Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Every footfall was a battle against gravity, as Yuii struggled to run the last metres between her and the looming, sterile entrance of the Aesculapium. Yuii hated the hospital, despised those who worked inside it, but at that moment it could have been the gates to Raiden’s warm embrace. A sanctuary of hope on what was quickly becoming the worst day of her, and her daughter’s life.

Bile burned her throat with every breath as her body strained to carry Umeko’s slight weight. Grey, sickly Umeko who looked dead save the few short, wheezing breaths she sucked in with long gaps between. Every pause made Yuii’s pulse quicken with the horrible thought struck that she had heard her daughter’s last breath. Her hand stroked Umeko’s tiny back, urging her to keep living, fighting whatever was ferociously attacking the internals of her body. With what little voice she had left she rambled whispers that encouraged her to hold on.

Through it all, and to make matters worse Yuii was struggling. Her chakra was spent, leached away by a force she could not see, did not understand, but knew originated from the tiny body of her daughter which she clutched hard to her shoulder. Her own body’s health was the energy she used to make her final leaps from the rooftops of Kumogakure and was taking a toll, not unlike a wasting Genjutsu. She couldn’t feel her hands and feel anymore, and every muscle felt stiff.

Somehow, by the will of the gods, Yuii crossed the threshold to the hall of healers.

From her first step into reception, the hospital flew into action, as if someone had radioed ahead that she was coming. Fate or designed, Yuii was thankful as her legs chose that moment to give way beneath her. “I need a medic! My daughter has been poisoned!” she cried, clutching hard to Umeko, “Save her!”

The three shinobi behind her were the furthest thing from her mind, but they would be right behind her.

As Ayumu took back to the rooftops once more, Shizuka in tow, he could see Yuii in the distance carrying little Umeko as fast as she could. The hospital was on the horizon- they were close. Yuii, however, seemed to be slowing despite her efforts. She dropped from the rooftops, giving Ayumu just a slight heart attack as he worried she might fall too, yet she carried on in the streets despite her struggle. Though he was catching up, Ayumu himself felt a bit drained of energy... more so than he should have for just carrying Shizuka this short distance, but it was nothing he couldn't fight through. He stole a glance down at the Genin to check on her status- drifting in and out of consciousness. That wasn't just fatigue. He glanced back to make sure Suika was still on her feet as well before making the final press towards the hospital. Yuii had moved out of view by this point.

Dropping in front of the hospital, he could see the entryway was already abuzz with activity, a result of warning the hospital they were coming. Disregarding the fact that the run here had not remotely finished drying his clothes Ayumu stormed in moments after Yuii had, scanning the room and finding her and Umeko quickly. "I've got another one here. Think she might have had some exposure as well," Ayumu announced as he walked in. He looked around and located an open hospital bed, laying Shizuka gently down on it before stepping back to allow Med-nins to examine or move her as necessary.

"I've got a sample of the powder that caused this," Ayumu added, speaking to the room as he reached to grab his belt pouch. Usually a Med-nin Chief would take charge in a situation like this. They'd decide what to do with the sample. Ayumu didn't pull the vial out, didn't want to take any additional risks, but instead detached the pouch from his hip and placed it on a tray atop a cart. "It's in a vial, in here. Maybe someone can test it, find out what it is?"<i></i> he concluded before dropping back against a nearby wall to take a moment and catch his breath. Just being rid of the vial felt like a weight off of his shoulders. He glanced from Yuii and Umeko to Shizuka and Suika, hating that there wasn't much more he could do at this point.

Given that Ayumu had radioed ahead the hospital was indeed waiting on them. Given he had also called for a hazmat team the hospital was also moving on that front as well. No one was going to get to take a step inside the hospital, not Yuii and her daughter, and not even Ayumu the Raikage carrying an unconscious child. A line of mednin stood side by side wearing hazmat uniforms and ANBU like masks with different types of jellyfish on them, marking them as Sentou Henkan, guarding the entrance of the hospital to prevent the group from moving any further, even by use of force their stances would suggest. Between them and the hospital, more standard hazmat uniforms were putting up what looked like tents and rolling equipment out.

“None of you are taking another step towards my hospital until you are decontaminated! And where is that Hazmat suit I called for?!” Roared an angry, womanly voice from behind the group that came from well across the street.

More people rushing outside of the hospital in hazmat uniforms saluted the new figure from a distance as they rushed towards the direction of the Main Branch offices carrying more equipment like that being set up in the tents. Osu didn’t reply to their rushed salutes but he did note that other entrances to the hospital had medical branch shinobi who would have been off duty today rushing in from all over the village in various states of dress into the hospital to reinforce manpower.

Osu himself looked rather risqué given he was only roughly wearing his Nagajuban (a sort of under robe for kimono, basically underwear) that was gradually becoming transparent in contact with his wet skin and his hair dripping with water combined with his very womanly appearance. If one ignored the chaos around them and the expression of fury on Osu’s face, one might mistake him for the subject of an erotic gravure shoot.

