Advent of a World of Flowering Trees [Contract Search]

The island of Moon has farmland in the south, unfathomable cliffs to the north, beautiful beaches to the west, an unrivaled forest in the middle, and the city of Moon in the east. While not a varied land like larger islands, there is enough variety and hidden ruins and treasures to keep people constantly exploring.

The darkness around Nobu alone would drive many people mad. Knowing that beyond the illumination of the goop on your skin there may be countless predators after you, or an undiscovered hazard that's totally inescapable can make people overthink. While many think that overthinking things is a bad thing, it's not entirely true. Overthinking will always lead to one of two things. Panic, or a solution. To hopelessly struggle, and to hopefully solve.

Luckily, Nobu hadn't experienced any fear, or pressure (aside from the literal water pressure around him) so he was able to think clearly, and follow the pointed path. However, as he lit the light-flare and sent it flying, there was something that could potentially never be unseen.

Countless reflections off of pale, scaly skin from many many fish, all of which looking unearthly. With large, grotesque teeth or appendages unlike any normal fish. As of right now, Nobu was within the guts of what one would only call "a pocket of the deep sea."...

As the flare flew across the dark waters, the plant life reacted by beginning to shimmer in neon shades of blue, and green in an attempt to attract small fish...either to transfer their seeds, or feed on. None of them posed a threat as long as Nobu steered clear, but should he be reckless there was no telling on what could happen.

Regardless, if Nobu pushed beyond the looming threat of aquatic life and possibly killer plants in his way, there was something deep within the waters. In time the flare hit a wall, and vanished leaving but a glance of another womanly statue, this time only having it's head with a crown covered in strange polished stones of various colors, untouched by the moss and erosion of the waters.

Nobu felt no small degree of revulsion in his stomach as the possible threats around him were revealed. His experience with fish was minimal, limited to the handful times he'd seen deep-frozen fish on Sunagakure's markets. With how dry the Wind Country was, fish was hard to get as deep inland as Sunagakure and caught a good price on its markets. Those fish definitely had little resemblance to the silver-scaled, white-eyed monstrosities inhabiting the black depths. With revulsion came fear. He had no experience with fighting underwater, let alone fighting swarms of small, ravenous fish. Tapping into years of physical and mental shinobi training, he forced the urge to panic down and kept going.

The boy made sure to avoid the larger concentrations of flora and fauna as he made his way through the dark. With the light he was giving off he was no doubt drawing all the attention he could, but there was no reason to try his luck. Remembering the massive size of Abura and how quickly Nobu had lost sight of him, he felt hesitant to swim too far up, lest he would suddenly swim into a much larger threat than the small fish below. It took a little moment for Nobu to find a good sweet spot between low enough for his own personal comfort yet high enough to stay out of the reach of the strange plants.

When he finally made it to the second statue, he swam up to its crown to inspect the polished stones. The boy could hardly be called greedy, but they definitely drew his eye.

The crown itself was made of some kind of polished limestone, covered in tiny indents and imperfections while being a pale grey color. Along the top of the stone crown were well over a dozen brilliant gemstones of various kinds, all being uncut, yet polished to look shining and spherical. It didn't appear to be directly connected to the statue it lay upon which was made of a much more commonly seen grey stone, with moss and now-glowing bioluminescent algae covering it's features to make it an almost perfectly black humanoid figure of more feminine qualities.

It's entire left arm was missing from the shoulder, but the rest of it's form was relatively in one piece with a large, blank slab of stone under it's other arm, and sculpted garments that appeared to mimic a traditional kimono. If anything, the apparently untouched crown was unlike anything else on the statue.

Before long after Nobu had arrived at the statue, a deep and loud bellow could be heard all throughout the waters, which caused any nearby fish to scatter. It's loud and deep, yet creaky nature could have only been Abura's. Somehow the bellow could be heard clearly through flooded eardrums and the mass of water between them, almost confirming it's supernatural nature. "Boooooooooooooooooooooooooy" it yelled, as if getting inpatient. "Huuuuuuuuuuurry.". It was obvious that he was getting impatient.

And then, silence once more. There was silence for a long while. No more nearby pale-skinned fish or movement aside from the drifting plantlife. The silence never lasted long, as a feminine voice broke that silence, being ghostly in nature and being heard through the water, and crushed ears much like Abura's voice.

"Will he ever shut up?" The voice said, coming from the statue. "always scares away my food...."

After saying that, the crown lifted off of the statue's head, and revealed to be attached to some kind of biological cord. Where that cord led to? Another talking fish, being a sickly green with tattered fins and hidden teeth. On her back, where the spine usually resided, came the protrusion that ended in the crown, which was quickly shown to be some kind of transforming appendage that quickly became nothing more than a floating blob of flesh that matched her scale color. She was no bigger than a couple feet long, and had a peculiar vertical stretch that many fish down here experienced. "And you're too big to eat....what do you want?" The small fish asks Nobu while keeping herself at eye level with him. Her thin set of second eyelids blinks on occasion, and no expression donned her face as she stared at the boy.

"Right. You can't talk under here." She said, regardless of whatever physical response he may have. "If you're looking for That big guy's stone tablet, tough luck. Only I know where it is, and there's no way I'm gonna help some random human...Unless you're willing to get me a meal." She said as her fish lips peeled open to reveal countless long, skinny teeth.

