Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

You have answered Sunagakure's summons, "arrive at the Ranger Tracking Grounds Main Office at 10 o'clock in the morning for your assessment." The note was vague but addressed to you in the same typed script. It did not even mention what or why you were being assessed. It was likely that you considered the reason why, you expressed interest in participating in the World martial Arts Tournament next year but the message and the messenger seemed to have few words of advice or encouragement to share. Of course, it would be cheating or unfair for someone to give a potential fighter the advantage in a fight, in this study every shinobi served as a control. There were personal favorites under consideration but if they could not blaze their own way then they would never make it to the tournament.

A relative unknown, members of the Bishomon project have become interested in what you can do. A puppet user is indeed rare. Someone willing to augment themselves or others to meet and ends. Science would one day become the new magic through people like you. They wanted to see what you could do.

The Tracking Grounds was a Ranger-only center that took up several acres of land. It was an impressive, albeit plain-looking structure with a dome shape and an earth-colored hue. The tracking grounds themselves were open to shinobis in good standing with Sunagakure for the purposes of training but thus far they were underutilized. Since Shouki's final stand in this very center, the Tracking Grounds has been closed while the Ranger's headquarter's security was being reviewed. Presently closed to the public unless one has a specific invitation, you would be among the first shinobi to enter this structure in months.

The entrance would be simple, guarded by a pair of well-armed and intimidating men. Both looked more like the sort of men that would grapple a bull, beat it and then eat it raw for their morning meal. Their eyes would flash a moment of recognition, yes they knew you were coming and what you looked like, with a grunt and a nod they would allow you entry. Of course, if someone was foolhardy enough to disrespect them, the door would slam closed and you would be faced with combat before you even reached the training ground. Yes, you were probably 'stronger' than them, despite their intimidating presence because if they were indeed more capable it would be them answering this invitation and not you.

The entrance would lead to a long, narrow hall. The walls were made of some sort of metal. It would be Takahashi Steel. On either side there was also a thick wall of glass that separated their reinforcement beams. To the right, through the glass you would see a wooded area. Many Sunans have never seen such a dense growth of vegetation except perhaps in pictures and books. You would not be able to hear anything through the glass but every one in awhile you would think that you might have seen something, a glint of an eye or a bit of fur. Grass was limited but there was mossy, slick-appearing terrain and thorny bushes. To the left, a frozen wasteland that might remind some of Kirigakure. This is a place of perpetual cold, the area is nothing but rocks and ice and the elements alone are enough to risk one's life. Both quite disparate from what you are used to. The shade and the greenery versus the absence of warmth entirely. If you press your hand against the glass of the frozen tundra you would feel the chill, it would be almost painful. Strange.

This place was one of the things that made the Ranger's unique, they were trained hunters. They spent their idle time preparing as survivalists and they did not hunt "small game." Rangers were one of the few that actively sought dangerous S-Class beasts as well as creatures and monsters of dubious origin. In truth, Rangers were the Monster Hunters of Wind Country but they did too good of a job. With a lack of dangerous game, need for the Rangers as a whole diminished until the Rangers finally dispersed as a unit entirely. Their way lost and forgotten by most as families moved on. There were a few, a mere sprinkling here and there that still knew the old ways. That was how this structure was erected but Rangers are notoriously fickle and that particular Ranger had not been seen in some time. Some have come to believe that she was lost or killed while seeking game, it was a common cause of death for Rangers who live short and brutal lives.

This hallway would prove to be quite long, in fact you would walk for over a mile before you would reach your destination -- a door. No, not THE DOOR, simply a door. It would be unlocked and you would leave the glass encased hallway and enter an office. The office would be neat and rather small given the distance you traveled to reach this central hub. There would be a desk and a man sitting behind the desk, one could only assume that he was a Ranger. He would not address, you rather a young woman who would take a few steps towards you as you entered the room. She was dressed like a fifteen year old gothic boy, not a representative for one of the largest tournaments in the world. There was a simple reason for this -- she did not represent the tournament, she represented Sunagakure's interests.

"Are you Oda Yatamaru?"

She would wait for you to confirm who you were. Behind her you might notice a pair of Medics with a stretcher, one announcing to the other that 'we nearly lost that one... geesh, this kid was insane,' one of the Medics mused shaking his head as he lifted his side of the stretcher. 'Yeah, but he looks as tough as nails, this kid is scary,' the second commented. 'Well, we better get going with this one, no telling what the next one is going to look like.' The second would hoist up his end of the stretcher with a somber nod and they would prepare to depart from the room through a door opened for them by the gothic young woman. It was not the same door you entered.

"Excellent, sign here." She would have you a scroll. Once unfurled it would be a liability statement claiming that you are aware and affirm that you are about to enter into a dangerous situation. That death, disfigurement and even potential disability may result from participation. "I am sure they filled you in," she would announce while she waited for your signature. "Of course they wouldn't, would they?" She sighed, the project was not public yet. Well, she better explain. "You are about to enter a simulated combat experience unlike anything you have ever seen before. This will assess you in a 'safe'"</B><i></i> she made quotation marks with her fingers "...environment. You will still suffer the damage of powerful attacks, determined by the setting dial on the machine. I have you and the others set for Level 8. Yes, there are higher levels but those are intended for group combat experience and we felt that it would be unnecessary." She would press a button on the Ranger's desk and the walls would open up. There would be several doors, well more specifically 5. Each would be labeled simply: desert, grassland, forest, tundra, water.

