Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Read in the Spoiler!
First off, welcome to NC!
I figure I should give you a quick run-down on what a tutor/class actually does for characters in NC aside from introducing your character to new people! As in NC we do have an active battle-system that takes into account a characters 'Stats'. Tutors/Classes (Like this one) help speed up that process of developing those points much faster than self-training does. But of course, because it is a much more effective way of advancing a character; it does have some stipulations both the Tutor/Teacher (Myself) & the Student (You) have to achieve before the benefits can be acquired. So to keep things legible, I've done a few bulletins below to help identify what is expected of the student while doing these to reap rewards.
Academy System said:
  • Who is considered to be a Teacher?
Anyone IC Chuunin-rank or above that is approved by their Council for teaching classes IC.
  • Who is considered to be a Student?
Anyone who is of the Academy Student rank.

Requirements - Important Key-Notes are Redded
  • At least 1 teacher
  • At least 1 student
  • A thread labeled [CLASS].
    • A user can only teach or be a student/pupil in one thread at a time, this occupies the [TUTOR] or [CLASS] RP slot.
  • Each participant must make a minimum of 5 posts in the thread.
  • Each participant must meet the minimum word count of 1500 words.
  • Success of the thread (in regards to content) is determined by the Council or those the Council designates capable of approving [TUTOR] or [CLASS] Threads
An important take-away is the minimum of 5 posts. While the minimum Word-Count is 1,500 Words (Cumulative across the posts) which means across all 5 posts, if you post 300 Words minimum you will be fine! If you post extra in one post, it just means you get closer to the minimum 1,500 WC total.

Otherwise, if you have any further questions. Feel free to contact myself via PM/DM or anyone on Discord (They're usually nice).

Rewards
Class Teaching: Double training the week the thread is completed for BOTH the teacher and the student plus an additional +2000 yen for the teacher per student.

"Senju, Shizuka ... And Shimamura, Yosuke; huh.." Exhaling out his nose; the young Chūnin had been propped against the back of his class chair, feet swung up atop his desk and had been sifting through the dossiers of two new students. The day was low, the setting sun breaking through the windows of the class; casting heavy shadows across the empty room, filled with the sounds of an empty void- Save the crunch of paper being shifted about in idle interest.

"Ever think of a break lately? They have you rather... Pressed on time." The sound of the voice came from nowhere, and all over the room simultaneously; carrying a grave and heavy tone behind it. "Mh.. A bit-- Wonder why they have these two assigned to me. They show signs of being lazy in their day-classes; but their grades are passable." He had sniffed, folding the papers and tucked them into a folder atop his desk. Crossing his arms, he'd look out to the emptiness of the class, as if watching something that wasn't there; however to him, a brooding shadowy figure lingered, with two glowing orange globes watched him in silence for some time.

"Perhaps it's promise, it happened with the others; they've niched you as a specialty instructor."; wrapping his freed hands behind his neck, emphasizing an example of relaxation. He mused quietly to himself while peering to the ceiling. "Perhaps."
The next day; both Shizuka and Yosuke would receive letters early in the morning. Both addressed by an Academy Instructor by the name 'Shieo' indicating to meet at the Academy Grounds; namely the Obstacle course and seek him out. Beyond a time, which was just before noon; there doesn't seem to be much more.

Upon their arrival, the two whether they came together or separately. Couldn't help but feel the nipping cold of the late-year Kumogakure weather, the grass despite heated systems around the complex still wore frosted tips, trees rocked rigidly and the smoke that plumed around the various steam driven systems that functioned as moving platforms, targets and the like all in the distance hummed and breathed into the cold air.
Amidst the organized chaos of the training grounds of the Kumogakure's remarkable Academy; stood a rather plain looking individual, standing at six-foot one-inch and baring no remarkable features beyond his simplicity of off-black brown hair, and dark brown eyes which bore deep lines underneath each, suggesting either exhaustion or irritation-- Difficult to say at such a stage in the game. Beyond all this, he adorned traditional shinobi slacks and his Chūnin flak-jacket. Underneath his right arm-pit was a clipboard, one would best assume was a means for grading.

Upon making it a few feet away from him, and both being present. He spoke in a droll, monotone voice; while it was loud and clear enough to be discerned clearly. It didn't carry much enthusiasm-- in-fact, it didn't. "Greetings..." Coughing into a balled-hand. "I presume you're Senju, Shizuka and Shimamura, Yosuke... -- Yeah? Good, I'm Shieo; I've been requested to be your instructor today." Running the hand he just coughed into through his hair, he'd eventually tuck it along with the other hand into his pant pockets. "Since I'm not entirely certain your skill levels, we'll start with something between difficult and rudimentary. A tool that every shinobi and kunoichi should know how to do- Well, if they want to be worth their salt."

