Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The City of Babylos
desert_ruins_by_blinck-d304j7r.jpg

Located in the rocky, temperate southern region of Wind Country, Babylos served as a fortified trading outpost that serviced miners in the far south that sought their fortune in the vast mountain ranges that bordered the country. Fortunes were never made in the south, the mines were bereft of diamonds and gold, but several 'precious' metals were discovered along the bladespeak coast such as feathersteel, breaker iron and bladespeak, the ore from which the range is named. This of course birthed a community in the far south west of Wind Country called Gong, legendary for making sentient blades. However Babylos grew in its own way, not as a shining trade community but rather as a haven for scholars. Attracted by the fact that Babylos was so far out of the way, underutilized but still an important part of the trade routes in Wind Country scholars were drawn to the peaceful mining community. Due to the presence of what would one day be heralded as the Oracle order, the city's population and importance increased so that it became "the center of edification" in Wind Country.

The Oracles built a tower in the heart of the city, a great library said to house the secrets of the Order. This great library was known as the Tower of Babylos. The city thrived under the watchful eye of the tower whose top, seventh floor was always lit. It was said that the Oracles stationed themselves as the ruling body of the meritocracy of Babylos and that they did well as a society. The lands surrounding Babylos became suitable for farming thanks to an irrigation system constructed and the village became self-sufficient over time. That was of course part of their mysterious downfall. As Babylos stopped needing contact with the outside world, Babylos closed itself off to outsider influence. Babylos halted trade with the other communities and instructed traders to bypass their community as they were no longer necessary, this being a 'logical ends.' A wall was constructed around the city first and then around their farmland a decade later. Those curious enough to enter Babylos never left, some assumed that they chose to stay in what Oracles have described as a 'haven for intellectuals' but others suggested a dire end for those that forced their way inside.

Eventually Babylos was for the most part forgotten, or perhaps ignored. The community kept to themselves, allowing only Oracles entry into the massive self-sustaining community and of those that entered none ever departed. Perhaps that is why nobody noticed when Babylos was destroyed over five decades ago. Two decades before the diamond maelstrom stripped the country of the other villages. Nobody knows exactly when Babylos fell, only that people stopped trying to visit Babylos, that nobody tried to enter Babylos and that still nobody ever departed Babylos. The tower of Babylos grew dark and cold, like a dark tombstone over a grave.

The curious, foolish and brave have on occasion tried to enter the city of Babylos, none have gotten far. The city itself apparently a labyrinth of traps and puzzles with dangerous and dire consequences for those who fail to answer the crazed maker's riddles. So as the people of Babylos wanted, we forgot about them wholly. That is until this past week, the light on the top floor of the tower is on once again.

The mission starts as many other missions start, a notice on the cork-board:

Note said:
Attention: Interested Shinobi!

Seeking a team of Jounin-strength shinobi to investigate the abandoned city of Babylos. Having been abandoned for decades, sudden new activity in this former Oracle haven has prompted us to investigate the ruins of this city. Considering the war effort, Babylos may become a strategic war resource as it is suspected that a portion of the Ishii regime is likely responsible for the new activity in this city so take caution. We do not know what to expect when we enter the city of Babylos, the city is likely well fortified but there may be structural integrity issues due to years of neglect creating an additional safety concern.

The Mission Objective is as follows: investigate the city of Babylos, document what you learn and report back to Sunagakure. If you come upon a Sovereign Army threat, your goal is apprehension only if possible. If you are incapable of capturing the Sovereign agent alive, the please bring their remains to Sunagakure for dissection and autopsy.

The village of Babylos, like many of the other villages in Wind Country prior to the Diamond Maelstrom, was essentially forgotten when the wind and earth buried the smaller communities. The ruins of several others could be found beneath several feet of earth, with bodies. The desert itself was like a giant grave. The journey to Babylos could have been an adventure in itself, the threat of Sandworms and hykals real, the oppressive heat and the lack of water made the desert itself a real threat but you, as well as several others made it to the fringe of Babylos.

A ring of tents around a fire might greet you unless you are one of the first ones. East, a quarter of a mile away was the city proper. Great white walls separated the forgotten community, a tower in the heart of the city with the top floor... lit. From this far away one could not hear any noise from the city and perhaps it was a trick of the eye but it would seem that from even this far away movement could be detected. How strange. Nobody had made a sweep of the city perimeter yet, the diameter of the city itself was only about three miles but considering the harsh, heated conditions it would take the better part of the day to review the outskirts of the city.

This is a group moderated mission. Meet and greet. Determine if you are going with other players or if you will explore on your own. I may end up making multiple threads to facilitate activity and have been set to post weekly in the thread. You can post multiple times between moderations unless you are in a moderated battle. Make sure that your stats are up to date in your profile.

What I will need from you.
In your post please (in a spoiler or whatever) give me a list of your
  • Abilities
  • Weapons
  • BL/CA
  • Class
  • Stats (if they are not quite capped, otherwise don't bother)
  • Link to your profile

Every fight can be avoided by being proactive or in some cases wildly lucky. Your stats are also relevant for solving puzzles and other barriers in your adventure. So make sure that you list them and consider the jutsus that you own. Some jutsus rarely used in a fight might be useful in this adventure.

Akkuma had received word of an odd job offer that had appeared on the Mission Boards for any shinobi of Jounin level. Most curious was it was a call to investigate an Ancient Oracle structure one rumored to hold an invaluable amount of information. But what was most importance to the Demon was the mention of Sovereign members. He had made it his mission to remove the Daimyo's threat from this country & he couldn't allow foolish Sunans to perish at their hands. For all he knew it was a trap for those seeking a means to defeat the Daimyo's forces. Akkuma stopped in at his lab before departing & made a quick snack of an unsuccessful subject. The being's pain was at an end but he would still serve the Demon's bidding. With his preparations made & an extra soul stored within himself Akkuma was almost ready. Grabbing some supplies & a map of the region along with one of the stars in the region above he soon found himself ready.