"Pick a biome and enter when you are ready. We have added security measures to the door. Returning will be difficult to say the least. you have thirty seconds to return through the door. Do your best." She would give him an encouraging smile and a thumbs up. As he enters she would add an additional query, "Do you have any next of kin, medical issues, excreta that I will need to be aware of when I---" The door would slam between you an her, trapping you inside whichever biome you have chosen to enter. She gave you the instructions -- you have 30 seconds to return through the door you just left. It sounds simple, but it truly is not. The door would hum to life, hidden gears would start to whirl as an unknown power-source empowered the massive mechanical structure.

It was go time!

  • You are NOT in combat on your first post. You will be in combat in your second post.
  • The doors actions will be randomly determined using a roll chart so there is no way for you to know what they will do, but THE DOOR is not to be taken lightly. It has stats that exceed that of the average S Rank player.
  • You will not know the Doors' stats or HP totals but you will know what percent THE DOOR has left.
  • This is a no-kill mini event. Roleplay, I will be seeking compensation (in terms of Solo Modded Mission rewards) for those that participate. This means that you will need to complete the requirements in terms of posts and word count.
  • Each round is 10 seconds, meaning you will need to survive 3 modded rounds or defeat the door within those three rounds.
  • You can RP a reply at any time.
  • You can send your stats and information now or when the mod is called in the next post.
  • This follows all the ROE.

What the hell are they giving me looks for? Glug, glug. Puff, puff. It's not like I'm asking them to match me or anything.

Whiskey and smokes was Yatamaru's favorite breakfast, though he seemed to be in the minority on this one. As he combed through the streets of his subterranean home, disgusted scowls and disappointed head shaking followed him everywhere he went. He barely seemed to notice, too busy focusing on the task ahead of him to care what others cared about. A mysterious message, arriving mysteriously with no indication of who within the government was running this test, and describing a mysterious test that had never been revealed before, had arrived for him the previous evening — how mysterious! He'd had no time to prepare, which was probably exactly what they wanted. They didn't even include any basic info! Absolutely nothing. It appeared the governing body of Sunagakure wanted only the best of the best, able to fight and represent their country even under the worst possible conditions — suffice to say, Yatamaru was a bit proud and nervous at the same time. Did I say 'a bit?' I think 'a lot' might be more appropriate. A lot of both!

He did the only thing he could that night: he toiled ceaselessly. He'd had an idea for a puppet lying dormant, deep inside his brain, and hadn't had a chance to really put his sword to the grindstone. Mother Suna, this must be a sign! The inspiration that I need, right when my need is greatest. Oh yeah, this will do nicely. For hours, and hours, he toiled deep into the night. It's not as if he needed to sleep; besides, this was far more beneficial to him than any other sort of preparation could be. The more puppets he had to work with, the better his chances would be. This one will do nicely to enhance my Ninjutsu. I was kind of pegging that skill set next for training, but this kind of upgrade will do nicely as well. The device retrofitted into this puppet was an oddity, a weird brain child of Yatamaru's that was developed somewhere in between fifteen and twenty shots the other week. This puppet would be able to alter the perception of time — it was a crude form, for now, but he planned to refine the technique as time went on. This assessment will make a great prototype run, too. With this addition to his arsenal, he'd be able to really mess with his opponent's heads. They won't see me coming. Not me, not my puppets, not even my attacks. They'll have no idea what hit them. As the sun rose, Yatamaru knew his time was almost up. His nerves started to act up again as he prepared the rest of his things, rapidly rising as he left his apartment.

The only instructions he'd received were to show up at the Ranger's Tracking Grounds at 10:00. Nothing more, nothing less. They didn't say anything about showing up early, though. Currently he had a half-hour to kill and half a flask of whiskey left — twenty minutes later, he didn't even have that. Barely buzzed, too. Mother Suna, help me to calm these nerves! Even chain smoking his cigarettes wasn't helping. When the time had come for his assessment, he wasn't ready.

If I'm not ready now, I guess I never will be. Stamping out the last cigarette that he'd brought with him, the puppeteer stepped forward to meet his fate. He took one last dusty breath of air, more to calm himself than to actually get a breath. He didn't know what they had in store for him, but he knew he'd do his absolute best. Bring it on, Sunagakure. Do your worst.

He walked up to the entrance at 09:59, barely regarding the two behemoths who blocked his entrance until the minute had passed. To him, they didn't matter. To them, he didn't matter. So long as there was no trouble, all was well. All that matters right now is the assessment. He entered the facility, one of the first in months since the attack by Shouki. He had no idea what to expect, as his allegiance lay with the hammer of industry — the Journeymen. Whatever it was that he was expecting, it most certainly wasn't this. What the hell? They have a whole forest in here?! Not only that, but a frozen tundra as well?! They actually had five biomes, but he didn't know that yet. Stepping inside the metal and glass room, he felt the cool and calculated feel of a well oiled machine. They may have wilderness here, but it seems to be a controlled environment. That begs the question, who's controlling it? He'd have plenty of time to ponder while he walked down the hallway. It's not like there was anywhere else he could go.

The long, glass hallway was truly a sight to behold. On either side, an alien landscape stretched as far as the eye could see. He'd seen both types of terrain before, in his many ANBU missions that brought him out of the country, but never this close to home. It was unsettling, and amazing. His thoughts wandered far from his body, out past the small confines of the endless hallway. He ran his fingers along the glass, trying to make sure it wasn't a portal to somewhere else in the world. Some part of him thought maybe it was all an elaborate Genjutsu; when his fingers brushed against the glass, he knew it wasn't. This is all really here. I have to hand it to the Rangers, they have a pretty sweet base. By the time he reached the end of the hallway, he felt he'd truly seen something amazing. I might have to come back to train here one day. However, nothing could have prepared him for what laid on the other side of the door...

