Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Today was finally the day that a young man from the Academy was scheduled to take his graduation exam and see if he was truly ready to become a shinobi of this village. It had likely been a long journey filled with hardships, turmoil, and quite a few laughs along the way but he finally had been given the opportunity to show to the Academy that he was ready to take on the stress of the shinobi world and put his life on the line to cement his name in the history books that the wonderful Oracles continually added to. Hopefully, he was ready for what his examiner had in store for him because one again, he was being sent to the Academy in the early morning hours with no information about who was giving him his exam aside from them being a member of one of the prestigious clans of the country. Maybe, just maybe he would be fortunate enough to have Lady Yanshi of the Byakko Clan giving his examination to him since she was one of the more calmer individuals in the village, but the chances of that happening were slim to none. Then again, maybe he would be given his examination by the 9th Kazekage, Takahashi Sousuke, who had a lot more free time recently since he stepped down from being Kazekage and gave the title to the rightful heir to the throne in many people's opinions: Sunahoshi Katsuo. Only time would tell what this young child of the village would have to endure and who he would have to endure it by. For his sake, he best pray to the gods that there was going to be mercy on his side.

The time for the actual examination had been set for 9 AM on a Saturday in the training grounds just outside of the Academy. He was told via letter that he was supposed to bring anything that he would regularly use in combat and for training with him as it was likely going to be one of the examinations that numerous members of the Academy typically gave. The details of what the exam would entail however had been kept off the letter to the male along with the name of who would be giving the exam as already mentioned. However, the letter did mention that the examiner was not one of the names well-known around the village, but had somewhat of a reputation depending on the branch that one spoke to or the family that the individual was a part of. To make matters even more odd, the letter had no signature but stated that the individual who wrote it was excited to play around with another piece of prey to see if they were worthy of their father's time. Hopefully, they were or that likely would mean failure in their exam and another year of classes and tutors which would become quite dull and boring quickly.

As time approached ever so quickly, the young Genin-to-hopefully-be would notice when he approached the training grounds that the examiner was not there waiting for him which had a striking resemblance to Lady Yanshi's appearance in his tutoring session with all of those other young minds. He need not worry as the examiner was nearby likely waiting on him to make his appearance or hidden away in an office in the Academy waiting around till it was time to go outside and have play time with their prey. Yes, this was going to be quite the experience for this young man known as Domen Nobu so hopefully he had plenty of rest and had prepared long and hard for this day so he did not disappoint his family, his village, his friends, his examiner, and most importantly himself.

Today was the day. Years of academy training had prepared Nobu, but even then not everyone always succeeded. Nobu, however, wasn't worried about his success rate. He was the product of what he believed to be Sunagakure's mightiest bloodline. He was fast, smart, strong, and great with jutsu... Success was guaranteed! That didn't mean Nobu was unprepared. He wore a light, green flak jacket over his clothing, and carried his tanto across the small of his back. He even had a few doses of poison in his pocket and some coins to use for the Body Switch Jutsu. The trip to the Academy from his home up in the Desert Crown wasn't too long, and someone dressed like a genin sure didn't attract much attention. Nobu took the time to practice a few hand seals, clapping his hands together in the different signs as he walked. It was just mundane practice, going through the motions, but it also served as a kind of warm-up.

Nobu's arrival at the training fields came with a spark of annoyance. First that teacher from the class, and now the person running his exam. Nobu expected his teachers to be on time for the times they set for themselves, but apparently even that was too much to ask. While he waited, Nobu checked the hair elastic holding his white mane tied into a ponytail. Having that in his face would make this exam more difficult than it really have to be. Maybe he should've gone for a haircut before his exam.

The fact that Nobu's thoughts were on such inconsequential things despite the upcoming exam spoke volumes about his overconfidence. If he really didn't feel the need to be worried, well... The examiner would no doubt have a good time getting that out of him. The original unsigned letter had been weirdly-written, but Nobu had just figured that to be an intimidation tactic to be used against kids like him to unnerve them. Well, he wasn't going to let something like that get to him! He was itching to get started. His first step towards fame and reputation!

