Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

"Sanae! SANAE! Would you stop running and jumping into the puddles?!"

Ears flapping into the wind, body bounding through the grassy land, a shiba inu's tongue flapped through the air as her body hopped through the puddles trickling about the forest path. It just recently rained and the dog seemed to take advantage of this, knowing it would get a reaction out of her owner that strictly hated it when she got herself dirty. If one didn't know any better, Sanae almost looked like a giant bunny in the distance. But no... She was just a dog who enjoyed taking the piss out of her beloved caretaker's annoyance. Don't get it wrong. Sanae adores her Inuzuka: Ryou. But she lived for days like this where she could annoy the teenager without a care in the world just so she could see her active, outside, and free.

Even a smile was enough, as long as Ryou was in the world.

The young lady just groaned as her dog just smiled at her, tongue lapping out of her mouth as she got her body low to the ground. It was almost as if she was mocking her; laughing at her. The greenette knew this position the dog was getting into like the back of her hand. Sanae was going to make a mad dash for it if she even got a step closer to her. It was with this turn of events that the girl concocted an idea. The teen clutched a hand to her chest and hunched over, groaning out in feigned pain before collapsing to the ground. It was with almost a straight face that Ryou had fainted and seemed a bit peaceful. Almost as if all the worries had washed away in the last moments of her fake death.

Sanae straightened up her legs and seemed confused at first, her happiness immediately disappearing from her face before the dog raced over to inspect. The shibe sniffed at Ryou's hair and did a circle around her fallen form to investigate once, twice, and even three times before licking her snout and whimpering. Surely, she couldn't have just died, right? There was no way. With another whimper, the dog began tugging at Ryou's jacket to see if she could gain a reaction.

Nothing.

It was then that Sanae took Ryou's glasses and threw them on the ground.

Not even a twitch.

Beginning to panic, the dog began barking at the environment around her. Surely, someone would come and investigate, right? The fact that her owner had just collapsed distressed her, after all.

The forest was oftentimes serene due to the stories people had told of experimental creatures, monsters and the other manifestations. The tall tales would often frighten most people, but the idea that he could capture one for fun? Not too much of a difficult challenge for the young Yamanaka.

At least he thought he was still a Yamanaka?

The incident a few weeks ago was still incredibly fresh in his mind, and the specs he had to now wear to keep his eyesight near enough 20/20 vision was a constant remind that he should be more careful with what he was doing. He couldn’t just go around touching people and grabbing genetics, even though he found that recently even the gentle brush of the skin could possibly absorb information like that.

Ko would kick a stone down the path, sending it a few feet in a less-than-linear path due to the bumps and crevices within both the rock and the floor. No one had properly designed the path and was instead a path of destiny from travellers of a previous time. Mud where grass once grew at a time, and rocks that had found themselves smothered in dirt. This only made the walk a little slower to allow the man to gather his thoughts as he slumped.

” Medical experiments coming out of the wazoo my ass,” he grumbled, kicking the rock much further down. ” Not even one single slime creature, or run away bloodline failure, or anything!”

At this point his ears pricked up. A faint and distant sound of some kind of animal. Not a bird or rodent but of some kind of larger mammal. He couldn’t quite tell what, but if there were animals making sound it means there was some kind of action! The Yamanaka would use this pick up pace, forgetting that the rock he had kicked had ever existed and now focused on the sound that grew larger and clearer. It seemed to be… a dog! Why was there a dog barking so much?

He approached the clearing in which the dog seemed to be as he noticed there was a girl on the ground next to it. She seemed completely gone, paler than the walls of his apartment and unconscious. He couldn’t tell if she was bleeding. So in case he was in a dire situation he would rush past the dog, who hopefully wouldn’t mind that he was just ignoring it.

”Hey miss are you okay?” he called as he rushed to her side. She seemed petit, small and a little fragile. He would attempt to check her pulse on her arm, hoping that he didn’t have to perform CPR. But if he had to take one for the team…”Hey can you hear me?” he called again, shaking her slightly to see if she would awaken from this state.