Oh my god. She's gorgeous. Yes, Yatamaru was stricken by the pink-haired goth girl proctor. What can I say? I have a type.

Was he Oda Yatamaru? "I dunno. Are you a catcher or a pitcher? Honestly, I could go either way." He gave her a wink, not even paying attention to the medics escorting someone out of the area — he was completely infatuated with this girl. He made sure to brush his hand against hers when she passed him the scroll to sign, knowing full well that establishing human contact was imperative to intimacy building. He couldn't help but think of things that way, but that didn't make the intention less genuine. "No, they didn't. But, if you're free later, I'd love for you to fill me instead. Or I, you." His smirk may have been subtle, but his flirtatious attitude was certainly not. He heard her speak, and understood the words, but could think of nothing besides her. And what I want her to do to me...

When the five doors opened at once, he seemed to snap out of his trance and tune back into reality. "I'm sorry, what? Did you say I'm fighting a door?" Her serious expression was all the reassurance he needed. What will they think of next? But, this meant his time was short. Once he walked out through to his assessment, there was no going back. He grabbed her hands, the pink haired vixen who had stolen his heart, and he suddenly felt a little sad. "This may be the last chance I get to see you again. I just want you to know," he paused, no doubt to build up the courage to say something deeply emotional. I know we've just met, but I really need to tell her this. I feel like if I don't, I'll lose her forever. He took in a deep breath, steeling himself. "I get the feeling you swing the other way, and I just want you to know I can roll with that. You give me two days, and I can be whoever you want. You see this?" With his right hand, he pulled off his left. Inside was a hollow shell, a clear indication of his artificially made body. Reattaching his hand, he continued. "I come with a few spare parts, if you catch my drift." He squeezed her hands, gently and tenderly. "Think about it."

With that, he chose to enter the icy tundra. While it might be a hindrance to most, Yatamaru felt neither heat nor cold. He was immune to freezing — besides, the cold would help to chill his enraged passion. This fight is for her.

He turned to face his enemy: the D.O.O.R. was an impressive sight to behold, powered by an unknown energy source with an unknown design. Was he impressed by the behemoth in front of him? Yes. Was he afraid of what it might be capable of? Yeah, it seems pretty intimidating. Did he really think that he had any sort of chance, whatsoever, in fending off such a monstrosity? Eh, who knows? Guess we'll just have to see...

Mother Suna might have heard your prayers but she did nothing to aid you.

The message was vague and just as Oda thought, it was intended to be this way. There was no way of knowing who or rather what you were going to face at the World Martial Arts Tournament and there was no way that Sunagakure was going to share what you needed to do for an assessment. In fact the letter did not even state that you were being assessed at all. Perhaps you were just being summoned for an unrelated matter, making your overnight efforts unnecessary. They would still prove useful and important if you were indeed a shinobi and not a chain smoking drunk. Even if you were, that was not what Sunagakure saw or at the very least what they thought of you. They saw a tinkerer. A creator. A mind that if given ample oppertunity and a means might be of value. There was a lot more at work here than a friendly competition.

So you arrived with a minute to spare. The massive guardians moved to the side and allowed you entry. They did not ask for any identification, they already knew who you are and with a nod and a grunt you were in. The hallway would be longer than one would expect, it was more than a short jaunt down that protracted passageway. On either side, however would be awe-inspiring. Many Sunans had never seen a dense thicket of trees or snow their entire lives and through those windows on either side of you just now you would see both. Places like this did not exist naturally, you would know that but it was also a display of wealth as well as incredible intellect and modern invention. Well, that would be what many would think but that was not the case at all, these grounds actually came from very old technology. Hunters have existed since the first days of mankind in Wind Country - they hunted to survive and they taught their young how to survive so that they could hunt. This setting was created through very old methods. Yes, there were some modern twists such as this office, yes the very one that you entered as well as the showy passageway that displayed their achievement. There was a hint of hubris in this setting, this display of their efforts. Pride could be a dangerous thing but what creator is without pride?

You would find the terminal point of that long, peaceful passageway some distance from where you entered. You would be late by the time you arrived but in some ways it would appear that you were just in time. They were still stabilizing the last one it would appear, at least whatever was left to them. The girl did not seem overly concerned about their welfare. Better late than never. She announced his name, Oda Yatamaru was next on the list. Notes written in the margin to describe him were smoker, drunk, tinkerer and tool.

"I dunno. Are you a catcher or a pitcher? Honestly, I could go either way."

"Shortstop," she replied. Guess the notes were wrong, you were a baseball player. The actual reference went over her head entirely. She handed you a scroll, it was a release from responsibility waiver. One that she was expected to have signed by each participant for whatever reason. It was somewhat troublesome.

"No, they didn't. But, if you're free later, I'd love for you to fill me instead. Or I, you."

"No problem, I intended on filling you in." She explained the basic concept, it was easy enough in concept. You just needed to enter one of these doors and then he needed to simply.... walk out in the next 30 seconds. Sounded easy. Disappointingly easy. Of course those that thought that could not be more wrong.

"I'm sorry, what? Did you say I'm fighting a door?"

"Yep," she affirmed. "Any of these doors." You had five choices -- all obviously different biomes. "Considering your familiarity with the terrain I would suggest the desert biome. Regardless of your choice, however I should warn you once again that you will likely have to be carried out." She warned you again, baseball players were not generally combat oriented. Perhaps this was not the best place for a pitcher or a catcher.