Standing at the entrance of the Academy, a white haired individual would smirk as the examinee would walk right by their location and head straight towards the training grounds where their graduation exam would be held today. The individual taking the exam, who was known as Domen Nobu, appeared to be confident and determined to attempt to graduate from this prestigious academy and try to begin his life as a shinobi of the Hidden Sand. However, he had no idea what to expect entering this exam as he had been left in the dark yet again and was only given enough information to arrive on time and know exactly where he needed to be as to be prompt and not set a bad example for himself. First impressions were something after all and it would have not settled well with his examiner if he decided to show up even five minutes late especially if he knew who he was going to have to deal with today which would come in due time. Everything had a time and place and the time was simply not here yet so he needed to be patient and allow himself this extra time to prepare since graduation exams had truly been a form of Hell in recent times especially when someone was affiliated with Byakko Kyuji, the descendant of the legendary celestial beast known as Lord Byakko. Their position in the village had not been an important detail, but if they knew this special individual, they typically were harder on the examinees as Lord Byakko Kyuji did not like to be easy on the children. When one was easy on them, it only softened them and thus, installing a little bit of fear and concern actually helped many students grow up quickly which was needed more than ever with how the political landscape of the country was and how crazy the everyday lives of a shinobi living here were.

When the clock reached the one minute mark prior to the exam starting, the examiner from their position at the entrance of the Academy would nod and proceed to head towards the training grounds wearing a blue overcoat with yellow buttons and cuff links along with shorts and blue shoes to match the overcoat. This individual needed no introductions if one was well informed of the family background of the Byakko Clan or had encountered or worked with them while they were on patrol. Unlike most members of the Byakko Clan, this individual did not care if one was killed when working nor that they had a colder heart than almost everyone else in the world. This Byakko had the same upbringing as Byakko Yanjirou, the brother, and while they were both in the ANBU branch and making names for themselves in their own ways, they were vastly different in how they handled situations and went about their days. Even though, they were twins and grew up so close, they both had taken different paths to become the individuals that they were today which was not the same path that their parents took.

As the individual made their presence in the training grounds, it was quite possibly that the examinee could feel a cold chill in the air or a rushing sensation of fear. It was only after taking a position opposite of this boy that the daughter of Byakko Kyuji and Lady Yanshi would address the child in front of her. Her eyes glowing a orangish-red as she spoke: "Welcome to your Graduation Exam, Domen Nobu. I am Byakko Kyushiko, the daughter of Byakko Yanshi and Kyuji. You have come far in the Academy at a rapid pace and you look more than qualified to become a shinobi of our village, but before you can do that, I need to play with you a little bit as you are nothing more than prey to me that must be tested to see if you should live. If you manage to survive my examination, you will become a Genin and can continue living. But if you do not survive my exam, you will be sent back to your family in a body-bag with what remains of you. Do you understand and accept this? You have one chance to turn around and leave if you do not think you are up for the challenge without any consequences. If you stay, I take no responsibility for what happens to you." As she finished, she would fold her arms across her chest staring into the very soul of the boy and waiting for his response. This member of the Byakko Clan was certainly different than her mother and Nobu would need to be at his best or he could be lying on the ground bleeding and begging for his very life if he was not careful. The choice was truly his, but hopefully, he would make his choice based on logic and not overconfidence or ego.

Nobu's eyes narrowed when a stranger appeared at the training grounds. Another Byakko, going by the ears. Just looking at the newcomer sent a shiver down his spine. Facing this stranger was nothing like being near the Kazekage and that strange mercenary when they were about to go at it, but this was a while different kind of consternation he was faced with. For just a second he felt like a mouse being stared down by a cat. Was he going to be dinner, just the next on the list, or was he to be played around with and then left behind with nothing but a harsh memory to carry him into the future?

