Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

The action heightened as objects began to drop off the side of the dreadnaught. Looking more closely it appeared they were the crew of the ship. As some fell into the water and didn't reappear, though who landed on the ice got up like the huge fall was nothing and began moving in, going after Kurama as they made to attack him. The younger shinobi seemed experienced enough as he managed to swap places with an object to avoid an attack which had managed to surprise him. As Miraku stood there contemplating their options, their leader decided to head out on his own to try and help out, leaving Miraku alone with just the younger boys summon, a clone of Byakko and Wokou as the rest were all attempting to do other things. Yoake was attempting to rescue Kurama, while Byakko kept himself hidden as a senbon on Hoshi's body, using his clones to head towards the giant enemy ship; to do what, Miraku was unsure, but judging by the amount of crew that jumped overboard, they probably had plenty more crew members on ship, as they wouldn't just disembark any large chunk of their crew to defend the ship and leave it poorly defended on deck.

Seeing how these enemies moved and attacked, it was clear they weren't just pushovers, though they didn't seem overly strong either; their numbers being the main concern. It seemed like it would be unwise to try and board their ship openly, especially now that they no longer had the element of surprised. As such, Miraku didn't expect Byakko's clones to last long if they made it on board, but it was worth the attempt to at least possibly scout more. Truly, Miraku didn't have many options now, as in this situation he would need to stay on board their vessle in order to defend it from any attacks. The one that fell into the water still worried Miraku because if any of them were able to swim, it was possible they would move towards "Her Lucky Bones" and try to attack the ship, meaning defending it was the best option, especially with his raised awareness in general.

Opening up his communication again, Miraku began to speak to the group once more, "If they were willing to drop that many crew members, letting so many of them not even make it, they most likely have a lot more crew members on board." relaying his thoughts to the group to keep the strategic thinking going. "You guys should get back here and we should retreat with our intel and reinforcements and gague their combat abilities as you fall back." he continued, hoping that would give them more information. Even if they didn't know the enemies true numbers, making an estimate based on their actions, and knowing their fighting strength would give them plenty of info on whether they'd need more members, or to come back later with better stealth if their own abilities were enough to combat them. Right now, with the loss of their advantageous element of surprise, they needed to regroup and try again later.

Miraku turned to Wokou, "Get ready to take off once they get back to the ship. We'll have to regroup and figure out our next move once we get some distance from this boat." he told the old man, as he turned back to his surrounding, watching the water and edges of the boat, trying to make sure they were safe for now, and preparing to defend if anything were to attack the ship.

There was a method behind the madness; a scheme revealed in those slowly passing seconds. One after another, these soldiers continued to pour out of the warship, seemingly without end. Glowing red eyes dotted the horizon, visible through the fog and only increasing with every racing heartbeat of their witnesses.

The recon squad was facing an army, or so they realized as their opposition continued to grow and the odds of escape dwindled. With orders to withdraw shared between the members of their party, the team had to fight back the oncoming droves of enemies, or risk their boat being overrun before they could break away from the icy terrain. Tactically, the shinobi prioritized creating defensives to separate themselves from the oncoming horde, using ninjutsu to force the opportunity into play. It was his doing that led them to this place, or so Kaji thought obsessively as he slowed the pace of his back-peddling. He split off from Hoshi, knowing that Shu remained hidden still on Hoshi with an aim of protecting him. Knowing the pair would fare well together, Kaji channeled a blaze of emeraldine chakra, swelling into a torrent of green flames over Eelspine— this caused the undead to gravitate towards him as he removed himself from the shadows to make a fine target.

The undead charging after Hoshi and Shu were upon them quickly, only to be swallowed by a hazy mist, shrouding the battlefield in a thickening shroud long enough to break the formation of the attackers. In the distance, the sound of massive machines firing ammunition snapped as a heavy bolt took flight, but the shinobi on the ground had no time to be concerned with it. Through the fog came one armored dead man with a rusty kunai in hand. Shu’s caught him though, binding the skeletal man in a sphere of quickly forming water, so cold that it began to harden as the seconds passed. Another charging corpse flanked Hoshi from the opposite side, only to receive a stiff jabbing palm with shattered its jaw completely, and half of its face until it could no longer see. The skull-faced opponent was left swinging aimlessly, easily abandoned.

The squad’s collective efforts created an opening for one final play at gaining more intel, thought it was a desperate one, to say the least. As the undead formed their broken offensive, two water clones made their dash towards the opposing warship. It was a defensive masterpiece by all accounts; towering over one-hundred feet in a steep climb. The duo of duplicates had to speed upwards while avoiding opposing undead who attempted to intercept them amidst their own suicidal drops. Both clones narrowly avoid collisions with fate, only to find a waiting horde once they wormed through the steel spikes lining the ship’s edges. Both clones were quickly seized in dog piles despite their efforts, as the numbers were simply too great to avoid entirely. Their vision was stifled by a sea of bodies but encountered a purely optimized ship surface wherever they managed to see. Undead shinobi were manning crossbows large enough to fire bolts heavy enough to sink Her Lucky Bones, any did sink many ships before her. They saw machinery yet none of it seemed operational, just quiet and still. Every form swarming around these scouting clones seemed the same with only minor variations: crusted, broken skin and bones with rags and old armor covering them. But then one creature stood apart from the rest, donned in different attire and a semblance of elegance different from all the rest. She was a tall, slim woman with a design that might have been beautiful during her lifetime. She was surely dead and animated like the rest of them, but she had a certain vivacity which attracted the eye like even the dimmest beacon in the darkest night. Her muscular structure was far more intact than the others, with veins glowing with the essence of life: chakra. Her skin was pasty and pale, and yard long raven hair was straight and flowing from her head. She wore a spindly black headdress appropriate for stabbing if she were only brutish enough to headbutt, but something her general vibe suggested otherwise. Her body was half-covered in a dull leather suit, which was tightly fitted with a webbed pattern and a jagged pauldron over one shoulder. Half of her upper body was entirely exposed— not naked, but torn open where she presumably took a mortal wound in her past. Her chest cavity was exposed with a still heart glowing faintly. She was apparently well-rounded with molding jutsu as well, as the last thing the clones witnessed before their demise was a flurry of hand seals. She manifested a single Fuma shuriken of ice which levitated around her in a single rotation before slicing cleanly through the clones and the undead who bound them.

Across the battlefield, the snapping firing of the Dreadnought’s juggernaut crossbows was hitting their mark, as massive bolts sailed towards Her Lucky Bones. Twice, the monstrous bolts collided with Nature’s Guard which protected the ship, causing the barrier to rapidly intercept them and quake with the full force of the seaborne defense. It seemed as if it wouldn’t be able to handle much more. Wokou was nervously working his ship, trying to maneuver but the ice was practically pinning them in place.

Near the center of the chaos, Kaji’s flames were burning hot, and he called forth a powerful conjuring of his chakra. He slung Eelspine, and out from it flew a torrent of emeraldine fire swirling, and flying to form a multi-headed dragon which struck across the icy landscape. “Fire Style: Hydra Dragon Flame Bomb” roared the masked commander, as his green light serves as a symbol of hope and resistance. The multi-headed dragon flew high before spiraling and spreading, barreling down across the horizon in a line upon the undead horde. The massive ice cap was split in two, and several enemies were obliterated in the show of force as Kaji created a temporary divide. “Now we can escape” Kaji figured, only to cut the idea loose the moment a giant cross bolt skirted over his shoulder, nearly skewering him. Though he created a divide on the ice, the ship still had means to attack, and more undead had already crossed. Defiantly, another charged him, only to be cut down in a ball of fire from the tip of his sword; a dragon flame.