She checked her watch, they were running a bit behind. Yatamaru had one more thing to say it would appear.

"This may be the last chance I get to see you again. I just want you to know,"

She looked down at your hands, confused. "There is no dishonor in backing out," she replied. Several had done the same, most of them once they recognized the maker of the passageway or its association with the Bishamonten Project. "Or if you needed to notify your next of kin," come to think of it she never got that info for the last several testers. Their loved ones would figure it out eventually.

"I get the feeling you swing the other way, and I just want you to know I can roll with that. You give me two days, and I can be whoever you want. You see this?"

Wait, what? Her eyes widened. She was confused. Are they still talking about baseball?

"I come with a few spare parts, if you catch my drift."

With your right hand, you pulled off your left. "Ooooohhhh...." That is what he meant. Her face turned several shades of crimson.

"Think about it."

She had nothing to say because she forgot the words: that could work.

You entered the Tundra.

The door would slam behind you and as you did you would hear her start to say something as she had found your voice. "Wait! Let me reduce the settings!" Alas, it was too late, the door was already closed and would would only see a flash of pink as the girl frantically reached for the door. "Dammit, that could work!" Yes, there was a mic built into the door. "What do you mean I am locked out!" *BANG*

You are probably the first and the last person to pick the tundra. It was cold here. The ground was rock solid. As your boots stepped on the icy terrain you would leave no footprints. A bitter breeze would blow over you, leaving a film of frost already over your body. Good thing you cannot feel, right? Look up and you would see a sky, it was dark despite it being daytime. It looked as if it wanted to storm but it was too cold for snowfall. The wicked sky itself would be roiling, black clouds bubbling over like an endless stream. Yet it was not pitch black, merely shaded. If you looked in any direction besides the door you would see nothing but ice and snow. Not a living creature seemed to dwell here less you which begs to question -- are you alive?

The door hummed to life.

On the mic you could hear "Ohshit!Ohshit!Ohshit!"

Round One Actions:
  • Passively auto-equip "mai bod" for 0 AP.
  • Set Cylinder of Magic using "mai bod" for 1 AP and 550 CP. Because it is a Defensive Puppet, the trap is modded as being set instantly.
  • Draw "the itsy bitsy spider" for 0 AP due to Quickdraw ability. Because this is a Hitokugutsu puppet, it may automatically be equipped with "spider gloves" at no cost. "spider gloves" are automatically coated with the Iron Vein poison as per Strategist Slot 1. ("mai bod" passively un-equips)
  • Draw "fauna" for 0 AP.
  • Draw "merryweather" for 0 AP.
  • Cast 16-Hit Combo on Door, using the "spider gloves," for 2.25 AP and 680 CP. Due to the Great Weapon augment, partial hits retain the chance to inflict status effects. Due to the Blitz augment, this attack is modded as -0.5 AP faster.
  • Un-equip "spider gloves" from "the itsy bitsy spider" for 0 AP, due to Quickdraw.
  • Draw "spider gloves (alt)" onto "the itsy bitsy spider" for 0 AP. "spider gloves" are automatically coated with the Serpent's Blood poison as per Strategist Slot 2.
  • Cast 16-Hit Combo on Door, using the "spider gloves (alt)," for 2.25 AP and 680 CP. Due to the Great Weapon augment, partial hits retain the chance to inflict status effects. Due to the Blitz augment, this attack is modded as -0.5 AP faster.
  • Cast Exhaust Pipes with Searing Mist on Door, using "merryweather," for 1.5 AP and 340 CP. Using Poison DC.
  • Cast Puppet Symbiosis on "the doctor" for 2.0 AP and 440 CP + 220 CP/rnd. "the doctor" is automatically drawn and worn out of my inventory, and thus my other weapons are auto-disarmed.
  • Use 'Temporal Step' from the Temporal Strider table to step out of time for 1 round.
  • Use 'Renewal' from the Temporal Strider table to negate the effects of the last jutsu to hit me for 1 AP.

Conditionals:
  • If bound at any time, activate the Explosive Note prepped in Strategist Slot 5.
  • Use Puppet Switch with "fauna" on the first attack made by the Door that takes more than 2.5 seconds to use.

If you have any questions, or if I've made anything unclear, please let me know and I will correct them immediately.

!
Refer to my note above regarding "mastered" jutsus. This is very important when it comes to normal modded PvP combat.
Puppets have reduced ability to heal, your Healing Factor only foes 1.5% max instead of 3. You might want to consider something else. While this is normally top tier, in your case it is not.
Due to the Trigger Condition of Cylinder of Magic you would want to place the trap later in a round.
Due to the placement of a trap at the start of the round (1 AP) plus having 2 jutsus modded as if 0.5 faster you have reached 10 AP at 8 seconds so you were not able to do all of your posted actions.

"Unlike standard weapons a single player may have up to 3 total puppets equipped at any given time but may only benefit from the augments equipped to one of their puppets as designated by them. To change which augments a player is benefitting from they must un-equip or drop the puppet they are currently gaining the benefit from and then select a new source of augments to benefit from. This does not cost additional AP outside of the cost of un-equipping a weapon. If they choose to Drop their puppet then they will need to pay the appropriate cost (1 AP) to pick it back up as normal."

The Narriative

The door was alive. Well almost alive. Nearly as alive as whatever you are.