Using the stars as his guide the Demon moved across the desert sand swiftly under the night sky. By now he was no newcomer to the desert, he slept during the day in the safety of his Earth Jutsu & traveled safely using the stars above him. His trip was uneventful but that was what he'd wanted. Akkuma didn't want anyone to know he was here. Not if the Demon could help it, after all he needed to establish just how many individuals this tower had drawn. Akkuma wanted to conserve his chakra so he dug into the earth he had intended to make himself a little bunker underneath the surface. But before he knew it he'd tripped over his own feet turning to shift more earth. Only to have the ground around begin to tip back into the pit he was in. Somehow he'd managed to bury himself singlehandedly, if one had witnessed the deed it would've no doubt been hilarious. Well most of him...his head was still visible above the surface. He sighed & couldn't help but chuckle of course he'd gotten himself buried. This form had many benefits but his clumsiness was something that was both advantageous & troublesome.

Now he had to wait for a means to unbury himself there were a few things he could do but he wanted to see what might happen should a fellow mission participant find him. Should a hostile individual find him...well Akkuma had a means for dealing with that situation too.

Sousuke was inside the tent making final adjustments to his armour. He was not wearing his suit, but one of his traditional armours. This was going to be a semi stealth operation, so using one of his hulking suits with the antlers was going to be of little use. Instead he opted for a suit more aligned with his naturally smaller body size. The armour was grey, and Sousuke kept with him a darker coloured cloak. He stood up from the chair he was sitting on as the metallic plates crept over his facial features completing the helmet. As he was finished gearing up he would walk outside. He caught sight of Akkuma, who it would seem would be joining him on this mission.

Miroku Akkuma was not an individual Sousuke deemed to be 'of good company'. He was observed the Demon bury himself. It was a weird sight. He would make his way towards the man who smiled too broadly and surrounded himself with men and women who smiled far too broadly. Everyone, except Riyota, in the Miroku clan smiled too broadly. Akkuma would hear the slight sound of metal clanking as Sousuke approach him. Sousuke would look down at Akkuma. "How is this an advantageous position?"</B><i></i> He would inquire immediately. He would then look up into the sky for a moment as if he forgot something. "Salutations regardless."<i></i> He would add before he would turn his gaze back down unto Akkuma. "Do you want to ... remain there or do you want to get out?"<i></i> He would inquire secondly. Akkuma was doing some questionable things.

"Should I be expecting one of your agents to be coming?"<i></i> A third inquiry would come now. Was he going to be faced with multiple broad smiling people? Hopefully not. That accursed smile was infectious. Sousuke had proved to be immune to this smile sickness. That was perhaps for the best.

Haru had found the notice of the mission at a somewhat late time, certain events leaving him with a lot of things to ponder on... If this came up a few weeks prior he would probably be more confused than anything, but spending some time as an oracle he did come up the records of the City of Babylon and its towers, it is a hub for Oracle activity and a gathering pot of much knowledge before it suddenly...ceased to exist, or at least, the people within it did so. Even before the maelstrom...was it an early action taken by the Daimyo before he went out full bore in recent years? Could be, and now they returned to collect what they couldn't take before, or maybe just came here for the first time. It didn't matter. It was not there to take. And he would make sure it would be his village who would get to the bottom of what happened in the towers, and sue the knowledge within to fend off any threats coming their way.

He felt a bit uneasy seeing the towards in the horizon as he moved through the dunes in his standard dunewalker garb, part of his standard mission attire along with a black shirt and slightly more tactical oriented pants with several pouches on them. It was less the mission itself and just the tower reminding him of...th even which gained him his additional powers. He shook his head trying to clear his mind...this would be different... sure he had only a bearly bigger idea of what to expect but it was something. And he would have an actual company. He wasn't sure who would respond tot he mission specifically, but the wouldn't be alone. he would have people driving him to do the best he could.

AS he arrived at the camping site he was met with an..unusal sight. Sosuke was there, dressed in a much lighter set of armor, and he was talking to...a head. While the thought of a disembodied head just randomly approaching Sosuke came to his mind, he did recall not eating any suspicious mushrooms on his way here. Perhaps an early Shinoi was being punished by those camping here? A spy? regardless, as he surfed the sand he came to a skidding halt a bit away not to cover the men's head in the sand and then closed the distance, reaching out to Sosuke and clapping him on the shoulder in greeting "Good to see you, friend...I should have thought to ask if you would be here, this seems like a task quite up you alley" smiling brightly before turning down to the other person "Soo...how did you end up down there...and should I help you out of this?" he asked with genuine curiosity in his voice, the latter part being directed once again to Sosuke. It was a bit odd...the men seemed familiar but he couldn't put a finger on it. Little did he knows just how unusual of a trio they could form...

Rumors of the lost city started to circulate between upper level staff in the hospital about three days before the official post was pegged to the board. Tama had all but forced himself to ignore it for the longest of time for a multitude of reasons. The highest of them being between his duty as a practicing doctor and the fact that Babylos was once a dream of his.

As a child who witnessed the maelstrom first hand as his mother dragged them through it to secure their only chance at survival, Tama was a soul interested in what could possible be hiding beyond the wall of diamond winds. Some of his early history reports in the Academy revolved around what could possibly still be there in theory based on what little information he was able to gather as a child. Had Mikaboshi not flipped on the switch that altered the course of his fate, the good scientist may had been one of the many expeditions lost to the tower. With his focus on staying alive far more important than the history of the country he now lived in, the young Ryuu gave up on thinking of Babylos and its mysteries.

Until now.

Yet still the doctor tried his hardest to feign any interests in the team that was being set up to go investigate the recent light and yet continued to keep hard tabs on everything that was being done and reported about Babylos; at least as much as he could. It was costing him no short amount of money and favors to keep the strings he wanted on the mission to give him a peace of mind while he continued his work until he saw the list of known people working towards exploring the old city. The blonde’s heart skipped a beat to see the Takehashi’s name scrawled on his paper and instantly felt the spiritual weight Karma dropped on his shoulders.
Sousuke was the last thing he truly had that connected him to Okibi and any of his old life. Protecting that precious connection meant everything to Tama and to see the man go toward such an obvious point of possible conflict caused a vice to appear on his soul. That very night the pressure of a building panic attack had been driving his brain to the edge of sanity as he attempted to keep up with his duties at the hospital. The moment his shift was over in the ER the doctor sped home by foot.

