and recovery so your file came across my desk and, well. To be up front about it we have an offer we'd like to make you."

The description of his specialty was mostly apt. To be the most precise, it was a specialization in the study and application of work centralizing around the chakra circulatory system and how it related to the nervous system so his work was commonly used in practice with physical therapists who were helping shinobi recover from things like attacks on their chakra systems, near-death poisonings and such like that. It was not entirely true that his specialty lie in physical therapy but it was close enough to be most true.

Episode 2: 'Hangar on There'| One Handed Mission Arc said:
[col]After the handshake, he would receive some small talk from the man. The man was an anomoly for Roku as he did not appear similar to those he was used to rubbing elbows with. Even the Kage came off as someone who had seen and been through hell. This man did not. That wasn't a bad thing though. He did not view those who forgoed the tribulation of being a fulltime shinobi as anything lesser. If anything, it was just a small clue that this man was very much wiser than himself, who openly rushed towards the thrill of death.

Since starting his masked adventures as a detective, he had grown weary of people who started their first interaction with him like Raijuta had. He came off as pleasant and mild manner, which so far always meant that someone was shading out a portion of either their own personality or motives in an attempt to keep people from digging or noticing that they were about to walk into something treacherous. However, this man was a member of his order and had reached out to him for an opportunity so there was no reason to full on doubt his intentions. That said, he still could not dismiss his new way of thinking and get the feeling that there was something being hidden by this man, more so than what one would assume from just seeing that his work is performed in a sealed off hangar with a small team. His mind wasn't on that thread or even saw it as a thread needing to be pulled, so he would listen and follow the man in the glasses.

The speaking of an offer, it definitely caused a tingle in the almost melancholy Sennin. Maybe this would be an interesting endeaor afterall?

"Oh? And what offer might that be, Director Raijuta?"

Anyone willing to go out of their way to all but lock away a project they are working on is someone who feels a strong sense of passion towards it. While they were both part of the Journeyman Order, so no reason for offering up a title to associate with his name as they were all in a mutual shared brotherhood, this moment it felt right. If nothing else, it was an appropriate social device.

He may have lost a hand punching a giant ressurected worm, but he'd be damned if he didn't bring with him some tact from time-to-time.

Hideyoshi Raijuta - Director, Bishamonten Project

Tokugase Fuurika - Lead Engineer, Bishamonten Project
[/col]
NPCs: Hideyoshi Raijuta & Tokugase Fuurika
The Bishamonten hanger was... surprisingly large given the size of the team that was registered to be working within it which was a total of ten or so individual workers along with Fuurika and Raijuta themselves. As Raijuta and Roku walked a plethora of their work was on display in various states of disrepair and disassembly. Broken down, an APU was virtually indistinguishable from a sophisticated puppet design meaning that only someone with the insight provided from knowing what they were up to would truly clue an observer into what they might be looking at. Still, in addition to a few of the more advanced puppet designs that they passed there were also weapons of varying descriptions and designs. Fuurika herself had started as a gunsmith, a rare trade that ran in her family, and as such various models of firearms adorned the walls as well as mechanized blades and saws.

"As you can see, we keep ourselves plenty busy. Our lead engineer is something of a savant in the area of invention and artifice and spends most of her time here working on new designs and theories. She's quite the treasure." Raijuta explained as they arrived near the workbench that Fuurika was working at. "This is Tokugase Fuurika, that same lead engineer."

He motioned to Fuurika who continued to ignore them. After an awkward moment or two, Raijuta laid his hand on her shoulder illiciting an irate grunt as she jerked her head to look up at him with a scowl. Continuing with the silent communication between them, Raijuta nodded his head towards Roku which caused Fuurika to sit up and fully crane her head around to look at Roku for a moment before turning back around, setting her tools down and then standing back up. On her face she wore a complicated apparatus of lenses and goggles which seemed to be modular in nature over the left side of her face leaving the right side exposed. She made no attempt to remove her outlandish headgear as Raijuta introduced her and she approached Roku, the lenses twitching, contracting and expanding in various rhythms. Leaning forward while looking up at him, Fuurika reached forward with outstretched fingers as if expecting Roku to give her something.

"Let me see your stump, bright eyes." To emphasize her words, she gestured with her fingers by curling and uncurling her fingers in a motion that decidedly communicated an impatient sentiment of "gimme".

"You will have to forgive her quirks. Like most geniuses of her caliber, for all of her skills with machines she lacks a proportional amount of tact with other human beings." Raijuta explained, his forehead in his right hand as he shook his head. "What she means to say is that we can offer you an improvement your physical situation."