A rather unique looking hazmat suit with what looked like coiled up tubes sprouting out from it was rushed to Osu in the arms of another suited up mednin, and Osu slipped into it far more easily than human anatomy would normally allow. Once the suit was sealed up, one couldn’t see from the outside but blood vessels began sprouting from Osu’s body and slipping inside of the tubes. On the outside the couple dozen tubes seemingly came alive and began uncoiling into three meter long but pencil thin appendages.

“Who knows how many people you lot might have cross contaminated!? The child is the first exposed? Technical decontamination team Alpha get the toddler and begin decontamination of them first while we figure out what is at play here, Beta I want that second station up immediately for the Raikage, Gamma you are on the unconscious child when ready. No complaints about the patient order Ayumu-Sama, you ought to be first! You say you have a sample?”

Osu began crossing the street swiftly now he was properly protected and one of the appendages began reaching for the vial Ayumu had but as it began to wrap around the vial, the tendril that could normally pick up a person with ease suddenly became so weak it was having trouble even staying up. The longer it touched the surface of the vial the heavier the tendril felt and the more chakra was needed to hold it. For a brief moment Osu’s thoughts slowed as the tendril fell to the ground and he seemed to be registering something.

“That is… CANCEL MY PREVIOUS ORDERS! NURSES!!! I want a team of non chakra sensitive nurses in hazmat now! No chakra sensitives are allowed within two meters of the infant! The substance is dimeritium based and likely reacts more strongly the more chakra it is exposed to! Woman put the child down and back away or you might kill her! Someone get that vial properly contained and to analysis and be careful of chakra drain.”

Osu’s thoughts seemed to slow again before he jumped back into animation. “If they were remotely competent there is likely also mercury in the mix! I want all of their clothes stripped and destroyed immediately! Alpha technical decontamination on the Raikage, Beta on the Sennin, Gamma your station is now for the baby and I want you to guide the nurses thoroughly from a distance once they get out here. The unconscious child is only experiencing chakra burn from her appearance. If she was poisoned, as her chakra pathways are already developed, she would be dead already. Cleanse her at whatever station is freed up first, following with the other kid. They still need to be stripped immediately and receive a quick hose down, go go move! It is already eating through their clothes and reaching their pores as we speak! Someone contact mobile hazmat with an update and tell them to just douse the whole office in nitrogen, freeze everything. All the drywall and tiles are going to need to be destroyed as well as everything in between. No one in that building is allowed to leave until we are sure no one is experiencing chakra drain. At least a two hour hold on anyone entering or leaving the area. This group has already tracked the stuff all over the place, put out a public health advisory that there is a chakra draining bug going around and anyone experiencing symptoms is to call the hospital and sit tight wherever they are. Standard emergency procedures are to be followed to the letter otherwise!”

Mednin were rushing all about the place trying to rush the group into tents to be stripped and then go through technical decontamination… which was basically like taking a shower with a firehose with a bunch of strangers scrubbing you down with heavy duty soap from most accounts. The toddler they would have to be more careful with as not to break bones, but the rest, even the unconscious child would end up a bit battered from the emergency cleaning. That is if everyone followed along willingly.

Osu wasn’t moving much himself as he knew physically he was rather useless in this situation. His whole body relied on him manipulating blood vessels with chakra to move around or even remain in a humanoid shape. He got some of the substance on the outside of his hazmat suit trying to pick up the sample and he could feel the chakra drain reaching slowly into his body. If he didn’t have the suit decontaminated, in a few minutes he would be a useless pile of blood vessels in a suit on the ground. A normal person could at least power through the chakra drain itself a bit but it was far more serious for him. Even his thoughts began to slow as the connection of the unique blood cells responsible for his cognitive abilities began to weaken. Raiden be damned… he could only give orders in this situation.

“Prepare for Chelation therapy… that is all we can do. Get the labs to hurry with the analysis so we have some idea what to put into the child’s body to try and prevent her from just straight out dying from the metal poisoning. She will be in the chakra allergy ward surgery room. Go borrow some chakra draining cuffs, the chakra allergy ward has a couple bracelets made from dimeritium but we are going to need more than what we have on hand. There are the nurses, make sure they are guided well.”

Trying to defend herself from the water jutsu her opponent had sent her way, Shizuka found herself jumping upward, slipping and coughing. The water stream didn’t stop. It crushed into her side, then her leg. An angry squeal followed. She glared toward whoever was doing this and soon realized that people were wearing hazmat uniforms. There was water in her ear. She tried to defend her face from the stream but it was all in vain. Luckily, soon the assault stopped. She found traces of what had to be foam near her feet when someone dumped a huge towel over her. Cuddling into its warmth, she was then led to another ‘room’. A pop-up hospital of some kind surrounded her. Briefly she worried that the village had been under an attack and someone had destroyed the hospital. From a quick look through one of the ‘openings’, she found that the building was still there. At least the front of it.

Soon enough she was sitting on an odd plastic chair wearing white slippers. They had given her some robes to cover herself up. The towel she used to further squeeze the water out of her chocolate colored hair. By now she was feeling better. The bruises were fading as she tapped into a pool of pure chakra to recharge her system. Slowly the memories of what had transpired came floating back up. The Raikage carrying her, Suika’s worried voice, her fall with Umeko and Yuii’s office - oh, damn.