Coughing once more, he'd turn around on his heel without much more notice. "Come, come." He beckoned them to follow in tow. They didn't go too terribly far, namely to a pair of trees. Upon the trio's arrival, Shieo had idly reached into his shinobi-butt pouch and withdrew two kunai with his index and middle finger. With one fluid motion flicked them about fifty-feet up each on the trees, both had suckers strung to them as well. Peering over his shoulder to the two students a moment, afore turning fully on his heel to face them. "The goal of this class is to acquire the kunai, and the prize is a sucker-- Hurray.." Despite the implied enthusiasm, his tone hadn't changed; nor did his expression. "This will be done, only by using a technique called 'wall-walking' traditionally. Effectively, the goal is to channel and focus chakra to the soles of your feet steadily. If you use too much, you'll shatter the material you're climbing; or lose balance. To little and you'll land on your rump." Coughing once more. His dour-eyed expression observed their reactions afore continuing. "Easier said than done, typically. I find students tend to be a bit over-zealous with their chakra expenditure-- You'll get a hang of it eventually I'm sure. Practice makes whatever and all that-" Focus Shieo Clearing his throat. "To begin, a good starting point is the Tiger Seal; if they haven't shown you it in your day-classes. It looks like this." With a rather lifeless display, he showed the two a resolute holding of the tiger seal, holding it for a few moments so they could adequately replicate it if they gave any sort of thought behind it. "Once you get a hang of it, you'll eventually be able to do it without the seal; in the mean-time, give it a go. I'll commentate and offer advice based off your actions." He had turned on his heel once more, walking towards one of the trees and walked up it vertically with little given effort; making it up past the kunai about twenty-feet. He had crouched down and let his arms hang loosely; it all looked a bit aloof.

"Chop chop. I may have all day, but you two don't."

Yosuke has been living with his Uncle near the Academy since his acceptance, and life, for the most part, was as dull as ever. His parents would write him weekly and ask about all his adventures in the Academy, which Yosuke would always reply saying it wasn't much. Not that it wasn't exciting, what kid wouldn't want to eventually become a Genin and serve for their country as a ninja? But when he wasn't training with his peers and Academy teachers, he was stuck in class, listening to some boring lecture that would just drag on and on and on. That morning, he woke up expecting nothing out of the usual. He sat down at the table to eat breakfast and that's when his uncle set two papers besides his plate.

One was from his father and another was a letter with the name 'Shieo' printed at the center and the academy logo rested at the upper right corner. Once opening it, excitement rushed through his body, giving him a warm, fuzzy feeling in the pit of his stomach. He swallowed his breakfast and prepared to head out a few hours later. When it was about time he pulled on baggy pants, fingerless gloves (with tape wrapping underneath) and a dark blue long sleeved shirt with a high collar keeping his chin from view. He reached the obstacle course in record time, walking faster to the academy grounds than he ever had before. The entire way there he kept daydreaming on who his sensei was and what he may look like. How strong he was, if he had radical hair, crazy battle scars, a cool story to tell, or at least cooler features than the Academy teachers.

He walked into the Obstacle Course area, and found a girl with big green eyes looking about. Something possessed him to walk over to her,and talk to her. He waited until his icy eyes locked with hers then he walked over, hands shoved in his pocket, “Hey,” a plume of white steam danced from his lips and out into the air, “Did you get a letter from an instructor telling you to meet him here?

He should be around here somewhere,” He glanced around, “...there,” He walked off, expecting her to follow. They met with the,very...normal, looking man that they would eventually come to know as their sensei. He introduced himself as the Shieo man that sent out the dispatch, and when he called them by name Yosuke nodded and he glanced at the girl he found at the entrance that now stood besides him.

Senju Shizuka…

He brought them to a tree and gave a very poor effort of showing his ‘excitement’, something that made Yosuke yawn. He knew that he must’ve been experienced to be an instructor of Academy students, and there was something far deeper than what was on the surface, but this guy was beyond boring. All the excitement from earlier drained from Yosuke’s being and he quickly grew disappointed. That was until he added a little competition into the mix, or at least what Yosuke took for competition. A challenge even. He wanted to test their skill to see if they could ascend the tree and grab the kunai, with a sucker attached that danged to and fro.He stared at Shizuka, his eyelids drooping, and face somber, but what he expressed didn’t tell the full story of his excitement that had triumphantly returned.

Time to make things interesting

Yosuke performed the tiger seal, and proceeded to run directly towards the tree. He could feel the chakra levels building beneath the soles of his feet as he began scaling it. Yosuke kept thinking back to everything his father and the school taught him on chakra, and he was certain this would be just as easy as Shieo made it seem. He felt his grip waning a quarter of the way up, and in a sudden panic the bark under his feet turned to shards and he fell onto his butt and hands. He grunted as he made contact with the frozen tipped grass, and glanced up at his instructor who watched the two with piercing dull eyes.

Tch,” Yosuke stood up, defeated, yet not allowing that to stop him again. He performed the seal again, ran up the tree, and fell once more. Then again, then again, and then again. Each time the same thing occurred. His chakra levels were stagnant and he looked fine, then suddenly they faded, he panicked and the chakra exploded out from under him causing him to come tumbling back down.

The last time he fell he landed on his back, and he huffed from exhaustion on the floor. He stared up at Shieo sensei, then up directly towards the overcast sky. The cold air against his sweat made him shiver and he glanced over at the other tree, ‘How is she doing?’ He wondered.

To say that she was truly excited about the extra class in the morning would be a lie. Shizuka wasn’t a morning person, but there was very little she could do about the hour written on the letter she had received. So, instead of sulking over the inevitable, she showered, got some breakfast, and then headed out to see what this would be about.

