Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

[This will be basically Danji's history in more detail to get the Specialities he would have had from 6-7+ years in the medical field]

Anatomy
Denji started his Medic career at nine, but before that, he needed to study the medical field to even pass the test of becoming a MiT, so he needed basic knowledge on Anatomy, and First aid, at least, but Denji wanted to impress them so he'd wanted to find and study everything he could before his first test. He needed his parent's permission to get in though and spend the time studying instead of working in the shop. Though he'd never be able to get it all before his exam, he could try.

"You know being a mednin is more than just playing doctor, Denji." His Mother said to him, she didn't like that his teachers talked him into becoming a mednin. It was something good, but she just didn't want him to be a ninja.

"I know! I know, I can do it." Denji replied it didn't matter if she delayed his progress he'd just wait till he didn't need her permission to do it, it is why his mother gave in and allowed it. After that Denji spent hours, sometimes days at the giant library. There was a lot more on anatomy than he thought there was. Organs, bones, muscles, each one of these had different books to study. Organs alone could fill six thick books with information.

Denji started with the bones, he had a list of recommended books from his soon to be sensei, the list had one book for bones, so he went and searched for it. When he found it, the book was bigger than his little head and heavy. He dragged it to a table and opened it up, the first page had an introduction, explaining that the skeletal system includes all of the bones and joints in the body and that each bone was an organ made of fiber, cells, and minerals. There were five chapters for each set of bones, head and neck, chest and upper back, pelvis and lower back arm and hand, then finally leg and foot. each one of those chapters had their own sections, dividing it up further.

Denji spent a week on this book, reading through and taking notes on each section. He learned about the temporal styloid process, the articular capsule, the interosseous membrane of the arm, and so much more, it'd take all day to list everything. He was physically drained, and this was only the first book! He still had five or six more books, he sighed and looked at his list, he listed what he needed to study next out loud “the Muscular system, Cardiovascular system, Digestive system, Endocrine system, Nervous System, Respiratory system, Immune/ Lymphatic systems, Urinary system - ew, Integumentary system, then Urology, Gynecology, and Andrology.” He looked at the books he could find all these systems in and was surprised, it was about five more books.

Denji went around the library to find the second book he needed. This one had various systems that worked inside the body. After he found it, he began studying it in the library. The first section was on the Muscular system, “Muscles are responsible for movement, and there are 700 named muscles...” Denji looked at his own hand. “That's a lot of muscles.” He then went back to the book.

“Visceral muscle is found inside of organs like the stomach, intestines, and blood vessels, also the weakest of muscles. They help move substances through the organs.” Denji read to himself. He spent a few days on the muscle section before moving onto the Cardiovascular System.

Denji read about the heart, Circulatory Loops, Blood Vessels, Arteries and Arterioles, Capillaries, etc. He finished the chapter with Hemostasis, when blood clots, and forms scabs on cuts and such. Denji spent a few days on this section as well, he wanted to make sure that he memorized everything.

So he moved onto the digestive system. The system everyone at least has basic knowledge on, you eat food and food goes out the other end, this was just a very detailed version of how that works. It did not take that long to get through that section, a few hours at most.

Denji moved on quickly, so he could start on the next section, The Endocrine System. This system was about glands that produce hormones, the brain, reproductive organs, etc. This section was also a short section since there were not many organs that produce hormones. Denji spent a little more time on the inner organs section since he was fascinated by all these organs, they were much more interesting than battle classes.

Nest on the list was the Nervous System, the brain was also apart of this system, along with the spin. Basically the communication system since this system controlled communication throughout all the body parts. Nerves were thin and fragile, any surgeon would be wary of them. Denji shivered at the thought of the possibility of losing all feeling. It was possible in this world. Even mednins fought occasionally, Ninjas had a shorter lifespan than normal people, for obvious reasons.

Denji spent a day on that section, throughout his studies he hadn’t really taken a break since his exam was just around the corner. He almost slept at the library, e didn’t dare take the books home since his older brothers would destroy them. He usually skipped lunch so he could have more time to study. He went to the library as soon as it opened, and left after it closed, ate before he left and when he got home. He was basically a zombie on this schedule.

Denji had only a few more sections before he was done with anatomy, only to move onto the next subject. He’d be studying the Respiratory system, then the Urinary system today. He read about how the respiratory system provided oxygen to the body’s cells, as well as move out carbon dioxide. There are three big parts of the respiratory system, the lungs, obviously, the airways, and the muscles of this system. It didn’t take Danji too long to get through this, so he moved onto the urinary system. kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra were all apart of this system, in a way they were also apart of the digestive system. It was another short section, but by the time he was done with it, he had to go home.

