Name: Inami Koyasu (Ko)
Sex: Male
Age: 33
Rank: Medical Sennin
Physical Description:
Ko is a fairly average height for a man at around 179cm with a slim figure. His hair is blond and about ear length, usually fairly well kept. He wears glasses pretty much at all times due to his nearsightedness though if going on missions he may swap to contacts for practicality. His eyes are amber in hue. Around the hospital where Ko spends most of his time he generally wears black slacks and a belt, a button up shirt and tie, and a white lab coat.
Mental Description:
Ko is a kind, caring individual who many would say was born for the branch he ended up in. He’s a friendly guy, and patient as well meaning that he’s not difficult to get along with. His bedside manner is top notch… unless you fail to take adequate care of yourself. The one time Ko can become quite stern is if and when a patient takes stupid risks with their health.
Ko is as close to a pacifist as one can get as a shinobi. One couldn’t say that he’s never killed before, but it’s something that he tries to avoid if at all possible. He’s gone as far as training specifically in non-lethal fighting styles to prevent unnecessary deaths, but above all he’s focused for his entire career on life saving techniques.
History:
Born and raised in the good old K U of MO, Ko is the son of a shinobi dad and a civilian mother. His father was a Jounin and like a good shinobi, wanted his son to be a shinobi too one day. So, from a young age he taught his son all the tricks in the shinobi 101 handbook. Yet it was his mother’s work that fascinated Ko more. She worked as a nurse in the hospital of Kumogakure, and Ko spent a lot of time there as a child, probably more than a child should.
Seeing their son’s interest, Ko’s parents guided him gently towards a career in the medical branch. It didn’t take much. Once he learned of the Med-nins, Ko was fascinated and it was all he wanted in life to become one. By the time he left the academy, Ko had already mastered many of the basic medical jutsu. He was scooped up by recruiters for the medical branch faster than he could ask for it.
From there he did as any medical trainee did, paying his dues by cleaning bedpans while learning the ropes from anybody kind enough to show him. When possible, he’d shadow Med-nins on their rounds and learn everything he could. After a while, patients began asking for him when they’d come in simply because he was so friendly. It didn’t take long before he was a full fledged Med-nin.
For a few years, Ko did a stint as a field medic, going out on missions outside the village with other shinobi. It was during this time that he discovered he had a hard time dealing with the killing the inevitably went along with being a shinobi. In the beginning, his hesitance was a danger to teammates on a couple of occasions. He knew this was unacceptable and as a result began training in non-lethal combat techniques that would allow him to incapacitate without killing whenever possible while not being a liability to his teammates.
It was during this stint as a field medic that Ko met a man, a squad member on one of his missions. In their own ways, the two of them saved one another several times over the years. They also grew quite close, spending more and more time outside of missions with each other. There are disagreements about which one of them confessed to the other first, but to make a long story short they married around the time that Ko became a medical chief.
As a chief, Ko returned to spending the majority of his time in the hospital. In the field he had honed his skills with emergency care, but in the hospital his specialty was internal medicine. His knowledge of diseases of the human body was encyclopedic, and his bedside manner eased the worries of those he treated and comforted the loved ones of those that didn’t make it. He was also a confidant for fellow medics on rough days, and as a result gained the trust of many. Many looked to him as a leader and he took to that role well becoming a respected staple of the branch.
Perhaps that was why, when the current Medical Sennin Shinrya Kahako left the village on an long-term mission, some within the branch made moves to have Ko take her place. A combination of dissatisfaction with Kahako leaving the village for so long and some residual resentment for those in the controversial “Kitsune line” of tutelage with complaints of supposed nepotism led to a certain group in the medical branch pushing for an unrelated replacement, skipping over the Sennin’s Sesshou Osuteno, who was running the hospital at the time. A vote went through and before Ko even knew what was going on he had been thrust into the position of Sennin of the Medical Branch. Respecting both Kahako and Osu greatly, he felt guilt in taking the position, yet he would not fail the expectations placed upon him.