During the trip she wondered if she had slipped up and miscalculated her grades. Perhaps she was lacking in some class and this was a way of the Academy to punish her. The thought irked her, still, she kept her facial expression in check. As long as she wasn’t sure what this was about there was no need to worry about it. Doing so would only end up unnecessarily taking energy from her. Oh, and she shouldn’t forget about the potential stress that would definitely come with that.

Crossing one of the fields at the Academy she felt the grass being slippery beneath her boots. Tightening the scarf she wore in response to a cold breeze, she cursed whoever had decided that this was the perfect time and place to do some training. Quietly she sunk her chin deeper into the dark red wool, kept her eyes alert for anyone in her near surroundings, and sighed silently when she found someone approaching her.

The first thing to get her attention was his bright colored hair. Not the usual silvery white or blonde bordering on yellow, no, this guy’s locks were pink. And that got him a curious look from the smaller student. She kept quiet, though, until he spoke. The question got him a nod - she didn’t feel like talking, it was kind of cold, and more importantly she was still sleepy.

A hidden yawn, another nod. “I’m Senju Shizuka,” she then mumbled, figuring out that they would be training together today, but the introduction was lost when their teacher appeared. She didn’t repeat the words, afraid that another yawn would cross her lips. It wouldn’t be polite, she knew that much.

Shifting on the grass with her hands in her pockets she listened to Shieo. An ordinary man, handsome in his own way, but kind of old if you asked Shizuka. She did find herself appreciating his quiet way of working. Unlike some instructors he didn’t bother with raising his voice, showing off jutsu in an explosive manner, or try to question them about their skills and abilities. He wanted to judge himself which was more than just fine with her. There was only one thing that struck her as slightly odd, his strange sense of humor - if it was that?

With no time to study him further, she nodded, then followed the example set by Yosuke. Except that she didn’t run. Walking up to the tree she studied it briefly, looking which side was the flattest. Somehow her idea was that the less bumps there would be, the easier it would be to latch onto the tree. Carefully performing the tiger seal, she let the chakra spread across the soles of her feet. Then put her right foot onto the trunk. By then her ‘classmate’ was already walking over his tree, but she didn’t let that push herself further. Calmly testing if her foot was stuck, she exhaled and then added her second foot.

It put strain on all of her muscles aside from the control she was trying to hold over the chakra flow. Tensed, she slowly took another step. The chakra held. Shizuka let her field of vision narrow to the tree and nothing else. Muscles had to remain the same so she wouldn’t bend backward, and once that was on automatic, she continued her walk. One, two. Three more steps. She was slowly moving up her tree when something akin to an explosion on her side had her slipping. Pushing off the trunk she turned backward before landing in the grass on her heels. Rolling back one time, in order to lessen the blow from landing onto the ground, she then quickly got up.

Out of the corner of her eye she could see some damage on the tree which Yosuke had been climbing. It seemed that he was putting too much energy into his steps while she held back. Set on getting further up this time, she returned to the trunk, performed the seal, then started to follow the same path from before. After a couple of steps she tilted her head to the side. The chakra held, so did her muscles. At least for now.

“Shieo-san,” she suddenly found herself wondering aloud. “why is it always trees that we use for this?”

Hopefully it wasn’t a dumb question, or Yosuke might laugh at her. That wouldn’t be fun.

Her gaze slid toward the other students, and her feet followed. A second later her heels touched the frosted grass, she rolled and then jumped up again. Eyes on the two men, she waited for an answer first.

And there Shieo hung parallel to the ground below him; his arms remained somewhat lifeless until he had drawn on one of them to rest atop his knee, angling his hand to hold his head up a bit. Perhaps it was just an attempt at nerving the two students, or he was being lazy. All things considered, his dour-eyed vigilance lay on the two ever so.

To begin everything, it seemed Yosuke; the boy- It's a boy... Right? Shieo mused the thought to himself, Think so, why don't you ask him? ... Maybe I will. Squinting, he thought about it. And figured it may be best to avoid distracting the students too much; nevertheless it seemed the boy had made the first move. Hasty and eager to prove himself, who wouldn't want to?
'thud' "Score one for not listening goes to Yosuke.. woo..." Again, rather unenthusiastic ally he tried to convey some sort of remark. It seemed harmless enough, but underlying to everything- He knew that most people often regarded torment as a way to face adversity, or crumple; but if he were the latter the young-boy wouldn't be vying to become a shinobi- Now would he? Despite his... Encouragement,
Yosuke was displayed to have made a number of attempts- And each one was accounted for by Shieo voicing aloud each failed attempt. All in his droll, monotone voice; it was like being drug through mud; "Two... Three...-- Four-- Five.. Considered using less chakra? Focus more on what you're running on, rather than yourself running. The latter should come naturally." Letting out an audible sigh; his gaze shifted to Shizuka.

For the most part, she appeared to have a relatively stable control of her chakra. If a bit unrefined; it at least did the trick. Until it didn't; "Good control of your chakra, not so good at keeping focused, huh." Puffing up his cheeks, he wiggled his fingers on the dangling arm; after-all, gravity was still affecting him despite the ninja-voodoohoodoo he was performing to defy it.

“Shieo-san, why is it always trees that we use for this?”