Denji had about four more sections before he was done with Anatomy, so he made sure to be the first on into the library so he could get it done, hopefully within this week. He had so many other things he needed to study. These books only skimmed the surface. Once he was a MiT he’d be going to lectures instead of studying on his own like this, he wasn’t sure if he would like it better alone, or in a class. He’d know once he got there.

Denji read about the Immune system Lymphatic system. Both closely related systems, and combined together since they shared a lot of the same organs. Denji learned the Immune system kept people from getting sick, and helped them recover, while the Lymphatic system helped clean the organs. Denji spent the day reading about these systems.

Integumentary System was next, basically hair, skin, nails. Denji read how the skin is the largest organ, he didn’t even know it was considered an organ, then again what else could it be. He assumed this section would be short and sweet, but it was much longer than he thought it would be. It took him almost all day to get the rest done, so he decided to go home early since he had only one more section before he was done with anatomy.

Finally, Denji was on the last bit, he was fully rested and planned on getting it done today since his exam was only a few weeks away now. He wanted to recap everything and read all of his notes over again before taking the exam. It was important for him to get everything right, he went over the bones, the vascular system, the immune system over and over again. He wanted to blow the test out of the water with his skills. It was harder than it looked, but jam-packing everything in as fast as possible was something he was willing to do.

The Final was the reproductive organs, male and female. He learned how a baby was made from a book. He had a clue since his mom seems to pop out a baby every year, but he didn’t know how complicated it was… and how easy it was to prevent. His parents should probably read about this. Once he was done, Denji made sure he had all the notes he needed and started recapping so he’d better remember all the different systems and organs. He remembered the bone rhyme and the basic organs. Anything he couldn’t recall he went back and read again.

Denji’s parents seemed to warm up to him taking the mednin route, they felt it was safer than any other shinobi path he could have taken. Since mednins were basically the back lines, the support, they were not usually on the front lines. But it was just as dangerous, they didn’t deal with normal civilians after all, at least not all the time, they helped the shinobi and treated their serious wounds. They also had to train their bodies in the same way, and produce ninjutsu. So it was a little more difficult than a normal doctor.

Finally, Denji’s exam day was here, he felt like he was fully prepared, he had made study cards a week before to memorize key phrases, bones, muscle names. Making the cards helped a bit, but there were a lot of cards… His mom scolded him for making so many because they took up a lot of space. They filled a big box, but hey as longs his siblings did not destroy them then he’d always have them for the future. He didn't have time to actually study them since it took him a week to make them. But he picked out a few to study before the test.

Denji was able to learn a few medical ninjutsu while he was studying, he’d almost mastered the art of multitasking. He was confident he would pass the test, and he knew he’d break the curve if there was one. He was told the test would be on basic medical skills, ninjutsu, and anatomy. The Anatomy was the biggest section since they wanted their mednins to know where things were right off the bat.

Denji passed the basic medical skills section, not with flying colors like he hoped but it was good. Same goes for the ninjutsu part, but on the Anatomy section, he got every single question right.

Biology/Chemistry
Denji was now a MiT and his mentor, the person how’d be guiding him for the rest of his medical journey, was kinda a bitch. He didn’t mean to put it so bluntly, but it didn’t feel like she actually cared about being a mednin, or helping people out. SHe had no bedside manners, she went out of her way to insult patients. She also thought he was the smartest, and everyone else were idiots. Denji’s new name, according to her was ‘Idiot number three hundred and fifty” but she shortened it to Idiot. She was smart, no doubt about that, she was like a walking encyclopedia, probably the only reason why she wasn’t booted off of the branch. She was in the research division since she didn’t have the people skills needed to treat patients.

Her first task for Denji was Biology and Chemistry, if he was going to be a researcher, he’d need more than just knowledge about anatomy. So she shoved four books in his arms and told him to study. At the same time, he had to help her out in the lab, mixing chemicals, and making medicine. He knew the basics but it seemed like he was in for one hell of a time since she didn’t seem like she’d accept anything but perfection. At night Denji slaved over the biology books, learning how the mitochondria were the powerhouse of the cell, and organelles, basically organs inside cells. It was a weird concept, organs were made out of cells, and cells had organs too, organ-ception. But those organelles didn’t have more cells in them, just Atoms.

During the day Denji learned about medicine, chemicals, and how different things react to each other. He ran experiments with his mentor, most of the time it was kinda boring. He thought it was going to be explosive fun, not taking notes, and carefully labeling things. Observing was the most boring to him, mostly because most of the experiments were duds. Day one, nothing, Day two, nothing, each and every day. Meanwhile, his sensei kept giving him pop quizzes on both Chemistry and biology. She taught him about chemistry, usually giving hours upon hours of lectures. She showed him some fun experiments and taught him about the periodic table. Each day he learned about a new element from that table, they were different from ninjutsu, with everything he was learning Ninjutsu seemed more like fairy tale magic than anything else. His sensei said that it was, but he’d be learning more deeply on how it works in the future.