Play, then, if the woman's words were to be believed. Talk of death and survival... In the end Nobu could not claim to be entirely surprised when the woman told him that death was a very real risk in his exam. Even if he was just an Academy Student, children in Sunagakure weren't pampered. He was expected to become a shinobi, a warrior, a killer for the village, willing to sacrifice everything - his life, his soul, his humanity - for the sake of the mission. There was no reason, no time, to wait until he was an adult. Trial by fire was the name of the game, and the only way to make sure that even Genin were already accustomed to the threat of death.

But the expression on Nobu's face wasn't one of fright or hesitation. Instead, a wide grin decorated his youthful face, though there was a slightly wild look in his eyes. Even a prey animal could become vicious when cornered. All this talk about challenges and death made his blood boil. "You Byakko sure love to talk. That's a lot of words for 'leave or take the risk'." Nobu replied, though it was fairly obvious that this attitude stemmed from youthful bravado as much as his actual crude personality. The little rebel without a cause wasn't so easily scared into submission, making the response a sort of message. A message that Nobu wasn't going to be scared with words or such intimidation.

"You think I'm going to run away with my tail between my legs after years in the Academy? I hope you weren't banking on that, because I came here to get tested, not to talk." he replied, continuing the facade of bluster... Even if his voice did crack while talking.

Opposite of the young Genin hopeful, Lady Kyushiko would simply bring a hand to her mouth as she began to giggle in front of this white-haired boy. He was definitely an interesting individual to put it mildly as he was trying ever so hard to keep up this facade that he was not scared being in the presence of one of the members of the Byakko Clan, a well-known clan that worshiped the celestial being known as the great white tiger that went by Lord Byakko. However while he could try to play a tough guy and try to keep his composure, it was obvious from the way that his body made the little movements and from his voice cranking that he was nervous and scared. It was understandable being in the presence of Lady Yanshi and Lord Kyuji's daughter as she gave off an aura around her that easily could be classified as dread with a slight hint of murderous intent in it, quite possibly from her upbringing in her clan or joining the ranks of the ANBU.

In any case, he had decided to stand his ground and not turn around from the danger that was clearly in front of him. He was a fool, a brave fool, but a fool nonetheless that would be likely hunching over on the ground gasping for his breath as he was bleeding out and coughing profusely from his injuries soon. Unfortunately for him, his examiner was not someone who went particularly easy on anyone and would not hesitate to eliminate someone who posed a threat or was too weak to the village. Hopefully for his sake, he had come prepared for a full-fledged battle with only one person likely walking away from this standing while the other would need to be rushed to the Hospital for their injuries. Then again, he didn't necessarily have to kill or severally wound her to likely walk away from this with the promotion that he so desperately wanted, but only time would truly tell.

Regardless of what thoughts or feelings that Lady Kyushiko felt towards the boy and the task assigned to her, she had to complete this to her best ability and see if Domen Nobu was truly ready for Geninhood or if he would be shipped back home to his family in a body bag dead. Due to this, she would remove her hand from her mouth as she stopped giggling and put the other one to her side where a beautiful, elegant katana surrounded in a dark aura would appear and her eyes would begin to glow as she took her stance against her opponent. Tilting her head to the one side, her curled smile would return as she addressed him once more: "Very well, Domen Nobu. Since you have not turned around and ran away like many of your fellow students have done in the past, let's begin our playtime together. Get yourself ready for combat and come at me when you are prepared unless you truly want to play a game of cat and mouse with me because you are afraid of my womanly charm or simply afraid of dying. Muwahahahahaha!"

Nobu blinked as the conversation's atmosphere seemed to shift radically. Of all the responses he expected, genuine giggles hadn't been one of them. While the response did break the tension, it didn't do much to put Nobu at ease. She had been entirely serious right before his answer, after all, which meant that she was indeed planning to either knock Nobu into the hospital or to just murder him in cold blood. His wary eye didn't leave the giggling woman. Though the noise had thrown a spanner into the atmosphere of danger, Nobu still wasn't sure why she was laughing. Was she just making fun of his bravado, or did she sincerely enjoy his refusal to back down despite her threats. Or maybe he'd just said something funny without realizing.