Episode 3: 'Hand It Over'| One Handed Mission Arc said:
[col]Raijuta continued his brief, not very informative, tour of the hangar as they continued on their way. While he did not truly speak on the specifics of their work, he would not be lying in that they kept themselves busy. The different projects, almost like a graveyard of broken puppets, were strewn about. While it was easy to see they were doing something with puppets, he did not put much more thought into anything past that. They were going to work with his missing hand, so his assumption would be that their expertise in the puppet game would be directly related in some skill in creating artificial limbs. Did not see like something to dig much more past that, though it was odd the amount of puppets and the need to keep them hidden in a hangar. That said, he did not really excel in the art of using puppets so if there was something going on here he would be in such a foreign landscape that he would not immediately pick up on it.

He would then attempt to introduce him to a female that was engrossed in her own work, presumably what Raijuta had just talked her up about. While Raijuta did a fine job of making him feel welcomed, this Fuurika did just a fine job making him feel like a burden. Then she opened her mouth, bluntly asking for his stump and being rather impatient towards someone who had just gotten here. But she did compliment his eyes

Holy crap... is this love?!

She, while incredibly rough around the social edges, had already won a fan in Roku with her odd demeanor. Obliging, he would raise his left arm up and bring the stump of his former glorious hand pointing towards her. His attention would turn back to Raijuta.

"Oh, no worries. With as often as I deal with monsters and the Kazekage, I've gotten used to my social interactions being awkward. Now earlier you mentioned an offer you'd like to make me. I assume what I get out of this mystery offer is a new hand, but I am curious about what I could offer you in return?"

Tokugase Fuurika - Lead Engineer, Bishamonten Project

Fuurika took Roku's hand-less arm as it was offered to her and rolled his sleeve up enough to get a good view at it before setting to work. Even though she wore no apparatus on either of her hands, she traced her fingers over it in various places and where her fingers passed the shadows twisted around into measured spaces and annotations. The process moved quickly, almost too quickly to process for those looking in on it, but such was the way Fuurika's mind worked. Raijuta looked on wordlessly as his golden goose went about her process of measurement and examination. Fuurika was by no means a doctor but it wasn't her job to attach the piece that she would be fabricating for Roku-- only ensure that it would fit properly. After a few minutes of poking and prodding, Fuurika would release Roku's arm with a light, casual shove.

"Okay, done now." Said Fuurika before spinning in her chair and sailing back over to her work desk. "You can go back to heroically getting yourself blown up or whatever it is that pretty ninja boys do these days for fun. Momma's got work to do."

Raijuta laughed openly for the first time since Roku had met him. The laugh was disingenuous as he did not particularly find Fuurika's habit of making advances towards any muscular young man that was brought through the hanger particularly amusing but it would be extremely hard to tell. Of all the things that Raijuta was perhaps one of his most honed skills was creating a sense of false sincerity. A doctor in the shinobi world needed to be in complete control of their emotions for the times when they would be called upon to do things such as comfort a man who was shortly about to die or remain concentrated on a task while under enormous pressure. As a result of those years of practice, Raijuta found that he was an extremely practiced liar and actor.

"That's a very fair question. As you know, we are a research and development group so generally the applied sciences portion of our work is not typically part of our portfolio but lab tests can only reveal so much where data is concerned. By taking one of our enhancements and helping us run a few field tests with it you would be aiding in the development process by giving us practical data that can not be acquired through any other means." Raijuta pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and folded his arms across his chest. "You would be performing a very important service for us by giving us an opportunity to gather important stress testing data. You could save lives by accepting our offer by improving our over all standard of combat ready prosthesis.

Episode 4: 'A Bird in Hand is Worth 2 in the Bush'| One Handed Mission Arc said:
[col]He would laugh along with Raijuta following Fuurika's comment.

"Haven't tried the 'blowing myself up' route yet, but should I... would you be able to piece me together once more?"

He considered to push it further by asking if he could meet her outside of the inevitable moment he lost another chunk of his body, but it didn't seem like the right moment as her attention had already been gathered back to her work. So, once more, he would find his attention on the director of this hangar of mysteries. Raijuta would finally comment what he was hoping to gain from Roku in this exchange; a test dummy.

Well it is just a hand and it would benefit me... and while I appreciate the notion that they can build prosthesis capable of withstanding the chakra exertion of an upper level shinobi, it does strike me as odd that I clearly have seen puppet heads and torso strewn about in this hangar. Caught really call those prosthesis as the person would be dead... so what all are these people up to, and is it a threat.

While his inner thoughts passed, outwardly it would come off as a reflective moment of silence before Roku finally snapped back to reality and turned to the director.