Good question under normal circumstances. Having raised his dangling arm, all just to tap his chin rather lazily. "Hm... Well, I suspect because they're vertical instead of horizontal-- We live on a mountain that has an extreme abundance of trees; and generally speaking they're not a huge concern if you break them. Break a wall or something and that costs the village money..." He shrugged.

After some silence he looked to Yosuke and then to Shizuka who found themselves idling on the ground. "Y'know... I know I said I have all day, but I don't want to sit here all day. --" Closing one eye, he exhaled through pursed lips. A moment of silence paused through the air from Shieo; "Yosuke; I'll get you to try again. This time, instead of running. Walk- focus on the seal at first and establish a solid layer of chakra on the soles of your feet. Press your first foot against the bark and acknowledge how it feels chakra is an extension of yourself; you can use it to help actuate how much chakra you need for that particular part of the tree. It will continue to alter the higher you get on a tree- or any object. It'll take some effort, but start slow. It's not a race."

His eye then guided to the dullen girl. "Dunno what your excuse is. From the looks of it, you're a bit spacey and need to focus on.. Well focusing; maybe do some leg-presses. Being a shinobi requires some physical strength. You'll have a crappy time if you can't lift your own weight." Inhaling a pause, he then continued. "In the meantime, try to keep low. You won't be extending the force of gravity across your entire body as exaggeratedly this way; you'll be able to assert what strength you have onto a smaller physical area on your body. It'll be heavy, but manageable."

Yawning briefly, he awaited for the two to begin their efforts again; then casually reached back to his ninja-pouch fishing for something. Once, and if they got about half way to their designated marks. He'd rather nonchalantly drop two kunai down towards the two Students. Sharp ends facing them; "Stage two, no one said it was going to be a cake walk... Gotta' know how to avoid things, else you'll be a sitting duck."

Yosuke laid on the grass beneath the tree, breathing heavily in a fit of exhaustion. Sweat dripped down the sides of his forehead, and the warm mist from his lips swayed in the air with every breath. He watched his Sensei, who was looking down at them in unimpressed fashion. His face was tinged with a pink, flushed color, from embarrassment of failing so much at what appeared to be such a simple task. It got to the point that the Kunai, and the sucker hanging from it, was mocking him. Add Sensei Shieo’s constant torment after each failure, and it made the task that much more irritating.

Yosuke sighed, bawling his fists in anger at his own faliure, before sitting up on the icy foliage. He watched as Shizuka attempted walking up the tree, and would fail just as he did. He listened closely to Shieo’s remarks based on her actions. His mind began to race, and he realized where he stood on the spectrum. He had the physical ability, yet his technique was flawed and as Shieo mentioned (and warned him about) he was using too much chakra. Meanwhile, she had the technique down pact, but her focus was failing her. He was analyzing the way she scaled the tree, and began to contemplate using her technique, and just as he stood to attempt it Shieo began to speak once more.

"Y'know... I know I said I have all day, but I don't want to sit here all day. --" Yosuke watched him with eager eyes. Despite his dull, and unenthusiastic attitude Yosuke wanted to impress the man with the skills he knew he possessed. He listened closely to his advice, nodding once he said that the chakra should feel like an extension of himself. The words he finished his advice with echoed through Yosuke’s mind and he stared directly at the tree. It’s not a race.

He brought his hands together, performed the seal, and focused on the layer of chakra beneath the soles of his feet. Then he headed for the tree, just as Shizuka would. One foot first, then the next. He now stood on the tree bark, staring up the branches, then taking it one step at a time. He made it a quarter of the way, stumbled a bit, slid down the tree a few inches and then regained his balance. A smile swept across his lips, as he quickly regained his confidence. He continued to scale the tree, getting closer and closer to the Kunai. He watched the sucker as it swayed, getting closer with each step. He was gonna do it. He began to run now, but unlike last time, the chakra didn’t blow out from under him.

Maybe Shieo Sensei wasn’t that bad after all. If you get passed his boring nature, he’s a pretty good teacher.

But by the time he reached the halfway mark, he did something that made Yosuke’s thoughts fade away. He wasn’t suspicious of anything, until Shieo began speaking.

"Stage two, no one said it was going to be a cake walk…”

“Huh?”

He saw a silvery color, contrasting with the green color of the trees. It was fast, and it was coming quickly. That’s when he realized it was coming at him. His eyes widened, and he arched his back as best as he could to avoid the kunai. It snipped at his hair, taking off a few strands and with his focus coming undone so did the chakra soles on his feet. He tumbled onto the floor, landing on his side with a big grunt. He groaned in pain and rolled on the floor as he held his side.

Finally, he composed himself and crawled onto one knee, “Y-You could’ve killed me, you could’ve killed us,” One of his eyes were closed and the other droopy eye stared up at his Sensei’s unemotional face. He didn’t seem to care, of course he didn’t. Yosuke groaned as he stood up from the kneeling stance, and rather than complaining performed the seal and ran up the tree again. Now he knew what Shieo was about, and this wasn’t going to be as easy as he thought it would be.

Unable to do much more than slightly roll her eyes at his comment she knew that he was right, at least to an extent. She could keep her focus, in her opinion, just not when things were blowing up in her face (not that it actually had, but it had been close enough). Of course, she already knew, that Shieo wouldn’t see that as an excuse to lose control of her chakra. Shinobi should be able to keep focus and breeze through any sort of hardships. The words came floating out of nowhere. One of the teachers must have said it at some point; some things stuck without you realizing it, a bit like mud. Apparently that wasn’t the case with her feet, getting stuck to the bark that is.