Finally, a human who heard the signal! Sanae was eternally grateful to whoever this strange man was that rushed past her small form, sensing good vibes and good intentions from him as he began to check over her beloved owner. From the moment this person's form closed in to the way they treated Ryou, there was no need to worry about the possibilities of a harmful situation. At least, not at the moment. Anything could turn south within the blink of an eye and that outcome never dissipated from the shibe's mind. But right now, the most pressing matter was Ryou's condition. The dog began to sniff, her wet nose pressing against the young lady's form for signs of life. Anything would do at this point just to put the dog's mind at ease, for with each passing minute everything was becoming more distressing.

It wasn't until Sanae began to grow more frustrated that she finally spoke up to this strange person, more bark than bite in her voice. "Do something! She could be low on oxygen! Her heart could have stopped! Come on, man! Are you here to help or aren't you?!" Despite how shocking it would be to discover that a dog could talk to a person or two (if not having grown up around a Ninken like Sanae), that wasn't the important factor here. This dog was getting impatient and the anxiety was practically killing her mental fortitude.

All this was progressing at an alarming rate.

A very alarming rate for a certain Inuzuka... laying on the ground... Pretending to be dead.

This wasn't a game anymore. This was turning into something that was beyond serious. And in these drastic moments of being trapped between a rock and a hard place, Ryou vowed to never pull a trick like this again. This escalated into levels that she can't back away from now. She had to play along now in this trap she created for not only Sanae, but now for this unsuspecting stranger involved in what was supposed to be an innocent trick. What a turn of events that just spiraled downwards into dangerous territory; all because her dog wanted to skip through puddles, knowing that it would tick her off. But there was no backing down now.

Ryou Inuzuka mindlessly searched the depths of her consciousness for any last words in her moments of stupidity. This was going to be something that the greenette will never live down, and her firework of a dog would make sure of that. This stranger wouldn't cause harm to her, right? If they seemed to be touching her, checking her, and worrying over her... Maybe they carried good intentions. And that was the worst part. Ryou would feel awful for practically launching this situation into no man's land, and getting this person caught up in the middle. If they were this kind and this quick in a state of emergency, she would owe them big time for it if things escalated even further than they already have.

The little lady didn't even know how to get herself out of this situation. What was she supposed to do? Suddenly spring to life and claim she was okay? No, no. That was too embarrassing. She had her pride! She wouldn't admit she was wrong right now! What about just getting up and running away? No, the stranger might chase after her... And that would only raise suspicions! What a situation the teenager has landed herself into. What would the stranger do now that she wasn't moving? Not even twitching a finger? An eyelid? Her own eyes?

By whatever higher forces exists out there in the world, she just wanted this embarrassing endeavor to end.

The shaking didn’t seem to work at all. So she wasn’t just sleeping there soundly. Something was definitely up with her but he wasn’t sure what. Not even the dog here could even seem to wake her up. Seemed loyal too. Probably the owner right there hence the distress that appeared in the dog’s movements. Understandable really.

Wonder why she even fell down. Doesn’t seem like there’s any injuries. Probably malnourished due to how skinny and weak she looks, he thought to himself as the dog was poking at her with her snout. Not really working but it seemed like there must have been some kind of life… maybe?

The dog began so agitated that it broke its cover of just being a regular dog and… talked? Was he tripping? Never heard a talking dog before that was for sure. But one thing was for sure was that this dog was really needing help. He looked at the dog, back to the girl, and then to the dog before nodding once more. This was something he really had to do. He hadn’t ever resuscitated anymore before, and it was going to be an incredibly new experience for him.

”Alright… alright I’ll help as much as I can,” he replied to the dog. He was beginning to feel like he was crazy, the fact he was talking back to a dog in all this. But this probably wasn’t going to be the weirdest thing in the world to him.

He would get a little closer, obviously realising she was still motionless. Maybe she wasn’t breathing? He better do something to sort that out. He had a couple options to deal with such a situation.