Near the edge of the Dreadnought’s deck, the woman in black approached to survey the skirmish in progress and began making motions obscured by the incredible distance between her and her foes. Intentions cleared as a hurricane of frigid wind swole in an instant. An Ice Blast plunged the ice cap in a worsened arctic hellishness, coming for every standing shinobi and their little boat. Shu was on the defensive and managed to defend himself and Hoshi, determining that fire was the bane of their enemy and deflecting the assault with a flame shield. The depth of his chakra was immense, and his flames consumed the attack. Miraku also managed a shield of chakra worthy of protecting Her Lucky Bones, adding a layer of protection just strong enough to withstand the force when combined with what remained of Shu’s weakened barrier. All that remained was Kaji, who was ill-prepared for the blast and was caught in the force, nearly vanishing in the vortex of frost.

The counterattack was a powerful one, but out from the abyssal waters created between the shattered ice cap came a churning, creeping creation. The debris from the Arctic blast hadn’t even cleared before something tremendous and monstrous began to surface from the sea slowly. An amalgamation of dead creatures was taking shape beneath the waves and slowly rising, combining the many sea life carcasses into something gigantic. It appeared as if mere undead soldiers had become the least of their problems… It seemed as if Her Lucky Bones might not live up to the name after all.

The undead became more aggressive as they continue to fall through the depths of the ocean covering the icy clear waters in darkness like oil. Shu continued to observe Hoshi while his clones at the docked perused the area. Unfortunately, the clandestine duo did not last very long as their bodies were ripped in half from a barrage of ice. It was took quick for them to realized what had happened. Now, the team was back at square still not gaining anything from the mission. The entire mission was meant to be a simple reconnaissance mission but they were doing more than what they thought was necessary.

Hoshi attempted to halt the horde of the undead by masking their sight. Of course, the dead did not need eyes to see. They continue further unabated by the white seam of water and air. Sounds of exploding ammunition could be heard from all directions which caught Hoshi off guard from an attack. An armored undead came chargining in with a kuani in hand trying to rip his throat a new hole. The attack was intercepted by a hand enveloped in water that appeared behind Hoshi. The man stopped in his traps as if being blocked by an invisible force field. As the man's movement began to ossify the hand began to grown into what appeared to be Shu. The man was now incase in water like a flower in a vase. If the man was alive he would be suffocating. As long as the body was preserve Shu would be able to analyze it but not in this chaos.

Shu started his retreat back to the ship as he continue to protect himself and Hoshi from harm. He could see that there was barely any time left especially for Her Lucky Bones. There was going to the a point where it could not resist the continual onslaught. Shu could feel the shield that he put up draining as he got closer. Kaji was no where to be found perhaps still guarding the ship's attacks from elsewhere. Miraku was still on the ship attempting to bolster the ship's defense with his own technique. As Shu reached the ship he attempted to examine the undead skeleton to the best of his abilities hoping that he could acquire some knowledge that could be of use to them. There was much to be gain from something else among the other dead. A woman dressed in conspicuous attire that it was hard not too see. She was much more lively than her companions with her vibrant red hair and coruscant skin. There was some life energy in her perhaps it was the same energy that was animated herself and her brethren. Something or someone had to be responsible for all of this but how were they are going find out with these odds?

Using stealth was no longer an option and they could not brute force their way toward her .There were too many of them to get any close it would suicide to try without a plan. These thoughts were interrupted by a whirling ice ball that slowly flew toward them.

"I suggest we make a tactical retreat." Shu remarked toward the two still residing in the boat. "No point trying to kill the undead without know how to kill it."

Things were breaking down quickly as the unexpected assault continued. Miraku was placed in a position which he was not apt to handle. The protection of their ship was probably the last thing he should have been doing as he didn't know many protection or barrier jutsu due to his reliance on bolstering his speed and ability to dodge attacks rather than nullify or weaken them. As Wokou tried to maneuver the boat, Miraku began trying to think of what they needed to do next. The assaults kept coming with bolts and ice attacks seemingly being used, or at least what he could tell from this distance.

The ice and coldness brought him back to his time in water country. He has spent so much time out there that he was used to having to be in conditions like this, where his actions were slower than usual due to his need to circulate his chakra and maintain the flow to keep his body from shutting down. Although he himself would be able to stop circulating the chakra for a small amount of time without incurring any negative effects to his body, he wanted to avoid having to do so if possible in case he would need to do it later, because he could only do it for so long before he'd need to start again to stop himself from falling unconscious. He had plenty of experience with that as well as his training with Okuro had taught him.

The memory of his first time returning to the water country to continue his training with his master began to play out in his head. He was so young back then and so inexperienced that he thought himself stronger than he truly was. This wasn't unusual for young shinobi; to be cocky about their abilities until they were put in their place, and he was. Okuro pushed the boy probably harder than he should have, avoiding all his attacks allowing Miraku to tire himself out until he was having a hard time keeping his circulation going and then finishing him off with a blow which would have caused serious damage to most shinobi, causing him to pass out and wake up a few days later by the fire. Okuro was sitting across from him with a smirk on his face. "So, do you know why you're laying here now?" Okuro had asked the boy as he sat up, unsure how to answer -- before the older man continued. "You tried to stay and fight when you were completely overwhelmed, and should have realized it and retreated sooner." The words echoed in Miraku's head as he snapped back to the current moment of chaos as the others continued their actions.

Okuro's words seemed to fully fit this situation. Although it wasn't so much them being completely overwhelmed as being unprepared with the team falling apart when it truly mattered. Miraku decided he would have to do what he could to protect the ship in it's current position. He wasn't adept with Fire jutsu so he couldn't help free the boat; one of the others would have to do that. But what he could do as one who had completely mastered Earth Jutsu and the element in general was create a temporary protection for the ship with the positioning they had. He quickly wove his handseals with just one hand before opening his mouth as earth would begin to spew out of it, creating a wall on top of the ice between Her Lucky Bones and the Dreadnaught. It would be heavy and would eventually sink the ice it would stand on due to its weight, but it was the best he could do in the current situation to protect the ship from the kinds of attacks they were under. Using his Earthslide Wall jutsu, he created a large wall which could withstand these attacks. The issue with this was that in order to maintain the wall, Miraku would be unable to use his taijutsu while keeping it up for protection which was terrible for his fighting style, but would have to do while waiting for the others to return to the ship. He could then finally hear Byakko's voice calling for a retreat as well; finally something Miraku agreed with.

Miraku hoped the others heard and would listen and return so that they could take off, and give extra defenses to the ship that it needed. After seeing some of the capabilities of this team, it was obvious to Miraku why they were chosen for this mission, but it seemed like each member played the wrong role instead of what they should have been playing once they spotted the ship. A tactical retreat was certainly the best option, now that they knew what they were up against, it was still possible for them to come back this day with a proper plan and people playing the right roles and obtain the knowledge they really needed or even find a way to stop this ship without calling in backup, but that would remain to be seen based on the opinions of the other teammates and their thoughts on a proper plan that they could execute. First and foremost though was the successful escape of everyone and the ship to make sure they would be able to use Wokou again hopefully.

The numbers would continue to grow without end. Hoshi managed to strike an undead Shinobi shattering his face, and his water jutsu too proving useful in his escape. The sight of his doujutsu catching view of an incredible display of art and fortitude by Kaji sensei, who in fell swoop took out a mass number. Somehow, throughout this blistering ice cold, Hoshi began to work up a sweat, almost freezing itself to his face before he wiped it away.

