Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Yomi was to teach a class today. This was something way out of her scope of her responsibilities, but, there was a line in her job description that said ad-hoc projects as needed. This was really a way for a job to trick a person into doing anything that they wanted them to do and have it covered so the person couldn’t file a report. Also, a person wouldn’t be able to say that’s “not in my job description” and get away with it. The med-nin did not mind too much though. She was on this rehabilitation kick and any contact with those outside of the hospital was good for her overall well-being and her patients by extension.

Dressed in all black with her lab coat draped over it, she sat down at the edge of the desk. On the desk was a slender vase filled with two black daisies. Next to the vase, there was a disheveled stack of papers: The assignment she was going to give the students...If any of them showed up. While she waited, she pulled out her latex gloves and put them on. She neatened the assignment pile and folded her hands in her lap.

Hopefully they would show up...

A medical class was announced the other day and Kaori made her way towards the hospital. She took a deep breath as she stood outside of the hospital, having bad memories of coming here. The last time she was here, she watched her best friend die of an unknown illness, one that not even the medical jutsu could fix. A cancer that spread quickly into the body of a young 8 year old girl that poisoned her and killed her. Her death was slow and painful and nothing she could do as an 8 year old would have helped. Prayers to the Great Dragon didn't help and she was told that the fact that she doubted the Great Dragon was the sole reason why the Great Dragon didn't save her. The more years that pass, the more she thinks that it was the Great Dragon that had poisoned her body and killed her.

Taking a deep breath, Kaori stepped into the hospital, feeling the cool air blow over her skin. She closed her eyes for a moment and felt the air conditioning. This wasn't a luxury that she had at the Shrine, so she just absorbed it in for a moment. After a brief moment of respite, she walked over to the information desk at the hospital and asked for the location of the classroom.
The person in-charge of the information booth gave her directions towards the class. There seemed to be too many directions so Kaori started to chant the directions to herself over and over and over again. She continued to chant the directions, removing the directions that had been met. However, somewhere along the way, she ended up making a wrong turn, probably having messed up the actual directions near the beginning of her chanting.

She walked around for a few minutes before finding herself on-track, later on in the directions. After a few minutes of being lost and getting back on track, she arrived in a classroom. This classroom seemed more professional than the Academy Classrooms and the area seemed more sanitized than usual. Something about this place seemed a little different. The sensei wore black, the daisies were black, and the room was empty. Was she actually the first person to join? She quickly found herself a seat at one of the desks and waved to the sensei only to stop mid-way through and look over her carefully. She eyeballed her for a moment and pointed at her.

"I know you! You're that lady that took a selfie with Yume!"

Yomi blinked at the pointing girl before she went to lock the classroom door. If students weren’t here now, they wouldn’t be allowed to enter at this point. Yomi had wished that more students had showed up, but, she had no control over what students wanted to learn or if they would show up on time.

“Yes, I was there. My name is Yomi. I am a Med-Nin. Please introduce yourself.” Yomi would listen to the student’s introduction before quickly performing some hand seals. Two medical assistants appeared before the student. Yomi pulled a black daisy from the vase and handed it to one of the Medical Assistants. The other, she handed the stack of paper assignments. The paper was thick with a slight dust on it. The assistant handed Kaori the assignment in Kaori’s hand:
PHI7Lgq.png

The directions read:
You must find all 6 'Sets' in the 12 cards. You may reuse any card to complete all 6 different 'Sets'. A 'Set' is 3 cards in which each individual feature is either all the SAME on each card... OR all DIFFERENT on each card. Any feature in the 'Set' of three cards is either common to all three cards or is different on each card.

The features:
Symbols - Each card has ovals, squiggles, or diamonds on it;
Colors - The symbols are red, green, or purple;
Number - Each card has one, two, or three symbols on it;
Shading - The symbols are solid, striped or open.

You may only submit six sets.

After Yomi was sure that the directions were read thoroughly, she spoke again.

“The assistant with the black daisy will be number one and the other number two. Whoever finds the most sets first, gets the antidote. Then we will move on to part two.”

Yomi smiled and sat down on the desk. “Questions?”

[ooc: Because it’s just you, the Medical Assistants will be a part of this lesson as well. To make it fair to you, I will roll the die to see what answers the two will submit. If there is no clear winner (as in you all submit the same amount of answers), then you will automatically win. Also, I was going to ask that the answers be PM’d but there’s no need for that. Just write out each set you’re submitting. (helps with the word count anyway)]

The first thing she noticed was the door being locked behind her. She cleared her throat and looked towards the woman who introduced herself as Yomi. Yup, she was definitely the one fan-girling over Yume. Teapot calling the kettle black. Well, at the very least this was someone she was a bit more acquainted with rather than a complete stranger. At least that much was re-assuring. However, the fact that there were so many students applying for ANBU where-as she was the only one applying to become a part of the medical team was a bit disconcerting. If the village had just assassins and not enough medics, how would the assassins recover in a timely manner? People simply have their priorities backwards. A happy medium is what's needed for the village to remain self-sufficient.

