The moon shined with all her radiance against the tall trees, with her celestial light illuminating Yomi’s path. While one would expect a place such as this to be abandoned it bustled with life. Insects could be heard crying in the distance, while the nocturnal creatures hunted their prey. Yomi sauntered across the dirt path barefoot, feeling the cool earth beneath her, steering clear of the rocks and broken branches that threatened to tear up her feet. She smiled girlishly and held a black daisy close to her chest. How long had it been that she ventured outside the walls? She could not recall but this was a testament to a successful rehabilitation. The efforts that she made to reintegrate with her community were not made in vain.
Yomi walked forward with no particular destination in mind. She let the path, in all its bendy glory, decided where she would end up. Moving forward, however, brought her into closer where the canopy tightened and blocked the moon’s light. Her bright amethyst eyes were a stark contrast against the to the darkness that flooded the area. The air became thicker, and the wildlife was less boisterous, yet, Yomi didn’t immediately notice. She parted her lips to sing a popular tune made famous by the idol Yume. The Med-Nin’s voice was soft and melodic, but was not strong enough to compete in any shape, fashion, or form with any true vocalist. Still, Yomi could hold a note and it was pleasant to the ear.
Yomi, satisfied with her location, kneeled and placed the black daisy she was holding at the base of a tree. These flowers could only grow in fire country, but, one day she’d hoped she would be able to get them to grow all over the world and cover it with all its dark perfection. She plopped down next to it and continued to sing out. Giving no mind to the fact that she was simply sitting in what could be a dangerous area. What if there were powerful predators lurking? Yomi’s dark hair melted in with the scenery, as she tapped her hands against the ground to the beat of her song.
“Ouch!” Yomi yelped as she felt something enter her bare hand. Reflexively the girl pulled her hand close. A splinter had punctured her skin. The Med-Nin looked at the palm of her hand with a frown. She immediately knew it was too deep to dig out with a nail, but, she would pick at it anyway. The Physician in her also knew that the more she poked at it, the more she was susceptible to an infection.
She stopped during her deep dive as she suddenly felt as if she was being watched. The Med-Nin’s eyes widened as she looked about left and right. She listened and waited to see if it was just her imagination or something sinister was about to occur. Suddenly, being barefoot didn’t seem like a such a good idea because running would not be as effective. Yomi shrugged and went back to picking at her hand.
“One issue at a time.” Yomi mumbled to herself.