Umeko! Yuii!

Shizuka jumped from her chair, eyes wide. Unsure where to find the toddler and her mother, she dashed across the ‘room’ and managed to dodge one of the nurses in their suits. He appeared to be grumpy with that, but didn’t follow her. It seemed that either she wasn’t a ‘threat’ or he assumed someone else to stop her if she were to exit the ‘tents’. She didn’t want that, though. She wanted to find Umeko, and Suika after that.

The first one she got her head through caused commotion, but not the type she had planned on. The Raikage was getting dressed, hazmat people waved for her to leave - she didn’t linger there, moved onto the next one. The fluffy slippers made an odd sound on the fake ground. Then something caught her attention. Loud, angry growls. Yuii-san!

Without thinking - just like when she dashed through the window - she ran toward the Sennin’s pissed off voice. Apparently she was not agreeing to what the mednins were saying. Shizuka didn’t find it hard to comprehend. If Umeko wasn’t there then. .. Her heart jumped, she felt her knees grow weak again. This time it wasn’t the powder’s doing. She crossed the ‘hall’, running into the tent looking like an escaped mental patient.

“Yuii-san! I’m so sorry! I wanted to be fast!”

Large, round tears rolled over her cheeks. She didn’t mean to hurt anyone or to upset anyone. She had only wanted to help.

Everything occurred in a blur. As Yuii snatched Umeko and dashed toward the hospital, Suika stood Shizuka over her shoulder and followed behind. The kunoichi was concerned for her friend; she didn’t look like she was in the best shape. Did the toddler’s affliction also affect the Senju negatively? It wasn’t long until she was met by the Raikage who graciously took the Genin into his arms. Nodding her head, Suika followed the gang to the hospital. What awaited them, however, was quite unexpected.

Stopped across from the hospital, a womanly voice barked orders as people in hazmat suits rushed to decontaminate the group. All this for a simple poison? Suika instinctively backed away from a medical person and held out her hand to signal a stop. She appreciated their gesture, but she wasn’t the one who ingested the poison nor felt any odd effects. Standing by the worried Sennin, the feminine medic’s tone grew more frantic as she ordered an immediate strip and decontamination. She mentioned some unknown compound that raised the kunoichi’s brow, but her curiosity was not fully met when she was then swarmed by non-chakra users. Suika sighed – she knew there was no way out of this. Following personnel into an assigned area, she stripped herself and underwent the cleansing process. If they felt this much precaution to decontaminate her, then she felt no reason to fight it. Suika exchanged a subtle, yet worried look over at the Sennin and her baby. Hopefully, the medical team would be able to help.

Now dressed in a gown provided by the hospital and okay’d, Suika noticed an anxious Shizuka dodge her way toward Yuii. Mm. “I need to get to her,” she thought as she silently strode the group’s way. She was momentarily concerned over her Senju friend. Knowing her, she probably felt somewhat to blame for some of this ordeal. The kunoichi neared the group as soon as Shizuka exclaimed her heartfelt apology. Around them, medical staff busily worked to ensure that whatever was inflicted was controlled. Suika did her best to swiftly tip-toe out of their way. She then approached Shizuka and attempted to gently place her hand on her back. “Shizu-chan,” she interjected with a warm grin, “let’s go see if there’s something we can report or help with. I’m sure the medical team has questions for us, so let’s do our best while they do theirs.” Suika’s approach was both sure and affirming. She was positive that Lady Kagetsu wouldn’t mind an apology somewhere down the road, but she doubted she cared for it at this second. When someone’s loved one was at risk, nothing else really mattered. Suika, from her own personal experience, knew this to be true.

If Shizuka agreed to it, Suika would guide her to a nearby area where they would be available for questioning, yet would allow them to have full view of what was occurring. And hopefully, after matters declined to Umeko’s favor, they would get answers to the queries that loomed. What exactly was Umeko poisoned with, how, and why? A concerned, yet thoughtful Suika continued to watch from the sidelines and made herself available to aid in whichever way she could.

For the first time in her life, Yuii felt something akin to relief as her eyes fell on one Chigokai Osuteno. There was no desire to punch his girly face or make cutting remarks about his reliability. She didn't even take offence to his shocking state of dress, or the way he began barking off orders, or even the fact that he was barring them from the hospital. The medical attention didn't need to be in the hospital as long as it was happening. In fact, she was starting to feel light-headed so it was comforting to have someone taking control where she could not; though the words and their meaning washed over her mostly without absorbing. He was background noise. A far off entity from the most important being in the universe cradled in her arms.

Yuii drew Umeko closer until her cheek pressed into her baby fine black curls. "Help is coming," she assured, though the words slurred into a comforting din, "Just keep breathing, Umecchun. You'll be fine."

Through her haze, Yuii was aware of the Nurses in hazmat suits surrounding her. They swam and danced together as if through the fog of a genjutsu. A hand was on her elbow encouraging her to her feet while another was calmly telling her to do something. Their words weren't making sense to Yuii. They kept jumbling and jumping around before the meaning could be grasped, getting more insistent with each passing second. She was shaking her head no in response. No, she couldn't stand, no she couldn't understand, no she couldn't move, no she wouldn't give in to the firm pulling that would make her drop Umeko. They could heal her while she held her, she wouldn't let go, Ume needed her.