What a hassle, she thought with a short sigh before returning to her task of climbing the tree. Doing multiple things at the same time was easier said than done. He knew, she knew. Everyone knew it. Nobody said a thing, because learning how to do it was the reason they had gathered here. She almost wished that she had practised more in class, maybe the letter of this morning wouldn’t have arrived then. Damn it, having saved up energy and time back then she was losing it now in an even less comfortable way than it would have been the case in class. Whining about it wouldn’t work, it would only cost her effort. The road only led to one option. That’s why she took into account Shieo’s advice and decided to stay a bit closer to the tree. The biggest chance to get out of this quickly was to succeed in what he wanted from them.

If only she knew how to.

Figuring that more chakra, and less attention to her surroundings, would be the solution, she let some more energy come to the surface. Crackling very lowly it scorched the tree, but didn’t cause it enough damage for the bark to burn or scatter. With the tips of her fingers touching the rough surface she was walking on, Shizuka almost felt like a monkey. A part of her wondered if she should try to let her hands cling to the surface as well. Perhaps that would bring more grip and stability?

Lost in her own world of tree climbing and chakra motion the kunai came into vision so close that she didn’t really have time to dodge entirely. No matter how she would move some part of her body would end up being pierced. Hence, without thinking further, she snatched her own kunai from the little pocket at her side and slammed away the threat. Of course, by the the grip on the tree was long gone.

In an effort not to smack into the ground and go home with a concussion she grabbed one of the side branches. It cut into her hand a bit, because she was already falling and the branch was more of a twig than anything else. At least it didn’t break, and somehow managed to slow down her fall enough for her to land on her feet. Once on the ground she took a look at her hand. Blowing gently on the redness in her palm she then put away the kunai and glared at their teacher whose bored face was studying them.

What an annoyance.. he wouldn’t make it easy for them. Her green eyes slowly blinked, but she didn’t complain. Doing so would only cause unnecessary trouble. Adults always liked to be right. It’s why she rolled with it, went back to the tree, gave a quick nod at her partner in crime and performed the necessary seal.

Now they knew that something would come at them. A kunai? A stream of water? Fire?

She had no idea what Shieo used, but she was pretty sure that he was well skilled in a lot of things. Oh, this morning would be such a pain in the ass.

“Y-You could’ve killed me, you could’ve killed us.”

This was met with a carefully countered arch of his left brow. "You are training to become a shinobi and a kunoichi alike... Death is only the start of what you need to be worried about. Besides; a kunai wound can be recovered."

Exhausting a momentary sigh. During this time, he had casually drew out a few more kunai; it appeared at the very least, that this was going to be the reoccurring theme. They were making progress, but progress isn't fully learned until there was something to learn off it; a means to gain an astute understanding of what they were using and why it aided them, of course- Avoiding kunai wasn't inherently challenging in the grand scheme of things, but they were still developing; besides if one or two of them managed to cut or stab into them- They'll certainly aim to avoid it more. The more they focus on the matter of avoiding certain injury, the less they'll sweat the challenge of staying on the tree.

"Yup." He quietly spoke to himself, it wasn't much of a concern if they heard him or not. But they saw he was wielding the kunai in both hands; and a number of them each. Reality was certain to set in, the ante was increased and he was certain their stress and adrenaline was starting to kick in to over-drive. After-all, classes were never so straight-forward to solely teach one thing, but a number; conditioning them at a young age made them sufficient in menial and straining tasks and eventually once and if they got to the concern of death and their own injury- it wouldn't affect them. A twisted teaching method, but Kumogakure wasn't known to be inherently kind to their students either.

Maybe that's why Shieo was unsettling, he was ... Kind- But not.

Immediately after the two started their attempts once more; the kunai would start falling at random intervals and different starting points to make them have to focus on dodging.

Again, once the two managed to get about half way- Shieo had made a few seals with his left hand and the ground below started to hiss and smoke; scorching marks begun to liter the ground- the earth itself started to curdle into a boiling mess. "Good... Now you have no choice but to figure out how to stay on the trees. Mh.. Taking advantage of the ground too much." Following shortly after, for every one kunai he had dropped towards them, were now two.

Your thoughts on if they fall? Mh.. Couple burn marks, won't kill them.

Yosuke was proud to be a student in Kumogakure, hell, he was proud to be a citizen of his village. He grew accustomed to grueling training, and adapted to the boring lectures. But when he came here this morning, with the overwhelming excitement to be trained by a Sensei, he didn’t take into account how tough it was going to be. Of course, the fact that they were assigned to run up a tree didn’t help him realize what he would be going through. But here he stood, a kunai with some of his hair strands on the floor, and a sucker hanging from a tree still tormenting him.

He watched as Shieo cocked his eyebrow, and shot a comment at him that made him feel childish for not keeping the mentality of a Shinobi. He looked at Shizuka, shared a nod, and performed the seal. All the while, making solid eye contact with Shieo. His eyes dropped about half way, but the determination behind them could be mistaken for hostility.