Preparing for the trip was nothing new. Tama knew how to traverse the desert back when the wind would shred a living creature to mincemeat in seconds. Yet as he packed extra clothing sealed away in tiny scrolls into the pouch strapped to his thigh he couldn’t help but notice the continued clench in his chest. Something wasn’t right. Everything about the entire mission felt off and had Sousuke not been on the list the good doctor would of simply sat back and waited for the outcome; he did work better in a reactionary setting from being a surgeon after all. Yet with his friend risking his life and limb for country, again, he couldn’t just sit by and let it happen.

With his gear gathered the scientist stopped short of the body length mirror and all the jewelry and random things hanging or sitting on shelves around it. His eyes narrowed not on the image reflected in the glass but instead on the simple white gold ring that sat inconspicuously by itself. Stamped into the ring was the symbol of his clan and it had been meant to be a ring used to propose his idea of marriage to the only woman who had braved his erratic personality. It was a gift that never got the use it was meant for. Reaching up he touched the band so it flipped up off its side and raised his hand to let it fall down on his left ring finger a little before he slid it down the rest of the way with his right. A little luck never hurt.

Since the information he had got with Souske’s name on it was a day old it took the scientist a little catching up before he found the trail leading up to the group. Walking beside a tired horse the scientist adjusted his wide-brimmed hat and squinted his eyes at the setting he was walking into. Immediately he recognized the Steward, though not his armor, but the others he did not recall.
Making his presence known by clearing his throat the scientist slowly swaggered up the head in the dirt and wrote a single rune on the ground and gave it a tap of chakra. It would cause the ground to eject Akkuma the way one’s bowels would processed food. Without speaking a word to either of the men, Tama made his way straight to Sousuke,

Oy! What’cha doin ‘ere all out in da dangerzone? Surely we’ze haz sum intelli-gant shinobi you trust to do this fer yah.” His words sounded playful but the look of concern in the scientist’s eyes were anything but.

Akkuma was playing the role of hero. Supporting his community, one he refused to don the banner of but protected it as if it was his own. He did not know it but he went soft a long time ago. Soon he would be surrounded by his enemies, buried up to his neck in Sand. An erronious action that set into motion a series of unfavorable circumstances that would place his face uncomfortably close to the heel of Sunans.

Sousuke was already there, he had made camp and even had time to pick his attire. He was better prepared than the demon and most certainly in an adventageous position. Yet his social interactions continued to be awkward and he failed to use this oppertunity to kick dust in the nukenin's eyes. Perhaps Sousuke too was going soft, he accepted the fact that Akkuma was there, that his followers might also follow.

The Oracle Harupia was still acquiring knowledge about the setting, about his Order's history. The potential to add something more to his personal mental archive was a reward that the man could not ignore. It would be a relief likely that he recognized somebody already there. It was good to have someone he could trust. It was also good that he had this... head? Some people are strange. Like Sousuke, rather than bury the missing shinobi's face in the sand, he would offer the man aid. Perhaps Akkuma was less of an outsider than he presupposed.

Ryuu Tama, a man with a history. A history with this village (did you have something in mind or did you want me to insert something) or the denizens that are long lost. Fate or perhaps circumstance has not been kind to Ryuu, where was the woman he loved? The child? The immense burden his soul must be taxed with. The cruelty of the Deep Court Lord and how it transformed his life. Would today be any better? Would he learn something worth learning? Did he want to know the secrets the Oracles harbored? Something felt off. Something felt wrong! He could feel it in his gut, perhaps even in his bones. They knew the truth, something was amiss.

Akkuma was launched out of the ground like a... turd? The ground about him swelled, he could feel a relief on his arms. The colon was about to spass, the earth about his collar would tighten like a sphincter and then a peristalic wave. The earth near the surface would relax but the rest, that being the space from down below near his ankles first then about his knees and then waist and finally chest would squeeze. He would be expelled, the compressive force from the bottom up would propell him forward our outward.

Thanks Tama, the narrator never had to describe that one before.

The city itself was a worthy spectacle. Great walls would encompass the perimeter of the city. Nearest the camp there would be a door. Eastern Gate
MEzuyAK.jpg

You come upon the northern gate, the sun or the moon if you waited until nightfall almost directly overhead yet the heat from that celestial object does not seem to bake your flesh as much as it had in the heart of the desert. The chill does not seem to reach your bones as deeply if it was the dark of night. Still, the ground is dry, almost barren less the sparse sprig of yellowed grass or tangled thorny bush. The terrain itself rocky and hard, covered in a layer of glistening crystal-like sand.

Before you stands great wall of ivory stone, these walls sanded to an almost glassy finish from decades of abuse at the hand of the diamond maelstrom. Yet if you touched the wall, you would feel a shock of power run through the tip of your finger. If you drew your eye closer to the wall you might see it, while sanded away from years of abuse at the hand of the diamond maelstrom there was at some point something there. not a groove or an indentation, but when you angled yourself just right you might see something, a marking. Something in distinctly runic terran. If you looked skyward, you would note that the wall itself was about thirty feet tall, nothing you could not climb with a grappling hook if you had one or chakra climb (if you were over C Rank). It was what was beyond the all that was disconcerting. Not the narrow, ivory tower in the distance but that thing. Whatever it was, it was humanoid but made of stone and it was ten feet taller than the wall itself. Only the head and shoulders were exposed. It ambled with a slow, lumbering gait around the perimeter of the walled in village, its eye sockets filled in with a pair of icy blue gems. As the giant sentinel rounded the wall nearest you, you would feel the earth itself shake. It did not seem to take notice in you, at least as long as you were outside of the city itself.