Initiating Protocol: Sixty... Twenty Six... Thirty... Eighty Six!<i></i>

Separated from the strangest love of your short life thus far you were left in a frozen tundra. You would probably not feel much considering the fact that a portion of your body is inorganic. Bot you and the door would expel identical, useless cylinders. They would skid across the ice and spin thrice before they stopped. "Good, that is useless," the girl's voice announced over the speaker. You would be able to hear the furious click of keys.

You came burdened with many things. Oh so many things. You rifled through the equipment you brought with you faster than a fat kid at a cake buffet. Not one, but three puppets drawn and your present inhuman shell shed in the blink of an eye. Hopefully you were wearing something, you are in a tundra after all and shrinkage is real. Maybe this high-tech door has no camera. Well, she was not interested in those parts anyways, the smaller the better. Maybe she will be fortunate enough to see almost nothing there.

The newly un-shelled puppeteer's mannequin lurched at the door. Its fists or claws or whatever terrible arm-like appendage you devised would strike at the door over and over, tainted with a toxic brew. You were a skilled inventor. A skilled brewer. However the poisons did not afflict the door but some oil started to spurt from the heart of the passageway. You damaged something. An alarm blared as the door announced on the loudspeaker: Breech Level 1!
*Beep* BEEP! *Beep*

The ground underfoot started to rumble and crumble away revealing a pit below. You were able to leap away, Your dancing fingers manipulating your minions as you did so. Gloves away. New gloves donned. How much stuff did you bring with you!

Freshly gloved, your puppet resumed its assault on the door. nuts and bolts were ripped away and the oily innards of the door were exposed. In a visceral display of martial prowess the mechanical artery network was exposed and spurts of oil and gasoline spilled out onto the ground like an inky puddle. The door, if it had a state of self would likely attempt to repair but this was a perfect creation and it seemed to have no need. Rather a small camera-like device emerged from the door and projected a colorful display:

hypnotic.jpg

Don't look! Don't stare! Oh god, you saw it! It seemed to burrow into your mind. You would feel dizzy and a little bit nauseated. This could be the hypnotism or the hypothermia setting in. "Dammit!" You would hear her voice over the intercom. She was trying to do something but it did not seem to be working out in her... or perhaps your favor.

A blast of smoke would come from the puppet. Hopefully not its rear exhaust. These toxic fumes would be taken in through the vents. On the other side of the door you would hear coughing. Do doors cough? No, that was the girl. You would hear a *thud* and the coughing would stop. Level Seven Initiated. Well, things seemed to be going your way. Well, except for the unconscious goth girl, but there was a silver lining to everything: it looks like now she finally succeeded in reducing the 'danger level' of this assessment tool.

The door would try again, showing you another image.

You were immune to hypnofrog's power.

You would then start to fade just before the door's chakra canon went off. With a precise blast the chakra beam would burn through you. It seemed to cut through your clever attempt at self preservation.

You did well considering the damages you have wrought, however this would not be the end. You still had twenty seconds left to go. GOOD LUCK!

The dark, churning storm clouds swirling overhead set a grim tone. The silence of this cold, dead, wasteland was unsettling; since there was nothing else to drown it out, the quiet humming of the D.O.O.R. grew to become a monstrous whine of machinery and mechanical parts. It's almost like music...

Yatamaru found himself oddly intrigued as the great mechanical behemoth began to stir to life, groaning and whining in a precise pattern. Yatamaru recognized this feeling. Puppet Techniques? Don't tell me they had a hand in this. As far as he knew, puppeteers were few and far between in their subterranean paradise. The only other practitioners, at this high of a level, belonged to a group named 'The Bishamonten Project.' He'd heard they were in the business of weapon and puppet development, with a focus in R&D — after seeing this creation, he wondered whether he ought to pay them a visit.

"So this is what your group has been up to? I'll admit, this is pretty impressive...too bad I'll have to rip it to pieces." He wished he had time to gawk at this technological marvel; unfortunately, that was a luxury he didn't have.

His fingers worked faster than any human's could, a perk of his enhanced body — no doubt, this skill did not go unnoticed. His puppets danced to the silent music of his fingers, choreographed into a beautiful and deadly formation. One of his new creations, the puppet based off a certain six-armed Mitsuyo, led the charge. Unleashing a flurry of attacks, all laced with a deadly toxin, the unsuspecting D.O.O.R. was struck within the blink of an eye. His attack proved effective, though not exactly in the way he'd hoped for. It had only taken a few well placed strikes to weaken the outer armor of the D.O.O.R., and pretty soon a leak had sprung.

"Did they forget to tighten the nuts and bolts on this thing?" The machine seemed to react to his blows, initiating an alarm and what Yatamaru could only assume was a retaliatory attack in the form of a rapidly opening pit beneath him. Jumping harmlessly out of the way, Yatamaru continued where he left off: pummeling the pudding out of this portal of puppetry.

The clean, white snow had never looked dirtier. Thick, black, gooey pools of oil began to amass; the results of his beatings were beginning to show. I might actually have a chance against this thing! He'd damaged the creation quite a bit, but there were plenty more surprises in store for the contestant. A small protrusion that looked vaguely like a camera extended out of nowhere, then suddenly a bright light flashed. Yatamaru couldn't help but react and look — instantly, he knew he'd made a mistake. Genjutsu, and a powerful one at that. He knew how to dispel it, but would need a distraction. Or, a distraction and attack all in one? Seconds later, a thick cloud of noxious purple gas came spewing out of one of his puppets and began to waft towards the D.O.O.R. like a deadly plague. The effects were instant: not only could the thing not see, and thus rendered it's second Genjutsu attack useless, but it also seemed to be corroding away at the machine's components. Try to attack me now, you metal monster!