Challenge accepted…

He ran towards the tree that had a few splintered spots from where his chakra previously bursted. His arms swung lifelessly behind him and he tried a different tactic, leaping from one spot to the next rather than short steps from running. When the Kunais started raining down upon him, he reached into his pouch and removed a kunai of his own, swiping them away. He swiped away at another Kunai, but immediately after, another one appeared and struck his own right out of his hand. He kept leaping and whenever a kunai came he dodged it to the best of his abilities, usually missing it by a few inches.

Finally he reached the halfway mark on the tree, and cocked an eyebrow when Shieo began doing something with his left hand. Yosuke’s eyes widened when he realized it was a seal being performed with one hand. He heard a crackling and hissing coming from below. He stopped for a second, and focused the chakra on his fingertips which he pressed against the tree to look down.

A fire jutsu! But it’s not coming at us? He looked at Shieo and furrowed his eyebrows, then a half smile formed on Yosuke’s lips. He’s keeping us from touching the floor. Smart move Shieo Sensei.

Another Kunai sped past him, and he tried moving aside but it grazed his shoulder. He winced, but continued his climb up the tree, the adrenaline being his biggest ally. Then he was struck with an idea, although he couldn’t decide if it was smart or not. But this wasn’t a time to be thinking, as shown from the laceration that he suffered. He focused his chakra on his fingertips again and simultaneously reached in this pouch, pulling out his only two ninja stars. Then, without hesitation leaped from one spot to the next and whilst in mid air launched them at Shieo sensei.

This should distract him, giving us enough time to reach the top!

It got worse, of course it did. A minute later there was a scratch in her forearm, bleeding, and two kunai in the tree that she was climbing. Staying low didn’t really help anymore; she had to dodge the incoming attacks and for that it was easier to stand and run instead of crouch. This led to her sliding down the tree a couple of times. Then land on the ground again. The hopping was working on her nerves but she preferred that above getting more cuts. So, when the ground changed into a hot mess with dangerously sizzling and smoking stones which cracked from the heat, she gritted her teeth.

Things were getting out of hand here.

Grabbing on of the kunai that’s been in the tree she was lucky not to slip any further. The little blade had given her just enough grip to gain some time - time she used to stabilize the chakra flow in her body. Quickly pulling it out, and with heat licking at her heels, she returned to walking the tree, said kunai between her teeth. Next time, when the kunai came, she quickly ran to the other side of the tree.

thud thud

She heard the blades go into the tree. A part of her felt a bit bad for damaging it so many times, but wood was strong. Wood was resilient. Like the Senju! At least according to the legends she’s heard about. What a bother that she didn’t really have an excuse like some of the kids whose parents had nothing to do with wielding chakra and being a shinobi.

Trying to return to the side where the candy hung, she found it somewhat dangerous. Her eyes widened when more kunai flew into her direction. Unable to do much, she figured that shinobi didn’t have to play fair. So.. she jumped to a nearby tree. Latching onto it like a lizard she then climbed a bit higher, around it, and onto a side branch. By then her partner had taken it upon himself to attack their sensei which was retarded but very much appreciated.

In the time he used to throw his weapons, she let the kunai she’s been holding in her possession fly toward the candy hanging above Yosuke. Perhaps, with some luck, her blade would break free the other kunai and have it fall toward the ground. Not that the candy would come out as one whole should that be the case, the ground was too hot, but there was always some hope that Yosuke would find a way to catch it. Or pin it to the tree with his own kunai, perhaps a bit lower. That way they might get to at least one of them.

Retracing behind her current tree, she realized that all of her thoughts had been directed elsewhere - the hanging onto the bark hadn’t cost her any effort. And after a step to the side, she knew that neither did walking on the tree’s surface. The chakra flow had readjusted itself, coming out in small amounts necessary for Shizuka to stay where she was.

Shieo had remained keeping his movements relatively predictable, static almost; a matter of only having to keep himself focused as little as possible perhaps. But as he continued to let the kunai fall towards the two students. Figuring a cut here or there wasn't anything that was going to be significant to cause any issues. Beyond that, his attention span drifted in and out; with the boiling earth below only made to encourage a bit more enthusiasm towards their success.

While his attention drifted between the two, and their increasing momentum; notably beginning to wield chakra at a better degree and devising alternative tactics to employ during their practice; somewhat brought his mind back into reality, enough to almost draw a smirk. They're adapting, seems the stress developed the better of the two spectrums. Yeah... Would have been a bit of a challenge explaining burn scars.

Given the increase in their movements and actions, his half-lidded eyes lost their glazed feature and begun to observe with a bit more alacrity. Witnessing Shizuka leap from one tree to the other had drawn his focus for a moment, however when the glitter of shuriken flickering through the air caught his gaze out of sheer habit. Sniffing, he'd shifted his weight to the side and angled his body to avoid the flying metal disks without injuring himself, or distracting himself much from his movements. While it had stalled his dropping of kunai for a few seconds, he had taken into account of Shizuka's flying kunai towards the mark they were aiming for; and had intentionally avoided dropping any of his own to deflect hers. Figuring, a wise action should be subtly encouraged.

Having coughed once, he had stopped dropping kunai shortly after. Or perhaps he ran out.

Seems they're taking into heart some of the things I said, suppose I can cut some slack and let them get to the kunai.