Suddenly, two clones of the woman appeared from out of nowhere and started to hand out the assignment. A set of instructions and a set of cards each with their own specific emblem to them. She shuffled through the cards to look at the different colors and patterns on them. She didn't understand
the point of these cards until she read the instructions. Hopefully the instructions aren't as much of a mind-blast and a game as Tama-Sensei's instructions were. The other clone, however, had a black daisy in her hand, similar to the Black Daisies given to Yume the other day.

After the instructions were read aloud, she was told that the winner will get the antidote. Wait, what? Antidote? After being asked if she had any questions, Kaori shook her head no and looked at the cards, sticking her tongue out in thought. A light turned on in her head as she began to get to work. She started to shuffle the cards around until she came up with the first set:

Set 1:
Triple Purple Open Diamonds
Single Purple Open Oval
Single Purple Open Squiggle
The thing this set had in common was that they were all colored purple with open shading.

Set 2:
Double Red Striped Diamonds
Double Red Striped Squiggles
Double Green Striped Ovals
The thing this set had in common was that they were sets of 2 and they were all striped.

Set 3:
Single Green Solid Oval
Single Purple Open Oval
Single Striped Red Oval
The thing this set had in common was that they were all single ovals.

After completing the first three sets, she started to think a bit more, turning to look towards the two medical assistants fore a moment before looking back down at her set of cards. The first three were pretty much a 'give-me' and weren't all that difficult, but now these last three weren't as simple.

Set 4:
Single Green Solid Oval
Double Red Striped Squiggles
Triple Purple Open Diamonds
This set has nothing in common and EVERYTHING was completely different from the count, to the coloring, to the filling, and to the shape. If Kaori read the directions properly, this should be a proper set.

Set 5:
Single Green Solid Oval
Single Green Solid Squiggle
Single Green Solid Diamond
This set are all single in numeration and they are all solid filling with the color green.

The final set started to rack Kaori's mind, as if the last two sets didn't bother her in the first place. She looked at each of the cards. Something that the sets would have in common or something that is totally different. This started to bother her a little bit. She placed her hands upon her forehead as she looked at the cards to find the last set. This was going to be the most difficult, obviously, of all of the ones to find. She looked over the cards one more time and another lightbulb turned on.

Set 6:
Double Red Striped Diamonds
Double Red Striped Squiggles
Double Red Open Diamonds
The set has all three cards being 2 shapes in number and they were all red in color. This one, she wasn't too sure about. She grumbled and nodded her head, deciding that was what she would pick. She knew some of these sets might be wrong, but this tapped out her ability to solve this problem. She raised her hand after believing she finished the whole thing and stated. "I think I did it."

Curious. Kaori had no questions, even at the antidote remark. Well no matter, at this point she would begin to start feeling the effects of the poison. Yomi had dosed the students with Lullaby Poison. Kaori would soon be feeling too heavy to continue. This was fine as it would segue into the next portion of the lesson. Yomi took her time with reviewing the answers that they all submitted.

“Medicine, is multifaceted. As kunoichi’s in this field there are many things we should be prepared for, even if you are not a combat medic. Poisons, disturbed Chakra points, and regular broken bones are things we must always account be ready for.” Yomi was uncharacteristically coherent in her speech. Maybe it was because Kaori was a student, maybe it was because she didn’t want to scare the girl away from the medical profession, or maybe her meds were working overtime. Lucky for Kaori.

“So, Kaori, you got three out of six correct. Your Set 3, Set 4, and Set 5. Your first set is incorrect because two out of three of your “number features” are the same. For that answer to be correct you would have to have all singles. Your second set is incorrect because your “color features” are not the same. For that answer to be correct you would have to have all of them be red or, on the other hand, all different. You sixth set is incorrect because you have “shading and symbol feature” issues. For that answer to be correct you would need either to replace the second with a double red solid diamond or change the third one with double red striped oval. Obviously given the parameters of the puzzle, you would not have been able to make those correct sets at all."

Yomi hoped that she wasn’t being too dry with Kaori. This was her first time doing this whole teaching thing and no one had given her any pointers. Maybe when this was done, she’d ask Kaori for a review in order to make her next class better.

"Medical Assistant 1 also got three out of six correct, their Set 3, Set 5, and Set, 6. Medical Assistant 2 got the most correct, four out of six, their Set 1, Set 3, Set 4 and Set 5.”

Yomi then read the correct answers out loud.