They seemed to understand as Osu's tone changed to louder shouting and the people around her scattered. The chaos continued but Yuii had a second to breathe. To kiss her daughter's forehead. The reassure her everything would be fine soon. All the while unaware that she was the one aggravating her condition. Osu's command to put her down had yet to reach her.

Which gave the team of hazmat nurses who all but tackled her and ripped Umeko from her arms the element of surprise. The weakened Sennin and panicked mother screamed one long, note filled with devastation and rage which ended in a ferocious growl that rivalled her feline friends. She reached for her chakra and pushed in to activate an ability so latent and natural to her that she could normally complete it in her sleep. In a flash, Yuii turned into a spectre of herself and pulled out of the hands of the nurses pulling her towards a quickly erecting tent.

And fell flat on her face.

It was a rude way to return to reality. Yuii had been so consumed by thoughts of Umeko that she hadn't even realised her own chakra was depleted well beyond its natural pool. That pull of power had come straight from her own body, a secondary source that was already dwindling to nothing. Yet, she still found the adrenaline to try and bite the first poor hazmat nurse that tried to lift her and flung wildly at the second but it felt like her very blood was fighting to keep her still. She instinctually tried for a fireball, one of the easiest jutsu, as a third grabbed her elbow, but it fizzled harmlessly into a puff of smoke before it began. By then Yuii was panicking, not really understanding what was happening to her, and easily overpowered. Finally, they got her into decontamination.

Rightfully, they were rough as she was uncooperatively stripped and hosed down without mercy. The threats she was trying to scream, and that the others definitely could hear, were garbled into animalistic screeches. It was when they tried to put her in on of the robes for decency that Yuii finally connected a hit, knocking whatever poor, well-meaning mednin that had approached her into the tarped ground. That was the final straw for Beta station. Yuii didn't even notice the prick of a needle into her neck, but all will to fight drained from her body as a wave of calm forced itself over her emotions. That was how she was finally sedately, dressed and lead to a stretcher and forced to rest. Riding on a cloud.

Which was where she was, lying face down and broken-spirited when Shizuka burst in crying. Yuii didn't look at her but laughed at the heartfelt apology. "Be fast...huh?" Yuii retorted as she rolled so her back was to them, "What a joke. Go try and do something actually useful and tell them I want my daughter back."

Slightly distracted by Suika’s presence she knew that the older kunoichi was right. There wasn’t much they could do but try to be helpful. Yuii wasn’t in a state where she should be bothered. The emotions a mother went through when her child was in grave danger wasn’t something that Shizuka understood, however. Too young to fully grip the circumstances she had ended up in, she bit her lip when the blue haired lady snapped. All in all it wasn’t that bad, but.. it was mean. It was cruel, even. One could say that there was no need to rub in how little Shizuka had been able to do. Yuii did so regardless. Maybe it was because she had been as helpless as a genin. Shizuka didn’t know, but she felt herself freeze.

Her blurred vision cleared. The tears rolled, fell and stopped. She rubbed the bits of leftover moisture from the corners of her eyes. Blinked a couple of times almost angrily, then stared at the Sennins back. Her arms hung limply next to her body. She felt incredibly tired. Drained. And after Yuii’s words she felt hollow. Something bitter came up and spread across her tongue. In dead silence she let her green eyes remain on that head full of blue locks. Unlike before, they were void of any emotion. She stared and stared, paying no attention to anyone else. Coiling in her tummy was a cold fire. A fury that she wanted to unleash on the one who dismissed her so easily while she had only wanted to help.

She had tried so hard to make sure that Umeko would be alright. In return, all she got was a slap in the face. Of course she hadn’t thought to be praised or thanked. The only thing she wanted when coming here was to make sure that Yuii understood and forgave her weak attempt. Apparently, that wouldn’t be the case.

“Well,” she cracked, holding herself together with the ice spreading through her chest. This time she refused to cry. In fact, there was nothing to cry about. She shouldn’t have cared to start with. All of this was dumb. It was her own fault. Somehow she had thought that she would matter, that she could change things.

“fuck you, too.” The words were out, she couldn’t breathe. Stiffly turning around to face the entrance, she directed her gaze toward Suika and gave her an exhausted look.

“I’m hungry. Want to get food?” And with that, she stumbled out with feet feeling like they were made from lead.

The whole tiff between Yuii and Shizuka was uncomfortable, but it wasn’t unforeseen by the kunoichi. Crossing her arms as she witnessed the full plunge of her friend’s good-will and enthusiasm, it took everything in her not to release a big ol’ sigh. Yeah, the Sennin was being a dick for sure, but Shizuka should have wielded the fortitude not to snap, especially considering the traumatic events that had just occurred. As her obviously sedated superior turned their backs on them and as Shizuka began to trail off, Suika attempted to place her hand on the Senju girl’s shoulder. This time, her touch was a bit more forceful.

