Character's Physical Description:
A rather scrawny looking child that can easily be dismissed as a threat to anyone. He stands under average height and weight for his age. Black unkempt hair is all most see in regards to his facial features as the boy always seems to wear a mask. This doesn't cover his rather neon blue eyes though. Has somewhat paler skin than a normal person would though he isn't ghostly white.
Character's Mental Description:
Shi has a habit of talking to himself out loud and can be at times quite invasive of another person's personal space. Despite this he doesn't actually talk to others much, quickly resorting to making distance between himself and someone who acknowledges his presence. This is to say he has shown moments of serious emotions when under stress and is surprisingly intelligent when his head is not in the clouds. Though he might at times seem uninterested in wayward, he is constantly listening to thing around him.....he just might not remember hearing it at that moment.

Character History:
Born into a less well off family of outcasts, whose questionable practices were something shunned even by social pariahs. His family had been considered tainted for generations thanks to a ritual that called for newborns to ingest small amounts of non-elemental carmot. Naturally it was also known that the clan had incredibly high infant mortality rates, accustomed rightly so to the ritual, though even for the surviving infants there would be possible downsides. Surviving infants would typically grow up just fine however on rare occasions the process causes psychosis to develop, evident by a trademark glow in their eyes. This had been Shi's inherited destiny as he was one of these rare cases.

Even before the events of recent within Sunagakure, Shi had been prone to seeing the world as a large illusion. Kept in check by medication, his only tell-tale became a habit of rambling randomly to himself as he frequently would engage in vocal self-dialogue. While this all might not seem big, while under control of his mental state Shi had showcased a rather early aptitude for genjutsu to the point that he would be considered a once in a generation talent within his own clan. It was understandable almost though, for a kid steeped in mental issues to have a talent for something that usually take advantage of such. Though prior to the events of late regarding the swarm, Shi had only been introduced to such talents as a hobby to help with his stability.

Everything changed when during the chaotic events surrounding the Swarm that much of his clan had fell victim, a story like many others unfortunate to have faced the brunt of the incursions. Shi had been orphaned by the swarm yet saved thanks to the very ritual that his clan had performed as he was taking treatments within the village at that time. Being secured behind the walls of Sunagakure, the news reached him and like many orphaned children from shinobi family backgrounds, he found himself adopted by the village. As his mental state had been deemed a non-hazard and he had already showcased rational judgement while taking medications, his pathway to becoming a shinobi was clear. He hasn't developed a reasoning for being a shinobi, so it's just assumed he's going with what others would expect of him.

Nara Application:

The Unmei clan had long since branched from the original Nara group from a time in history where it is no longer known to even members how exactly they came to be settled within Wind Country. So to had so much time passed that the very nature surrounding their clan's passed down techniques had been altered as present day members had developed the understanding that their origins were rooted demonic curses. The intangible natures of their shadows became more and more associated with illusions and mental tricks than the manipulation of actual shadows. It was why current generations of the clan had no thought that they were distantly connected to the Nara. While the techniques handed down through members of the clan still have influence to their originators, they only now hand down a single technique which members build upon through their own skills.

Shi, being an orphaned survivor of the clan is of no difference. He had been old enough to have instruction on the clan's technique though it was not until becoming a student within the academy was he given a foundation to build upon. Thanks to the clan's incorporation of a ritual, he had developed into a rare inheritor of the clan's perceived curse. In exchange for mental stability, Shi's natural aptitude for not fully living in reality gave him an almost realistic ability to his illusionary shadows.