Correct Answers:
Set 1. Single Solid Green Diamond
Double Striped Red Diamond
Triple Open Purple Diamond

Set 2. Single Striped Red Oval
Single Open Purple Oval
Single Solid Green Oval

Set 3. Single Solid Green Squiggle
Single Solid Green Oval
Single Solid Green Diamond

Set 4. Triple Open Purple Diamond
Double Striped Red Squiggle
Single Solid Green Oval

Set 5. Double Solid Purple Squiggle
Double Open Red Diamond
Double Striped Green Oval

Set 6. Single Solid Green Diamond
Single Open Purple Squiggle
Single Striped Red Oval

“This part of the lesson was to get you into the habit of looking at and for different patterns. Sometimes an illness or poison doesn’t present in a way we expect. Or as cleanly as it does in a controlled experiment or even in the lab. So, we shouldn’t depend on what we think we should be seeing. While that is certainly important to use as a baseline, paths to an answer are never linear.” Yomi cleared her throat and continued.

“As I said, the person who gets the most correct receives the antidote. I have poisoned you with a special poison called Black Daisy Blessing. In its powdered form it slowly shuts down your internal organs. Since Medical Assistant 2 won, she is dismissed.” Yomi dismissed the clone and it poofed away.

“If you noticed that dust on the papers that was given to you that was the poison that you’ve been inhaling. The intent was to have actual students at this point of the lesson. Since its between you and Medical Assistant 1, you get to tell me, which one of you gets the antidote and why? Don’t take too long to make a decision or you’ll both end up dead.” Yomi would wait for the eventual freak out, or, maybe not. The medic plucked the other daisy from the vase and twirled it between her fingers.

[ooc; Kaori is dosed with Lullaby Powder, however, she’s been told that she is dosed with Black Daisy Blessing. Please RP any way you see fit with the information given. Lullaby Powder just makes you sleep and is in the Battle Rules for your info.]

Things started to get a little fuzzy as the instructor began to give the results. Kaori let out a big yawn, covering her mouth with her detached sleeve.
Her eyes began to blur and the speaking from the instructor started to get a hazy, as if the teacher was speaking in smoke-signals. She had pondered the idea of using poisons, she already planned to disrupt (if not destroy) chakra, and she already knows what the feeling of broken bones felt like; thanks Hiyasu Shiori.

She seemed to have tied one of the clones with the amount of correct answers while both her and one of the medical assistants being beaten out by another medical assistants that got 4 correct. Pattern recognition wasn't exactly her strongest point so she was bound to get at least 50% wrong; which was nearly the same probability as actually guessing. What made that worse was that she didn't just merely guess; she actually put some thought into her answers. This was a great start to her journey in the field of medicine. She let out yet another yawn.

The other clone walked out with antidote in hand and things started getting a bit more difficult to concentrate on. The further on the instructor started the speak, the more cryptic it began to sound. Her ability to comprehend complex thought at the moment grew more and more strained. It wasn't until the information given to her that the paper had a powder on it, a poison, that her mind started to ramp up in activity. Not only did she feel deceived by someone who was supposed to teach her but she also thought of ways to figure out how to get out of this poisonous state.

With a cursory look at Yomi, she noticed the woman was unfazed by the poison. Perhaps she built up an immunity to it or perhaps she was just too strong of a shinobi to be affected by it. Either way, thoughts of using her blood for a cure started tickling her brain; even if she didn't know how to synthesize an antidote using blood (or even synthesize an antidote to begin with). She was posed with a situation on who should receive the antidote
and why. The answer was a near no-brainer that someone of her current mental conditioning could answer.

Her answer began to grow more desperate as the thought of death started to loom over her. If it wasn't a clone of Yomi's her answer would be clearly much different. The clone wasn't human and it didn't have the same feelings or experiences that a human would have. Nothing about a clone is worth saving as it didn't have a mind and could easily be replaced; unlike that of a human being. However, even if the other participants were human, she'd give herself pretty high priority due to the things she still has to accomplish; to become a medic and find a cure for the disease that killed Mina and the fact that her personal self-preservation was important to her. The only people she might give priority to would be those important in the government,
anyone she'd consider to be her dear friend, or someone more deserving of the antidote. However, for this instance, her prolonged existence trumps the existence of a stupid clone.

"Me. I should be the one to take the antidote. That clone of yours could always be replaced and isn't considered a living being. I,
however, am a living being. If I die, my existence cannot be replaced,
" she said before pushing out a yawn. The world started to spin due to mental exhaustion from the poison. She placed her hands firmly upon the desk to try to keep herself from collapsing. "I have things I need to accomplish and people to help. This clone is dependent on your survival," she said as she shook her head trying to shake the sleepiness that the poison was inflicting upon her. She didn't need any other reason other than the one she stated.