Loud thundering sounds cracked the silence of the seas, triggering a large bolt barreling through the sky, aimed for Her Lucky Bones. Another sick thud was the bolt colliding with a barrier. Hoshi grimaced and winced at the same time. He could see the numbers of the army increasing. Hoshi would continue to retreat at a high speed, there was no need to look back for his doujutsu could already picture the scene. That is until the numbers increase to an amount that caused Hoshi to heighten the speed of his movements at the expense of becoming winded.

It was at the moment Hoshi felt a tug in his hair. He slightly turned his head to get a side eye view while still on the move. The temperature dropped even further, and in a relatively large flume of smoke reappeared Byakko. Hoshi gasped as a massive ice storm was upon them and he was all out of cards at the moment. His teeth gritted as he turned around to fully brace himself, the pale hues of the young Shinobi wide, full of worry. That is, until Byakko from out of his pocket summoned a massive flaming safeguard. It was blanketed by the snow but to no avail as the flames almost absorbed the ice, liquefied it and instantly evaporated with a hiss. Hoshi gave a large sigh of exhale.

He was still unseen for the moment, his active camo coming to use. He shook his head and looked to Byakko.

“Thank you! Byakko, maybe you should assist Kaji Sensei. I can return back to the boat with Soku and the others.”

Hoshi looked toward Kaji, the once stalwart hero was cringing. Alone in the fray, against the odds of many. Hoshi winced himself and clicked his teeth. Never in his life, had he felt so useless and disappointed at his own lack of experience and talent. Hoshi would turn and pick up his pace, back forth to the boat which was taking heavy damage. Hoshi zoned in on the boat and saw that it was still afloat. He was making his way through the ice rather quickly, but he could tell why the boat was pinned. Hoshi decided to make a quick decision. Once he was in close proximity of the boat he would stop in turn. He made himself to be clear in view of Soku, Wokou, and Mizumi. Hoshi would activate his headset.

“Soku, Ka-!”

The boy was cut short from an abrupt shift in the ice beneath him, complimented by a rumbling roar. His heart rate jumped easily over 100 beats as the ice cracked beneath him, exposing the rushing frozen waters and a behemoth rising from below. Hoshi would have slipped had he not descended and backflipped onto another ice platform. He was now cut off from the boat, but hopefully still unknown to this new predator. Kaji was still left alone, Byakko was here with him. The Shinobi had no room for fear, only plan of action. The flame of his resolve began to heat up. He performed a one handed seal to maintain the circulation of his chakra. He was out of his league, there was only one way for him to even attempt to even the odds.

His eyes fixated on the behemoth intently. Hoshi began dueling the behemoth, simultaneously lowering himself in the Jyuuken stance underneath the veil of the rushing waves, hidden hopefully. He would take the preemptive strike against his foe, Hoshi would leap high into the sky, almost eye level with the enormous bone creature. His eyes, flexing just as much as his right arm, which he retracted and tucked beneath his underarm. Immediately a sudden surge of chakra into his palm would leak and become visible and a pale blue fiery aura as Hoshi shouted.

“Eight trigrams!”

He would launch his arm toward the beast, the palm no where near connecting with any bone. The fiery aura would intensify before he it all disappeared. A split second the later the deluge of chakra would reappear in a flash food of funneled chakra, catapulted in one direction sharply at the bone behemoth.

“Air Palm!”

Hoshi would more than likely be out of stealth now, as he landed, with one foot, he’d instantly kick off, and gain more distance. Hoshi then smirked and looked back to Byakko and Kaji. He slid to a horse stance, in a New York minute of chakra manipulation his levels would peak exponentially. The very ice beneath him would even give way. Finally, enough of his chakra had been built up at certain chakra points. Hoshi grunted as he exerted his own physical life source from his heart into those three chakra points. The gate of wonder, the gate of view, and the gate of limit.

“Hachimon, TONKOU!”

A sudden release, a burst of energy and aura appeared around the young Shinobi. An aura of willpower, evaporated sweat mixed with the mist of the environment. The cloud’s pale blue beast has finally awaken. Hoshi didn't relent for a second, he charged back at the beast, preparing his defenses first and foremost. He would play as a distraction for Byakko to deliver the finishing blow. He made sure he approached the behemoth and in clear view, easy target.

The woman in black stood upon the edge of the Dreadnought, overseeing the undead counteroffensive like a general watching their army crush the enemy. She would have been smiling if she were capable of joy, but even then, little emotion could have been perceived from her face. She stared across the horizon with gray eyes glowing in a teal shade from the mystical domination which gave her unlife. Half a pair of full lips blackened by charcoal before her death were stuck in a perpetual frown. The other half of her face was absence, revealing muscle blackened by frostbite, and veins glowing with the same spell which illuminated her eyes. This mysterious creature raised her right arm, which was mostly bone with essential muscle mass and tendons left to allow its function. With the appending pointed forward, she was ordering for the undead battalion to focus its efforts on the pea-sized boat. She suddenly spoke aloud, although it barely took a whisper for the mass of undead to heed her commands “Kaptu ilin ... la mastro volas la interlopers kun korpoj nerompitaj.” Her orders were spoken in some long lost language and echoed in so many undead minds, and strangely, of the party members, only Shuu could hear her baritone speech as well.

Meanwhile, the shinobi of the Hidden Cloud were on the move and so were the undead which nipped at their heels. It nothing but a moment for the Bone Behemoth to finish taking gargantuan, humanoid form. Its mass was incredible and so heavy that the ice cap couldn’t possibly sustain it. The fiendish creature stood taller than the dreadnought, and each lumbering step it took shattered the icy battlefield until it made navigation an even more treacherous affair. The destructive force replaced the threat of the undead soldiers and replaced them with difficult terrain: the icescape became radical chunks of glaciers rapidly rising, falling, and listing in the water at drastically changing angles.

Fortunately for the crew still aboard Her Lucky Bones, being in the direct path of the behemoth meant being shielded from the onslaught of the missile-sized crossbolts. Only the approaching giant was an immediate threat. Aiming to worsen the situation, the fog of winter continued to thicken until oxygen was beginning to thin as if they were on a mountaintop. The colossal being on the march became an unmistakable black shadow moving closer and closer.

With Kaji missing behind the white curtain, Hoshi slowed his escape and turned back, full of power and focused rage. It was evident that this behemoth would reach the boat before they’d manage to get it free. The young shinobi must have known that this threat had to be slowed or all would be lost, but they could not place the burden on their Captain once his emerald flames vanished in the cold. With a leap empowered by his releasing of three chakra gate, Hoshi could have been mistaken for taking flight as he reached a level position across from the colossal conjuration. He unleashed an air palm on the creature, aiming well as it moved mid grasp. The attack landed onto its chest just shy of the right shoulder and landed with a mighty explosion. Thousands of bones were torn free along with rotted muscle mass, causing the arm to rip itself free from its own weight. A tidal wave shook the scene as the arm hit surface and the behemoth leaned backward from being knocked off balance.

“We have movement,” Wokou said excitedly as Her Lucky Bones suddenly pushed free from the pinching ice. Alas, the fleeting moments of escape had arisen with their escape vessel sailing around obstacles on an express route away from the fray. The boat was still in view for the members of the squad still running for it, however, not all of them could be seen making the dash. Yoake was still hidden or lost, perhaps in a veil of stealth or made a casualty of the cold. Kurama and Byakko were accounted for and inbound towards Her Lucky Bones. Soku and Mizumi were still aboard the boat and Wokou were steering, not looking back. The time to stay or go had come: it was now or possibly never.

