Hina knew many things about right and wrong, but she also knew about self-preservation. She was in the slums and a man had come up on her so fast she could hardly comprehend what was happening. The man’s fist slammed into the wooden wall just to the left of her head. Hina was no longer making a sound, and her desperate attempts to be free were becoming more and more feeble. She had to hide. Without looking where she was going, she backed up. Her foot collided with a bucket to the side, “Damn!” she hissed as it clanged. She looked up, she froze, and then she ran.
The muffled world around the criminal abruptly began spinning again as a sound behind him snapped him out of his morbid contemplation. Reality hit, and the assaultor found his hands figuratively coated in the splinters from the wooden wall. He would be hung like a dog if Hina got away and was able to report his crime. He needed to end this or leave before authorities could be brought here. He then saw Hina look back at him and that brief moment inspired his sense of survival, and whatever sense of morality he had left it was discarded. His heart raced even quicker than the female’s run, for he knew he’d never catch her, especially not a shinobi. And so he watched her disappear into the depths of the slums, and the criminal truly believed he was doomed. He was fearful for the right reason. Hina escaped and the criminal was put in jail. What a shame.