“Shizuka,” she called to her friend with firmness both in her expression and tone, “we are not going anywhere until we’re cleared from medical personnel, got it? That’s an order from me as your superior, not as your friend.” The kunoichi was never one to shove her rank as Chuunin in anyone’s face, but it was important to stay level-headed and free of ill emotion in situations like these. Shinobi faced worse than cold and mocking reprimand out in the field, so it was better Shizuka figured this out now, Suika justified, than to be even more shell shocked later.

Feeling a tension headache starting to swarm her temples, Suika released a cool breath and nodded her head. “Follow me,” she stated as she attempted to direct the Genin to nearby medical staff. Suika attempted to approach a leading medical staff person that didn’t seem too preoccupied with the cleansing of Umeko or the study of the mystery substance. “Main Branch Chuunin, Suika, and subordinate and Main Branch Genin, Senju Shizuka, reporting. We are ready to share any and all information we possess.” And with that, the Chuunin would follow protocol and share any knowledge she had on the situation. Meanwhile, she’d also inquire about what Dimeritium was and their findings, if appropriate. This whole incident was no laughing matter – Suika suspected, from her extra-sensory perception and basic common sense, that foul play was involved. It was her duty as Main Branch to aid in figuring out what just had occurred, and so she’d do her best.

[Shizuka stopped from exiting thread. Or attempted, at least]

Ayumu shouldn't have been surprised by the reception they received at the hospital. They didn't know what it was that had gotten Umeko sick. It could have been anything. The proper protocol would surely have been to remain in place in Yuii's office and have the hospital come to them. Unfortunately, that wasn't what had happened. Shizuka had reacted on instinct and understandably rushed to get Umeko to the hospital. If by chance she hadn't done so, perhaps Yuii would have herself. Things didn't always go as smoothly as you hoped. They all had to react and adapt as best they could.

Osu stood at the forefront, barely dressed if you could call it that. He was barking orders as his subordinates ran around like mad, trying to adapt to this surprise twist of a situation. A gurney was empty and Ayumu took the opportunity to drop Shizuka off before the Med-nins who were already in hazmat gear carted her off. Glancing back to Osu as he continued his rant, Ayumu pondered how he had gotten into his own suit so quickly, but let it go. The young head of the hospital gave out further instructions for decontamination. Ayumu was apparently given little choice in anything. Osu was the expert in this situation, so he couldn't really argue.

"Fine, just hurry and get to the others," Ayumu conceded. He wanted to refuse and insist he was checked last, but arguing would only delay things further. Osu inquired about the sample Ayumu had brought which Ayumu drew carefully from his belt pouch while he was a safe distance from anybody else. Ayumu blinked as the creepy tendril reached to take the vial and raised an eyebrow as it seemed to weaken when it tried to grasp it. Ayumu never actually let go of the vial, fortunately. It might have been dropped otherwise as the tendril fell to the ground. As somebody who was particularly attuned with his own chakra, Ayumu had felt the chakra drain even from the small sample, but he hadn't come to the correct conclusion until Osu got there first.

'Dimeritium... of course,' Ayumu realized, looking at the powder within the vial. He'd never seen it in powdered form before but it was used to contain shinobi prisoners in the village. The gravity of the situation intensified as Osu gave out a revised list of instructions. Things were about to get unpleasant. Ayumu placed the vial on a cart with a tray atop and then stepped way for properly protected medical staff to take it and then made his way where directed for his decontamination. Entering a tent, he removed his clothing as instructed without resistance and braced himself before the powerful hoses began working him over. It was... uncomfortable to say the least, but not nearly the worst thing he had ever endured. He was more so worried about the others. When the decontamination was complete, he began to dress himself in the hospital issued robe that was provided.

The sound of a curtain opened prompted Ayumu to glance over his shoulder to see Shizuka behind him briefly before she disappeared again. Fortunately for both of them, only Ayumu's upper torso was still exposed at the moment. More importantly, Ayumu was glad to see the girl on her feet already. He let out a sigh of relief and then finished pulling the robe on and slipped into the slippers and hurried to follow her. Ayumu stopped just outside of the tent into which Shizuka had just disappeared. He listened quietly as Shizuka apologized... and was subsequently harshly rebuffed by Yuii. He winced at Shizuka's response and waited quietly as the girl stormed out of the room, allowing Suika to go after her while he instead slipped inside to see Yuii.

"That was... harsh,"<i></i> Ayumu commented quietly. He knew Yuii had been speaking out of grief, fear, and any number of other negative emotions but still felt it needed to be said. "She isn't to blame for any of this, you know that,"<i></i> he continued, "But we'll find out who is... and whoever that is, will pay dearly. I promise you." If anybody was looking, they'd an unnatural flash of light in Ayumu's eyes for a moment before it went away. If Yuii had harsh comments for him as well, Ayumu would take them with a needed grain of salt and brush them off. Pushing the curtain of the entrance aside, he peered outside of the tent. "Can we get an update on the condition of the girl?"<i></i> he asked of anybody who would listen.

