Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

It was something Miraku had to do every once in a while. As a higher ranking ANBU, helping the trainees improve and learn what they needed to before becoming Mempo was something expected of him. As such, he made it his purpose to fulfill these duties every so often when he was home and had free time to spare. It gave him a chance to pass on the knowledge his master had taught him, along with some that he had learned from others. He had to be careful not to pass on too many things he had learned from his master, as they were not meant to be shared until the time came where he would find one worthy to learn under him. At least that was the plan.

Upon waking up that morning, Miraku sat up in his own bed, more on the outskirts of the main section of the village. He enjoyed the more quiet area, but it made for a further journey to the Sileo Tempestas every time he would have to head in there. Getting out of bed, a chilled breeze blew through his window into his room, brushing against his back, sending shivers down his spine. He was glad he would be spending the day inside the ANBU base instead of outside to avoid the cold right now, especially after having dealt with his last mission. It didn't take him long to shower and get dressed so that he could head out. He needed to get to the training room earlier than the one he was training today because he had to set up the area properly in order to set the scenarios that he would be making them go through in training. His plan for today was to make the trainee learn about strategic thinking and stealth techniques which would be used for a multitude of different missions in their future.

Heading out the door, he made quick work of his travels to the Sileo as he entered the base within the mountain and made his way to one of the easy access rooms which trainees would be allowed to work in. It was a large room lit up well enough to give the effect of evening sunlight for simulation purposes but could be changed at the room operators discretion. There were a few mock buildings placed around the room, with a more important one in the middle to function as a target dwelling. Miraku brought out a few dummies which were able to hold chakra which a user could infuse into them to better fill the role of a person without needing to use actual people. He placed them in certain locations within a few of the homes, and especially in the target home. These would come into play in a little while, but for now, he would leave them set up to explain once he got to that part in the lesson today.

For now, all he needed to do was wait for the trainee to show up to the location so he could start seeing where he'd need to go exactly with this whole thing. Miraku just sat down in a chair against the wall adjacent the door so he would be seen when his trainee would walk in. Since they were in the Sileo, he was just dressed in more casual garb this day; a black t-shirt, grey cargo pants and his jacket on with his hood down. His dark hair was slightly messy from the wind while running outside, as he closed his green eyes in wait of the approaching young man.

[col]Waking up, finding himself in the bed of the massive manor that he 'inherited' from his birth parents, he turned to look at the alarm clock. The clock read 'too early' for Kyo to care. While he lived out in the wild, he would have to wake up earlier than this in order to fill his stomach with something he and his 'siblings' would hunt. In the land of Kumogakure, however, convenience made him lazy and weak in comparison to how he was in the wild. He didn't need words to convey his feelings nor did he need to barter with others. It was a take or be taken from mentality out in the Spine of the World. However, living in Kumogakure for the past 4 years let him live with luxuries someone as simple-minded as himself never thought was possible. It only required a little bit of familiacide for him to get these creature comforts.

Jumping into the shower, he washed himself. The stink of the wild and the stench of the village still lingered. A man that grew up smelling like an animal disliked the smell of other humans and the smell of industry. City-life left a terrible odor that he couldn't shake off, one he found obscene and offensive to his primitive instincts. After getting out of the shower, he dried off and put on his raggedy vest and pants. Simple clothing that was held together with a single rope along with some sturdy sandals that could take running and quick turning. It was still a wonder how people could wear this non-sense, but going around barefoot might be seen as some kind of taboo; something for someone to be offended by. Certainly, his very presence was offensive to some, which he didn't particularly care for. Their whiny feelings weren't something that bothered him nor garnered any pity from him.

Even if he disliked the idea of living in a human house, his companion, Dakota enjoyed the idea. The massive dire-wolf got up with a stretch and turned to look towards Kyo, having her tongue hanging out and wagging her tail. As much as Kyo hated the idea, it really was a lot warmer than living in a cave with no fire. Kyo looked towards his massive wolf companion only for a small man to enter, throwing a dead foul at the creature only for it to quickly down the entire bird, throwing another directly after it. Poor Bob's job was to pick up the waste left behind whether inside of the manor or outside. It was either pick up Dakota's massive waste or get killed by Kyo after the previous masters were 'evicted' from the premises. Kyo told Bob to keep the place clean and walked out the door with Dakota.