Of course, the irony in a metal man calling out such insults was not lost on Yatamaru. He just had more important things to care about.

The sound of coughing could be heard over the loud speakers, and the puppeteer realized his noxious fumes must have made their way into the observation chamber. Sorry, not sorry. I'll make it up to her later. He had a door to murder, after all, and it certainly wasn't going easy on him. He would have to accept whatever punishment she decided to give him later, much to his perverse pleasure.

The time had come to test out his newest invention. Now that he had a proper distraction, he was able to rapidly pull out and equip his puppet fitted specifically for temporal distortion. Machines require precise measurements in order to function properly. Let's see you hit me if you can't even track me. Like an outer shell, the puppet merged with Yatamaru's body to form a perfect mechanical union. He could feel the two puppets merging, assimilating, and unifying. They were both his body now, and he wasted no time in calling forth his newly acquired skills. That Genjutsu? Never happened. Why was his body see-through? Don't worry about it.

"Mother Suna, it works! I mean, uh, I totally knew it would work from the beginning! Just thought I'd mess with you a little." His excitement, unfortunately, got the better of him — he didn't notice the beam of pure energy that grazed him. Even in this form, that really freaking hurt. I've gotta be more careful. The tinkerer still had twenty seconds to go. Would he be able to pull this off? For my sake, I hope so.

Round Two Actions:

Conditionals:
  • If bound at any time, activate the Explosive Note prepped in Strategist Slot 5 for 0 AP.

<SIZE size="125">Narration<i></i>

You were either quite agile or quite fortunate. The Door continued its relentless barrage but for the most part the attacks failed to hit their mark. Your Magic Cylinder was already dead,
as was the Doors but one could not be too careful. If another trap were to enter the field, you could rest assured that you would be safe from its fearful effect. A cloud of smoke envelopes around you, a veil of smog and dust separates you from. Hopefully you do not have any allergies. Sadly it was not enough to obfuscate your location, a pillar of flame cut through the smoke cloud and you only narrowly avoided the insult.

It is likely that it would have felt good and warm, that fire if you had a sense of temperature. The bitter winds in this tundra raged on. One could suppose that it was a logical conclusion to suit up. The Door was not deterred even if you did not appear as you previously had. A buzz could be heard from the innards of the Door, it was reassessing you. It was making an effort to determine -what- you were. Had it made a mistake? Illogical

A fan shot off a gust of icy air. You scrambled away and a cloud of snow was uprooted in the place you had previously stood. It was quite pretty, all those tiny crystal-like flakes that seemed to glint. There was not time to enjoy this natural yet very foreign phenomena. You would attempt to assail the Door. The Door would seem to be hardly touched despite the power that you knew your attack had. It would be both fascinating and terrifying to realize this. How durable is this dam door? The answer was: more durable than you. But that was the intention -- to place you in a situation that you could not win and see how close you could get to victory. If everyone won, then there would be no criteria to determine 'who won best' because the objective was completed. This of course would leave inquisitive minds to ponder: what was the criteria that Sunagakure was going to use? Pure damage -- that could have been measured on a training dummy. Lack of damage taken -- that could be measured via similar means admittedly but this was a bit too dramatic to be just that? Some sort of Saturday morning cartoon special on the value of perseverance? No, you were in the wrong place if you believed that.

So what then?

What would be a metric used to determine how likely someone is to be victorious in a fight?

A rock sailed through the fair as if it was released from a slingshot (it was) that was the size of a horse. It would land on top of you, crushing your pelvis. Thankfully everything there was going to be replaced anyways. Thinking fast you activated one of your explosive notes and the rock split in half with a faint *pop*. You were able to roll out from beneath and you went on the defensive. A rouge blunt appendage was able to slip through your defenses. *THWACK!*
!
Despite the call that was made on Poison there is a question that will be submitted to Dev/BMod regarding the order of operations pertaining to when poisons effect someone when it is a one per round consideration. That means that you got the 2% HP poison taken from the Door, however this may change during the tournament. Since this may actually include additions to the UBR, I am giving you the best outcome for you regarding this.

Holy fucking shit, I think it's catching up to me...

The Sunan tinkerer wished that he had dodged and evaded this tremendous onslaught using his skills, training, and quick wits. That would have made for a much cooler story. Keep it together, man. This is no time for you to lose your fucking cool! To some, his swaying and fluid movements might be perceived as an advanced evasion technique. Yatamaru envied their innocence; his spontaneous slippery shift was due, of course, to a sudden rush of drunkenness — he'd journeyed through the facility, and began his assessment, before the whiskey he drank to calm his nerves had a chance to fully effect him. For now, it seemed to be doing him a favor.

"Ahahaha, yur door ain't doin' so hawt now, uhhhhh?" Oh fuck, I really need to get it together.

How much longer could he keep this drunken luck going? He wasn't sure, but he'd ride it as long as he could. In the meantime, he began to prepare. For what? For retaliation. The time had come to make his move against the D.O.O.R., even if he could barely keep himself standing upright. Some fancy finger work was required, but he would manage. There was born an unruly mixture of Ninjutsu and Kugutsu: magnetically fusing a puppet to his already integrated body, Yatamaru had become an amalgamate of weaponry and moving parts. At this point, it wouldn't be surprising if his body had more secret components than the D.O.O.R.

He unleashed his attack. Mostly hit. I guess that's good enough, for now. Next time, though, he'd get it right.