Osu, realizing that his only role in this emergency with be a hands off approach directing the mednin under him, decided to get himself out of the hazmat suit with a bit of the poison on the tendril before he was drained of chakra. This was rather humiliating to be perfectly honest with himself, having to stand at the sidelines unable to assist directly despite being the most qualified doctor on site. However he couldn’t leave the suit until it was decontaminated and he would have to wait until a station cleared up. Maddening. Watch if he didn’t simply become a sack of sentient blood in a bag and be even more useless than he currently was.

“Make sure they take proper setup for chelation, and tell the lab to focus on identifying metallic toxins now and the binging and chemical agents later. The child isn’t in danger from the dimeritium agent itself after we separate her from chakra users, but there is likely mercury and who knows what else in her body right now that needs to be targeted. Also tell the mobile hazmat team to focus on processing the possible victims after putting the initial site on ice and send Nomura and his team to decontaminate the site in full gear.”

“Yes Osuteno-Sensei… but I just got a call from the mobile hazmat team… the window of the room was broken from the inside when they got there. The followed direction but it seems a bird was in the office and flew off when they began icing the room. They are trying to track the bird down, it has likely died not too far away from the legation if it were exposed.”

Osu’s blood pressure immediately jumped enough to give three giraffes heart failure. “Find it, contain it, and incinerate it, no excuses.” he barely managed to keep a level tone. The chances we minimal of that leading to further complications, but medical shinobi didn’t operate on best case assumptions.

So Osu waited. He watched as the Raikage and the Sennin were processed, intervened when Yuii raised a hand towards his staff, focusing his attention on seizing the blood in her body from a distance and allowed them to first separate the woman from her child and again when she was putting up a fight in decontamination and sent someone with a vial from Osu’s sleeve and his orders to sedate the Sennin. Hopefully she would forget these little details later. As the two stations soon took the children for decontamination, he saw that the baby was being rushed into the hospital proper immediately by another team of nurses and doctors wearing dimiritum bracelets normally used for visitors to a particular ward. His body was already falling apart and another mednin actually had to carry Osu into the decontamination chamber with Osu’s hazmat suit not appearing to be containing any form of humanoid shape at all and seemed more like a bag of bloody spaghetti.

To be completely honest, Osu couldn’t remember much in this sort of state. Given how even his though processing speed was reliant on some form of chakra flow, he was a barely sentient mush without any. It would be almost fifteen minutes after they had finished decontamination for him to pull himself together somewhat, and at this point he was mostly wanting updates from the mednin currently waiting at the side.

With a small bow they began speaking, “Chelation targets have been identified, dosages being adjusted but it is a delicate procedure given how young the patient is. Mercury, lead, and three minor substances are the main issues for now. Given the child’s age and currently fragile condition, likely something to do with her actually registering on the geiger counter, we are afraid there is currently a chance that even the chelation agents might kill her. The doctor made the call to continue given the child would die if they did nothing, but doesn’t express much confidence and requested research to send a medchief for a second opinion.”

“I trust their judgement and encourage them to proceed as they currently are. Tell them not to risk being too hesitant and gradually adjust from a lower dose every few minutes if they aren’t already.” Osu told the mednin plainly.

“The bird still has not been located, but research reports by their estimates that it shouldn’t have been able to fly very far if it were infected, and would currently be dying somewhere if falling from the sky didn’t kill it. The search continues though, and Nomura’s team is now on scene. The rest of the exposed have been decontaminated and the breakdown of the site has commenced and will relocate to help process individuals at the legation. The young ones are running around but have they all remained on site. The Raikage only has moderate chakra drain, the Main Branch sennin is quite heavily drained, suffered chakra burn while resisting decontamination, but currently sedated. The kids seem healthy enough though the one who passed out from chakra burn needs a follow up and everyone needs to be debriefed.”

Osu simply nodded as he had his sort of whole body equivalent of a headache. Absolutely miserable. “Keep that woman on Stardust until she can be placed next to the child’s bedside. She is likely to fly into a rage once she comes down and she is less likely to do something rash if when she does regain her faculties her daughter is in arm’s reach. She nearly knocked that one poor young woman out thrashing about.

Going back a couple minutes, a group of mednin charged with manning the radios and directing equipment and resource requests were busy at work when two of the people involved in the hazmat scare came up looking to report in.

“Chief, these two are needing to be debriefed,” one called over his shoulder.

“Chief was called in to make a second opinion in that child’s operation.”

“Ahh then we should probably just direct them to the Sesshou to speed things up anyway.” The first guy corrected himself.

One of the other mednin pointed to what looked to be a hazmat suit with blood sloshing around inside being carried into a decontamination station. “Osuteno-Sensei is currently indisposed.”

“Ah dammit, right dimeritium. The boss is completely reliant on chakra isn’t she?” The first guy sighed tapping a clipboard to his chin.

“He, I distinctly heard the Sesshou say he is a guy.” Someone spoke up.

“Nonsense, no one that beautiful could be a guy.” a guy in the back interrupted.

“Cuteness is Justice,” another offered his opinion.

“Anyway, the Sesshou is indisposed, there were three Med Chief on site right?” The first guy asked trying to get everybody back on topic.