”I’m sorry,” he muttered slightly as he got closer to the young lady. He face getting nearer to her, and he his hands nearing her torso and chest. He would look at her, checking to see how she is as his hands got a little closer before…

I hope this will help you live…

Before he grabbed her by her collar and would give her a big slap across the face. Hopefully the shock of the hit would jumpstart everything and wake her back up. If not then he had a goof defibrillator jutsu that could work on her chest.

Was this person shaking her? Was Sanae willingly talking to a stranger? What has this whole charade turned into? Ryou wondered what exactly was devolving here in these precious spans of time. Despite the voice sounding like it belonged to that of a male, in this world you could never be too sure these days. Still, the teen kept as still as possible in fear that things took a turn for the worse. Right now, after all the calculating and possible solutions that had been ran a hundred times over in her head, the Inuzuka concluded that keeping up this little act was better than nothing. Even though she came to this conclusion just a moment or two ago, this was becoming more embarrassing to deal with. Little did she know that she was about to receive quite the rude awakening.

Before Ryou even knew what was happening, she could feel the force of her shirt collar being yanked up violently. It was in this that she nearly let out a gruff sound from the sudden jerk in movement, but what had occurred next only triggered an instinctive reaction. Upon feeling a stinging force smack itself upon her cheek, the young woman balled up her fist before launching her right arm forward in an attempt to punch this stranger square in the face. How dare they? Sure, they were under the impression that she might have been dying or critically injured. But a slap? Really? It was in these moments that Ryou didn't give a damn about anything other than this stranger getting their what for.

After those seconds the little lady's eyes fluttered open wildly, a scowl painted across her pale features with a growl leaving her lips. Those trademark sharp fangs revealed themselves as she took in the stranger's new features, clearly unhappy with them at the moment. Yet she angrily decided to keep up this rather idiotic facade she placed herself in, otherwise she would be in for a world of embarrassment and hurt. Sanae only barked happily at Ryou's successful revival before going over to check on the stranger, almost as if it was a way of saying thanks for his actions.

"You have the stupidest way of reviving people.", Ryou proclaimed before shifting her body to sit on her rear. The dirt ground shot up speckles of earth and dust before the greenette continued. "But thanks for saving my life, jerk. Way to make a first impression by slapping a person." For emphasis, the girl pointed to the now red shaped mark of a palm across her cheek. If this man couldn't tell, there was a part of the sassy teenager that was being sarcastic. Then again, anything could go with Ryou. With a groan, a pale hand began to rub the spot the man slapped to only wince afterward.

She had to admit, that was a good slap.

Her body seemed to jolt instinctively to the slap he made on her cheek as if it kickstarted her heart and mind back in gear. What he didn’t expect was the jolt to cause her arm to move up and hit him directly in the cheek. The connection to his cheek was beyond perfection, and the Yamanaka’s obviously poor reaction to any kind of attack shined as he took it like a champ and would fly off of Ryou’s body.

”Oof,” Ko uttered out as his body hit the floor and slid a couple of feet from the Inuzuka’s punch to his face. His cheek would scrape across the floor, now also leaving a red mark against it. Probably would take a couple of days for the red to go down. And even when it went down he was sure it was going leave a mark for weeks if not months on his slightly fragile body. The Anbu-in-Training would turn around to the girl who was now sitting on her rear. Her dog checking up on him to make sure he was okay. He didn’t really care that much for the dog, but at least it stopped barking for now. Plus it didn’t seem to think that he did wrong so that was a bonus. At least he wasn’t getting bitten on the butt as well!

Ko rubbed his cheek in response of her getting angry over how he managed to hit here. His attempts to sooth where he had been hit were obviously failing so instead he would put on a cheerful yet slightly goofy face and his hand would move from his cheek to the back of his head. His arm now resting to keep the rest of his body up. He was a little shaky from the surprise hit but otherwise okay.

”Hey it worked okay?” the Yamanaka replied, shrugging lightly as he looked at her. ”I could’ve shocked you back to life but I didn’t want to use such a thing if this worked so… you’re welcome!” He just laughed slightly and looked at Sanae.