Denji studied biology when he wasn’t sleeping, Chemistry was difficult, but Biology was a lot easier for him to learn. He was ahead of schedule on it, since he actually enjoyed it. He liked learning how things worked, and he was getting into the flow of things. Each cell did something different, his favorite cell was the stem cell since those could practically turn into any other kind of cell. It was universal, and if he could learn how to make them without knocking someone up, it would be something that would help people recover from diseases, limb loss, and who knows how many things. But as far as the books know, there was only one way to make them, and that was through pregnancy. It was something he wasn’t going to fiddle with at this young of age.

During his training, Denji’s sensei took him out on an expedition, it wasn't going to be braving the wilds as he thought, they were going mining for certain metals. She wanted to show him some metals for chemistry first hand, and the lab was running low on supplies anyway so she took the chance to go out on teaching him first hand. He would learn about materials of the earth and their own different elements.

They went into the mines to find a few different kinds of metals, iron, copper, and a few others. Denji didn’t know what these had to do with the medical field though, but his sensei told them they were looking into different metals for prosthetics, and few certain surgeries. It was interesting to learn what different metals there were, and how they reacted to other chemicals and the body. SOme metals were toxic to bodies, while others were toxic to the body, it was something he needed to remember to the future.

Down in the mines he saw and learned not just about metal, but different chemicals that were natural in the ground, some flammable, others explosive, and some extremely toxic. Denji’s sensei couldn’t show him all of the elements from the table in the mines since not all the resources could be found here after all. But they did have plenty of mountains to mine out and explore.

After they returned to the lab Denji was assigned to write a report, about everything he learned, all the chemicals, all of the metals, and their effects on the body, and to each other. He was free to look up any information, and do his own experiments, either way, his deadline was two days. So he got to work on that right away.

He reported everything he remembered, and he even looked up some references, but his sensei still only gave him a C-, he wasn’t sure what he missed, but he decided to spend some time studying chemistry since his teacher agreed to let him redo it. Denji wanted to know what he missed, but his teacher was vague, maybe she just was being hard? WHo knew.

Denji rewrote the report, after studying for a week. He made sure to get into the nitty-gritty, and details of the report, and events. He explained the texture of each metal, and each chemical they encountered, he explained their smell, and taste on the ones that would not kill him if he ingested it, he wanted this to pass. He kinda knew that she was just being hard too, so he decided to make this report three times as long than the last one.

After he turned it in, she gave him a B+, better, but her reasoning for not giving a better grade was because it was too long, and she did not want to read the rest of it. At least he got a better grade from just the first few pages if she’d read it all maybe he would have gotten an A+. Who knew.

Denji went back to his preferred subject, Biology. He had read all about the basics, so he was moving onto the advanced Biology, though, at this point, it started branching off into other subjects. But he still had a few chapters to go through and study before he’d look into the different branches. The branch that interested him was genetics, obviously. He also wanted to learn more about bloodlines, and kinjutsu but those were a whole other field.

Denji spent a few weeks studying biology, he went over earlier chapters over again, so h would remember it better. He also decided to do a few experiments or labs they were called in the book. One of the labs was sticking a small piece of banana in vinegar, and observing it. The vinegar made the DNA of the Banana piece unravel after a day or so. He was able to see the strand of DNA was at least six feet long, and each cell had that much in it, it made it hard to believe all of that could be condensed into a cell so small no human could see it with the naked eye.

Denji did a few other plant experiments but he was more interested in creatures and humans. Plants were interesting, but humans and other animals were much more complex. It was more information. Denji’s sensei tested him on his knowledge of biology often during the weeks, written tests, and vocal tests. She wanted to be sure he wasn’t messing around, so almost every day he’d get asked a few biology questions. Science was their way, and he planned on using his knowledge to help others and learn more.

Denji did shock his sensei with how much information he retained, it was easier with biology since it was his cup of tea. It took him weeks to master his knowledge, slaving over books was now apart of his life, who needs friends anyways. He knew once he was done with chemistry and biology he’d be given a new set of books, but since these two were the fundamentals of this field he wanted to go into, he’d always be testing his knowledge on the matter.

By this point Denji knew what he wanted to do in the future, his goal was to be a Bioengineer. Someone who created life, and or modified it. He planned on mastering Kinjutsu, and Bloodlines, then he’d learn how to create and grow organs, and move from there. He felt like this would help people in the future, but he also wanted to know, and have that knowledge… Maybe he just wanted that kind of power, some would probably accuse him of that.