Immediately in front of you there was a gate here also made of a strange metal that you have never seen before, it possessed a queer blueish tint. Sousuke would pat Harupia on the back. The two exchanged physical greetings. "This task? A little exploration was good for an individual. My grandmother told me a few times when I was Steward-Kazekage to go out and have an adventure. Adventure builds character, something you have in spades ... or at least that is how the saying goes. Not sure why when a person has a great deal or a feature or item, it is said you have ... it in spades, considering that is a suit in cards. The deck of cards has equal amounts of hearts, spades, clubs, and diamonds."<i></i> Sousuke would then see another familiar face arrive being Tama. Tama was someone that was difficult to drag out to do something. The Scientist and oftentimes medic wanted to stay in his comfort zone, and keep to himself. The Steward watched as Tama took time to fire Akkuma out of the ground. "At least he's in an advantageous position now."<i></i> Sousuke spoke lowly. Tama would then ask him, why of all people, was he out here. "I work for my people, and they work for me. Sometimes we work together for the same thing."<i></i> He answered with a slight pause. "The intel of the provider for the mission concerns me."<i></i> He answered. He would turn his head to look at the fabled city. "A ruler who doesn't fight at the side of his people is not a ruler worth respecting either."<i></i> Michino, Tama's younger brother understood this. It was strange that Tama, being the older brother, did not get this sentiment either. "We have work to do. Let's figure this out."<i></i>

Sousuke would approach the gate and notice the cobalt iron. He would point at the gate. "That's cobalt iron. That's something one doesn't see every day, and even at the Halls of Hammers, we rarely deal in that. Melting that requires extreme heat."<i></i> He would notice that the surroundings seemed new, but that wasn't right either. This place was at some point in time perhaps buried by the Diamond Maelstrom. Sousuke would trace his eyes along the door frame. He would see Runic Terran scrawled across the top. He would look amongst his comrades. " كلمه السر هي سر."<i></i> He would speak in the native tongue. Sousuke rarely spoke in Ruinic Terran but he did in fact know it. "Password is the Secret."<i></i> He would state out loud. His eyes would shift about. This was an Oracle structure, but who knew what old lost technologies resided here. He would pause for a moment. Maybe it was an audio based? "Secret is the Password."<i></i> He would muse out loud inverting the phrase. He thought about . "سر."<i></i> He proclaimed at the door. He would look to see if there was anything he could write on the walls with, or if there was a banner around the frame to write the word Secret in.

Akkuma would chuckle at the Stewards words "I was trying to obtain an early advantage but it seems this form is less...precise then my last." he'd say with a chuckle. The Lord Steward looked skyward for a moment greeting him & asking if he wished to remain there or not. Following with should he expect one of the being's Agents to arrive. The question made him smile "Surprising you'd come here yourself...don't tell me you've come alone Lord Steward? There was so little Intel about this Tower & the threats within. I thought it best I inspect it myself..." he paused as a newcomer began to speak. Those vividly green eyes looked upon the newcomer it was a face he'd not seen before.

"I was clumsily attempting to make myself hidden when I dislodged some soil &..." that would have been the moment where if he had use of his hands he'd have gestured to his current predicament. He smiled warmly at the shinobi who'd arrived & offered aid. That same smile that Sousuke found unnerving. A third shinobi arrived another individual he did not know yet another who knew the others by the calm manner of his approach. 'A full squad of Jounin from Sunagakure...the Lord Steward himself. What on earth could possibly be within that structure to draw this much interest from Suna.' he thought to himself as he watched the last newcomer arrive & draw a marking into the ground around them.

Then Akkuma was excreted from the earth for the was the only way he could describe the sensation. Landing on his feet he gave a mixture of both shudder & chuckle as he looked at the newcomer. "Thanks for the aid friends...I'm Akkuma." he'd say bowing to the three shinobi. Turning his gaze shifting over the three shinobi assessing them each one unique in the attire they'd come in. The Demon Sage would shake loose what Sand he could from his garments & hair. Wearing a black trench coat over a business-like black dress shirt along with black leather leggings. "This should be interesting..." he'd say with a chuckle. Heading towards the Northern Gate of the City. He would run his fingers across the surface feeling a surge of energy through his fingers.

Using chakra control he would walk up the wall to stand a top it & let out a long whistle when he saw the construct that moved autonomously before him. Akkuma would wait to see what the Sunan's wished to do for now he would sit back & watch. From here he would be able to keep a watchful eye over the shinob he accompanied. He would do his best to ensure they all succeed in surviving whatever lay ahead of them. He observed the interactions between the shinobi & most importantly the Lord Steward it seemed he'd decided to try his luck at a riddle they'd found. He waited eagerly to see what would happen if anything.

He put his hand on Sosuke's arm as he greeted him with the pat while elaborating as to why he came here, a somewaht light-hearted explanation. Still it was good to see him be more light-hearted and humorous in general...though as he asked his question he simply shrugged as he said "I am not quite sure about that...though if I recall correctly there was this one game my father used to play where the cards of spades had the biggest value in some way...perhaps its referring to that". His memory worked in strange ways, easily forgetting things in his clumsy scatter mindedness but yet recalling minute details like that. He turned his head to the 3rd Shinobi while scratching his chin and saying "I see, the desert can be hard to control sometimes if your not careful" he responded returning the smile, perhaps not as widely as the man but still in a warm fashion. He seemed quite nice if a bit clumsy.

Before he could offer further assistance another man joined the fray. Dismounting a horse the man looked somewaht frazzled in a way...though he did seem familiar as well. before anything could be said he had assisted the third Shinobi, exiting him from the ground in arather...aburpt fashion. He scratched his head a bit while saying "Probably could have done that smoother...but you are on your feet at least Akkuma. My name is Sunaku Harupia, pleased to meet you" returning the bow with his own while the two other men converse with each other. The Blonde man was clearly worried about Sosuke, but the Steward would be adamant about doing something once his mind was set to it. After Sosuke finished he said "You heard the man. Whatever lies within there won't come to us, be it either the secrets of the tower, of the many ho think they can sneak under the nose of the countries finest" cracking his neck slightly as they went towards the visible gate.

He gave Akkum a look up as he scaled the wall to get a better look inside, feeling the vibration caused by the massive entail maneuvering through the parameter of the gates "Hmm, even if we manage to figure out how to open this gate I can only imagine the automaton there won't be pleased by us stepping closer...I wonder if there were other ways around here" he mused as he moved behind Sosuke, kneeling and putting his bare hand on the sand. Trying to use his skills in manipulating sand and earth, in general, he tried to move it under the ground, trying to dig deeper and to the sides to see if there was something unusual under the grounds, like a tunnel or perhaps some mechanism of any sorts.