”Seems your dog was fond of the idea. Your err… talking dog?” He looked back to Sanae and then back to Ryou. ”I assume you’d know this or that I’m going crazy just from wondering this forest alone. Either way I think you’re lucky I came across such a situation as this.”

Ko would grin, before slowly getting himself up from the forest floor and would hobble slightly over to her. The slide after the punch really did a small number to his right side. After he managed to get over to her he would offer a hand to help her up from the muddy floor. His ocean blue eyes would look into her pale green eyes.

”But if you want an introduction from your saviour, then my name is Yamanaka Ko. Maybe we can start this first impression again with less life-threatening situations?” A slight smile would grow from his lips. He somehow saved her life but why wasn’t she so grateful to her saviour?

It worked? It worked?! Of course this man's method of revival worked! With a slap to the face to revive a person, you really think it wouldn't? A slight growl escaped pink tinted lips, Ryou's sharp teeth baring slightly at the man's oh-so-observant fact. Little did he know that all this started off as a ploy to mess with her nuisance of a dog. And it escalated into a slap, punch, and social interaction with a... person. This was not something that this particular lady found pleasant - or did in her spare time - but it looked like she was stuck with socializing with this form of crazy for now. Despite the point he made about how he could have shocked her by some unholy means, there were plenty of other ways he could have went about such a method than a slap. Nevermind the fact that she was merely playing dead. He didn't need to know that. She didn't need to be slapped. The end.

The man then went on to speak of Sanae and her ability to talk, almost unsure of the very notion. This clearly spoke volumes that he didn't grow up around what was an everyday thing for Ryou. This new snippet of information let her know that he was not part of the Inuzuka clan or any other branch. If he was, that would spell bad news for this blondie regardless. As he tried to reassure himself that her dog could indeed talk, the greenette could practically feel an eyebrow twitching as she wanted to facepalm. The urge to just bury her own head in the ground or stuff her ears with dirt was taunting her, but she decided to just bear with the way things were for now.

She got herself into this.

She can get herself out.

"You aren't going crazy, dude. Sanae can talk. The little..." With a narrowed gaze, Ryou glanced towards said shibe with annoyance. The dog only stuck the tip of her tongue out of her mouth in response. "... Sweetheart... chooses not to around people she doesn't know, unless it's an emergency." Oh, how it pained her to be nice to her when she was around a stranger. If the two were alone right now, Ryou would go into a full blown war with Sanae without hesitation. But right now, it was a war of nonverbal communication and under the table cues. It was only after this that the man seemed to struggle getting up before clumsily making his way towards her.

And then, it was only until he stuck his hand out that he looked... familiar. Almost too familiar. With a slight turn of her head away from the man, Ryou only squinted her eyes. A frown graced the little lady's features as her green orbs took in his face and newly bruised cheek. In one way or another, there was a reason that Ko was making her feel uneasy. A different kind of uneasy that Ryou never got with just any kind of person. Still, to not invoke even more awkward mishaps, the Inuzuka took his offer to help her up before greeting him back. After all, it was the polite thing to do right? The fact that he was a Yamanaka had made sense now from the blonde hair and blue eyes, too.

He did look like a softie.

"Inuzuka Ryou. An absolute thrill, you nerd." That was the most witty thing the girl could come up with right now from the way Ko talked of himself, but now she was going to ask some questions. She had to know if she's seen this face slapper before today. And she didn't even notice she was still holding onto his hand. The girl only leaned in, eyes still squinting as she thought real hard. "By any chance, have we... met before? I feel like I've seen you around somewhere..." Was it from her days in the academy? Or around town? Ryou had this feeling in her heart that she knew of this man.

Yamanaka Ko... Yamanaka Ko... Where has she heard his name before?

Oh it was good that he wasn’t going so mad that the dog was actually able to talk. Who knew what kinds of flora he could’ve eaten in this forest that would have caused him to hallucinate or begin to imagine things that weren’t quite true in this world. At least the young lady could indeed confirm to him that he was right. Though she didn’t seem to be too thrilled for this information to be out in the open. Almost like it was meant to be a real secret.