The near full hit was the turning point in his luck: the D.O.O.R. lobbed a massive boulder at him, literally by slingshot, that struck and crushed his nether regions beneath it. If I could feel anything down there, this would be so fucked. Thank Suna for prosthetics, right? Either way, he wouldn't be trapped for long — out of the center of his palm he shot small concentrated blast of energy into the rock, exploding it into rubble. Now he was just mad.

He gathered himself, using every bit of logical thinking he had left to formulate a rough plan. He would whip up a quick defensive fortification, regather himself, and resume the offensive. Only ten more seconds left. What other horrifying things could it do to me? While he sat there pondering, still very tipsy, a stray limb came out of nowhere to strike him in the face; though, just barely.

It's time to wake up, man. You need to get your head in the game. It was time to end this.

Round Three Actions:
  • Maintain Puppet Symbiosis for 220 CP.
  • Maintain Ionic Infusion for 310 CP.
  • Quickdraw 'spider gloves' for 0 AP.
  • Use 'Temporal Step' from the Temporal Strider table to step out of time for 1 round. This is a free action.
  • Enter 'Hasted Steps' Chakra Style for 0.5 AP.
  • Cast Three Treasure's Crushing Vacuum – Buddha's Sealing Vortex using "mai bod" for 2.5 AP and 1444 CP. Accelerating by -2.0 AP, due to Hasted Steps.
  • Use Syringe to inject Serpent's Blood poison, using Ranged Accuracy, for 0.5 AP.
  • Apply Iron Vein to 'mai bod' for 1 AP.
  • Cast Needle Shower on Door, using "mai bod", for 1.5 AP and 235 CP.
  • Cast Needle Shower on Door, using "mai bod", for 1.5 AP and 235 CP.
  • Cast Needle Shower on Door, using "mai bod", for 1.5 AP and 235 CP.
  • Use 'Renewal' from the Temporal Strider table to negate the effects of the last jutsu to hit me for 1 AP.

Conditionals:
  • If bound at any time, activate the Explosive Note prepped in Strategist Slot 4 for 0 AP.

OOC Notes:
  • Learned a lot from this battle, and have a lot of tweaks to make! Definitely didn't use things to their max potential, but I know how to now!

  • User checks their Ranged Accuracy against up to three target's Poison Resistance. Upon a successful check, the user must choose a jutsu rank (E-A Rank). Everyone effected has a 44% chance to fail using jutsu of that rank. The puppet that set this trap is unable to make any action while this trap is active.
0.00 Seconds | Oda Quickdraws 'spider gloves'.

The frigid battle was about to come to an end. The wind seemed to halt as a canister skidded across the ice and spun to a stop at your feet. You only needed to last ten more seconds. The best option of the few you had -- get the fuck out of dodge. You stepped out of time, it would only be for a short time but hopefully it would shield you long enough. You would try, try to assault the door further but the canister at your feet would tug at you, preventing your attack or causing you to strike out in vain.
BEEP BEEP BEEP!<i></i>

Something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong, a jolt of electrical energy would shoot out and course through your body. You would feel it through every inch of your body -- your fingertips and even the ends of your hair. Electricity would arc off your shoulders and make your knees feel likely they should buckle. Your hands would clench involuntarily and you would not be able to feel anything. You would feel numb. Hollow. Your fingers seemed to betray your demands and it hurt so much but you had no time to rest as a chakra cannon leveled itself against you and let off a massive blast of pure energy that would engulf you.

You would not be able to fight back. The Door was finally starting to overwhelm you. A blast of wind would send you tumbling back. Your aching hands would somehow find each-other despite the loss of tactile sense and you would release a barrage of toxic needles and some would embed themselves into the door. The caustic fluid would start to tax the passageway but it would never breech the core. Icy water would wash over you, crystal-like shards would emerge on the seams. Your clothes would be frozen stiff. It would be almost impossible to move but you would still try despite the chill and the weight. You did not need to feel. You were better than that, right? Indeed. But why did it have to be so hard. So hard to move. So hard to stand. It hurt. There was more machine than man in this shell.

The flashing light continued.

The alarm cried out.

A blast of heat from the door's fiery furnace-like core would melt away a layer of ice that had encased you. The water would seep into deeper parts of your body, parts you forgot about. Then a blast of water would come again and the tundra's frigid air would almost instantly flash freeze over your body.

But the gears would slow. The alarm would stop and the reddish glow would blink one last time before it went away entirely. Was it over? Yes... Yes it was. And you survived. The Door would unlock. She would be standing on the other side when you stepped back into this time. There was not much left to you. You were burnt and battered, half frozen but you could still carry yourself. You could still stand. Could you still walk? Possibly... You could.

The girl, she looked excited, intrigued and relieved all at the same time. Perhaps you left some sort of impression on her. She would smile and wave you in. She had a print out in her hand. "What are you?" She would laugh, he had already mentioned what he was once but it was different seeing it in practice. "Nevermind that," she would hand you a slip of paper. It was the Assessment's findings. You did pretty good. It was impressive considering the fact that this was a fight that you were not intended to win.

The Assessment: Oda Yatamaru

Construct-based fighter versus S Class Door Level 8 -- 30 Second Assessment Period
  • Door is at 84% Integrity.
  • Yatamaru caused 82,686 damage to the Door.
  • Yatamaru did use percentile integrity damaging techniques on the Door that accounted for 65000 or 13% of the door's integrity.

