Welcome to Carmot City! [SSM]

Following the Great Quake that was unleashed by the emergence of Dominus and The Swarm, various faults and sinkholes that quickly led to the discovery of a vast network of tunnels that covered the whole country. These tunnels are a mixture of man-made, Sandworm made, and "other" made. Several of the hundreds of tunnels seem to have been, or are still currently, used by the human trafficking network in Wind Country to transport their "merchandise". Due to that, there is an active underground train system and mine cart paths to expedite travel to all reaches of the country... if you can negotiate your way onboard. This nefarious system is the actual "highway" while others choose to travel "off-road" in the various other tunnels, at their own peril. "Off-road" paths treasure, creatures, and civilizations either forgotten or never discovered before!

Following the Great Quake that was unleashed by the emergence of Dominus and The Swarm, various faults and sinkholes that quickly led to the discovery of a vast network of tunnels that covered the whole country. These tunnels are a mixture of man-made and Sandworm made. Sandworms are gargantuan annelids are simultaneously one of the most potentially destructive forces in Wind Country and also one of its greatest treasures. Carmot, which is believed to be a by-product of the legendary sandworm's digestive process, is a naturally occurring element found in the deep caverns of Wind Country's massive underground networks. Carmot is almost pure energy in crystallized form and is highly sought after for a large variety of usages though a high-yield fuel source is its most common application. Since farming the resource almost impossible. Most commonly it is simply found making treasure-hunting a common vocation for the adventurous.

Akazukin travels down the underground highway to find an entire city made by and for such treasure-hunting adventurers. “Welcome to Carmot City!” her traveling companion tells her as she looks around in complete awe of it all. The place was huge with so many buildings and there was even an underground river than ran down the city. There was an entire system of railroad which had minecarts traveling up and down tunnels carrying value resources. In a distance she saw a building that had a chimney which spewed out a glowing purple mist. Akazukin as what it was and her companion tells her, “That is the Carmot Infusion Processing Plant. This is where we safely introduce various elements into the carmot.”

A bell chimes as the clock on the clock tower strikes three o’clock. “Quick we must hurry to the hospital.” The reason for Akazukin’s visit to this underground city is because of a basilisk problem they have been having and a few citizens of the village have been petrified. Being that the basilisk natural habit is the swamp and Akazukin spent many of her childhood within the swamps of her homeland and thus she is familiar with this creature and its afflictions. For one she knows that basilisk petrification does not turn someone into literal stone. That is a misconception that Akazukin never really understood, because if that was true then basilisk diet would consist of rock.

Basilisk petrification makes the surface of the skin harden and calcify, but in the early stages it is still fairly thin and brittle, so the body's movement makes the hardened tissue split into a network of cracks. In later and more severe stages look somewhat like patterns of scales. In later stages the hardened flesh becomes mottled grey and black as it dies, resulting in the flesh appearing to have the texture of cracked grey stone. In the very final stages it starts attacking the body's internal organs, hardening them as it did the outer flesh. The rate the petrification spreads depends on the age of the basilisk. For younger basilisk it can take a little over an hour to hit the final stages, while older one can fully petrify a person in a couple of minutes.

Within the small hospital she was escorted to a room where the victims were kept. Before her eyes was a dozen of people in the final stage of petrification. Normally this was the point of no return, but Akazukin was special with her temporal powers. In her case she was not exactly healing but rewinding an individual's time to the point of health. As long as it makes a person no longer injured the medical branch was not going to argue over semantics. Thankfully her abilities were enough to cure them of their affliction, but the problem of the basilisk still remain. You can say the medical part of the mission may be over but the ranger part has only just begun. “Where did you come across the basilisk?” The people of the city inform Akazukin that it has been lurking around the river.

Rangers are known to be able to find footprints in the midst of raging sandstorms. They are expert tracks and Akazukin is no different in that matter but her tracking abilities are a little different then most for it not exactly tracks she finds. Standing at the river the hands within her tokeigan spin and she begins to see echoes of the past; footprints in time. They were images that would lead her to her target, but she must be careful. Basilisk has one of the most dangerous venom: unlike snakes, spiders or scorpions a basilisk venom is not injected into the bloodstream but merely applied to the skin. It is a topical poison that seeps within the pores of the skin.

Walking along the bank of the river with musket in hand, she follows the footprints into a poorly lit tunnel. She continues until her target comes into view, but it was the smell that hits her first. The oder to the cave was fowl and reeked of death. She figures she must be nearing some sort of food cache or something the creature might have made. However when she finally sees the basilisk, she could tell it was dead. Not only dead but being eaten by some sort of monstrous humanoid beings. Akazukin raises her musket into the air and a large clock forms behind her. Firing the gun she made sure that these creatures were aware of her presents, if they weren’t all ready.