Nobu gave a start at the sudden bellow, his surprise almost causing him to gasp and inhale a lungful of water. A grouchy expression crossed his face when he finally calmed down and realized it had simply been Abura shouting at him. He would've shaken his fist back up at the surface if he hadn't been so preoccupied with keeping an eye out on his intimidating and mystifying surroundings.

Nobu had to fight off panic again when the second voice piped up. If he had been able to talk, he would've probably shouted in frustration at the sequence of events. He was freaked out enough already, and now these strange fish... things... were addressing him when he wasn't focused on them.

Whatever tendency towards aggression Nobu might have harbored vanished when he saw the fish and observed its disturbing physiology. The dangling organ made Nobu think of a disemboweled human with their guts spilling out. Those teeth wouldn't be able to swallow him whole like Abura, but the fish would definitely be able to take a few nasty bites out of Nobu if she wanted. He wasn't some Yamanaka capable of mind-linking with the fish, or an Uchiha able to hypnotize on sight. Down here, his nascent Senju abilities felt all but useless.

Though he was loath to work for the smug little fish, Nobu figured he had no choice. Drawing the knife he'd kept at his belt, he stuck it between his teeth while glowering at the fish. With no more than that, he turned to swim back to where he'd seen the shoals of strange fish so he could hunt for a meal.

The toothy grin of the fish was again covered by paper thin, pale lips once Nobu had physically queued that he request had been taken. The fish looked notably impressed that the boy hadn't panicked at the lightest site of it's own weird form, but didn't linger once he had bitten down on the knife, simply saying "You'll need a lot more than a knife to catch anything down here, boy" before going behind the statue one more to lay out it's shining bait, as if nothing ever happened.

As Nobu drifted off into the dark pits of the deep-sea pocket, he was slowly met with more and more bioluminescent light from surrounding plants, and small shrimp-like creatures that emitted a faint green shimmer, but seemed much too small to make a meal out of. As he would spend more time around this life, he would soon realize how surreal everything's movement was. With the water being so pressurized,it was tough for anything to move enough to swim half as fast as Nobu could. Instead they simply pushed themselves a little bit further and let the shifting waters carry them the rest of the way, or the normally limp plants stood perfectly motionless. It was truly a spectacle.

Nobu was, thankfully, immune to the hard pressure of the water, so he could swim normally. Instead, he was met with an even greater challenge...As far as he could see past his brightly glowing and goo-covered body, the large fish seen before were all gone. Not a single trace of them to speak of. instead all the white haired Suna nin was left with were several teenie tiny specks of light within the deeps of the water. Question is, should he risk walking head-first into them?

Nobu registered his environment with the kind of awareness any trained shinobi could muster. He had the advantage of speed through Abura's weird goo. Curiously, Nobu wondered whether the trick behind walking on water would work underwater as well. He would have tested it under less stressful circumstances, but instead he found himself far too distracted by the environment to dare attempt such experimentation.

Remembering the nature of his abilities, Nobu clung close the bottom where the plants were lurking. The boy reminded himself that even if any of them would turn out to be predatory, his newly-discovered Bloodline powers made him a master of flora. Well, master might have been exaggerated, but it allowed him some measure of control. Besides, wood jutsu would probably work fine underwater, but he needed to be close to the earth for most of them.

Nobu stuck close to the bottom as he gradually approached the distant specks. Not much of a choice, there - he had to find food to convince the strange fish. His one alternative would be to just try to control it with Genjutsu, but he didn't want to piss it off. Given what Abura was apparently capable of, he didn't want to have to test the capabilities of the fish down here.

Sticking low to the bottom, Nobu hoped the glowing plants would at least somewhat conceal the glow of his own body. That way, he could crawl forwards and reconnoiter safely, and maybe not get immediately swarmed by whatever hungry threat that oppressive darkness housed...

Within the deeps of the otherworldy waters, one could easily expect those glimmering lights to be strange fish, or plants that could be used as bait. Those people would only be partially correct. What now stood before Nobu in the vague distance was what appeared to be a mass of tangling vines, covered in glowing orbs that no person alive could see without noticing the raw chakra running freely out of them.

Then, before the youth could act, they all began shifting and twisting with the grim, and disgusting nature of a rotting corpse strung on a swaying tree. From the mess of tangled vines eventually came out a single small fish, not appearing too harmful when compared to the dangerous appearance of most others. Instead, it looked like some kind of eel, but lined with one long fin down it's sleek form, and four sprouting near it's head. It lacked a large mouth, and had large eyes that could take in the surroundings of even the darkest pits. It was roughly as long as Nobu's forearm (from tip of the fingers to elbow) and didn't appear to give off any light.

Upon seeing the glowing Nobu, it didn't dart at first. Instead it slowly, ever so slowly inched towards him in an attempt to see if the glowing was some kind of vegetation. Of course, the moment it noticed that the vegetation had eyes, it darted back into it's nest within the mess of vines which seemed to strangely be the only light in the area anymore. Even the once shiny statue behind him was now gone, and there was only darkness, the goo, and the vines in sight.