”Ah well at least this was an emergency,” he laughed slightly as she eventually took his offer of a hand. Slightly cold skin, though there seemed to be a fierce or feral feeling amidst all the features of the young lady. He couldn’t quite put his mind to it, but maybe his newfound powers would be able to work out what kind of being she was.

Not that it mattered. She was happy to give her full name of Inuzuka Ryou. The clan that made connections to animals and had companionship with one kind of creature. He figured this girl’s was canines. How interesting. How… quaint. Best to keep up the appearances as not to upset the dog who was probably more than just a normal dog.

”A-ah a nerd huh?” he replied, moving his hand from hers and moving it to the back of his head. ” You know it’s not the first time I’ve been called that… you know… cause of the glasses.” Not quite right but best to make it up for now. ” But I’m glad that my personality could be so easily recognised by you.”

It was at that point the young lady began to squint and look at him a little closer. His eyes darted to the left pretty quickly, avoiding her gaze a little as he felt a little uncomfortable. The first time really in a long time that he felt a little… nervous? She wasn’t a cop, was she?

” Err I-I think everyone has probably seen everyone briefly in his village. Probably saw me walking past. A face like mine is probably pretty unique.” He made a cheeky wink to cover his obvious nerves. ”I-I don’t think I’ve met someone with the last name Inuzuka before. That something special in this world? I know there’s all sorts of families with really cool powers. Sadly, I don’t have my family’s ability to possess people’s minds and stuff like that. I got all the boring stuff, like blonde hair.

Not anymore at least, the Yamanaka thought to himself as he tilted his head slightly in anticipation of the young girl’s response. Maybe they HAD met people. Hopefully not a previous fling… that would be awkward to forget someone you had hooked up with before. Though she seemed too angry for him.

Way too quick to blow up on someone for no reason, he thought to himself once more.

If Ko could only see Sanae's growing nervousness at the situation that was about to unfold. Even though the man may have not realized it now, Ryou would make sure of a very important fact here very soon. The cream colored animal could only feel the sweat on her paws profusely as a gulp slid down the shibe's throat. The dog's eyes were wide as she merely adjusted her body to the side, only looking at the two a bit away with a bit of white in her eyes. If this wasn't a clear indication that the dog was bracing herself for a situation where things could get messy, she didn't know what would save this man from another slap to the face.

Or a kick to the ass...

Speaking of Ryou, the ninja could practically feel her eye twitching. Despite his protests of how they probably would have bumped into each other a time or two because of his 'unique' face, this was... different. Something was tugging at the back of the Inuzuka's mind that she just couldn't ignore and it was clearly going to bother her to no end until she got to the bottom of this. As Sanae merely kept a safe distance away from the two, Ryou only listened to Ko's words before making the attempt in grabbing the collar of his shirt sharply. If he backed away in time, he would be fine. For now. But if he didn't, the little lady brought the man to her level and stared right into his blue eyes with a growl escaping her gritting teeth.

Sanae could only lick her nose in anxiety as things began to get a bit tense, the greenette replying to Ko without much hesitation now that she knew where he was from. She knew now how she remembered Ko. And little did Ko know right now that his past was catching up with him right in this very moment. Even if he may have not remembered his days in the academy where she was a victim to some of his pranking, Ryou would kindly remind him. The very memories of those days struck down as fast as lightning and it was time that some resolution came into motion.

"Tell me something, Yamanaka Ko...", the girl began. "And think really hard. Think back to your days in the academy... You loved to do something back then, didn't you? To a lot of other classmates. For a long time." Ryou began to tremble slightly but she still held her gaze with Ko, not wanting to seem like she was a weakling. No, she had to keep up this front that she built up. Because of people like him. "Do you remember a little girl? With green pigtails? That you pranked quite often?" A memory began to play in the depths of her mind like a film, all the while gazing with a fiery intensity up at this man before her. "A girl whose hair you cut? A girl you dumped water on? A girl you messed with for days and days until you graduated?! You're lucky I don't knee you right here and now in a very important place of yours...!" Raising her voice, the girl only felt her eyes grow wet and warm. Tears began to brim Ryou's eyes as she still did her best to keep up such a strong facade.