Weeks passed, denji slaved over both chemistry books and Biology books. He learned first hand next to his sensei in the lab, she called it her own lab but it belonged to the village. Only unique individuals got their very own lab, despite her knowledge and skills, her attitude made her stay in a lower position, but she didn't want any more responsibility, at least that's what she told Denji. He learned a lot about her, but he was more focused on learning than her. One of the first things he learned, was not to get attached to people after all. She made it easy, by being a jerk. He was too into his books to worry about anything else since he knew what he wanted, and he was going to achieve his goals no matter what, legally at least. Denji wasn’t willing to go the back route to get to his goal since he did want to help his village after all. Going the back route would moot his beliefs, staying loyal to the village and completing his goal.

Denji had read about many doctors going awale to complete their goals, those were the selfish few, maybe Denji lacked selfishness due to his upbringing, he had to share everything, room, bed, even the bathroom. Clothes, toys, food, nothing was truly his. He knew in order to make the village work he couldn’t have those selfish desires that others had. Although it was contradictory, because he did have those desires, but they were all pushed into the back of his head. He could waste time getting upset whenever he had to share something anyway.

Denji didn’t mind sharing a lab with other people, his sensei started to seep into him though. Their chemistry projects were always moved, or messed with. It wasn’t like he could take them home since his house was full of children. Someone even threw away his plant project, so he was forced to start over. He didn’t want to be selfish, but sometimes it felt good to have your own area where no one could mess with things. He didn’t have his own station yet, and his sensei wouldn’t let him use hers for long. So he was forced to use the ‘public’ stations.

This didn’t stop Denji from learning the basics of Biology and Chemistry and putting his knowledge to the test. His sensei often set up projects for him to do, Denji got into the habit of putting sticky notes on his projects asking people not to touch the projects. That seemed to deter the rate of things getting tossed. Denji knew he’d have to work hard to get more respect around here, he’d get nowhere if he let people just walk all over himself. One day he would have his own lab and his own place. Maybe he’d have his own assistants.

Bloodlines
Denji was growing up, during his time training under his sensei, he didn’t only study the science, and medical side, but he studied bloodlines, abilities, kinjutsu, chakra, and some unique abilities. He probably never truly be done slaving over books and learning, but he was starting to get into going out and learning from others first hand. He was also old enough to set out and research on his own now, which was preferable since his sensei was a handful.

Denji took on studying Bloodlines, he spent months reading about them and getting ahold of any available information. His sensei really didn’t tell him to study bloodlines, as long as it didn’t interfere with his work she didn’t care, he was more of an assistant, well no… more like an intern. He was paid at least, by the village. Not a lot, but enough to get the supplies he needed. He had to keep all of his medical studies in his locker at the hospital since his brothers would destroy them. He wasn’t quite old enough to move out either, but he planned on it as soon as he could, basically when he could afford to rent a place.

Denji started with his own bloodline first, he already knew a lot about the Santaru clan, but he hadn’t really studied them. The power to control storms, and summon lightning. Their bodies were electrified, and stronger Santaru have been seen with the ability to fly, but that was a rare sight. Denji wondered if that was true, he’d later find out if it was or not since sooner or later he’d master his own bloodline.

He moved onto a well-known bloodline, this one wasn’t common around these parts, he studied the Senju bloodline. They had the ability to create forests basically, he knew a lot about them already since they were one of the clans that established this shinobi world, so their bloodline was taught in the academy, in history at least. With a few medical journals, Denji was able to delve deeper into their abilities, strengths, and weakness.

After spending some time studying the Senju bloodline, Denji decided to move to the Uchiha bloodline, another very well known clan bloodline, and the Senju’s arch nemesis. The Uchiha Sharingan was a dojutsu that sent many shinobi to their deaths, with amazing genjutsu abilities, and ability to see details. The Uchiha had more than their eyes, their ability with fire techniques was incomparable. They’re eyesight often suffered from overuse of Sharingan, but nothing that a little medical miracle couldn’t fix. Denji knew this was a bloodline he’d see often in the medical field, but like the Senju, he already knew a lot about it. So he studied the deeper side instead of the history.

Denji looked into the Hyuuga bloodline, their Byakugan was similar to the Sharingan, it was another type of Dojutsu, but it did not give the ability to cast genjutsu, not that the clan couldn’t do it. Their eyesight was amazing, some would say better than the Uchiha. Their dojutsu ability allowed them to basically see behind themselves. No blind spots. Denji knew of this clan, they did mostly Taijutsu, so he’d probably see strains and the basics from taijutsu users. He’d look into the anatomy of their eyes, he knew he’d probably be doing eye exams in the future, so the more he knew about their eyes the better.

Each bloodline had at least a few hours worth of material to read, and Denji took his time learning about them. He felt it was important to him to earn as much as he could about each bloodline, in order to achieve his goal of becoming a Bioengineer.

Yamanaka was an interesting read, he felt like they were something out of a science fiction novel, with their basic mind control abilities. One common thing for them was headaches, at least he understood why and what to do for them when they came in. They had strong minds, and wills.