The resolve his warrior spirit, formed in cannon ball of spiraling chakra slammed into the chest of the giant. It’s arm falling to the wayside creating a wave which freed the boat from its confinement. Yoake still hidden behind the veil of concern and doubt, Hoshi allowed himself to descend. The bandages around his arms letting loose, seemingly coming to life. A tear fell from the corner of his left eye and froze before it fell off his chin. He believed Yoake was gone, the fury in his heart burned with the intensity of a hundred suns, bursting into a proud rage.

“Mizumi!!!!”

His voice would pierce through the fog, Mizumi the silent who stood stoic upon the boat would raise her head quickly in response. She clasped two hands together forming a water seal and humming a mantra. This low baritone note of humming would affect the very vibrations around them. The result would be the water beneath the boat rumbling, Mizumi had summoned another wave to carry the boat farther away from the dreadnought and behemoth, ultimately, farther away from the fleeing Shinobi. Hoshi’s executive decision was to get the boat completely out of harm’s way while immobilizing the giant. Hoshi nodded once the view of his eyes caught glimpse of Mizumi making a move.

“Yoake San…”

His bandages fell to floor like loose leaves… His right hand reached for his sword, the ninjato short blade. It was swift for quick offense but mainly used to fortify his defense and counterattack. It also held a long spindle of super resilient steel ninja wire. Hoshi closed his eyes for a second opening them once more, finding the behemoth in sight who was gathering itself after stumbling.

“You’re just big for nothing… You undead panzee!!!”

He dashed toward him, at high speeds his feet were fleeted and light as a feather. It was easy to move through the white fog, Hoshi’s chakra circulation kept his body heat up, plus having his chakra gates active release an aura of burning sweat and sheer will power. His blood was boiling, therefore at this moment he felt not lick of this cold, only a burning vengeance. Hoshi threw his ninjato, which would pierce an ice block some distance away from the behemoth, the same time it released its wire Hoshi would take grip. He leaped to adjacent position of sword, behind the behemoth while wrapping the wire around his ankle, seeking to entangle the giant. Hoshi would then leap back to his sword if fate so it allowed it. He’d sheate the short sword after severing the end of the wire, a few one hand seals and Hoshi would manipulate the element of lightning to lace the wire. Slowly it would travel to the behemoth and burst around its ankle.

“Tch! Whether this works or not… I must retreat.”

Hoshi would then turn and make his way back to the boat. The fog was making it difficult to see, but hopefully the aura from his gates would be enough to evaporate incoming fog and open a field of view. Everyone was scattered, Hoshi was beginning to worry who was truly manning this warship and if they’d make it back altogether. He gritted his teeth taking large bounds toward the general direction of “Her Lucky Bones.”

Mizumi back at the boat would continue her jutsu until the wave crashed naturally. The mute would walk to the back of the boat. Her movements were slow and steady, her face blank as a white board. Her pebble black eyes peered into the fleeting fog where comrade and master were in battle fleeing. Her arms would lay calmly at her side, she said nothing, expressed nothing. That is, until her right hand clasped the railing of the boat, rather tightly as it squeaked against her thick coat of fur. She had definitely displayed a feeling of worry. She’d look to Soku, her grip releasing she’d stare blankly before walking back to stand next to the old man.

Things were getting worse by the minute, and it seemed like there was no slowing down. His teammates were finally beginning to make their way back to the ship but were being blocked by a giant behemoth which threatened the ship. It didn't take long for Kurama to take action and unleash his strength upon the monstrous beast, cleaving off its arm causing it lose its balance slightly for the moment. Byakko has captured an enemy and would hopefully return with further information as well. Miraku was slightly irritated with the entire exchange so far as he had been stuck defending the boat due to his teammates initial rush into battle. Holding his position, he maintained the large wall of Earth before him, keeping it up between the ship and the behemoth to defend against it if it were to regain its balance and attempt to attack, or if it moved and the Dreadnaught would attempt another assault. Their final member, their leader Yoake was still nowhere to be seen which was cause for concern. The way things were unfolding, there wasn't much time left to be waiting around for everyone to return.

During the fight, Wokou had managed to get the boat moving out from its previously stuck position and seemed ready to leave already. As the only team member currently on the boat, this worried Miraku further. If worse came to worse, he would be forced to leave on his own with the information for the sake of the village and the country. Something told him they would make it back though. They weren't so weak that they would be stopped from escaping in time -- at least that was what Miraku had taken away from his comrades so far. Things may have been handled poorly that day, but it held no bearing on each members ability to survive.
--
In the following moments, as he waited in anticipation of their return, the constantly maintained circulation of his chakra caused his mind to flash back once again to his time in the wasteland that was Water Country. Heavy breathing, the condensation from his inner breath being exhaled in the cold air visible before his eyes. The chakra in his body being forcibly circulated in order to keep his body warm and moving in such extreme cold. Immediately his eyes darted from the distraction, surveying the surroundings. Being hunted, as was the case plenty of times during his training with Okuro. Unable to identify any threats in the immediate vicinity, Miraku quickly dashed to his right, heading towards a large snowdrift. Ducking behind it for cover, he bent down, staying on his feet but crouching enough to stay hidden. Attempting to catch his breath for a moment, he needed an opportunity to reconsider his options and evaluate his current position before he could continue.

Before he could even finish his first thoughts on his current position, the assault continued. A kunai shot through the snowdrift landing close by. If he had not had protection, or if the weapon had been tossed slightly to the left, Miraku could have been in real trouble. Launching himself from his current position back out into the snow, he covered up further with his white shroud, attempting to camouflage himself such that he could produce some distance between him and the one hunting him and begin to think on his feet. Truly, that was the greatest lesson he had managed to learn from Okuro over his time with him. Thinking on his feet, quicker, more strategic. Being such a quick learner, these things came relatively easy to him, but such aspects were pushed to their limits and enhanced even further such that he would be able to use them in any situation under any kind of pressure, but he was still young and there were no guarantees. Beyond that, he was being pushed to his physical limits. As the hunt continued, his stamina became more and more depleted. His ability to circulate the chakra worsened and everything became more difficult. It was this training which these memories had been accessed for, his current position causing him to think about them, but they were only distractions.
--
Snapping back in a moment, everything had happened so quickly, but it felt much longer in his head. Nothing had really changed on the side of his allies, but the boat was beginning to move more. Looking towards the back, he could see the creature which Kurama had summoned creating waves in an attempt to move the boat to a further position. This would increase their chances of escape with the drawback of making it more difficult for the others to make it back. There wasn't much Miraku could do about it, assuming it was an order from its master, the youngest of their group, he could only accept the boys resolve, and trust that they would still make it back before they would need to leave. More than ever, at this point, Miraku wished he could do more. If only he would have been able to depart from the boat and help out on the battlefield, but filling in the gaps for their survival would have to do.

Being stuck on the boat had given him plenty of time to think about their position, and he felt like he was ready for whatever would come at them, as long as he had a viable way to deal with it. Taking in another deep breath, he exhaled, the condensation visible much like his memories as he stood sternly onboard Her Lucky Bones, watching, waiting. Speaking out over the comms, Miraku gave the update, "The boat is free. Return to ship for retreat," even though the others were already in retreat, he wanted to make sure everyone knew the current situation. Miraku stood there, maintaining his wall as it was slowly sinking, the buoyancy of the ice unable to keep it afloat much longer. If need be, he could release another wall on top of some other ice, but it wouldn't be in as good a position. Otherwise, all he could do was wait. Looking to his side, he could see the summoned otter looking worried. Nodding to it, as it to tell it everything would be okay, he watched as it walked back towards Wokou to wait for the outcome.