The gun shot would do what it was intended, alert The Swarm pack that was present. Yet, they would not be panicked by this, as long a few would turn their attention in the location of the shot fired. 5 of the figures, looking humanoid but clearly mutated, would begin to slowly and calmly make their way towards the female, the source of the shot. While that was happening, the remaining 6 figures, still tearing into the flesh of the basilisk would begin to hiss and grunt at one another. Within the depths of the cave, further away from this scene, more than likely out of sight of the female intruder, would be another figure. It's body would be wrapped in the shadows of this portion of the cave, hiding its features but still showing a considerably larger silhouette of anything of the other Unbent. Was this one of them? Was it different? What was it doing?

It's eyes would merely glow a fiery burning orange as it watched on.

The gun fire did what she wanted, but the reaction was not what she had expected. These people looked like monsters because of their mutations, but they did not charge at her like a wild beast. Was this the swarm the Steward mentioned? Despite their appearance they did not seem hostile and made no aggressive actions towards her. Akazukin holsters her musket onto her back where it belongs, but the clock still remains. She does a polite bow and after raising her head she would apologize for her actions. “Forgive my intrusion.” She would first speak in the common tongue unsure if they even have a language. “اغفر لي اقتحام بلدي” She would repeats her words in Runic Terran and pays attention to see, if they seem to understand either language.

Akazukin would play submissively for now and tried not to make any actions to provoke them. She did not approach them nor did she retreat. She allows the ones brave enough to walk to her to do so. Akazukin makes no actions other than observing. Watching the ones coming towards her, the ones eating the spoils of a good hunt and the large one looming in the shadows. She would make note if they had any possessions: tools they could have used to slay their prey, any utensils for eating or clothes to cover their body. She also made sure to pay attention to see if any of them, particularly the one coming towards her, were inflicted with any injuries they may have gotten in taking down such a beast as the basilisk.

The Swarm

The five would continue to approach the female with caution, well maybe caution was not the right word. It was more like they were stalking her. It was very much like a wolf approaching prey, except maybe not as overtly clear in the threat that they posed. As they neared her, they would begin to space out around her, a flash of orange seemed to glimmer in their cold dead eyes as they started this new placement. Their appearance would be humanoid, grey skinned flesh wrapped around their frames that seemed to be covered in cracks and wounds. There would not be any sign of blood other than a crusted dry black substance. There would be some small semblance of clothing upon the group that approached her, but mostly tattered rags that seemed to not only be torn but worn down from years of existing. They were both a "living" creature and "relics" of past humans. There wouldn't be a way of telling, at least not at this juncture, just how old one of them were, as their Unbent ages would range anywhere between nearly 300 years old to 1 year old. They were morphed, corrupted and twisted beings that were once just as human as the female before them. Yet, one might not ever guess that from how they acted, and it would probably be difficult for this shinobi to do as much either as her curiosity would not be met with the same pleasantries.

They would not react to her words, no matter the language, at least not this group, and as soon as they neared within six feet of her, spread out all around her, they would begin to lunge at her and swipe with their gnarled hands. The tips of their fingers, for whatever reason, seemed to be more reptilian, almost like claws, as they would attempt to tear into her flesh.

While the occurred, the six tearing into the basilisk would stop and turn their attention to their 5 other members who were attacking the shinobi. The large one in the distances, would take a few steps forward, his eyes now seemingly glowing a brighter orange. As he moved forward, the silhouette of fabric moving in the air around his upper body might be noticed. If it was a shirt or some article of clothing like that, he would be the only one out of the twelve foreign figures present that was wearing that type of clothing.

What is your next move, adventurer?

Akazukin continues to observe and was clearly not in an offensive stance. She was glad to spot clothing for she can work with that. When she activates her sage mode she will have access to an ability called Identity: With a touch, she can understand any object's quality, traits, and history, and can even, as the Tsukumogami like to put it, 'persuade' said objects to not work against them. If she can gather even a piece of their clothes she might be able to find out more about them. While she was thinking of a way to trade for such items she notices the ones coming towards her acting funny. She was already in a defensive mode with a large clock behind her (Mangekyou Sharingan) still active. Their original lack of aggression made her not engage an assault, but neither did she let herself be open for an attack.

An amused grin stretches across her face as time being to be subtly altered. The unbent would notice nothing, but from her perspective time was slowing down to a crawl. The five that seem interested in her charged furiously at her, but with time slowed down they seem to be only walking quickly towards her. Their swings came at her in slow motion and easily avoided. To the unbent her reaction times were beyond human as she moves almost fast enough to create partial after images. Her dodging was a dance that lead from one pose to another with fluidity and grace. She even uses her ability in deflection to guide missed attacks to another opponent.
Image
After her little display she stands straight and begins to lower into the ground as if sinking into her own shadow. “Follow me boys.” She says in a seductive tone. Despite her vanishing from view the shadow seems to remain. In fact it was not a shadow at all but a rift between this world and The Hollow. The question is are they willing to follow her and fight on her territory. Akazukin once within the void dimension dissolves her giant clock as she can no longer maintain it.

I feel like I'm going to need to explain myself since this is somewhat modded. Lets start with what was active when she first arrived one the scene.