There was a flicker of respect that shot across the doctor’s eyes but his face remained set on disappointment. For a creature of outstanding pride he couldn’t wrap his mind around the idea of a leader fighting along side their peons, but, could still respect the nobility in the action. Tama set his mouth as if he was going to try and argue against Sousuke’s response but a quick reminder of fuzzy memories told him this man was much like himself; he was going to do it his way. Relenting in this the blonde held his hands up in surrender and backed away after their greetings had been exchanged properly.

It seemed his spell worked a bit too well on Akkuma as the scientist caught the last bit of the demon sage being expelled from the desert. The sight was all at once weird and humorous all together, and when the man decided to introduce himself it was all the Ancient Hybrid could do to not scoff. So far he hadn’t been impressed by this ‘Akkuma’, but their time together had just started.
The other man in their group, a one Harupia, felt oddly familiar. Like the face of a person he had schooled but never interacted with, the man’s features plagued Tama in the ways only an itchy memory could. Yet his concern or the reason he was even out here to start with didn’t involve either of these men; it was the Lord Steward that called the scientist to stand outside these gates. Thus the moment Sousuke began to move and investigate the wall as did the scientist, not unlike a faithful canine companion.

He raised a hand to the wall to touch it and recoiled at the energy. Concerned he watched Akkuma begin to climb the wall when he felt the boom of the construct walking around beyond the high stone. Immediately his eyes shot up to the gigantic construct that the sage wolf whistled at and felt his heart squeeze.
Because it was so beautiful.
As a man of science it was more happenstance than anything that lead him down the path of medical. Before the shade of Mikaboshi awakened his true potential the man had a talent for the mechanical and even now dabbled in some gears-n-oil from time to time. Staring at what appeared to be a gigantic being made from an advanced mechanical science he had never seen before made his heart leap and his pants a little tighter. Sousuke’s mention of the gate’s metal and its rarity snapped the scientist from his lust and called his brain back towards reality instead of the ten or so theories he had on what was helping that thing move.

With a bit of a swagger the man held down on his hat to keep a stray gust from removing it as he stepped through the sands over to his long-time friend and stared down the gate with seriousness. His eyes twitched looking at the Runic Terran remembering how long it had been since he had studied the language and was super grateful to find the Steward was still fluent. Yet the message it gave was, at best, super cryptic. A hand went to stroke his chin and scratch at the little rectangle patches of beard as he tried to give some insight to it,

Perhaps…eet wants us to reveal a sec’ret?”

If that was the case then the ‘good’ doctor had more than his fair share, including the creature he had managed to trap inside of his own soul. Though he really didn’t want to share any of these said secrets with anyone, including Sousuke, the doctor couldn’t see much of another way forward without climbing the wall; and that just seemed like a bad idea for all four of them.
So, keeping beside Sosuske, the mad scientist placed his palm against the blue metal and reached deep inside of himself until he could see the nega-version of himself chained and bound. Stepping up to it Tama raised his hand and struck the mirror image across the face. Karma responded with a shock of energy that caused the chains and seals wrapping his body to shake and loosen a little. The creature began to move its mouth to speak to which Tama slapped on another seal across its lips before it could,
Nah-ah, not right now. You’se can yells at meh later.

Opening his eyes Tama could see the gentle film of energy that stuck to his skin giving him a bright outline to his image. He pushed his hand harder against the door and called out, with the power of Karma, the Ancient energy locked away deep in his DNA. The silhouette of energy exploded out from him and focused itself into his hand so that he might try and pulse it into the metal itself hoping to perhaps signal old locks that had not been used.

Oda Yatamaru searched the perimeter of the village.

You come upon the northern gate, the sun almost directly overhead yet the heat from that celestial object does not seem to bake your flesh as much as it had in the heart of the desert.

Well, perhaps a Journeyman might have seen it but it was a rare metal that was not often used by Journeymen due to the high melting temperatures: Cobalt Iron. The rivets seemed new, as if this door was placed just the other day but you knew better, that was utterly impossible. There was a button on the door just begging to be pressed as well as a number pad quote similar to what one would find on a phone. As if an unseen hand compressed the button, the button would depress into the door and a voice would emanate from an invisible speaker.

The voice was distinctly feminine, the inflection in her voice did not show any particular interest if it was ever a woman's voice at all. It sounded automated and cold. It was almost expected of the entryway into a city of Oracles, the entryway being a riddle onto itself.

However, that was not the last gate you encountered as you decided to carry on. Onto the second gate. You would encounter the second gate, the Western Gate. Similar to the first, immediately in front of you there was a gate here also made of a strange metal that you had probably only seen once before about an hour ago. It too possessed a queer blueish tint. Cobalt Iron. The rivets also seemed new, as if this door was placed just the other day but you knew better, that was utterly impossible. The door was simple and unadorned, less a strange banner deeply etched across the top of the door frame written in runic stated the following: ""كلمه السر هي "سر ". Another riddle.

Yet you did not stop there, there was much more to see. Another hour journey in the heat of the desert, the great wall gave you no shade from the high sun. It seemed almost redundant less a minor twist, the first door a keypad and a voice. The second, runic terran. What would the third metal door have in store for you? The third, still flanked and topped in ivory stone, so glass-like and smooth. Yet rather than a gate you would find a mirror. One would expect to see their own reflection but in this case you would see something else entirely. An image of a suited gentleman that looked nothing like you, however the 'reflection' mirrored your movements perfectly but spoke independent of you. If you waved your hand, the mirror would do the same. If you stepped to the right, the mirror image would match your movements perfectly. If you attempted to walk into the village, through the mirror, the reflection would be standing in your way. You would feel as if you had impacted flesh and bone, not a mirror.

صباح الخير مسافر لطيف

He spoke in an old language that some might know as runic.

كيف حالك في هذا اليوم الجميل ؟

But he did not answer any questions you might have for him.