Denji didn’t take much of a break, he continued to read about the Akimichi, it was very uncommon to see a chubby ninja since they were very active, but the Akimichi were the few. They took advantage of their fat and turned it into energy basically, and their expansion jutsu was probably useful in battle. They could be just as agile as any other shinobi, but the clan was known for bad eating habits that could lead to a lot of health issues. He didn’t know if anyone of this clan lived in the village.

Each bloodline Denji studied. It would take him a few weeks to study them all, and maybe a few more because he had to juggle work and studying at the same time, not to mention at least an hour or two of sleep. He read over the rest of the bloodlines, Seikon, Nara, Kaguya, etc. IF it was written, and in the library, Denji studied about them. Some of the clans he was envious of their abilities, but those feelings were short-lived since he knew who he wanted to be. He hoped this knowledge would help the village in the future since he’d now be able to better treat these people. Each clan and bloodline was unique, each one had to be well taken care of as well.

Chakra System
Since Denji graduation he had been working in the lab alongside his sensei where they did research on various medical subjects. He assisted her, but mostly he had to sit back and take notes. The research they were working on recently was about the chakra system, in the beginning, His sensei just made him study other things, like Biology, and chemistry, he took it upon himself to study the bloodlines. His sensei believed it was time to teach him about the chakra systems, by that she assigned him to sit in at multiple lectures instead of study by himself. The lectures would be a daily thing, first thing in the morning, then he would come into work and his sensei would show him the research first hand.

Denji’s sensei wanted him to start actually contribute to the research, but he’d need to learn what to do, and all about the subject before he could do anything. She wanted him to know chemistry and biology beforehand as well, so she made him study those, then he wanted to study bloodlines, so she allowed that, but now he was back o her schedule. She doubted he could help much, or discover anything new, but an extra pair of writing hands would help out a lot. Plus the lectures didn’t start till later anyways so him studying something else was good.

Denji’s first lecture started the first week of spring, he had to get used to waking up even earlier than before, but at least he could fall asleep soon after his work was done. Denji knew the research was related to Chakra, he knew about chakra, it was what enabled people to use ninjutsu, and perform all sorts of miracles, some referred to it as magic, but chakra ran through their bodies, separate from the cardiovascular system. He wasn’t sure exactly how the body created it.

The first lecture was about the history of chakra, and what it was used for, the guy who was giving the lecture only brushed over on how their bodies created chakra, and how some people are born without chakra. So he sat for an hour in the lecture hall listening to a recap of the history he already knew.

When he got to work his sensei got him started with a brand new workbook and a new pencil. He thought she’d be teaching him about the research but instead, he was told to keep quiet and write everything down. SO he was basically her documenter, he agreed since he really didn’t have a choice in the matter. From the lab, they went into the main hospital building, and into a few patients rooms. These patients were ninja’s who were in coma’s, some of them had been there for years.

By signing up to become a ninja for the cloud village, your body belongs to the village, if you die, your body is donated for research and organs to the hospital, unless the higher-ups say otherwise. Ninja’s who are in a coma are not dissected at least, not until they were deemed dead. Any ninja in a coma for longer than five years might get the plug pulled on them, that was the sad truth. The research team took advantage of their living bodies to observe them and study the chakra system.

Even though they were in a vegetative state, their bodies still worked, the chakra still moved through their bodies. He wrote down everything he saw, and his sensei’s words, with each patient she stated how long they’ve been out and whether anything had changed. Certain patients, she sent a wave of healing chakra into them, and Denji wrote down the details.

They spent the day observing and writing. He thought medical research would be more fun, but it was mostly observing and documenting. Until they got back into the lab, where Denji’s sensei told him they were still observing, they couldn’t make any breakthroughs, but their documents would be put into learning books for future children to read. He understood it wasn’t going to be fun, but at least he had more of a sense of why they were doing it.

The second day, another lecture, this lecture went more into the details of how the body makes chakra, and how they can control it, but it still was very vague. It showed how much knowledge there was actually on the chakra system, but he sat through the lectures anyhow. He took notes on everything so he could better absorb the information. He would rather study by himself since he could get more in faster that way, it was new to him.

Going back to the lab his sensei went through the same procedure as before, check the coma patients for any changes and then study them. Today she had something new in store though, after they checked on the last coma patient, and Denji was done writing, they went down to the morgue. A new body came in and they were allowed to take a look at the insides. They were not permitted to do the autopsy or anything but they could take a look.

Denji’s sensei showed him where the chakra came from, and how it was distributed throughout the body. It was interesting seeing the insides of the human body first hand, they were able to tell what kind of chakra he used the most since each element required different kinds of chakra. Anyone could use any element, but some bodies were able to make that kind of chakra stronger, and more … potent. Learning the chakra system and researching it like this would help the future of the medical community of kumo.