The cold didn't bother Kyo as the two of them walked through the village. This cold had nothing compared to the blistering weather upon the Spine of the World and there, he wore even less. Their breath left clouds in the cool morning air. He had to go into work. Not many times does he actually get to go into the secret base, but today was one of those days. The two of them entered the facility for the cold to quickly go away and the frost to thaw off of their bodies. Dakota shook her body, spraying melted ice all over the place before Kyo eyeballed the animal. He had to meet someone at the appointed location within the base and like clockwork, Kyo encountered a man that seemed to be waiting. The duo made their way towards the man, stopping within 5 arm's lengths from him and tilted his head, crossing his arms as he waited for the man to begin. Introductions weren't necessarily, unless he asked for them, as Kyo didn't particularly care who this man was. He cared more for gaining rank so he could do more strenuous and risky missions. The riskier the mission means the more people he could potentially kill. Both he and Dakota would like that.|

It didn't take much waiting before the sounds of footsteps could be heard down the hall. It sounded like a man and a large animal judging by the pattering of paws on the hard ground of the hallway. Judging entities based on their sounds was something Miraku had put plenty of effort into and had come in handy quite often. Although today wasn't exactly one of those days with them being inside of Kumogakure's ANBU base where there would be no reason to suspect anything crazy to happen. Even still, Miraku maintained his awareness, keeping vigilant for such strange cases which could, however unlikely, occur. It certainly seemed odd to him that he would hear two beings approaching, but it wasn't unheard of for a shinobi to have an animal companion. Taking in one last deep breath as he could tell they were about to enter, he released it, trying to ready himself for dealing with whatever was to come.

As he sat in his chair, the door swung open before him, and in stepped a man who seemed as old or possibly older than himself. It was hard to tell due to the way this trainee presented himself. But with him was what appeared to be an extremely large wolf. It caught Miraku a bit off guard to see such a large beast working with a shinobi, but certainly, it would be an asset while out on missions to have such a dangerous creature accompanying you. The man himself looked quite weathered and disheveled, but he seemed quite serious as he looked towards Miraku, crossing his arms, apparently waiting for him to get up and begin. Deciding to get pleasantries over with first, Miraku stood up from his seat, taking a few steps towards the pair, holding a straight face as he looked towards the man for now. "Alright, well. I'm Miraku, and I'm going to be your instructor today." he told the trainee. He wondered how the young man would respond; whether he'd introduce himself as well or not. Although he had been told the trainee's name when given the assignment, he was curious to see if he would be returned the same courtesy, he also wasn't given any information about the wolf or its name, which he was also interested in.

Afterwards, he would walk past the two and raise his arms, gesturing to the room full of buildings, his back to them before speaking once more. "Today we'll be working on how to get yourself in and out of whatever building your target is in, and getting yourself out cleanly. Essentially, infiltration and exfiltration." He told them, walking forward a few more steps before turning around to them and continuing to take a few more steps backwards before coming to a stop. "So first, I want to hear what you know about the subject and what you think it entails?" he posed to the trainee, wanting to get a feel for what he knew, and seeing what exactly he could teach him. Surely having an animal companion would mean he had some ferality to him. He was probably a good hunter, and probably knew how to stalk and get to his prey quickly and silently, but it was certainly more complicated when it came to the kind of targets ANBU were meant to assassinate.

[col]The man finally got up to introduce himself as Miraku. Kyo lowered his hands and hooked a thumb to his chest. "Kyo," he said confidently before turning his thumb over his shoulder towards the great white wolf behind him. The wolf's eyes were piercing, being the second-most prominent part of the wolf. The other would be the burning disc upon it's back which hovered strangely and enigmatically. Even Kyo has no idea about the weird disc that floated over his friend's body. It just suddenly appeared one day and Kyo didn't have any real good answer for it. "Dakota." His words were crisp and to the point. His voice had a bit of an accent to it, one that didn't seem to come from anywhere in particular. His ability to speak the common language is still being worked out. Not many other people to talk to in the wilds, after all.