أستميحك عذرا لشخص طيب

Behind the strange gentleman's reflection was a city. Behind you, only sand and brambles, the mirror itself almost a threshold less the polite man standing in your way...

Antisocial as always, you would carry on. Leaving the strange man in the mirror to his own devices only to be forced to endure a larger group of men. You knew these men, well some of them at least. This tower had garnered quite a bit of attention from the upper echelon, fascinating.

The final gate had a riddle similar but not the same as the door exactly opposite of it. There were four "doors" in total, a fact that Oda may or may not share. Meanwhile the men gathered there would ponder the possibilities. Was the door asking him to say the phrase etched into the door? The Oracles were sticklers for proper words -- that whole bit with 'words have power' and asking the 'right' question had to come from somewhere. It could mean that a secret had to be shared, that uttering something new for the door and those gathered to learn about at least one or all of them would give them ingress into the village of Babylos.

It did not look like they were willing to share if that was the case. Tama had too many secrets, the least of which you would still probably not want to share with those you knew or in this case a mixture of those you knew coupled with complete strangers. Information was power, something the Oracles knew quite well and perhaps it was a lesson that you too would soon learn.

Some did not even consider the possibility that it was a simple statement, unlike Sousuke. You repeated the translated words in common: "Password is the Secret." You thought like a machine, there was a simple order to things. There were rules and there were laws and these laws were absolute so you considered the answer to be something pre-programmed, a linear yes/no algorithm perhaps. You tried to rephrase it. "Secret is the Password." It was a clever notion, but there was no change in the door, no sound of a deadbolt being withdrawn. The door did not swing open or break apart. It stood there as enduring as it always had been. That door was not going anywhere anytime soon.

Tama was also a man of practical science, but he was also not one to take any risks. You summoned forth something from that monster inside of you. Elemental Cloak Stage I, encasing yourself in protective elemental energy. It was like a thrumming aura about you. You were about to do something either very impressive or very stupid, but that was the essence of science wasn't it? Trial and error. For science one might say. Using Energy Transfer you would attempt to either take or disrupt the energy that was housed within the door and within the walls. You would feel something. There was an incredible amount of living energy inside of there. There was too much energy! By the gods that a man of science would never believe in, there was too much there! It was like you tried to dam up a river with a few sandbags, the waters just rushed over even more powerful and concentrated than before. You would feel the incredible energy surge into your hand and course up your arm. It was this painful spreading sense, like a burning web being formed inside your body, creeping up your appendage and into your neck and down your torso. Your hand would instinctively clench, your muscles tighten and the vessels in your forearm and neck would bulge. You would feel as if you were being filled up. No, that you were being overfilled. It was as if your body was taking in more than it could hold. You would not see it, but the others would, as the pain shot down your torso and your slightly full pants from seeing that glorious, sexy construct and then reach your feet... these snake-like tendrils of pure energy that arched off of your legs and boots and burnt the sand about your feet creating glass beneath you and melted the soles of your footwear. Despite the pain of being overcharged, your elemental chakra armor did protect you somewhat from the damages that could have been inflicted had you not been brilliant enough to prepare. It was smart to take precautions, who or whatever was inside of this village in the past or the present was not playing nice.
  • Tama Spent: 2% Maximum HP (-780).
  • Tama is stunned, energy is coming from the structure in and through Tama burning him from the inside out.
  • Tama's Elemental Cloak has prevented any HP losses but his chakra coils are being damaged, 2 has been taken from his chakra modifier [CP: (43+lvl) x chakra control]

Meanwhile Akkuma had a another idea. Make himself more conspicuous by climbing to the top of the wall. The massive construct would never notice him there! You would see something, the city proper for a few moments that is. The city itself appears to be in ruins. The cobbled streets invaded with weeds and covered in a thick layer of dust. This village appears to be a once bustling community, the houses are tightly packed together, narrow alleyways separating these private dwellings. Conjoined slate-roofed buildings made of stone featuring window boxes and stout shutters in once vibrant hues that have faded with time and neglect. Stone buttresses span these narrow, single-lane streets, literally holding apart the upper floors of structures that face each other. At one point these narrow supports acted as pedestrian bridges, now they are used only by the crows, strays and rats. This cramped existence was if nothing else, eerily quiet despite the close quarters. Streetlights dot the crossroads, oil-and-wick copper bowls with glass globes over-top, but they are unlit. Scattered among the personal residences, all dark with curtains drawn and front doors locked tightly there would be several establishments that appeared in better repair than the rest.

However Akkuma would not have much time to get his bearings and learn much more. You alerted the sentinel. The massive stone creature turned its gaze towards YOU. You should have been quieter. You should have made some attempt to conceal your presence and your passage into the village. With a speed that betrays its gargantuan size it comes for you.
Initiating Defensive Protocol 696

It boomed as the blue gems that filled its eye sockets glowed to life and shot out an intense laser-like beam of light!

The Sentinel said:
HP: 100,000
Actions: 4
  • 01-10: Puppet (ranged accuracy) attack. 5,000 Physical damage that also causes one instance of Suppression.
  • 11-20: Bludgeoning (melee accuracy) attack. 5,000 Physical damage that also elevates the Called Shot level of a random limb by 1 level.
  • 21-30: Illusory (gen DC) attack. 2,500 Illusionary damage that causes the target to take 20% more damage for two rounds.
  • 31-40: Fire (spell accuracy) attack. 5,000 Fire damage that also sets the target "afire" dealing 1,000 damage each round for two rounds.
  • 41-50: Water (spell accuracy) attack. 5,000 Water damage that also causes the target to have a 28% chance to Auto-Fail each action for two rounds
  • 51-60: Earth (spell accuracy) attack. 5,000 Earth damage that also binds the target for one round with a 40% base chance to escape per 2 AP spent.
  • 61-70: Lightning (spell accuracy) attack. Lightning Fire damage that also lowers the target's maximum AP by 20% for two rounds.
  • 71-80: Wind (spell accuracy) attack. 5,000 Wind damage that also elevates the target's Bleeding level by one.
  • 81-90: Non-elemental (spell accuracy) attack. 5,000 Non-elemental damage that can't be reduced.
  • 91-00: Roll twice and make both attacks simultaneously.
Awareness: 15
Stealth: Cannot Enter
Binds: Cannot be Bound
Healing: Self repairs. Once it reaches 0 health, it starts to rewire and rebuild. It repairs 20% each round until it is rebuild. However, the two eyes are its source of power, if the eyes are destroyed after the sentinel is taken down (1000 health each) then the sentinel cannot rebuild.
Barriers: double damage against barriers
Arenas: May enter or exit an arena jutsu for 2 actions (using smart actions to do so)