“Two are now handling the operation directly, and Nomura was sent to the mobile site,” a woman informed.

“Well who is in charge after them?!” The first guy was beginning to get frustrated.

“Well, this is a fully equipped installation, so that would be the hospital division over the field division, and from there it would fall to General Practice. So it would be the Mednin of General Practice who is most experienced.”

“But Himeko was the one carrying Osu-Chan?” The guy asked again, not seeing the end of this question in sight.

“Osuteno-Sensei, speak respectfully... and also that is a surprisingly humble statement coming from you. Yes Himeko would be next, but she is preoccupied so after her is you, moron.”

It took the mednin a couple seconds to follow the process of elimination before he turned back towards the Main Branch Shinobi with a more authoritative expression, but right at that moment, Ayumu, his boss’s boss’s boss’s husband/boss, arrived requesting an update, causing the serious tone he had just mustered up to crack his voice a bit. “Raikage-Sama… I uhhhhh, I am uhm reporting! … I don’t really know to be honest. Apparently the child is undergoing chelation therapy which is something the poison department developed some years back for metallic poisoning? It is really like them to be honest, chelation agents are poisons in their own way, but in the right doses they break down particular metals like lead or mercury. It isn’t used that much but given… actually the dimeritium thing is confusing me, I only knew the stuff drained chakra but thought it was otherwise harmless? Chojin, you are in research, what was that all about?”

“Do I look like an encyclopedia to you? We aren’t all like those freak bosses of ours who seem to have read every book under the sun. I don’t know either. The Chiefs and Osu-Sensei are very particular about who can study dimeritium among other things. But going by context clues… the stuff absorbs chakra but doesn’t contain any right? Energy can’t be created or destroyed, which means it must be converted into something else for that to be true… But it is safe enough to contain prisoners without killing them, so why would being near chakra users kill the child?”

“That is what I am trying to ask you isn’t it? Must be classified… admittedly makes me want to know even more… Not that I would try and learn classified information without permission Raikage-Sama!”

One shorter mednin in a slightly baggy hazmat suit raised their hand.

“You are a full mednin now, you don’t have to raise your hand to speak.” Sighed the guy apparently in charge.

“I got a call from Nomura-San on the radio. Apparently a bird managed to get into the contaminated room through a broken window and was apparently eating some food that was in the floor and they still can’t find it.”

“... Osu-Sensei isn’t going to be happy about that... Pass that and anything else on to Himeko since she is with him. Seriously, who breaks a window to a hazmat site? What if the stuff had been anthrax? … Not that I am judging if it were you Raikage-Sama! I am sure you were just panicked! Not that I think you would be panicked?! … You may… you may want to leave before Osuteno-Sensei recovers though. I have never witnessed it, but I have heard that when she does get mad there hasn’t been a person yet who wasn’t brought to tears, not that I think you would be Raikage-Sama... but that endangered a lot of people who would not originally have been at risk and whoever did it will probably get the lecture of a lifetime.

A icy cold tone cut in like a sharp knife slitting across the conversation causing the heckles of the young mednin gathered to rise, “I will report to Ayumu-Sama about the hazmat complications later… respectfully.” Osu was now wearing a robe over the general state of near undress they arrived in and out of the hazmat suit from earlier. He was leaning lightly on the previously mentioned, but let go of them and walked forward alone and kneeled a bit to get on eye level with Shizuka. With a warm smile Osu brushed his hair out of his face and behind his ear, fully displaying two eyes that seemed like clear glass orbs with blood swirling within. Osu began to pull various tools from their sleeves as they spoke. “You were knocked out from chakra burn a bit ago correct? That is admirable of you to push yourself so hard, but you should be more careful. If you keep trying to use chakra when you are running on empty you burn your life force instead and very harshly at that, drain yourself unconscious and you will be helpless and as good as dead in a combat situation should you find yourself in one. Please look into this little flashlight, but don’t move your head around, thank you. You might think you feel fine right now, but your body’s self repair is running frantic at the moment and that doesn’t run on nothing. Say ahhh, and don’t mind the tongue depressor. I want you to check into the hospital, I am prescribing you a nutritionally balanced… 2500 calories before you go to bed tonight, yes that is a lot of food but you need to eat all of it including the vegetables, and the vitamin and mineral supplement and a hearty breakfast in the morning. Your body doesn’t work for free, especially as a shinobi. Take a few slow deep breaths for me, yes the stethoscope is a bit cold. Plus, if you do manage to stomach it all you can have a dessert for later on me, our cafeteria staff tend to get a bit eccentric if you praise or challenge them. Yes, that means I want you to stay overnight in the hospital. No, you can’t talk your way out of it. You have no idea how many people we have had promise to go home to get some rest and come back the next day ill from overtraining, so we just started forcing people to rest properly whether they like it or not, I even have Kahako-Senpai’s permission to lock Ayumu-Sama up for his own health should it ever be necessary. That is only partly a joke. If you try to train in your room or escape, we will have you as sedated as that impossible… as the Main Branch Sennin happens to be right now.”