Yatamaru did not reach terminal failure within the 30 second Assessment period.
  • Kaen withstood a total of 34710, however some additional damage was somehow transmitted to his power stores for a total of 8678 additional damage.
    • If it was not for the transmission of some damages to his powered core, terminal failure would have been met within 30 seconds.
  • The Door had the potential to damage Yatamaru for a total of 80000 damage to his health, however 54% of the potential damage affected Yatamaru.

Resources
  • Present rate of chakra lost, it is anticipated that Yatamaru would run out of chakra by 55 seconds.
  • Chakra use exceeds longevity, it is calculated that Yatamaru would have reached critical failure by 35 seconds.
  • Skills were not utilized to the fullest. Should reconsider the following:
    • Stalker is a strong option.
    • This participant is resistant to repairs, perhaps he would have had better gains with more offensive options and skills.

Final Assessment: Subject is biologically unusual, further study is recommended.
  • Yatamaru would have caused 17686 plus 13% maximum vitality to a single biological target. He would need additional time to exceed the average S Rank shinobi's vital span.
  • Yatamaru would require in approximately 55 seconds to defeat an S-Ranked shinobi.
  • The only question regarding Yatamaru's potential for success is if he would be able to prevent terminal failure before he has terminated his opponent.

The end was nigh. He barely saw it coming.

It all happened so fast that he barely had time to react, complain, or otherwise process the sheer depths of the shit that he was about to be in. If weren’t for his extreme luck in managing to step out of time, thanks to his handy-dandy doctor puppet, he would have surely been obliterated, crushed, and splintered into tiny little pieces. But ready or not, the D.O.O.R. didn’t care. It hit him — hard — with seemingly everything at his disposal.

First, he felt the lightning. It seared through his limbs, the shocking current having found his body quite conducive and suited for this sort of assault, and burned with a might that he hadn’t felt for a very long time. When was the last time that I endured this much pain? He didn’t know. He didn’t care. All he was focused on was lasting through this one, horrid, moment. He just hoped his mechanical limbs would still work after this.

Second, came the raw blast of energy. He couldn’t have dodged if he wanted to, as the lightning from before had seemingly robbed his body of its fine motor control. Maybe he’d gain it again later, but that hardly mattered now. He gritted his teeth. He tucked in his head. He held on. Somehow, he managed to force his fingers to do something — anything — to try and stop this. It hardly mattered.

Third was the wind. His own elemental nature, the thing which he thought was his ally in combat, had turned against him. What cruel twist of fate is this? Perhaps he’d been deemed unworthy of such a power? What had he done? Whatever it was, he’d make amends. He swore it. He pleaded for release, for saving, for even a small respite. He just wanted the constant, burning, pain to stop. Was that too much to ask for?

Apparently.

Fourth was the water. And in this environment, it was all too effective. The liquid poured into every unseen crack, opening, and access port of his inhuman body. He wasn’t concerned that the water would do anything (all of his internals were properly water-proof, or water-resistant), but he was concerned about the cold. Instantly, droplets froze. Before he could blink, ice had coated his form so completely that any hope of movement was lost to him. He was a statue, aware of its own sorry state, unable to do anything to prevent what was coming next.

Fifth, was fire. At least the D.O.O.R. had a sense of humor. Freeze him to the point of immobilization, and then immediately thaw him out? What was this, one of those slap-stick moving picture things he’d heard about? There was a joke in here, he was sure, and anyone watching would surely be gaining some sort of sick pleasure at his expense. But if this situation was funny, Yatamaru wasn’t laughing. He was holding on for dear life, wanting nothing more than to get off this crazy ride of pain and torture. Maybe someday he’d look back on this (or on the recording that was surely being done) and laugh, but at the moment all he could do was endure.

It wouldn’t be much longer now.

Lastly came more water. The fire had barely melted the previous layer of ice and frost, the residue having seeped deep within his core, when another frigid blast of icy water came pouring out at him. What kind of cruel, sick, joke is this? If he managed to live through this whole ordeal, he swore right then and there that he’d find whoever had made this thing and get his revenge by throwing them in here to test it out. Maybe then, from the other side of the D.O.O.R., he’d find this situation humorous. He just needed to endure long enough to get to that point. Yatamaru closed his eyes, bracing himself for the final onslaught that would end it all. Somehow, he knew that the machine wouldn’t stop until he was obliterated completely. How could it be otherwise? And yet…

… nothing happened. I...I made it? Indeed. His vision was fuzzy, his entire body was almost completely unresponsive, and he could barely understand the thoughts going through his mind. But yes, he’d made it.

The D.O.O.R. opened before his eyes — it was the most beautiful thing he’d ever witnessed. Not only had he survived the madness that was the Bishamonten’s pet project, but the sexy goth girl he’d managed to woo had come to receive him, personally (even though she’d done so for every other contestant — but don’t tell Yatamaru that!). She was holding something that looked like papers, but Yatamaru hadn’t the mental stamina to deal with such a feat as reading at the moment. Halfway dragging himself out from the freezing cold, he basically limped his way towards his absolution.

There was only one thing on his mind at the moment. When he’d reached the entrance back into the Rangers’ facility, within speaking distance of his lovely prize, he was able get out only a few words. ”So...did you think about it?” Then he collapsed into her, hopefully being caught and supported, and felt the warm embrace of not having to fight anymore. He’d never realized how awesome it was to not be in constant, searing, pain.

”Don’t you dare get started without me,” he managed to croak out. ”I know I’m totally irresistible after that, but I think I deserve to be conscious when we get around to it...” Then he passed out, in her arms, thinking of nothing but how warm she must be compared to the bitter cold outside.

He wished, desperately, that he could feel it.