The creature would make all 4 of its attacks on Akkuma this round as he is the one that has gotten his attention. (17, 43,30,3)
  1. 11-20: Bludgeoning (melee accuracy) attack. 5,000 Physical damage that also elevates the Called Shot level of a random limb by 1 level.
    • Attack (Construct) 7 HIT
    • Evasion (Akkuma) 1
    • Auto-dodge chance (Akkuma) 29
    • Sprained hands
  2. 41-50: Water (spell accuracy) attack. 5,000 Water damage that also causes the target to have a 28% chance to Auto-Fail each action for two rounds
    • Attack (Construct) 9 25% hit
    • Evasion (Akkuma) 14
    • Auto-dodge chance (Akkuma) 82
    • No secondary effect takes place on a partial hit.
  3. 11-20: Bludgeoning (melee accuracy) attack. 5,000 Physical damage that also elevates the Called Shot level of a random limb by 1 level.
    • Attack (Construct) 9 Hit
    • Evasion (Akkuma) 5
    • Auto-dodge chance (Akkuma) 95
    • Sprained Neck
  4. 01-10: Puppet (ranged accuracy) attack. 5,000 Physical damage that also causes one instance of Suppression.
    • Attack (Construct) 1 Hit
    • Evasion (Akkuma) 2
    • Auto-dodge chance (Akkuma) 18
    • Suppression effect is irrelevant

!
  • Tama is being actively damaged by the door and has been stunned, if someone performs an action that knocks him back (must cost at least 1 AP) it would be considered an automatic hit/success.
  • Akkuma has gotten the attention of the sentinel and it has started to attack Akkuma. Either assist Akkuma in fighting the sentinel, draw the attention away from Akkuma before he gets himself killed, use him as a decoy to enter the village or get him off that wall and hope that the sentinel will stop attacking once Akkuma is on the 'right' side of the wall.

The door would not open based on a verbal component. Beneath the helmet, Sousuke would almost make a frowning face. Oracles were not simple people, especially if one were to use Michi/Fuu and Kuro as the example. The Steward would continue considering things as Yatamaru had arrived. He would look over to his fellow Journeyman. "Not the sort that unlocks to a verbal component."<i></i> He answered Yatamaru. He stroked his chin. There were perhaps other entrances into the city. They were just at this particular one. The mechanical man considered going to explore the other walls and the entry points. The phrase might have been part of something bigger. There was also the notion to consider that the password is the secret, could be a reference to the fact that the door was made out of a metal that was secret to a Journeyman, and that melting it was something only a Journeyman knew. That was sort of a secret.

In all of this, Sousuke would turn to his side and watch as Tama was stuck. Not moving. He was gathering power from the building, but ... he was smoking? That was concerning. The Steward would say nothing at first as he was trying to considering what it was here that going on. Tama was being, as Yume once put it, reckless. The Steward would raise his hand and conjure a series of chakra shields. He would move the shields to intercept the energy. He would look to see if Tama would start convulsing or if he was injured. Things would only get worse as Akkuma then decided to go up the wall. At this point Sousuke would poke at his forehead with his index finger. Excellent. Stupendous even. He would look over to Harupia. "Akkuma has ... acquired the attention of a guardian. "<i></i> He paused and considered a number of things. He turned to Harupia, "Could you gently knock Akkuma off the wall, so that the ... golem ... sentinel ... automaton stops attacking him?"<i></i> Sousuke quietly considered another item. It was cobalt iron. Melting the door could be an option. Sousuke would hold up his hand he would, then open his palm and proceed to blast the door with plasma energy. He was going to see if he was going to be able to melt the door without having to exhaust his reserves. Maybe the secret was knowing the heat to blast it? "Nothing ventured ... nothing gained."<i></i> He spoke as he proceeded to open fire upon the door with plasma.

Actions
-Raising a Master Rank Chakra Shield to intercept the energy going into Tama
-Blast the door using Master Rank Hyper Beam

Haru's endeavors didn't yield much of a resaukt...though he could feel the faint glow and flow of the energy within the walls of the as he focused on the surroundings, which must have meant that the sheer amount of it was staggering...but seemingly nothing right under their feet. As he abandoned the attempt he heard a voice call out to them, turning his head to see yet another Shinobi Joining their group. AS Sosuke and Tama inspected the door he would wave back to him saying "Well Met! And yes, that the plan. We've been sent here to figure out what's inside...and perhaps more importantly, try to snuff out whatever elements were trying to do so before we got here... Did you follow us or were you inspecting the walls from different sides?" he asked while trying to fool over the answer to the riddle on the door... And that was about the time things went ...sideways, to put it lightly.

Seemed Tama was trying to intervene with the energy in the walls a bit to close and was paying the price, while Akkuma decided it would be a good idea to scale the wall in sight of the Stone Sentinel...and he was wrong. He was on the move before Sosuke called out to him, already having a plan in mind as he scaled the wall while the Golem unleashed its attack. Right before he was at the top he would unleash the technique he was preparing. Suddenly, three gusts of wind swirled and in a poof of smoke three additional figures looking like Harupia would emerge and scale past the wall deeper into the complex, trying to distract the Golem. The actual Harupia would stay back and try to grab Akkuma by his clothing and yank him back down, along the time Sosuke fired his blast of energy at the door...yeah, they were off to a good start altogether.

By the time the scientist realized his experiment had gone AWOL it was already too late. The pride in his brain said that he probably could of dodged the rebound if he hadn’t been so fascinated by the energy inside; the rest of his consciousness just screamed.

