Hoshitsu made his way through the entertainment district at a nice pace, enjoying the sights and smells of the local area. He was never much fond of the place during the day time, but in the evening everything held a pleasant atmosphere. Making his way past one of the diners, he stopped in for a bit of sushi before continuing. ' with the yen the academy gives me for training, I can finally afford to indulge'. After a small order of crab rolls he made his way back out into the quiet street. His cravings satisfied, Hoshitsu walked down the familiar path he took after a stressful day.
" I'm not used to all this advanced fighting" He said to himself. "Dad always used taijutsu in our training, and sure the punches and kicks hurt like hell, but I've never been electrocuted before". Hoshitsu paused and thought back to his class earlier that day. He remembered the flash of light, and the pain of being struck in the arm with such desperate force. " Shinobi are not a thing to take lightly I suppose. And every fights a lot more ferociously when backed against a wall".
The air was cool and there was a soft breeze flowing through the back ally he always took. The sun was about halfway set, and the sky had a calming dull orange glow against the dark of the night sky. Though the sun was still visible, Hoshitsu made out stars against the eastern sky. The ally lead to a small opening where an abandoned house sat. There was still a rough patch of grass where a pseudo front lawn once lay. The house was made of a sturdy but terribly rusted metal. The door was solid and very much unwelcoming for a house, it had remained firmly locked for as long as he could remember. Hoshitsu climbed a small side ladder up to the roof of the old house. He sat down against the brick chimney and looked out at the village. ' It's almost the perfect time of night'. He smiled to himself as the sun crept down the horizon. ' Its a shame nobody comes here, the view is wonderful. But then again, its nice knowing that this place is empty. No body will bother me here'.
Hoshitsu stared reached in his robes and pulled out a small container. It was an old flip out cigarette holder his grandpa had left him after his passing. From it he produced a cigarette he had gotten from his fathers pack while he was drunk a few nights back. It was one of many he had swiped during his fathers drunken evenings. He rolled it between his fingers for a moment before smelling of the sweet tobacco inside. As he did, the sun made its was past the horizon and night finally took the sky. He lit his smoke and inhaled the sickly sweet leaves and held them for a moment before exhaling. He watched as the smoke drifted up and over the lights of the entertainment district. It trailed its way out and up with the gentle gusts that swept though and dissipated as they drifted up into the wind. Hoshitsu looked up at where the smoke had gone and looked at the stars past it in the night sky.
"perfect" he whispered to himself.
He had never thought he'd be 13 and smoking as much as he did. But leading the kind of home life, with all the lessons and beatings and drunken debacles he faced on a daily basis, he had grown to enjoy them. There was something about the buzz and the night air that just let all the stress melt away.
"after getting zapped, and learning how to climb a wall, I think i deserve a nice smoke".
and with that, he hunkered down to enjoy his cigarette and watch the lights in the city.