As Miraku walked passed the two, they kept their eyes on the man until they were forced to either move their heads or even their bodies altogether. Never, once, would they let the man out of their sights. The man seemed confident in his abilities to allow others to see his back like this. Perhaps this ANBU was one of great power. Either that or he was a foolish man, but Kyo wasn't here to make enemies; he was here to become a well-oiled machine--an efficient killer. Dakota circled around Kyo and took her position back to directly behind him and to his right. Of this pack, Kyo is obviously the alpha. He was the most domineering one of the pack of 4 and always took the lead in a reckless manner.

Today's objective is infiltration and clean exfiltration, hm? Kyo would rather break in through a building using brute force and kill everyone in his path, but sometimes one has to do things a bit more discretely without resorting to complete and total violence. This cloak and dagger stuff really wasn't Kyo's style, but if it makes him a better assassin, he will listen, observe, and learn. He tilted his head at the instructor for a moment. "I would normally bust down the front door and kill everyone in sight. Innocent or not unless my objective is in the room. But I suppose part of this will involve more precise entering, huh?" Kyo said with a bit of dismay. He shrugged his shoulders and just went off of what he thought the ANBU would want to hear.

"I guess you do some snooping around to see how many are in the building first before pushing in. Maybe use some form of stun on them before clearing out the room, watching out for any non-combatants," he said. He wasn't familiar with the militarized tactics and only parroted what he saw in books. Couldn't read them worth a damn, but he could tell by the pictures displayed. Normally, he'd be able to sniff out how many people were in there, but that's about the extent of the information he would get with his nose. He wouldn't know anyone's strength or even if, in the case of a hostage situation, if the hostage was among that group. He didn't really know the answer and figured the instructor would guide him on how to do so properly and with the scenario that will unfold.

Dakota shifted a little bit and gave out a throaty groan. She was growing impatient. The two of them have infiltrated many places, but never with any finesse. One of the main reasons the two suffer from several scars and battle wounds. Perhaps it was high time for them to learn how to do it the proper way. One of these days, if they continue on doing it the way they are doing, they will get killed. That's not quite what Kyo had on his agenda for a while. Sure, dying in a battle would be an honor for many (Kyo included), but now isn't the time to do that. Not when he's still so young. Yes, he's 18 and he looks like an old man. Blame his bad habits.|

Judging by the way he had introduced himself, it seemed Kyo wasn't a man of many words. He kept it short and sweet, so Miraku was slightly surprised when he began speaking about his thoughts on entering a targets dwelling. The way he spoke was definitely different than that of an average Kumogakurian, or even of people from other countries. Almost like he had to figure out how to speak on his own, having no help with pronunciations or anything, unable to hear how others heard him due to the way the human voice carried to one's own ears. From what he said, it seemed like this trainee was one who preferred brute force. A kill first, ask questions later kind of guy. And although that may have worked in some scenarios, it worried Miraku about Kyo's ability to carry out proper ANBU jobs. Before he could respond, the young man began to speak further, trying to give what seemed like his best guess at what Miraku was planning to teach. He seemed to be able to think of the general premise and had the ability to understand sometimes they would want to let civilians live. Although Miraku wasn't sure he believed that was how Kyo wanted to act things out.

Watching the two for but a moment to make sure the man was done speaking, he watched as the large wolf seemed to want to get things started; not one for waiting around it would seem. "Well, you're partially right with that second part. As an ANBU, we wear masks and keep our identities secret to those outside for a reason. Because of this, a lot of times we are used for missions in which the village wants nothing to lead back to them. Hence, stealth and planning are important." Miraku started, wanting to get the idea across so that he would understand the reasoning before learning what to do. "The first thing you want to do is learn about your target, what kind of person they are; if they are weak or strong, if they are rich or poor, any information you can ascertain. It will help you to know things like how a weak target that is also rich will probably have protection, while a strong target will probably be on his own and easily approachable. And whatever else you might be able to figure out about them. Once you have that knowledge you can make decisions on how you want to handle it, such as finding out where they are, who else is around and needs to be dealt with, and how to do it without being spotted or getting yourself into too much trouble. Miraku finished, walking backward another two steps