Yomi smiled at Kaori. Being a Yamanaka and a poison master with sufficient poison resistance this weak poison wouldn’t bother her any more than a little bit of dust. Yomi had no intention of harming any student but was very curious as to what their thought process would be in these circumstances. Watching Kaori become frantic at the thought of dying the Med-nin cast System Shock on her. She lightly placed her hand on the girls shoulder and it glowed a feint green. The student would feel a slight tingling sensation over her body that would last a few minutes before subsiding. System Shock would break down the poison in her body and she’d be fine.

The medic nodded at Kaori’s response. “Yes, that’s true, you are irreplaceable. But that clone is a replica of me. I would argue that the clone is more valuable than you at this moment. The clone can effectively heal much better than you, right? If we weren’t in this setting and something were to happen, would you be able to help in an emergency?” Yomi posed the questions, not expecting an answer because she wanted the young hopeful to ponder over it.

“As a medic, you’d be forced to make decisions like this daily. Sure, a clone was here today, but, what if it were you and other students? How would you weigh their lives over the others? How would you determine, who lives and who dies especially since we’re all family, connected by our will of fire?” More rhetoric questions for Kaori to flip over in her mind.

Yomi released the other clone, and picked up the daisy that was left behind, taking up a seat next to Kaori.

“Now that the lesson is over, I would like to know what your aspirations are. Tell me what it is you hope to accomplish as a medic?” The Yamanaka folded her hands in her lap, waiting for a response.

A jutsu was cast upon Kaori, causing the poison to dissipate. She felt uneasy and a strange feeling in her stomach after the poison was purged from her body. She laid her head down upon the desk, upon the backs of her hands, and tried to catch her breath. Poisons weren't something to mess with. Something this woman said about her clone being more useful was correct, but it still didn't jive with Kaori much either. "Just you wait. I'll be far more useful than any stupid clone can be," she said as sweat started to pool upon the top of the desk.

She wasn't too happy that a clone, a cheap imitation, was given more worth than she was given. She knew almost nothing about medicine but was willing to learn. She will make Yomi eat her words in the future. She picked her head up off of the desk and turned to look towards Yomi with a grumble. Even though the poison was removed from her system, she still felt like crap; nauseous even. The idea of triaging the person in the most dire circumstances or the most important person came to mind with Yomi's rhetorical question. People, as sad as it might sound, have their own priority. But if the only medic was taken down, who would keep the others healthy? Always protect your white mage!

"I want to be a medic so other people won't have to die to mysterious illnesses like Mina did," she simply answered. Her friend, Mina, died of a mysterious illness at the age of 8. The medics didn't know what the illness was nor did they know how to cure it. Something that could potentially be so easy to diagnose went untreated and thus caused her best friend's death. Mina was the only person to treat her like a human being and not as a bother or as a tool for their own selfish needs. Mina was a kind person and it was because of her that Kaori decided to take on the mantle of becoming a shinobi; to fulfill Mina's dying wish to become a ninja.

"I want to discover these illnesses and eradicate them before they take too many people's lives," she was careful with the way she worded it. In order to solve a disease, one must know the symptoms and one must know how long it'll take someone to die from it. She also needs to learn the cause of the illness. In Mina's case, the disease is still unknown and no research was done on the body; not that Kaori would agree to the research being done on Mina's corpse.

"I also want to keep people in the village safe and healthy," she simply stated. While she wanted to keep people healthy and safe whether it was in the hospital or out in the field, her top priority will be into pathogenic research.

[ooc: As of this post, Kaori is recognized as successfully completing this Medical Class]

"I hope you'll grow up to be much more valuable than me." Yomi remarked. She listened to Kaori's reasons for why she wanted to be a medic. Yomi wouldn't pry concerning Mina, besides, the reasons Kaori gave didn't seem wholly selfish and that was enough for the medic to stop the questions there.

"Ok. You’re dismissed. Thank you for allowing me to teach you this lesson." Yomi stood up and went to the door. She unlocked and opened it allowing for Kaori to exit. She would follow behind her as she did so.

Poisons were an absolute pain to deal with and something she'd have to spend time and energy learning how to reverse. Perhaps there was a medical jutsu, perhaps the one used on her, to cleanse poison from targets. She will most definitely have to learn that jutsu for future use. She cleared her throat and stood up to watch the instructor open the door for her. Her bitter face turned to that of a smile once she was told that the class was dismissed.
She quickly bowed to Yomi and walked out.

After stepping out the door, a sigh of relief washed over her. That was definitely a feeling she didn't want to experience ever again. This was just first in the many hurdles she had to clear in order to become a medic and to fulfill Mina's dreams. With that, she returned back to the shrine.