Once, and if they acquired the kunai and suckers. Shieo would have hopped off the tree and fell to the ground; bending his knees as he landed with the aid of some chakra. The scorching marks along the ground remained, but the fire jutsu itself had since subsided.

((Sorry about the lack-luster post, been extremely exhausted this week))

Yosuke watched as Shizuka’s kunai struck the one hanging at the top with the sucker. His eyes shined, victory finally being within his grasp. Smart move Shizuka!

He stretched out his arm and snatced it out of the air, holding it in the air victoriously while looking at his partner from the opposite tree. His blue eyes were bright, full of joy, and there was still a half smile concealing his exuberance. He climbed down onto a branch that was thick enough to hold his weight, bending down into a crouched position with one arm on his knee, and his other hand twirling the kunai.

The sucker was in his cheek, and the confident half smile didn’t fade. Yosuke Shimamura, the lazy kid who likes a challenge, he sure did live up to his name. He watched his sensei from the crouched position for a few seconds, threw the kunai into the soil at the bottom of the tree and jumped down. He walked over to Shieo with his hands in his pocket and the adrenaline eventually fading, his half smile vanishing with it. He nodded at Shizuka, thanking her for her smart thinking, and stared up at Shieo.

The man towered over Yosuke’s 5’4 frame, and the cold breeze of Kumogakure sent a shiver through his sweating body. He watched him, analyzing the simple face and looking into his half-lidded eyes. He didn’t speak for a while, then broke the silence,“Shieo Sensei,” His voice was drab, “This sucker...sucks,” He clasped both of hands over the back of his head with a toothy smile and a chuckle behind it.

Coming into the class, Yosuke didn’t expect the instructor he got. Shieo Sensei was...different. And not in the way that Yosuke expected his instructor to be when he imagined him. But this was the perfect case of don’t judge a book by its cover. The speed in which he taught them how to ‘wall-walk’ was incredible, even though his techniques were different. The boy didn’t forget what Shieo said before the class began though.

His blue eyes moved to Shizuka, then back to Shieo, and the curious question popped up, “So...do you know our skill levels now?”

(It’s completely understandable, the holidays have been crazy for me too, so this week has been a wild one)

Against all hopes it had actually worked. Yosuke got to grab the kunai with the candy attached to it and hers was lost.. but she didn’t sulk about it. In fact, the weapon she had just used hadn’t been hers to start with - she had taken one of the kunai Shieo had thrown at them. So, it could be missed. Now the only thing left to do was get the other kunai assigned to them. Quietly lurking around the branches she realized that the rain of kunai had stopped. Figuring that it was now or never, Shizuka launched herself from her shelter onto the damaged tree from before. With some quick steps she got close enough to make it to the kunai in one jump. Using her other hand to hang on the branch, because it took her a moment to realize that the fire was gone, she swung back and forth like a ripe apple about to fall.

With a gentle thud, and a roll, she appeared next to Yosuke who was already enjoying his candy. Studying hers, she wasn’t sure if she wanted it. In fact, she preferred to eat something refreshing.. like some grapes or a green apple. Eyeing the two males from her crouched position where the warmth of the vanished jutsu was protecting her from the colder wind, she smiled tiredly. Eyes drooping a little now that she was allowed to relax a bit.

“Here,” handing her sensei the kunai with the wiggling sucker, she exhaled first, then explained. “I don’t really like those, besides,” pausing, she let her eyebrow raise with some fake wonder. “what if you’ve poisoned them?”

To be honest, she was joking. A lazy attempt to be funny, but a part of her did wonder about it. What if eating the candy was actually a part of the test as well? Some sort of class on getting to the goal but keeping your hands off? Controlling oneself? Nahh, she figured that she was taking things way too far. There was nothing wrong with the candy. At least she hoped for Yosuke.

Giving her partner a half-smile, she waited for Shieo to judge their performance.

Without time having lapsed much afore the two students gathered afore him. Inevitably, Shieo had drawn both his hands into his pant pockets and observed them in momentary silence; it didn't take long for the two to disrupt the silence. Which in the end, was an acceptable reaction.

“Shieo Sensei,” | “This sucker...sucks,”

"Probably, it's a couple months old-- Glad you're enthusiastic to taking it off my hands though." Despite Shizuka's protest to having it, and offered it to Shieo; he only gave her a moments glance without reaching out to accept it. Conveying without words that she was to hold onto it, or dispose of it, somewhat making it her problem.

“What if you’ve poisoned them?"

Sniffing once, he seemed to ponder the idea. Coming to a conclusion, conveyed by shrug, "Too much work; besides, poison is an inefficient means to kill you two. I mean, I have you both out alone with no one watching anyways- Much easier to just handle it the old fashioned way." His tone didn't budge from it's normality, however it was difficult to discern if he was being genuine or jerking their chains simply out of both context and his lack of tonal communication.