Throughout the days, and months he and his sensei continued to research and experiment with the chakra system. He also continued his lectures, soon enough he was caught up on everything he needed to know to be able to actually start contributing to his sensei’s work. It took a month before the class was over, and he aced his test in the end.

Months passed, and they filled a few journals and sent in plenty of reports. They discover more about the chakra system, more details on how it works, and how different chakra elements affect the bodies. Fire chakra obviously made the body hotter, but they saw signs of internal burn scars from ninja’s who used too much fire chakra. Wind and water had similar scaring, but instead of burn scars, it was cut, literally tearing the insides of the user when they went past their limits. Lightning had scaring much like fire chakra.

They gathered that data from observing surgeries, and autopsies. The more data they gathered the more clear things became. It was the reason why going past the limit did so much damage, the human body could only handle so much. They documented everything and made copies. They sent in their research to the sennin to be reviewed. It wasn’t much, but anything new that could help further their abilities to treat people and grow their knowledge was at least better than nothing.

Denji learned how to do research, he learned about the chakra system, and they made progress thanks to him. He was the one that noticed the burned tissue on the insides, then further investigation lead to that discovery. Most wouldn’t think that was something, but they had been researching this for months now, and only had smaller findings, this was something much bigger than before at least compared to they’re other findings.

General Surgery/Kinjutsu Surgery
It had been a few years since Denji became a MiT, he was old enough to live on his own, with his parents' permission now. With his own place, he could expand his library and get more books. His room was filled with journals, and books about all sorts of medical, and non-medical subjects. His kitchen was his lab, he rarely used it for anything other than experiments. Since he didn’t have his own lab, and he had a problem with using the ‘Community’ lab, he made his own.

Denji was a Mednin now as well, he had been promoted, and now he was the same rank as his sensei. WHich meant she couldn’t drag him around anymore, but he still helped her from time to time. Denji started researching Kinjutsu at home, and during his free time. He was starting to prepare to do surgery on patients. If he was learning about the general surgery he may as well knock out kinjutsu surgery. It was common, but many ninjas wanted more power. It was natural, just like he wanted more knowledge.

Denji studied for hours on end, when he wasn’t working, after his shifts were done. As long as he wasn’t called in, things were good. The more experienced medical staff would probably be called in before the researchers. He knew how to treat people, he was more on the researcher side though. Either way, he was learning how to do surgeries, he knew all about anatomy, so learning how to cut into the body was a step up from that knowledge. He believed this would help him grow towards his goal, and the hospital always needed an extra surgeon.

Denji first learned about kinjutsu, most were forbidden, but it was possible to get them through the hospital. Like the ultimate ability of the Uchiha, The Mangekyo Sharingan, or the Byakugan. If they had them in stock that is. There were also cases of people getting multiple bloodlines. There were not that many he could do, legally.

Denji studied the books, after learning what kind of Kinjutsu there were, he learned what to do and what not to do in the books. He examined dummies and asked his Sensei questions. After months of studying and slaving over books, Denji was allowed to do autopsies, once he got used to that he’d be able to do his first surgery. Though his first dozen or so he’d be acting more as a nurse than calling the shots.

Denji took the time to work in the morgue since the lab was focusing on making medicines, it gave him the space to split his shifts. During the morning he worked in the morgue, and in the afternoon he’d work in the lab. He was able to get more hands-on experience with what the bodies looked like on the inside, and what kind of wounds he would see in the future. He’d have to get used to the sight.

After a few months of working in the morgue, harvesting organs, weighing them, stitching the dead back up, and such, Denji was offered to help in a surgery. He agreed since he needed to start somewhere. The first surgery was a partial liver transplant in an older shinobi who had plenty of scars. He had drunk his liver dead, with the promise of rehab, and quitting drinking, the hospital agreed to do the surgery.

Denji was nervous for the first time since he’d be working on a living human being. Well, he’d be helping. The operation was simple, take out the bad organ and place the new one in. Then they’d make sure his body didn’t reject the new organ.

Denji stayed calm and steady throughout the surgery, he made sure the blood wasn’t in the way or flooded the surgeon's view. He watched carefully and took mental notes. Dead bodies were a bit different from the living. When it was done, Denji made sure to write down his notes, so he wouldn’t forget as easily.

Soon after that Denji was able to sit on a few more surgeries, not just general surgeries, but also kinjutsu surgeries. He helped implant new eyes into a few different shinobi. He also helped transfer bloodlines, and create a chimera. He sat through, and helped with many normal surgeries as well, transplants, and scar tissue removals.

After months, closer to a year, Denji was called to perform a surgery as the lead surgeon. This was a normal surgery, a heart transplant. It would be like any other transplant, but the heart was delicate… This was a scheduled appointment, and the surgeons thought he was ready to be a leader, that and the guy needed it sooner than later, most of the other surgeons were booked.