None of their attacks were effective against this swarm of abominations, even the counterattack forged by the might of their enemies seem to do no damage. The gargantuan ice rock that had deflected away from Her Lucky Bones quickly drifted toward the edge of the Dreadnought harming no one but emptiness void of the blue waters. The eldritch woman from before had stood ominously in front of the deck as she observed her fabulous army like product leading his orchestra. If she still has her soul it would as if she was overjoyed. She exhorted her commands so furiously that he words seemed to spill out of the undead minds of the solders. As expected, only Shu was able to hear but not able to decipher them as she was speaking in a tongue that Shu had not heard of.

Shu took a moment to calm his mind as much as he did with his body attempting to absorb his surroundings. As the only trained spiritualist it was really all on him to figure out what was going on and to keep his allies alive. The words that the undead woman had spoken was not familiar but he has heard similar words during his long travels after the war right during the start of the common era. He just could not figure out where and if only he could retrieve more information from the dead carcass that laid before him on the boat.

Shu was a man he teetered on the fine line between respecting authority and a common scapegrace. Right now he was really need to take lead. Kaji was a bit young and not as experience especially with spiritual things like this. In fact, the young lad was no where to be found only overshadowed by the gargantuan bone behemoth that continued to rise as the bones from their deceased built on top of each other like toy logs.

Hoshi gathered his courage to strike down the threat with his notorious Hyuuga taijutsu causing thousands of femurs to explode out of the bony mass. It was enough at least to give them time to find Kenji and fallback so that they can gather a better plan. If there ever get a second chance Hoshi would not do any stunt again or Shu would give him a training session that death could not save him.

Miraku stood in his position ossified for a while as his thoughts wondered either bewildered by the situation at hand or some other event had grasped his attention. Whatever it was he agreed with Shu, the only course of action for the team was to retreat. They only hoped that Kaji was still alive.

"Hoshi-san. Use your summon to find Kaji and back to the ship."

Caught in a point of impact, Kaji was incapable of evading the shower of ice which broke apart in the behemoth’s rising. While his team was managing their escape, Kaji was pinned beneath layers of sleet and chunks of ice. The numbing sensation was spread body-wide as he was nearly overcome with weakness. Under any other circumstance, and perhaps for any other man aside a shinobi of his own particular skill set, Kaji might have given in to the call of death. Instead, his heart raced, perhaps in an effort to battle his drop in blood pressure from vasoconstriction. It was a burning desire to see another day. The desire to survive and make it back home. Ice quaked as the behemoth passed by, almost tearing the glacier apart and sinking Kaji into the deadly water. The traumatic shaking jostled him back to full consciousness from what was surely the brink of death, however, he still couldn’t overcome his shock enough to free himself from the ice.

But then came the crunch of approaching steps; sounds which Kaji reluctantly hoped to be his allies, most-likely sacrificing their own escape in order to find him. The failure— bleak thoughts plaguing his mind as the heavy steps raced nearer. Deep into the snow plunged hands, clawing wildly until it found his soggy cloak and pulled him out. But this was no ally, as Kaji looked up to see a pair of glowing red orbs staring back at him from a skinless face. The grim creature was another walking dead shinobi from the Dreadnought, and with massive strength, it flung Kaji across the snow. Still dazed and struggling, Kaji tumbled and reached aimlessly as he was grateful for some level of control returning to his body. But on came that zombie, who drew a long, notched club that hung from its back. Though his aim was to split Kaji’s skull open with one good hit, he landed a blow on the fallen anbu with a downward swing to the temple, and it shattered Kaji’s mask and merely broke skin at worst. Sure it hurt, but the rush of adrenaline that accompanied the pain was just the rush he needed.

And down swung the club a second time— this one would have finished the job but Kaji dodged it, narrowly avoiding the swing and taking action with a desperate armbar. He grasped the tendon and bone arm, refusing to let that club rise again, and wrapped his frost-covered legs around the attacker’s shoulder and waist. With a hard pull, Kaji snapped the arm at the elbow, sending bones and blacked tendons raining into the snow. The wight fell onto its back, and Kaji climbed to his feet all the meanwhile. It was now or never, do or die. But when he reached at his side for the hilt of Eelspine, Kaji felt nothing but thin air. “Eelspine” Kaji called aloud, puzzled as the blade was nowhere to be seen. Making due, Kaji grasped the many-notched club and went into a defensive stance as more pairs of red eyes encroached upon him through the thick white fog. The unbalanced iron club was awkward to wield for Kaji, who carried Eelspine exclusively for years on end. The window for escaping was nearly shut though, which left Kaji unable to search for the blade; instead, he had to focus on making a run for Her Lucky Bones. And so he fought his way through the droves of wights, bashing them with the club and the fire of ninjutsu, and occasionally swapping weapons with downed zombies as he went. He moved from the club to an even more awkward bardiche, to a poorly smithed longsword, and then a twin-sided battle axe.

But just when it seemed as if he might have carved a path towards escaping, another cataclysm created a shockwave across the waves beneath the ice. When the behemoth’s arm fell into the sea, Kaji narrowly avoided the impact. Bodies were flung with red-eyed fiends sent airborne and into the black waters. With his vigor renewed by sheer action, the half-masked hunter was moving at high speed with leaps from block to block of glaciers swinging on the rocking sea. It was then that he saw a glint of emeraldine light in flight across the horizon. It was as the sword was calling out to Kaji as it fell from the monster, where it was apparently trapped before. He was already moving as fast as he could manage, pushing his punished limbs to go with all his force as he realized he would not make it in time. Another undead man popped out of the snow, aiming to stop him but Kaji left the battle axe embedded in its chest, grounding it as he passed. “I have to make it” Kaji gasped, and he reached for his chest, frisking his pockets in the frenzy. He withdrew an ivory chess piece— a horse headed knight carved with fine detail, and he threw it desperately in a lobbed toss landed a dozen meters away on the ice. “I need ya, girl” he shouted, hardly audible over the roar of crashing ice and battle.

On cue, a burst of interplanar haze erupted and a beautiful creature emerged; the sunan mare, Kukki, Kaji’s most trusted companion, and steed. The extreme environment made her shriek and rear upwards on her hind-legs. Surely, it was the coldest experience she had ever encountered, but she did not shirk her duties as Kaji was spotted racing towards her. She began to gallop, allowing her speed to pick up just slow enough so that Kaji could scoop up her token and grab onto her saddle. Together they were incredible, beyond the limitations of either species as this was a shinobi’s horse, and with her skilled rider, they could overcome any terrain, even the sea. With Kaji on her back and concentrating on a single-handed uma seal, the horse began galloping across the waves and ice with equal speeds. As Eelspine spun it came down to the grasp of Kaji, who was now on a straight course for Her Lucky Bones.

“Yoake to squad: stay the course, let’s get out of here,” Kaji said through a crackling communication link as he spotted the ship sailing away in the distance. “I hit some complications... but I’m coming in hot at your nine’, Bones.” In the distance he saw Hoshi as a bead on the horizon, fighting valiantly to hold back the behemoth that would have sunken their ship otherwise. He was trying to slow its movement with a binding cable, however, no kind of man-made device would be able to stop such a massive creature. In truth, the behemoth was its most vulnerable as it was forming, which made ripping that arm off much easier than repeated efforts at slowing the giant. “Heads up Kurama” Kaji called through their rustling signal. “Looks like you need a lift.” Then he emerged, riding the steed on a shining streak of silver haze, seemingly drifting across the chaotic tundra. Kaji held the reins tightly with one hand and reached for Hoshi with the other, insisting on clasping him with a mutual forearm grip and pulling him onto the horse’s back.