"I feel like I have some questions I would like to explore about you, this facility and the projects being worked on in here..."

This time a brief pause for dramatic suspense, because if nothing else he was still an ass.

"BUT, should your prosthesis work for me as well as you seem to believe it does then I am sure a busy man like myself will get so caught up in his shenanigans and overall gratitude towards you and your team that I would probably misplace those questions. You see, I tend to lose track of things... case in point."

Waving his nub with a smirk. This was not intended to be a veiled threat nor was it to intimidate the director. It was merely to open his suspicious but then let it be openly known that if their item was worth it, then that would be all that mattered to the nosy Sennin.

"So I guess what I am trying to say is that I would be very interested in helping your data retrieval. If the collect data and your work here helps benefit this village in any way, then I would be foolish and unworthy of the title given to me to turn down such an opportunity."

And from a man that bounced between non-nonchalant to joking to ominous words, this would be a rare moment of pure sincerity. If what they were doing helped him, helped the shinobi of Sunan and helped the village overall, he could easily find himself not concerned with the exact details of what was taking place.

Tokugase Fuurika - Lead Engineer, Bishamonten Project
[/col]
NPCs: Hideyoshi Raijuta & Tokugase Fuurika
The friendly facade that Raijuta put on did not falter for a moment in the face of Roku's light jabbing. He could not afford to show a reaction to a statement like that if only because it would reveal that there was indeed something more to explore there. If he became irritated or attempted to quickly change the subject it would become clear that he was against Roku looking at the Bishamonten Project any deeper than what the surface portrayed them as.

"I'm very pleased to hear that you are interested in what we have to offer. Naturally if you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to ask them. We wouldn't want you to feel unsure about any part of the process." Raijuta said, unfolding his arms and leading Roku away from where Fuurika was diving back into her work with the new measurements and information she'd taken from Roku. "We are, after all, playing for the same team.".

Raijuta's last statement was perhaps the most complete truth he'd spoken throughout their entire meeting. Despite all of the secrecy and obfuscation, the Bishamonten Project existed for the betterment of Sunagakure as a military power. It's sole purpose was to create a weapon which could check the power of the Sovereign Academy without risking lives to create super soldiers. Through the power of technology they would forge Sunagakurian men and women into literal war gods and with that power Raijuta would finally have his revenge on the beating heart of the conspiracy which had destroyed his family and taken his wife from him.

"The fabrication process will of course take some time before it can be installed. These sorts of things must be as precise as possible to minimize any risk of malfunction or bodily rejection. It is uncommon but there are some chakra circulatory systems which can not support chakra-based prosthesis. Perhaps while we wait for Fuurika to make the adjustments necessary I could interest you in a drink and a small tour to put your mind at ease?"

There was plenty which could be shown without risking further indictment. Raijuta might have been more cautious around someone with a more technical mind such as the Kazekage but Roku's file had not left Raijuta with the impression that the ANBU Sennin was anything more than a dedicated martial artist. If he had any interest in things such as puppetry or technology, it was not well documented. Possible but unlikely, given Roku's long service records.

Episode 5: 'Could be Handy'| One Handed Mission Arc said:
[col]It seemed that he was in for some waiting until the hand was ready to be connected. In an effort to keep him entertained, potentially an effort to keep him from snooping around or leaving with lingering doubts. Or, and this might be far out there, he was simply trying to be nice. His work as an ANBU, a vigilante and a detective had led him down a path where distrusting face value was not only needed but necessary to survive. It was hard to switch back to his Roku mode when not behind a mask.

"Now that you mention it, what material is being used that could withstand the amount of chakra and force I will be exerting? Unlike some of the other monsters in this village, I like to keep things simple and hit really, really hard. Most of the replacements I've tried don't seem to have the durability that I require."

He was truly interested in that. Punching and reinforcing his fists was one of his biggest fighting methods. So it was only natural to be curious of something that could do just that, and as a fellow Journeyman finding a new material to utilize in his own work.

"I will of course take you up on that drink offer!"

While his service record as Roku would not give any indication of who or what he was outside of a muscle head that got into foolish scraps easily, there would be far more going on with this Sennin. His record as an ANBU ended at "Titan". There were no records of his acts as "Kasha" and there is no written documentation of who the man behind "Tenken" happened to be. Sure, some had figured it out or he had told them, and of course the Kazekage was fully aware of everything. Since the confusion of the Cabal incident, he had made tireless efforts to keep his personal image separate from the work he did in the shadows. So while neither Roku or his alter ego(s) cared ultimately for puppets or technology, it didn't mean he wasn't suspicious of this current operation. If it looked like it was hiding a secret, if it sounds like it is hiding a secret then in his professional opinion it was probably hiding a secret. Now, if he get worked up enough to fully explore it depended on how the remaining interaction went.