Denji agreed and prepared for it. He made sure to go over a few notes, he had helped and sat in for a total of ten heart surgeries. He remembered everything, and his notes helped him. He also checked a few medical books beforehand as well, since someone's life would be on the line, one wrong move and that's it. He was confident he could do it, but it was better to be prepared than be sorry.

The day of Denji was ready, he scrubbed in and was briefed by the head nurse. They got to work right away, the guy was already prepared, but they were on a timer to get it done. A machine pumped his blood, the environment was sterile, and everyone remained calm. Denji took charge, he refused to let his nervousness get ahold of him. Before he knew it he had the newer heart in and was trying to get it to start pumping. He was able to get it going, with no problems, so he closed the guy up and scrubbed out.

After that Denji was able to breathe again, he felt like he was holding his breath the entire time. His first, the first surgery he leads, was successful. It felt good. Now if he could lead a kinjutsu surgery. Requests for those were less common since there were strict laws about it.

Denji continued his research and study on kinjutsu anyways, most surgeries were recorded, so he had plenty of learning material. Eye replacements were more common than any other kinjutsu type. He was interested in making a human puppet though since body and soul transfer seemed pretty cool to him. So he sent in a request, basically saying if someone wanted to become a human puppet if he could be the lead. He had surgical experience, and he made his motives very clear.

After some convincing, he was allowed to do it. So he waited, in the meantime, he continued to study, and work. He switched back to working full time in the lab when the lab wasn’t busy he worked in the clinics. Blood tests, and all that was the norm for him it felt like.

After a few months or so a request for a human puppet came in, and the surgery was booked. It was an exciting feeling for him since human puppet was more of a chakra surgery than anything else, it was transferring someone’s conscious and their chakra from one body to another. Their heart would be the key, he learned everything he needed to know the seals, the ninjutsu, but this would be the first time he’d be doing this. Denji made sure to practice the sealing jutsu and the ninjutsu required for the surgery.

The Shinobi who requested this already had a puppet they wished to use, so all Denji had to do was transfer them. Once the body and the man was prepped, Denji went to work, it was almost similar to a heart transplant, but the man would be living but not living. His chakra was his soul. He placed the man's heart and chakra into the new body and placed the proper seals. He was careful and had a steady hand while placing the heart into the new body. The chakra was transferred soon after. Soon enough the man was turned from a living being into a puppet. Unable to feel, eat, or sleep.

It was strange to think that this body was basically immortal, but at the same time it would still age, and rot away eventually. A strike to the heart and that would be it for this man, his limbs could be cut off and he'd never bleed, he'd be able to easily replace the limbs, but the only thing he couldn't replace was his heart. No matter what he wanted that would be the way it was. His heart would age as well, it would become tired and wear out one day, so in a sense, he wasn't exempt from dying of old age. It would be less likely since shinobi rarely died of old age, they were killed by something else first, usually.

Denji did a few tests to make sure everything was good, making sure the guy could walk, and talk. He made sure that he remembered who he was as well. Once everything was done, Denji released the man, of course advising him to stay out of fighting, for a while, but ninja’s never really listened. His first time he thought he did pretty good, not perfect, but he’d have to do it again.

Denji was still not the first they picked to lead surgeries, but he sat in on them anyway. He wanted to be able to have the respect that most of the other surgeons had, and he knew it was important. TO himself and the village. He couldn't be just a researcher or just the scientist. He took not he'd probably need to learn first aid too or at least pass that test. He obviously knew what to do to treat people.

Denji sat in on the next Kinjutsu surgery, eyes again, how many times did shinobi lose their eyes? He didn't want to know. It seemed like a weekly thing, it was kinda worrying, but oh well. Most took the chance to get better eyes if they were in stock. They were passed around quite often it felt like. A pair of rare eyes could have been used by multiple users. Who knew if they were using bribes to get those eyes before anyone else. Maybe Denji was just a little paranoid, there was no way his village medical branch was corrupted like that, right?

The Byakugan and the Sharingan were the most popular eyes, but the rinngengan was the most powerful and rare. He didn't know how they handled giving them out, maybe by who needed it more at that very second. That's how he'd do it, but if they really needed eyes sooner, then normal eyes would work fine right? that made more sense than anything else.

Denji watched the surgery closely, he'd seen this what felt like a hundred times, kinjutsu were rare, so he watched as many as he could even if he'd seen the same kind a few hundred times. The surgery ended successfully, and Denji moved on to the next one. There was lung transfer coming up, and Denji planned on watching it. On his way to the observatory, he was stopped by a nurse who was in a rush.