Gaining speed away from the behemoth, it seemed as if the enemy wasn’t as hard-pressed to capture and kill the shinobi as it seemed. Soon enough, Her Lucky Bones was far from any icy obstacles, and a safe enough distance to allow the horse carrying Kaji and Hoshi to catch up and board. Kaji hurriedly sent away the steed, returning her to the much more hospitable pasture climate at his home. With a sudden poof she vanished. Time and again, Kukki had proven to be a valuable ally.

“Back to Port Cirrus, then?” Old man Wokou called from the wheel as he looked out to the shinobi squad. Unlike the squad, old Wokou didn’t look so disappointed in their survival. He couldn’t be happier to be making an escape. Kaji wasn’t so excited though. With his mask already fractured and his eyes in plain view, it seemed pointless to wear the rest of it so he took it off, revealing his face without any worry from the deed. Surviving together, he could have cared less if they shared in that one secret. “Aye, back to the port,” Kaji said as he found the closest seat he could find and wrapped himself in his wet cloak. “We need to report our findings at once. That was… Well, that could have gone a lot worse. Good job team.”

Static. The only audible sound that could be heard from the communication relay after Shu had exhorted Hoshi to find Kaji. Shu wrestled with concern as he entertained the idea that both Hoshi and Kaji had been subdued. It would be unfortunate if their lives were forfeited by the extreme bad luck they were facing today. Shu could not solely blame Hoshi's temerity on the failure of this mission instead he should have been more prepared for such an event like this, especially when it came to the supernatural. Despite being as fit as any spry young man, he was slipping at his old age.

There was a sudden crackling sound as the communicating relay that rested on Shu's ear sprung to life. Eventually, Shu could hear the voice of Kaji coming out of the sound board. It sounded as if Kaji was being chased as his voice continue to fluctuate. Within minutes, Shu could see a dark figure galloping towards them through the soft snowy terrain. The figure morphed into Kaji who was ridding on a horseback. When he got closer Shu could tell that the complications that Kaij was describing was very much an overstatement. The young man was clearly the most wounded among the group showing bruises on his body and cracked mask. His countenance was clearly becoming rebarbative as he approached his comrades. "That was...well, that could have gone a lost worse. Good job team." It was obvious that the man was being sarcastic as the four shinobi accomplished this cold day.

"There was a woman who was speaking a language I have not heard before." She said “Kaptu ilin ... la mastro volas la interlopers kun korpoj nerompitaj. Do these words sound familiar to anyone one of you?" Shu inquired.

Hoshi was seeking triumph in his duel with the behemoth but could only find disarray when his final tactic had failed. Either way, he had to retreat and now. The boat was becoming out of view but also to safety. The same time Byakko instructed to use his summon, a crackling static overcame his right ear. The reassuring sound of live and roaring Yoake. This sound renewed the boy’s vigor as he made his escape. His speed was fleeting from the sheer cold of the environment and his previous lack of focus in retreating.

He felt his chest cabin stall, a skip of his heartbeat until a voice behind him rang out clearly. Hoshi turned his head to see Yoake, the green hue visible behind half a mask. Hoshi saw the forearm in time to clutch it and pull himself up to the steed. The young teen rode the steed seated behind Yoake where he coughed. Fatigue had kicked in way too quick for the youth, clearly going to show his lack of preparation for the mission. He turned his back to the war ship and the teetering bone giant.

“I thought we lost you captain…”

The worry was evident in his voice but faded as the boy grew morale two fold. It was a short time before the two reached the boat with the others. Hoshi dismounted slowly with his head held low. His right arm reached over to his left elbow, eyes glued to the floor of the boat. It was a good thing they were all safe, but in his mind he couldn’t help but think if he never made that first move out of instinct, Yoake would not have been endangered in such a way. His face displayed this stress transparent as a mirror. He but his bottom lip before falling to one knee and placing a fist down to hold himself up with a head bow.

“I-I apologize for my hasty action team. In the end, I am glad to be making the escape altogether…”

The doujutsu of the child had long deactivated and only soft eyes were shown as he looked up. Mizumi made her way across the boat, she was smaller than the others, still growing into her age. The mute silently walked over to Hoshi and placed a hand on his shoulder.

Mizumi: “You think to quickly Hoshi-Chan. We are team, you are not alone here this mission.”

With that Mizumi looked toward the fleeting madness they managed to avoid. Her black beady eyes blinked one time before she poofed into a thick fog of space clouds. Her time had expended and Hoshi looked toward her with wide eyes. She was right, but the boy still felt shame and guilt in his heart. He sat down, crossed legged before his team awaiting the lectures he expected to come.

The entire event replayed in his mind from first encounter to this moment. A ship, with a chakra veil the size of nothing he has ever seen until now. It was boarded by undead, who still had a faint chakra signature. He thought of how that could be. Outwardly his head was hung and shoulders slumped as if he already accepted defeat. Although with such emotion, his mind continued to race back on what happened and find any sort of clues he could for his team to debilitate on.

As everything continued to unfold, Miraku could see members of his team returning. First to return would be Byakko, with Kurama out in the distance near the behemoth attempting to make his return as well. Finally, they would be getting out of this chaos. Truly, things had gone awry, but as long as they could all make it out alive, at least they could discuss the next step in dealing with this and not need to count this mission as a complete failure. Though the fact that he could not see their captain worried the ANBU, standing on board 'Her Lucky Bones' with the old man, the Otter and the one called Byakko.

Heading towards the edge of the boat to get a better view of the surroundings, hoping to spot their captain, Miraku attempted to use his chakra sense in order to locate him, but the fog and the strong chakra emanating from the Dreadnought made it quite difficult to pick out any one person's chakra out there. There was definitely still quite a bit of movement out there on the battlefield. The glaciers holding strong on the surface as the behemoth had ceased movements for the moment. As he watched the fog grow thicker while the ship began to head away from the chaos, suddenly the sound of static came across comes followed by the sound of their leader's voice. Hearing him speak, telling them to stick to what they were doing gave the young man hope that they could at least do that much. Even though it was a moment of relief, there was no time to relax. Readying himself, Miraku looked towards the direction Yoake had called out, watching him through the fog, getting a glimpse of his silhouette, riding atop a horse across the frozen ice. He seemed to be heading towards Kurama, as he quickly called to him, letting him know he was going to pick him up, getting both of them out of there. Riding a horse a good chunk of the way would surely increase their chance to catch up with the boat and make the getaway.

There wasn't much that Miraku could do to help with this escape anymore, just holding at the ready in case anything were to happen unexpectedly. It was soon after that they managed to catch up, both jumping aboard the ship, the horse disappearing in a puff of smoke. With obvious damage to his mask, Yoake pulled it off, revealing himself to the group. This surprised Miraku, curious as to why he would give up his anonymity. Maybe it was a sign that such things could be a relic from the past, but wasn't that the point of the ANBU? Anonymous elite shinobi who could perform missions which shouldn't have been handled by normal shinobi? It certainly confused the young man based on what he had been taught. Yoake quickly got back to command, responding to Wokou that they would head back to Port Cirrus, to which Miraku nodded in agreement.