"Excellent, follow me please." Raijuta said, indicating that Roku should follow him further into the hanger.

As they walked, numerous projects were on display as engineers went over out-pourings of data on monitors or review schemata on large drawing boards while comparing notes. To say that the Bishamonten Project was extensive might have undersold it-- it was by no means a small project. Raijuta had recruited some of the brightest technological minds in the city of Sunagakure to work on it with the promise that no line of research would be taboo outside of human experimentation. After all, he didn't want to recruit psychopaths like the serial killer Tarou into his group. He'd seen Tarou's work up close before in the past and while the man was clearly brilliant he was also clearly unhinged as the things he created were more monster than man or machine. Mercifully he'd been brought to justice years ago by a shinobi who's name Raijuta had never bothered to learn given that he was not at all interested in the process of criminal investigation behind tracking down the fiend. All that had mattered to Raijuta was the work that he'd done but nothing that had been recovered from Tarou's many laboratories was tenable for what the aims of the Bishamonten Project sought to do. They were in this field to save the lives of men and women, not reap them to create weapons.

If Roku kept his eyes about him he would see a number of practical projects being worked on as well as the theoretical ones. Some of the units larger in scale than the average human being, they appeared as though they were suits of plated steel armor complete with fluted plate masks. The style of armor was... unusual for this part of the world where heavy steel plate armor was disadvantageous for desert fighting given it's weight and temperature potential for the person wearing it but it was not all together unseen.
Sometimes merchant lords would employ specialized mercenaries who wore such types of armor for urban engagements where a man wearing enough steel could become a literal living battering ram but even that tended to be uncommon. All manner of weapons were arrayed in the various working spaces; swords, polearms, projectiles such as kunai and shuriken... and other such weaponry that was harder to place. If Roku had ever had experience with firearms before he would recognize several variations of gunpowder-based weaponry as well as the traditional shinobi armaments as well. To say that firearms were rare in this part of the world was an understatement as the process for creating gunpowder was costly and could be dangerous if the fabricators creating it didn't full understand or respect the material for it's dangerous nature.

The suit which seemed to have the most aides surrounding it was not a thing of particular extravagance or style. Silver in color and with a smooth surface, the project's face was without any telling features save for two large round eye-lenses which were, for the moment, dark. It was more human in form than the other projects which looked more like hulking beasts than men and certainly smaller. This project was about five feet tall as it hung upon the rack that held it up with it's arms out to it's sides and it's legs splayed. None of the aides were actively working on it, rather they seemed to be comparing notes much like others earlier in the hanger but this one was a subject of much debate it seemed though nothing of what was being said could easily be heard over the noise of machine fabrication going on in the hanger.

For his part Raijuta did not stop to observe or look in on any of the on-going projects. Instead, he seemed intent on a set of stairs which led up to a secondary level-- presumably to some kind of office room which looked out over the hanger through large panes of one-way glass that shimmered with the light caused by sparks and electricity all over the hanger.

Episode 6: 'Trying to put a Finger on It'| One Handed Mission Arc said:
[col]He did not provide any details on the arm he had just asked about, but maybe he wanted to provide the drink first before discussing such things. Maybe he did not want to discuss such things. Either way, the biggest disappointment was the lack of a drink in his hand after being offered. Nothing in this life that is good comes that easy... it would seem.

He would follow. The path would take them through moments of silence, or at least as quiet as this place of constant movement and work could be, and moments of intense sound from the work of the technicians. He would see items that ranged from bulky and gaudy to minuscule and dissembled. Hulk like figures that could house people to smaller figures that looked people-like, all of it and everything in between seemed to be going on within this hangar. A lot of moving pieces and a lot of moving people. A lot was going on and not much was known about what was taking place. Either way, it was not suitable to talk in such a location as the thunders clangs and hiss of saws whirled around in the area. Strange weapons, strange black powder, a lot of things he had seen and several things he had seen used in different ways. While the specifics weren't known, even someone without the technical mind of those stored in this hangar could get a sense of what was ultimately happening here. It was even clearer to someone who had experienced the hell of conflict. Weapons were being made. Now that was the simplest deduction ever, so he would not receive any gold stars for that. However, knowing that someone is building a weapon in the context of some of the pieces and projects underway here one might be able to solve all of this. But, he was promised a drink.

Following Raijuta up the stairs, he would take the time to finally break the silence of dialogue between the two of them.

"You know, the Kazekage has interests that fall in line with some of those metallic things out there... surprised he hasn't wormed his way into your hangar."