"So today, I've set up this false little town with some targets which have been infused with chakra of different amounts to give you a feel for their strength if you gague the difference between people. Your job will be to figure out the best plan of attack for yourself and Dakota, scout the place a bit, get a feel for how you're going to do this. Then you'll come back and tell me what you are thinking." He wanted to get a feel for how Kyo and Dakota would handle this, without going too quickly, forcing Kyo to think a bit more about this, giving him only small steps to start with. "Your target today is an older man who had made a fortune with his business. He lives in the largest building in town, with no family. The village has supplied you a piece of clothing he left behind while staying in Kumo recently to do with what you will." Miraku hoped the trainee would be able to come up with a plan, and figure out what do to.

-----

Setting: There are 5 buildings. One large one in the middle and four smaller ones around it. Two of the houses have 4 people inside with small amounts of chakra and are clothed like poor people. Another house only has one person inside with a fire going, cooking food. The third house has two people inside with stronger chakra, wearing armour and holding weapons. The main building has 5 people inside. One in a large room near the top by himself with a small chakra signature matching the clothes, and scent of the shirt you obtained. Outside the door of that room are two men who seem stronger, holding weapons, and two more downstairs, one with a weapon, the other in a kitchen. All of this could be seen through windows or possibly sensed in other ways. Feel free to be creative with your information gathering and planning.

[col]The man began his lecture about learning about your opponents; stuff that Kyo already knew about. He wasn't going to go into a fight against an entire army with advanced ranged weaponry. Going in like that would be absolute suicide. Intelligence about the target, an older man with a high income was the target. An article of the man's clothing was given to him, causing Kyo to smell the clothes for a moment and then handing it over to Dakota to let her take a whiff of the clothes. The stench was strong enough for them to track. Kyo placed the clothing into his pouch to mask the smell as best he could before getting his objective. His first objective was to scout the town and find a good angle of attack. That should be simple enough. After-all, these are inanimate objects and not people. Though, Kyo might have an easier time judging a person's actions that is walking around and watching their mannerisms, static objects shouldn't make it too hard.

Kyo nudged the wolf and spoke into her ear. "Remember looking for the Steppe Hedgehogs? We're doing something like that," Kyo said, recalling a time when the two had to covertly chase after a creature known as a Steppe Hedgehog. This creature wasn't a hedgehog but was something a lot more gruesome in appearance. Something that required stealth and cunning. Harkening back on that experience made this much easier for Kyo and Dakota to associate with and to put into practice. The two had a lot of experience in the field with all kinds of hunting and ambushing, but people were a different animal. They were much smarter and had more cunning which made tracking them and getting the jump on them much more difficult. It also didn't help that some people were just much more paranoid than others.

Without saying a word, he took off like a thunderbolt through the mock-up town. There were a total of 5 buildings. It was quite obvious where the old, rich man was residing. The largest building in the center. Kyo and Dakota pretended this was the real thing and went through the motions. The duo approached one house, pressing their backs against the wall near the back of the house. The scent of food could be detected from their over-sensitive noses. He doesn't know whether or not the person inside is a good guy or a bad-guy. Their nose detected only a single person. Tapping on Dakota's shoulders, he pointed at one of the other houses and as quickly and quietly as she could, she rushed off to the other house. Kyo found his way to one of the windows and quietly tried to open the window just to peak in to see who was doing the cooking. Nope. Just another dude.

Afterward, he crept over to the house he sent Dakota to. Here, he smelled two rather poor smelling people. Yes, poor people would probably have a smell due to the lack of showering/perfume/etc. He shook his head and also did this at the next building and then the two moved on to the 3rd building.
He silently told Dakota to wait. These ones smell very different. Kyo moved his nose in towards the door and sniffed it. The smell of 2 different people could be detected and even the faint smell of metal. Kyo made hand gestures to show that there are 2 people with weapons in there. He placed a finger over his lips and pointed towards the final house, the big one.