But what followed did not sit well with him. Of course, Yoake was right about the fact that they needed to report their findings, but his attempt to make the team feel better about the results of this mission didn't really affect him. Truly this felt like a failure. Miraku felt like he had a lot to reflect upon. Could he have done something differently to improve the success of this mission, or to help avoid the outcome they had? He didn't feel like he could blame anyone because he had been taught for so long to rely only on himself; that success depended on him making the correct choices, and that no matter what, if he was strong enough, he could turn the tides in his favour, but maybe that wasn't entirely correct? It was quite the dichotomy to him. What he learned versus what he had experienced here today. He had always seemed to find success in missions prior to this, so what had changed? Had he grown weak? He would have to think about this more in depth in the future.

Right now he needed to pay attention to what was going on, as the youngest member, Kurama seemed to be apologizing to the team, seemingly attempting to take the blame for the outcome of their mission. His summon approached him and seemed to attempt to console him before disappearing into a poof of clouds like the horse previously. Walking towards the group, as to gather themselves, Miraku let out a deep breath, relaxing, only slightly now that they had managed to get some distance to make their escape. "It surely didn't turn out the way we would have liked, but we went in as a team, so no one person can take the blame for what occurred." He told them from behind his mask, as he stood there stoically, not wanting them to see how mixed up her was on the inside about this outcome. How was he supposed to even tell Okuro about what happened here? He pretty much raised the young man to never fail, so how would he take learning about his first big failure? These thoughts wouldn't stop running through his mind for their entire escape back to Port Cirrus, and probably much longer.

Taking one more look back, the fog became thicker and thicker with each passing moment as they made their escape, the massive enemy ship leaving his view as he felt further at ease to be out of the battle now, turning back towards the group. Byakko began to address the group, telling them about a woman he had seen during the battle who was apparently speaking a different language before attempting to repeat what the woman had said. The words that came from his mouth did seem to sound familiar to him for some reason, but he had absolutely no idea what any of it meant. It could have been his voice of accent which threw it off from being obvious, but it sounded much like the language he heard his parents speak when he was younger when they didn't want him to know what they were saying. "I'm not one hundred percent sure, but it sounds a lot like the language my parent speak sometimes; a language from Water Country. But like I said, I'm not super sure about it, and I don't know what it means at all." Miraku responded, hoping he was at least some help in that regard.

The collective mood on board Her Lucky Bones was rightfully somber as the squad reflected on their experience. They were true shinobi and warriors, one and all, and survival didn’t seem like a reward when the enemy was still there with numbers so unscathed by their efforts. It was never easy to take pride in retreating, and Kaji thought to rally them with motivation but it would have only done little good at that point. No, that point the squad had to focus on the facts. They had to pull what results they could from the encounter. Their very purpose in sailing out into danger’s way was not to do battle, but to gain information— that much they had done in spades.

Shu was about as forward-thinking and mechanical in his efficiency as Kaji thought him to be in the short time since meeting him. Somewhere along the way he heard something in a strange dialect and repeated it, but this merely baffled Kaji and company. The captain gave a shrug and head shake, coming up empty in lieu of a language he’d never heard before. “Aye. Let’s see about getting that speech deciphered once we’re back in the village” Kaji decided. “We should have the resources to decode it— and maybe it’ll be a useful clue. But of all the things that happened, I don’t recall hearing anything beyond groans from the enemy; definitely not an intelligible language.”

The frigid temperatures surrounding the dreadnought gradually lessening their grip on Her Lucky Bones, but the typical cold of the region was still no laughing matter. In order to spare himself from succumbing to his wet and coldness, Kaji performed one single-handed seal and began molding his chakra into a greater warming effect, just short of setting himself ablaze with immolation armor. Steam rolled off of him as he dried and warmed himself to a comfortable degree. His hair frizzed from the drastic changes but he raised the hood of his cloak to provide more containment. While he was feeling a bit better, another look at his comrades revealed their continued glum— Kaji had to say something. “What we accomplished out there was not failure… never take shame from survival; you are always of greater service to your village alive than dead. As for the mission itself, our goal was to assess the threat out there and that’s exactly what we did. We went as scouts doing reconnaissance, not an assault squad prepared for a threat that great.” He could search into the black eye holes of each masked companion in their party, but Kaji didn’t need to see faces to know that his speech wouldn’t satisfy them entirely. “There isn’t a group of four shinobi alive with the power to down a threat of that scale by themselves. We were damn lucky to all make it out alive so that we may prepare in case that thing reaches our shores.”

And then Wokou called from the cabin, “Land ho, we’ll be back to Cirrus any minute now” as the first light of land emerged on the horizon.
“We’ll take the first train back to Kumogakure and debrief Lord Raikage at once. No time should be wasted in warning the Naval forces at Port Cirrus of the potential incursion, so it might serve us to divide our efforts.” In the face of defeat, Kaji was gearing up for the next move, defending the coast and retaliation.

Hoshi was surprised to see, the man behind the mask was Kaji. When he removed his broken mask, he wasn't too surprised at the idea. In his journey to Konoha, when Yuuto became the Sennin of the ANBU branch, he proposed taking on missions unmasked, and understanding each others' abilities to work better as a team. It brought back memories to his first S rank mission with Konoha's ANBU. At that time, they failed that mission, but their teamwork was most impressive. Even then Hoshi had showed signs of impatience and put his team within harm's way. The reminiscent memory was one to behold as the look on his face dampened. Another look at Kaji and it would find light knowing that the man came back safe. Hoshi wiped his forehead with the back of his hand sighing. Soku's words came to his ears and he looked over. He nodded at his words, the weight of the pressure he put himself lifted for a moment.

Soku then gave his thoughts on the strange language that Shu repeated earlier. Hoshi looked back a Byakko and rose an eyebrow. He agreed with Kaji, all he could hear was the moans and groans of their attackers. At the same thought, in retrospect, Hoshi rubbed his chin. Most of his time was dueling with that behemoth. He couldn't help but feel like he had seen something similar in his time in Konoha as well. He shook his head, but he remembered the brisk cold of the attack that Byakko blocked with a flame shield.

"Well, I didn't hear anything but... I know that an average summoner wouldn't be able to conjure up that bone giant. I assume that would take a lot of chakra. There's definitely someone pulling puppet strings here."

Hoshi stood up from his seat of shame. His head was still hung low but he would begin to lighten up. That was when Kaji announced his words of encouragement. Hoshi would stand straight before his captain as he spoke after replying to Byakko's wise observation. Kaji emphasized the beauty of the team survival, of that Hoshi agreed with a nod. The boat was damaged, Old Man Wokou was safe, Mizumi was vigilant, and not single rank from the team was left for dead. Hoshi looked around to his other masked members, and over to Wokou, and back at Kaji. His first S Rank mission with the ANBU in Konoha was an assault task force. This one was only recon, and it was true that succeeded in doing so.

"Right captain."

When everything started to go down, the only thing he thought was fight for survival. At the same time, he so wished they could have eliminated the threat by themselves as a team. But when he recalled, the spilling waves of undead who would seemingly stop at nothing. It would take only a single strike to evade them but even then... Those amount of numbers matched up with a strong leader is a formidable opponent. Kaji then stated they would need retaliate long before that ship could reach their shores. Hoshi cringed at the thought of this warship making a preemptive strike against cloud or lightning country. He clenched his fist at the mere thought of this monstrosity targeting a threat against his homeland.

"No way captain. We will quell the threat long before it even sees land!!!"