"What are you doing?! Get in there now!" The woman yelled at him and pushed him into the prep room. Denji was confused, was he assigned to this surgery? He wasn't told anything! But they seemed to be in a rush so he followed along and scrubbed in. When he entered the Surgery room the head doctor was there, giving out orders, Denji was pushed into place. He followed the orders, he quickly figured out his place in this room. He was just an extra set of hands. Either way, he adapted and was able to go with the flow without causing too much of a disruption. He'd later explained that a nurse told him to go in, and he was instructed to stand his ground next time. He was a bit of a help so he didn't get too much in trouble.

Genetic Engineering
It had been a few years since Denji joined the medical branch, time flew by it felt like, he had been slaving over books for years now and doing the dirty work. He’d been the errand boy, and the noobie, but now he was more experienced, and he wasn’t as new anymore. Five years he had been in this profession. Three years ago he made it a habit to start training after work, for at least one hour, since he was also a shinobi as well. He had been out on field missions, but the lab was his home.

Recently Denji started taking steps to his goal of bioengineering, He started rereading biology books, and genetics books. He signed up for a few lectures about genetics as well. It felt like he’d never be done learning, but he had already built the foundation to his goal, now he needed to build the frames and the support. He would probably be in the books for the rest of his life, but who knew. Medically he no longer needed to look at books, he could perform surgeries, and basic checkups on his own, well as a doctor on his own, the nurses would always be there lending a hand whether he wanted it or not.

Denji started at the basics again, even though he already slaved over basic biology, but genetics 101 went over it again anyway. What is a cell, what is DNA, etc. He learned the genes were the basic physical and functional unit of heredity, and that they were made of DNA. Some acted as instructions to make proteins, but they don't code for proteins. Each gene varies in size, and it was estimated that there are 20,000 to 25,000 genes in each human.

The first few chapters felt like a repeat, but repeating stuff helped Denji learn, and memorize it better. He read about chromosomes and how it was basically a bundle of DNA, wrapped around proteins. He also learned about noncoding DNA, and how it was more than just junk. Only one percent of DNA is made up of protein-coding genes. The rest is for the control of cells, which gene is turned on or off, etc.

Denji went to the lectures and followed along with the books. He took his notes. He already went ahead and read the first few chapters of the book, so he ended up sitting through the lecture and repeating the first few chapters again. He took notes anyways since there would always be a test.

The next few lectures he learned what proteins actually do, they were extremely important to the body. They are large complex molecules that do most of the work in cells and are required for structure, function, and regulation of the body’s tissues and organs. They were made of Amino acids. Denji thought the proteins were like things you find in food and had to eat, this was completely different.

Denji then learned about Epigenetics, it was basically making modifications to the DNA, that doesn't change the DNA sequence. He learned how cells divide, and how genes control the growth and division of cells.

Denji went to the daily lectures to learn everything he needed to know. It took months to get through it all. Gene Families, Inheriting genetic conditions, genetic testing, precision medicine, gene therapy, he learned it all. He had to learn the basics before going into genetic engineering. After he was done with basic genetics, he started studying genetic engineering the act of modifying genes. He learned the basics of altering DNA in genomes, he learned how to change the base pairs A-T or C-G’s, and how to delete a whole section and replace it with a copy of a gene. The lessons took months to complete, but he was getting it.

Denji learned how to extract DNA and combine it with DNA inside another individual. He learned how to enhance and modify certain characteristics of an individual organism. He learned how to do this with plants, viruses, and creatures. It was harder than it sounded since it was working with an extremely small workspace - small couldn’t define it. The labs were big, but under the microscope there needed to be exact precision.

After months of classes, and books, Denji was ready to move to practice what he had learned. He started on plants, he learned to splice and make new kinds of plants. He modified tomatoes, some failed and just died, but some were successful. When he was ready he joined a new research team that focused on genetics. They worked with mice and were trying to help both ninja and civilians with genetic diseases.

They also worked with viruses, altering them to do something other than kill. He put his skills into practice on that team, helping them modify genes of mice, and performing experiments. The team was able to get new treatment options with Denji’s help. Though any treatment had to go through the head before it could be tested on people, they made progress on a few genetic diseases over the months.

Denji did his own experiments at home, buying the equipment took a lot of time, and extra work, but he was able to get a mini lab set up in his kitchen. There he learned how to clone mice, and experimented with altering their characteristics. He wasn’t sure how others would feel about his experiments, but they all knew what he wanted to achieve in the future, he wanted to grow humans outside of sexual reproduction, and alter them. Well, he wanted to grow dead bodies, ones without a soul, or consciences.

It sounded impossible but he knew if there was a will there was away. Growing organs, and limbs was one thing, but to grow a body, that was had not been done yet. He felt ninja could use it to have longer lives, those who have injured their bodies beyond repair would get a chance to have a new body, one that hadn’t been used, and abused. It was to give shinobi a new chance, they’d have to train their muscles again, but that wasn’t hard to get in shape. Denji had a dream, and he was going to achieve it, he’d follow the laws, but he wouldn’t let anyone doubt sink in and ruin his goal.