If Kyushiko looked closely, she'd probably see that Nobu had come well-prepared. Flak jacket, several vials of poison, a shuriken holster on his leg, and a the hilt of his weapon poking out around his side. When he'd left his house that morning, Nobu had been considering bringing far more on his exam. He had forced himself to drop a lot of his equipment off in his room, otherwise he would've arrived to the exam completely over-encumbered and impeded by his own urge to come over-prepared. A shinobi had to learn how to work with the limited supplies he brought on his mission.

"Come at you?" Nobu asked, sort of confused. The boy had been expecting a little more pomp and fanfare than just a fight. "Like... right now? Right here?" he added, still not entirely sure. The mention of her 'womanly charm' was also throwing him off. She was pretty, sure... But did she think he'd get that distracted by it? Nobu took a deep breath. Her words had been clear. For a moment, he closed his eyes and mentally gathered himself up. No fear, no excitement, no nervousness. There was only him and the enemy. The world at large, his purpose, his identity - all were moot. He was a vessel of violence, a bringer of the vengeance of the sand, a ghost of the First Men.

When Nobu opened his eyes, his hands moved in a blur, forming several seals in quick succession. No great ball of fire or flash of bright lightning followed. Instead, spots of darkness would fill Kyushiko's vision. Hoping to catch Kyushiko while she was working through the visual genjutsu, Nobu's hands moved again as the illusion took hold. An air bullet burst forth from his hands as he extended them outwards towards Kyushiko, which would strike with impressive force for a genin's doing.

Standing there with her katana grasped in her merciless hands, the young woman from the Byakko Clan simply could not stop smiling as she evaluated her prey from top to bottom trying to pinpoint the weak point(s) on the child in front of her. Oh, she heard him speak to her appearing to be flabbergasted by her sudden shift in personality and possibly confused by her comments to come right at her since he likely assumed there would be more to his exam than a simple brawl, but one had to remember that every shinobi was different in their own ways of actions and thoughts. In the case of Lady Kyushiko, she simply did not care about his comments as she was fixated on doing one thing in particular to this Genin hopeful which was testing him until she either broke him or killed him, whichever came first, in her own sinister ways. If this young Domen would have had her mother or "father", his examination would have likely been completely different. Unfortunately for him, he had been graced with having this "crazy" young lady as his examiner who very easily could dismantle him limb by limb if she wanted to do so or keep him alive to simply torture him until she grew bored of him as her current plaything.

Luckily for the student's examiner, the boy would not hesitate too long to begin to engage her in combat as hand-seals would begin to fly in front of her until her vision became impaired likely from an illusionary technique. However if the boy was watching close enough, he would see that this mere trickery did not even cause his opponent to flinch at all as she simply stood their stationary and waited to see what would come next. Within a few moments, a strong burst of air smacked into the chest of the Byakko which would have knocked many inexperienced shinobi off their feet due to the force behind it. Unfortunately for the examinee, his opponent simply shrugged it off as she formed a handseal that would eliminate the nuisance that he was trying to cause by blinding her. As her eyes readjusted, she would look simply at her opponent and say: "Please tell me that you have more than those pathetic techniques at your arsenal. If you are going to screw off, you will not be in this realm for much longer so take this seriously, Nobu!"

As soon as she finished speaking, she would form another one-handed handseal which would try to plague the mind of the boy causing him to see six copies of his opponent with one of them obviously being the real Kyushiko. Regardless of being successful or not, the young lass of the Byakko Clan would take an unique stance much like her "father" had been doing in the tournament before dashing at her opponent and striking at her opponent approximately fifteen or so times within a matter of seconds. If she managed to even land a few of these blows, it would be likely that young Nobu would collapse to the ground in front of her due to being knocked out or at the very least, he would be filled with many wound openings from the blade contacting with skin causing him to bleed out quite badly. Of course, there was always the chance that a miracle could happen and this student managed to evade the strikes from her blade, but the probability of that truly happening was slim at best.