Finishing his little checkup of Shizuka, Osu stood ruffling her hair a bit, and looked to the Raikage. “Reporting. The child’s condition is very precarious. The poison has severely wounded her lungs according to the last update, and is on machine assisted breathing, the chelation therapy is progressing, but the bonded metals are complicating the dosing and that can be as deadly as the poison itself… as for the dimeritium…” Osu looked at the other medical shinobi and the children. “Why don’t you two report what you can to Himeko here while I go speak with Raikage-Sama a bit,” Osu said gesturing Ayumu to follow him a bit off to the side away from the group, signaling it wasn’t really something that should be discussed to those who weren’t cleared to know, in this case it was a need to know issue even among most Jounin though most never bothered to be curious about it.

Stepping in closer to whisper to Ayumu, “the dimeritium compound is different from the alloy we typically use. I will be able to bring you some documents with a more complete explanation of the physics and chemistry involved, but for now know that rather than the bit of above body temperature heat our alloy gives off from absorbing chakra, the alloy inside the child transfers the energy from chakra to a dangerous amounts of ionized particles according to the Geiger Counter. It seems to be aimed to cook shinobi from the inside powered by their own chakra… This couldn’t have been made in some home lab, the equipment and resources, monetary or otherwise to research and develop such a thing, as well as the necessary technical and highly classified information necessary to even know how to properly alloy dimeritium to such an effect… the only two organizations I know to exist in Lightning, Bear, or Marsh that could make such a thing would be the Lightning Country Navy Laboratories and this very hospital… But there is no way it would escape my notice if someone were using the resources and energy here, and I can’t think of any reason the Lightning Navy would want to kill the Sennin?”

Any other day, any other time, Yuii might have done something about the snarled insult thrown at her by a child who probably shouldn't have known the word at all. Any other day she would remind Shizuka that she had just endangered the entire village and broken so many contamination procedures that they would probably use this instance as an example of everything one should not do in future texts. She might even remind her that instinct and care was no excuse for what she had done. That not thinking was a sure way to die out in the field.

Sedation had taken its full effect, however, and Yuii didn't care anymore she realised morbidly. The emotion behind her thoughts was gone. Whatever had been in that needle had forced a veil of cotton over her thoughts that filtered away her panic, rage and worry; leaving behind a sense of tranquillity in a world gone mad. She was aware of Suika stopping Shizuka, aware of Ayumu's arrival and even found herself muttering into her pillow "Ayumu you're so nice," when he called her harsh- but she didn't care.

There had been mednin talking amongst themselves before, but their words all ran together until one addressed Ayumu formally. Words like poison, dimeritium and chelation were used with 'child' and Yuii wondered if they were speaking about someone else. They couldn't mean Umeko. Not her daughter. They just needed to clean her off, clean out what she had breathed, and everything would be fine.

Sleep pulled at her, and Yuii realised with some fascination that her reserve of chakra had burned away. They probably thought she had fallen asleep. Why else would no one be telling her anything about her daughter? She could hear blood bags now even if the words were too far off. Surely he must know something.

When Yuii went to turn to her side, to remind them she was there, she found it didn't want to cooperate. The communication line between her body and mind had been cut so all she managed was to roll her head to the side. At least she could see now.

"Ayumuuu, tell them to bring Umeko back already. Isn't she clean yet?"

Inside she was afraid, but she had to keep up the facade. Luckily Yuii didn’t have the energy to do anything or Shizuka might have lost a limb - at least that’s what the young Senju was thinking about when heading out of the room. There was a tension in every fiber of her body. With so many high ranked shinobi around she should have kept her mouth, but her anger had gotten the better hand here. Thankfully Suika was there to get her attention and keep it focused for now.

Both her mind and heart were still running wild with upset thoughts she only managed to numb because she was too proud to show the panic that’s been trying to get through the numbness. No matter what, she couldn’t help feeling offended. There was regret for having tried to help. If it didn’t get appreciated then she didn’t know why ..- it was a mess. An ungoing broken record she couldn’t stop. Until the doctor came into view by crouching in front of her. She blinked with a look of confusion. Having been so caught up in her own thoughts she hadn’t even noticed that the one to examine her had already arrived.

Nodding softly she wondered if someone was to yell at her any time soon. She had caught a bit of someone saying the broken window was a huge problem. Well, she could see that now, but it was kind of too late anyway. A part of her wanted to protest being at the hospital, because it wanted to leave and forget all about today, but she realized that they would find her if they wanted to speak to her and staying here might be the better option. The last thing she wanted was for her parents to be traumatized by how dumb their only child was.

“Dessert,” she repeated after the friendly doctor, eyes briefly litting up. Then, her attention shifted to something he said about Kahako. The woman who had saved her friend, of course, it made sense that she was the head of the medical branch. The comment about locking up the Raikage brought a tiny smile. She cringed, though, when the Sennin was mentioned. The man would probably think that she reacted the way she did because of the idea of being sedated. “Won’t train in the room, I promise.” she let him know, nodding a couple of times before slipping away from his peculiar eyes and toward Suika.

There was something she wanted to ask the Chuunin. “Are you mad?”