It was just then Wokou called out from the front with a large bellow. Hoshi would turn to face the man walking over to the side of the boat. Even without his enhanced vision Hoshi was able to see the far lands. It was nice that he didn't have to focus so much chakra on body warmth, and the looming threat was but a fleeting memory now. The captain then gave out strict orders to be precise with their timing was they would execute a retaliation soon. These words would probably weigh heavy on the ears of their raikage to hear about a such an event. Hoshi then walked over and into the cabin. He took a seat next to the old man watching the land come into sight. The sea was besetting a shimmering light across the waters that hypnotized the boy.

"I guess none of us could have expected to encounter such a threat. Wokou, I'm glad you are boat are safe to tread waters another day. She sure is lucky, I'll give her that. If not for your expertise behind the wheel, this mission would have gone a lot worst and even farther from success. I humbly thank you for your efforts sir."

After his words were spoken into existence, Hoshi would rise from sitting. He'd place a hand on the railing leaning toward the sea. For a moment he felt his eyes deceive him as the light formed a woman, resembling his late mother. His grip on the railing tightened as the fickle water flickered and the image was rippled into spreading light. Hoshi sighed as he turned to walk away and thought to himself. 'I know you are still watching me. But I'm okay, everything is okay.' Silent words of his heart that would reach no other ears but his. Words he spoke to satisfy the undying soul of his mother who passed with the heartbreaking worry of her seed's safety.

He made his way back to the group finally. The soldier was still masked as he approached. With nothing else left to do but the play waiting game until they landed, Hoshi took a seat once more. The boy pulled out a string, with it he would occupy his mind by manipulating its shape and form with formations of his fingers. He did whatever he could to keep his mind busy. Occasionally he would look back at the previous position of the dreadnought, and back to his fingers. Eventually he'd begin to hum ever so quietly to himself, a familiar song his mother would sing. He'd continue to wrap the string around certain fingers, pulling it different directions and coming out with different shapes. Some he already knew, but he was always looking to find more formations to create. Eventually his boredom kicked in as his attention shifted. The boy unsheathed his ninjato, from his item pouch he pulled out ninja wire.

He clicked the pummel of his sword and a small opening retracted revealing a spindle. Hoshi refilled it with fresh ninja having wasted massive amounts on that bone behemoth. He clicked his teeth as he did so, recalling what a dumb attempt it was. He eventually rolled up the entire spindle, put back into place and closed the latch from his pummel, sealing it with a click of a lock. Hoshi then clicked a different button, which spewed wire, another click retracted it back into the spindle hidden in his hilt. The port was getting closer by the second as they drifted. Hoshi smirked at the sight, sliding his ninjato back into position of its holster. The youth stood up once more and stretched all the way out.

"Yeah, we are just about almost there. I wonder what plans we will come up with to deal with such adversity."

Hoshi rubbed his chin and walked back over into the cabin, he was itching to get back now at this moment. The waiting game was beginning to run dry the patience of the teenager.

Listening to Yoake speak to the group further, he was attempting to improve the mood of the group, letting them know they hadn't failed completely. This was true. Their objective was mainly reconnaissance, and they were able to gather information about their enemy, in that they were able to see what kind of creatures they were up against, their ship and relative battle strength. This information would be vital to forming a force which would be able to combat this enemy, as well as letting others know of their hostility and the danger they posed to the country in general if they were to be left unchecked. It certainly wasn't something they could afford to do after seeing the enemies reaction to their group encroaching on their position. It was also true that it was better they were alive than dead, as dying at the hands of that enemy would have left the country and village open to attack with no information. Miraku wasn't so sure it was luck that they made it out of there, not wanting to believe he would have perished there even though the enemies forces were so overwhelming. Kurama also seemed against the idea of them reaching land, wanting to help deal with this threat.

As the boat continued towards Port Cirrus, Wokou called out that they were approaching land. Turning his head, Miraku looked, smirking a bit beneath his mask as he could see it as well in the distance, happy to be out of the cold air and heading back now. His body warming up, as the day had grown later. Even though it was still relatively cool out, the air felt much warmer than what the group had been dealing with only just a little while ago. Kurama spoke up again, thanking the old man for his services, and praising his expertise on the waters. He was right, the old man had been very valuable. Perhaps he would be useful in the future again as well, but that would remain to be seen. Turning back to the group, Yoake continued addressing the group, letting them know that he wanted to get back to Kumo to debrief the group and Lord Raikage as soon as possible, as well as speaking to the Naval forces at the port in order to prepare in case worse did come to worse. It was certainly a good idea, and it wouldn't take very long to speak to someone once they arrived so they could catch the next train home and report back immediately. As the boat continued to ride the water back to the port, Miraku looked out to the horizon where they had come from, his mind processing all that had happened, and began to prepare himself for what was to come. He couldn't possibly turn his back on this enemy after such an encounter. No, he would certainly continue the fight and return stronger than before. He planned to make sure he would do as much as possible to make up for what he thought was a failure on his part this day.

As the boat reached the docks, Miraku turned towards land, getting ready to depart, as he spoke up. "Well, we shouldn't waste any time I suppose. Seems like we're committed to dealing with this now, so we should be on our way back then." he said, agreeing with their leader's sentiments. Placing his hands in his pockets beneath his cloak, he closed his eyes for a moment as he walked towards the edge of the boat, taking in his last moments before fully committing, opening them to his new resolve. Bounding off the boat with just the strength of his legs, landing on the docks, waiting for the group to depart and head on their way back home.

Mirauku was perplexed at Shu's inquiry as he was unaware that the undead had spoken, let alone anything intelligible. The ANBU did remarked that the language's origin could have come from Water country, considering his parents had spoken a similar language before.

Water Country. Before the common era, the villages from various nations were rather scattered and with the all the wars there was not much time to satiate oneself in the arts of literature. The bigger question is why was a band of the undead from water country doing all the way over here and what purpose did they have with Cloud country. Frankly, the fact they left nearly unscathed was the most disturbing as if shinobi were inconsequential.

Kaji attempted to assuage their mistakes by reiterating that their missions was only to do a reconnaissance not a full assault. It was a fair statement however the fact that they were identified complicated. Who ever these undead beings are knew that Kumogakure is aware of their existence. The undead were limited or bound by the laws of the living. They could easily invade the village without a second thought just as youkai have done so many times. In fact, the main reason why Shu came out of retirement was to fix the mess that Hayata Shin had left.

Shu turned his head as he listen to the effervescent young Hyuuga become crestfallen at his recent actions. If he remained ossified and listen before attacking the current events would not have transpired. Shu rested his hand against the boy's shoulder. His brown eyes peered through his bandage masked.

"Hoshi-san. Humility is the path to wisdom. Be grateful that you have learned something today. As your sensei I am glad that you are unharmed" Shu said.

"Kaji-san. I do not think we were lucky to escape. In my experience, if the undead wants us dead they would done so. The fact that we are alive just confirms that we are not the target, which concerns me the most." Shu remarked.

Shu looked down at the near shriveled up corpse that laid in front of him. He was able to freeze and capture one of the undead. It would difficult to find anything of substance to go on especially considering that Shu could not feel a single ounce of energy when it was animated. It could be that because it was away from the source that it returned back to a dead body. All of this was just speculation.

"This is far from over." Shu thought to himself.

Shu knew that he was going to have to travel into the spiritual realm as there were some answers that he would not be able to find with the living. He glanced back Hoshi as we wondered if the young lad should accompany him on his adventure. Hoshi had still had a lot to learn but his spiritual abilities were weak. There was no way Hoshi had enough spiritual energy to enter the world without damaging his body. Shu would have to find another avenue.

"Hoshi-san. I would like for you to accompany back to Aesculapium. We need to examine the body together. Miraku-san and Kaiji-san you are free to join us." He said.