Once approaching the big house, Kyo noticed 2 people downstairs, but his nose tells him there were more. The two of them dug their claws into the building and started to climb up, sensing the smell of their target at the top floor. The scent coming from that dummy was very similar to the clothes given to him. Kyo looked to Dakota and pointed up at the balcony before making the 'throat slit' hand gesture. While they were still underneath the balcony, they noticed a window beside them and from there, Kyo saw two people also heavily armed. With a thumbs up, Kyo and Dakota jumped down and casually walked over towards the instructor.

Kyo pointed at the house with the poor folk. "Poor people," he said as he pointed to one house and again at another house and then his hand landed on the house with the food. "He's eating leather," commenting on the overcooked meat in the man's house. "Two bad guys," he said pointing at the other house and then pointed at the big building. "Target up top, 4 in house"|

Miraku stood and watched as Kyo interacted with Dakota, getting themselves ready before jumping into this. They gave it a stealthy approach, moving silently towards the houses. Walking silently in the shadows that were cast in the room due to the dim lighting making it feel like dusk inside currently, he kept a close eye on them, watching their every move. They took their time, using what they had to figure out who was a threat and who wasn't, at least based on their best judgments. They checked all the buildings one by one until finally coming to the large building, which they obviously assumed the target resided within, getting a lay of the land before jumping straight to their goal. It was certainly interesting to see the way they climbed the building to get to the top floor to see more inside due to its height limiting their ability to judge everything inside. Once they finished they walked back towards him to tell him what they had found. Watching them walk back casually, he held back a chuckle, seeing the switch from stealthy so quickly, knowing it was only because this was training and not a real situation.

As they returned, Kyo began pointing at each house and explaining what he found, in very simple terms; holding back another laugh at the leather comment. He seemed to have the right ideas, at least based on how Miraku had set up the simulation. "Good. But now you need to decide if it's the right time to make your assault. Trying to assess the other enemies, whether it's better to wait for them to hopefully leave, or whether you think they won't, or if the fact that he's in the room by himself makes it a prime opportunity to get him without anyone seeing." He continued speaking, as he looked at both of them, wondering if they really cared about the lesson or not. It wasn't always fun to learn the way ANBU operated, but it was necessary for anyone joining them. "Now, the village wants this man assassinated without anyone knowing who did it, with as minimal casualties as possible." he continued, explaining the type of kill this would be, and leaving it slightly open-ended for them to make their own judgment on how to get the kill and how to get out of there. "I'll be watching and judging from different spots during this, and I'll let you know how it went afterward." he left them with his final words, leaving it up to them to decide how they wanted to do this.

[col]If Kyo was dealing with people, he'd have watched their behaviors for much longer than he did just now. He would take days, if not weeks, to stalk this prey to watch their behaviors and patterns. To know when the best time to strike was and to learn when their shift changes were. If the target had regular bowel movements at certain times of day or when the man would go bathe. As disgusting as it might be, a person is most vulnerable when they are in the bathroom whether taking care of business or cleaning themselves. It would normally be at this point that Kyo would attempt to strike. The only problem there is if he had people guarding the door which would make things all the more annoying to deal with. However, being out in the open also presents it's own variety of complications and easiness.

Kyo placed a hand upon his hip and tilted his head to the side. "Minimum casualties, huh?" he said as disappointment was obviously apparent in his eyes. "Fine. Be right back," he said with an exasperated sigh before he called for Dakota to follow. He knew to stay away from the building involving the cooking of food as people's eyes generally gravitate towards the smell of food and to stay away from the house with the armed men. So he made his way between the apparently poor individuals, sticking to the walls by their house and quickly moving towards the main, big house. Upon reaching the main house, he sniffed the air and the scent of the target was still upon the top balcony of the building.
Using this opportunity, Kyo and Dakota dug their claws into the wall of the building and started scaling their way upward.

They scaled their way up until they found themselves on the roof of the house. Each step taking on the roof was deliberate with no wasted movement, not trying to make a single noise. Kyo and Dakota moved into position where they could see the target from the roof and took a step back. Kyo moved into a squatted position and formed a series of handseals. He summoned a whip of water in his left hand and reached into his pouch with his right, throwing a smokebomb at the feet of the dummy and lashing out with the water whip at the same time, creating a ton of smoke with the bomb to obscure vision and ensnare the target at the same time to bring the target up to him. It was then that Dakota grabbed the target into her mouth and destroyed the dummy near instantly, spitting out the remains. With another smoke-bomb thrown at their own feet, the two made their escape.