Sharingan: +3 dodge (This will lower to +2 at end of round) [Hyper-activate ability covers cost]
Mangekyou Sharingan: Dodging an attack (whether normally or auto-dodged) causes the user to become immune to all subsequent attacks occurring at that exact point of time during a round. [Healing Factor covers cost]
Deflection: Partial hits upon the user are treated as one rank lower
Defensive Mode: +2 Dodge, -4 Accuracy

I realize that in modded situation thinks before battle didn't happen, but I'm hoping for some leeway on this... please?
Now for actions I did in this post.

Epochs: Haste - Grants you or a target of your choice +3 Dodge/Save and 10% Auto-Dodge for 2 seconds for every 1 AP spent. (I spent 2 ap)
Kamui with special action: -1300 cp

The Swarm

It would seem that the shinobi had an advantage with their ability to increase their speed. They would elegantly dance around the lashing Unbent, even causing some to actually hit one another in their frantic attack. In terms of coordination and reflexes, it was clear that Akazukin was superior to these five humanoids. She would then descend into darkness while leaving a cryptic comment to the members of The Swarm, but they would still not react to her words, and would almost instantly come crashing into The Hollow, not even hesitating to follow the female into her created shadow-like portal. Upon entering The Hollow, the humanoids would do something that they hadn't done before entering this place. They would pause. The orange glimmer in their eyes would dullen and they would begin to look around the strange environment. A couple of grunts and clicks and then the Unbent would turn their attention back to the female.

Once more they would rush her, slightly slower than before, and lash out at her, again slightly slower than before, in an attempt to finally start the process of clawing her to shreds.

Meanwhile, those that remained on the outside would finally start to move away from the basilisk and head over towards the spot where their others had disappeared. Three of the six would go and wait at the spot where the disappearance had occurred while the remaining three, eyes now burning and orange color just as bright as the big figure behind them, would turn their attention to the approaching brute. The hulking mass would stop next to the other three at the corpse of the lizard-like beast and would begin to remove a dagger, covered in ruins, and begin to carefully cut into the three smaller Unbent.

What is your next move, adventurer?

Akazukin leaves Topic
Taisen Hakuren enters topic
Hakuren's mission begins at this post

Taisen Hakuren, code name The Watcher, Was a blind Yamanaka within the Anbu corps. Her rank was not a high one as she is only a basic Anbu. However that is not to say that her abilities are lacking for when it came to espionage she was the best of the best, hands down, no contest. Hakuren just does not have any interest in promotion and is comfortable in her current standing. The Anbu does have some issues with her considering she is very picky on which missions she accepts, but they do understand that she is just sticking to what she is good at. When the Steward posted some missions Hakuren reviews them and there was one caught that her interest:
The swarm is amassing in Wind Country. Your mission is that of stealth. You are to survey and stalk lesser swarm movements and find out where they are going. Do not engage the enemy at all, we want to know where there are going to be bulk numbers of the swarm so we can appropriately segment our troops for then they attack. In the event you are able to capture one member of the Swarm, do so. We need the target alive, for the most part, as we will then have it studied upon for any weak points.

Completing this mission will reward you with Ranger Status should you not belong to an Order.
She never considered joining an Order before but perhaps the rangers would be a good fit for her. Hakuren heads down to the underground highway where there have been reports sightings of the swarm. One of the first skills a Yamanaka learns is the ability to communicate with others telepathically by sharing thoughts. Not limited to words, the Yamanaka may communicate through sharing pictures, memories, and even learn to share sensory input between themselves and others. Hakuren uses this ability on a daily basis to mitigate her blindness by linking to her pets and have them stream live sensory input into her. She also gives commands through the same method using moving pictures to convey a command. Hakuren found such communication with her pets far more effect than basic verbal communication.

While she was in a neighboring tunnel she has a Sand Tribble burrow through the wall of the tunnel she was in and sure enough the creature finds another tunnel nearby. Hakuren had a sensory link with the tribble so she could see what it sees. What it saw was several Unbent grouped together. Three of them were huddled around a shadow of some sort while another three were snacking on a basilisk. There was also an extremely large one coming towards the basilisk with blade in hand. The hulk of a being would carve into the others for reason unknown. Hakuren would love to get a closer look, but feared that they might notice her animal friend if she commands it to get too close.

The Swarm

It seemed that the adventurer would not be returning to continue to play with them. What a waste. However, that is life. The Swarm did not miss their comrades, and honestly, there was a sense that they wouldn't be long for this world anyway. Their lives, the lives of the Unbent that comprise The Swarm, would not be destined for long sustained lives. It would grow exceptionally shorter without any life to consume. That, however, was a story for a different moment.

The three Unbent and the massive Unbent would regroup around the basilisk. The three that had not been marked with carvings, would get marked by the massive one but that would be the end of it. They would simply depart the scene and head back into the darkness of the tunnel.

Goodbye, Adventurer!