"Do you remember me now, Ko?"

Looked like the ruse didn’t work. Whatever she was piecing together she was doing it at a rapid speed. You could see it as the dog began to sense whatever was cooking up in her mind wasn’t very good at all. He could almost feel the tension from the dog right there. Was this the connection the Inuzuka had to their animals? Maybe just by the gentle touch he gave to this young lass he had learned some things about Inuzuka and their connection.

She seems to be the real deal, Ko thought to himself before he was suddenly grabbed by this feral and fierce miss. Yeah definitely the real deal, he thought once more, his eyes widening as he was brought down to her small and petite level. He could really see the more feral features, the gritted teeth, the fangs and whatever other features that would betray any hidden softness that she may show.

No, she was definitely someone to watch out for.

She would begin to recount memories and recite them as if they had only happened mere hours ago. How he apparently did all these horrible things to her, like cut her hair or dump water all over her. These kinds of pranks seemed to return tears and become so real to her that he almost felt bad for her.

However…

”I’m sorry, Ryou… but if it was indeed me then I don’t remember. If I was pranking people, then you were just another target in an entire academy.’ He would look away from her at this point, before looking back at her and smiling softly. ”Everyone probably wants revenge as much as you do.”

Why the hell would he have regrets about something he did years ago? He was just a dumb kid with a weak chakra coil then. Now he was a much stronger shinobi, surpassed his weaknesses (through legal or other means). And she was just going to get angry because she had a little bit of water sprayed on her? After all the saving he did?

Whatever, man.

He would just put his hands in his pockets, turning his head and closing his eyes before scoffing.

”Well if you were going to hit me out of revenge you’d have done it by now. So go on. Go hit your saviour if that’s what you really want to do.” He would turn his head before looking at her and frowning. ” Hit your tormentor and feel better about yourself.”

In all honesty he didn’t want to be hit. He was playing chicken, and hoping he wasn’t going to become dog food for whatever this girl was.

Wonder if she’ll actually blink.

A target? Target?! Oh, that was the last straw. Unfortunately for Ko, he didn't seem to grasp the gravity of the situation that he so elegantly trapped himself in. The past was clearly here before him, threatening to literally give him what for. And he was standing in the teen's grasp as if he was some sort of deity that should be praised. Ryou didn't even need saving in the first place, much less ask for it. But the way he was even moving was starting to anger the greenette more than he could ever begin to fathom. Sanae, the poor witness, stood up on all fours and began to slowly back away in the fear that her master was about to make her gaze upon to something unpleasant. If the Yamanaka even paid remotely close enough attention to the shibe, he would know what's coming to him.

In order to throw the man off, the greenette slowly let go of the fabric of Ko's collar with a feigned and pained smile gracing her pink lips. It's with this that she sarcastically replied to his cocky comments, her hands even fixing his collar by brushing along the side of his sleeves. "You're right. You are my saviour... And if I wanted to hit you, I would have done it by now, right? However, as you said, there are countless people who would love to get their hands on you from school. And you know what, Ko?" A certain dog scurried behind a nearby tree, refusing to be a part of what was about to occur. In moments, a sickening smile graced the Inuzuka's lips as her quick comeback began to fall into motion.

Suddenly, Ryou's leg swung back before launching itself upwards in an attempt to commit a special thank you to the man before her; it was aimed right at a very precious aspect of his body. Not even tearing her gaze away from him, she only smiled as anger overwhelmed all of her body language. Whether her special sign of gratitude hit his privates or not, the little lady watched his reaction with Sanae cowering in the background, hiding behind a tree. "This is for all the people in school that you gave hell. And a permanent reminder that you'll remember me next time, you little shit." Despite the smile on the girl's face, the tone in her voice of anger told a completely different story.

She didn't blink.