Kyo and Dakota appeared back where the instructor was and let out a yawn. "Yeah, that should do it," he said confidently.|

Watching as Kyo and Dakota headed off. After a few moments, Miraku took off as well. Heading through the area in stealth, attempting to keep himself hidden enough as to not interfere with their actions, but still being able to watch what they did as they did it. His eyes followed as they quickly moved to the civilian housing where they would be less suspected, and harder to be noticed with their movements. It was obvious they had a decent knack for hunting, but the rest was still to be seen. Darting from the small house to the targets home, they quickly made their way to the wall, making sure they could still see if their target was there before climbing up themselves. Sneakily they climbed to the top without falling in anyone's line of sight, which was quite well executed before taking a position up on the roof. Miraku was curious what they planned to do from there, and their method for getting inside quietly. Suddenly, Kyo began to form handseals as water appeared around his hand, his other reaching for his pouch and throwing a smoke bomb down into the area where the target sat. Quickly his room filled with smoke, the sound obvious, as smoke began to pour out under the door to the room he was in, as the water reached down as well and snatched the dummy, pulling it up onto the roof. As Miraku was able to tell what was going on, he quickly made his move into a window, landing on the top floor, looking down the hall at the two guard dummies, picturing in his mind how it would have all played out for his judgment. Popping back outside quickly, he watched Kyo throw one more smoke bomb in an attempt to cover their escape but needing to climb down or jump away, their cover couldn't be kept completely. Finishing his thoughts, Miraku quickly ran back to where he had started originally, having a slight lead, returning first.

The young man seemed bored, yawning as he spoke with confidence that he had done well. Miraku watched him silently for a moment before beginning to speak, "Well, it certainly wasn't bad. You had a very good approach, your scouting was good, and your ideas with the smoke bombs were quite useful, though there were definitely some issues and some things that could help you further. Firstly, there is a jutsu which ANBU can be taught called 'Chakra Sense' which would have been quite useful for you understanding your target's position, especially because of the piece of clothing you had. Though the use of your sense of smell works quite well also, it would just improve your accuracy further. Although the smoke bomb was well used, the guards outside would hear it's release immediately from outside the door, and alert everyone else. This alert would have meant guards outside watching your escape, or even possibly your kill. But your use of the water whip to remove your target from their environment after exposing your attack with the smoke bomb was good planning. Possibly body switching with a clone or target placed somewhere earlier to get out of your second smoke bomb could also improve your escape." He listed off the positives and negative that he could think of off the top of his head. "Overall, I'd say you did pretty well, probably above average, but hopefully this gives you some things to think about, and you at least learned something." he finished, as I walked past them heading towards the door, turning around to face them. "That'll be it for today though, but maybe I'll see you around here some more. If you have any questions after thinking about today in the future, let me know." he added as he began walking to the door to take his leave for the day.

[col]Now it was time for his review. He kept his hands crossed over his chest as the man started to explain to him how he could've done it better. Kyo sucked air between his teeth as he thought his plan was done well enough. But if this man in front of him was a well trained assassin, then his words should carry quite a bit of weight. The man continued to rattle off the positives and negatives; some he agreed with while the other clashed with how he wanted to carry things out. He sucked more air between his teeth and shrugged his shoulders. "Fine," he simply said. The look in his eyes was plainly evident that he wasn't thrilled with the assessment, but it's something he can strive for.

The man then took his leave and Kyo kept what he said in mind. With a little grumble, Kyo unfolded his arms and ran his hands through his hair. He turned to look towards the large wolf and pet her with a big smile upon his face. "You did good, Dakota. You ate that dummy right up," he said before turning his head from side to side, causing his neck to crack. "Guess I'll have to eat someone and take their stealthy approach from them then," he said before shrugging his shoulders once more. His stomach growled and him and Dakota left the ANBU complex in search for something to eat.|