It wasn't much farther long that Yosuke piped up about the “So...do you know our skill levels now?” This was met with his attention drifting to the sky as he put some thought into the question, or at least it appeared that way.
With only a few seconds of silence from the Chūnin having passed before he spoke up yet again. "Well... Hm-- It's clear you both have had some investment in learning the paces of being a shinobi; and are coming to a close of finalizing your Academy days- And you both worked with some cohesion not always found in students. But; as I'm sure you suspect, there are things that can be worked on. You both have displayed subtle, but critical issues in the thought-process and nuances of what you should be abiding by during any situation." Pulling his hand out of his pocket, he coughed into a balled fist. "Yosuke, you are too forward in everything you do. While I'm sure you don't intend it to come off that way, you go in first and think later; it's a fast track way to end with death, or worse. For example, your partner caught one of the nuances. Trust; you barely know me, yet you're eating a sucker. -- Shizuka, you're a bit of a contrast; your initiative is holding you back, you'd rather expect something to fall into place instead of taking it by the reigns and drive it. If you can't just barely cut by, you get agitated and you start to lose track, focus and inevitably fail under the pretense of even some pressure." Seeings how his hand was already out, he expressed his comments with some hand-motions to help keep his speech interesting to the subconscious, given his tone couldn't. "Understandable from both your perspectives how those attitudes can in ways, work in the Academy. But because you fixate yourselves on what's wholly comfortable and driving you into complacency, you miss things. A lot of .. things. I don't expect you to remedy that immediately either, but keep it in mind."

He coughed once more. Returning his hand back into his pant pocket. "I mean to congratulate both of you as well for picking up on the jutsu. Feel proud; but before I leave, I figure I should give you one last piece of advice." Turning his foot to the side as if preparing to walk away, "When you notice small things that seem too good or bad to be real. It probably is-- No one in their right mind has that many kunai." He begun to walk away. After a few meters of him being apart from the two, they started to feel slightly uncomfortable; like a wave of vertigo their vision shifted and warped. And they both stood where they initially introduced themselves to Shieo earlier in the day. All without wounds, and the ground beneath the trees was cleared of any scorch marks-- And the trees all unharmed.

You like illusions too much... Mh... Makes sure nothing can be brought back to me. He cleared his throat as he left the obstacle course grounds; figuring he'd let the two kids figure themselves out.

Yosuke shifted the lollipop from one cheek to the next as he watched his sensei talk. He smiled when he mentioned that they’re close to coming to the end of their academy days. There was more behind the smile than met the eye though. No more school meant no more lectures, and more time out in the field completing missions and doing things that normal ninjas would do. Plus he would get that nifty little hitai-ate. The day his parents saw him with his head gear was the day Yosuke dreamed of since they threw him into the academy two years ago.

He snapped out of his daydream when Shieo said his name. His smile quickly faded, and he listened closely to all the advice being posed. He nodded as the man spoke about his straight forward behavior and lack of analyzing the situation, pointing out his flaws so that he would better improve himself. He turned his eyes to Shizuka as Shieo spoke to her about what she had to improve. It seemed that what Yosuke lack, she had too much of, and vice versa. Each being a true opposite of the other.

“No one in their right mind have that many kunai.”

“Huh?” Yosuke looked around while Shieo walked away, being left aghast. All this time, he put them under a form of Genjutsu. Without them even knowing in the slightest way. He truly could’ve killed them at any moment, and not anyone would have a clue who did it. But the shock quickly turned into admiration and his lips curved. “He’s not what I expected...but maybe that isn’t such a bad thing.”

He realized he was speaking out loud and that he wasn’t alone. He turned his attention over to Senju Shizuka, lightly blushed and kept both hands behind his head. “Hey, uhm…” Suddenly his awkwardness kicked in now that this wasn’t a class and normal social interaction. When you spend so much time running errands for your Uncle and seen as hermit for never talking in class, you sort of suck at being social. “Good job knocking the kunai out of place, we probably would’ve been stuck on that ‘tree’ a lot longer if it weren’t for your smart thinking.”

He turned on his heels, the opposite direction of where Shieo went off. “I could sure use some hot cocoa,” He spoke under his breath with a sigh and started walking then stopped, turning his head slightly to look at her. “Wanna come with? N-Not that you have to, but I would like to train with you further, and to do that I only think it’s right to get to know you.” He was practically mumbling.

Unable to get rid of the candy she planned to dump it somewhere else, later. If Yosuke had liked it she would have definitely handed it to him, but doing so right now would probably come across as if she was using him like a sort of garbage can, and that would be wildly inappropriate.

Leaving the dilemma of the lollipop for another time she directed her gaze at their sensei. Quite unexpectedly, in her humble opinion, the man actually bothered to break down the training, and what he had gathered from it, for them. Of course there was the subtle but still stinging and ever-present undertone of them being students, but somehow Shieo had succeeded in delivering it gently. Perhaps even with some praise if she had understood him correctly.

Nodding, she took his advice to heart even if it sounded a bit of a bother to approach matters in a different way. Maybe, if he was right, it was actually better to put a bit more effort into doing something so you didn’t need to do it twice to succeed.

“What?” she blinked in confusion as his last comment ripped her out of her reverie. Then the world spun and sank away into another reality. The reality as she soon found out. That realization of having been under a genjutsu for all of this time, well, it was a harsh reminder for her of just how inexperienced and unskilled she was when being compared to their teachers.

“Yeah, I.. I didn’t expect that .” She nodded, referring to the spell they had been placed under. It would take a couple of hours to shake off the thought. His idea of getting something nice to drink wasn’t a bad one. So, she agreed without any hesitation.

“That would be nice, it’s freezing out here,” laughing, she grinned lazily. “thanks, nice catching by the way.”