Now Tama had been electrocuted before. That was nothing new on the list of pains he had gone through and even just recently got a big shock during some tinkering. Yet the power that flowed through his body and paralyzed his senses was far more than what he had prepared for and at least a hundred times worse than any shock he had been dealt. By the time Sousuke used his technique, presuming it worked, the doctor had some smoke rolling out of his mouth and touches of blood on the corners of his eyes.
Dr. Ryuu’s knees buckled the moment he was released and hit the lifeless ground with an unceremonious ‘thump’. Yet, hit with what would have at least severely injured any other man, the scientist only coughed a little blood once before attempting to stand himself up. The first five or six footfalls felt like a thousand needles in every pore of his flesh. Just as his body had managed to heal away the damage and he could start thinking straight again the foreboding sense of doom weighed heavy on his senses.

The good doctor craned his neck back to look and see the pant-shrinking monstrosity, now attacking Akkuma. Of course in a normal setting, or at least one without the Steward, perhaps, Tama would have simply sat back and watched with lustful curiosity on how the creature battled. The demon sage didn’t appear to have too many problems dodging around the few attacks the giant doled but, this was not the time for experimentation. Of course he could also help in the retrieving of the man above but instead the scientist casually walked next to Sousuke, gave him thanks, and then helped him prepare the next simple step forward. He had faith that the men that had gathered here could afford themselves a single man in fending off the stone being. Tama was here for selfish reasons after all.

Dropping into a crouch beside Sousuke the scientist focused chakra into his fingertip and began to write a barrier jutsu into the ground in front of the Steward’s feet. He then shifted a knee underneath him to hold his body up as his hand hovered over the strange runes that still required a slap of chakra to activate.

As the group settled in together, pondering and puzzling over how they would get into the massive structure before them, Yatamaru was asked a question by one Sunaku Harupia (though Yatamaru didn’t know that’s who he was at the time). He took the opportunity to fill in his teammates on the things he’d learned about the city. ”The name's Oda Yatamaru, to those who don't know me." He was referring to Haru, Tama, and possibly Akkuma, though he did nothing to indicate such. "I got here a few hours ago, and used the time to do a bit of scouting; walked around the outside perimeter of the city, and learned a couple useful things.” Bending down, Yatamaru began to trace out the circular perimeter in the sand and marked the four main entrances: North, East, South, and West. ”I arrived at this entrance, then went counter-clockwise towards the North. It seems each of the entrances are bolted tightly shut with the same Cobalt Iron that this one is, though they seem to each have unique methods of entry.”

“The Northern Gate has some sort of keypad cipher, or a passcode, to get in, along with an odd audio sample as a clue.”
He shared a quick sample with his teammates, in case it made more sense to any of them. ”The Western Gate seems very similar to this one, only the words are a little different — </B><B>“"كلمه السر هي "سر” as opposed to "كلمه السر هي سر", or "The Password is 'Secret'" as opposed to "The Password is Secret". This is an Oracle Library, though, so I expect there's some layer of truth mixed in with the trickery."</COLOR><i></i> Sousuke had just tried something to this effect, however, with minimal results. Speaking the word <COLOR color="orange">“سر” did not seem to be enough. Perhaps it was not the word, itself, but the meaning which was important? Yatamaru thought back to the way in which Oracles he’d known (mostly Michi) used secrets, hoping for some sort of inspiration, but finding none at the moment. Shrugging to himself, he carried on relaying the info he’d found. ”Finally, there’s the Sourthern Gate. Never seen anything like it before, honestly: a mirror-man, in a mirror-world, was guarding the entranceway. He seemed unable to hear me, or at least did not respond to any questions, and appeared to block any means of entry. He spoke in Runic Terran, though nothing he said was anything other than pleasant chit-chat. As far as I could tell, there are no other ways in, out, or over, really.” He was referring to that thing making its rounds inside the wall. ”So long as we stay on this side of the wall, everything should be okay…”

Just as he said so, two things happened at once: Akkuma jumped up onto the top of the wall, attracting the attention of the giant golem, and Tama was blasted by a ridiculous amount of energy coming from the wall itself. The latter case seemed to resolve itself quite quickly. Yatamaru noted that, while the man seemed to have sustained some level of damage, he appeared generally better than he ought normally to be. The puppeteer had worried, for a second, he’d need to start healing allies that had damaged themselves too much, yet Tama seemed to be quite the trooper. No action needed on that front, yet. The former case, though? Akkuma seemed, currently, to need some help.

Haru jumped into action, sending a flurry of clones in as a distraction while he nabbed the mercenary and dragged him back down to safety. Impressed by the man’s quick actions, Yatamaru’s reaction was comparatively minor: with a flick of his wrist, a few chakra threads would stretch almost imperceptibly up towards the action. Should either Akkuma, or Haru, need a quick pull out of harm’s way, his chakra threads would be there to guide them. He wasn’t sure they’d be necessary, considering Haru’s clear skill and reflexes, yet it didn’t hurt him to be precautious.

”So, as far as I can see, we’re opting for the ‘official’ entrance in, hmm?” His tone was a tad cheeky, noting Sousuke’s attempted plan to simply melt through the Cobalt Iron. With the earlier attempt at solving the riddle having achieved nothing, and the clues provided not shedding any more light on the issue than before, Yatamaru thought Sousuke may actually be onto something. Should the iron melt, or show any signs of being susceptible to outside influence, the puppeteer would join in. ”Make some room, my friend. It’s time to turn up the heat in here.” A quick flourish of handseals, the straining sound of a paper scroll being torn open at break-neck speeds, and a quick flash of smoke were the only warning signs as to what the puppeteer was up to. Moments later a rather humanoid-looking puppet had appeared, with hair a deep red and strange openings in its hands. This was his puppet, “4L4Z . the wicked”.

From the openings in the puppet's hands a great flame erupted. Though not as concentrated a blast as Sousuke’s plasma beam, the flames from Yatamaru’s puppet should be hot enough to make an impact. Even going so far as to add some explosive sparks in with the mixture, relying on his puppet’s natural affinity for the Explosion Element, Yatamaru would do as much as he could to aid in their breaking-in. And if this didn’t work? Well, they’d get there when they got there.
