“Okay, where can that damn priest be?”
It wasn’t long after her second encounter with the supernatural that Suika embarked on a quest to find Shukuya. He was the devout man that saved her from a demon in the Ancient Forest and, strangely, was very knowledgeable about the realm of spirits. She didn’t want answers then, but she needed them now. The dilemma she faced was that she had no clue where to start looking. He didn’t leave her contact information or an idea of his whereabouts – she had to start from scratch. Maybe a temple? He was part of clergy, after all. “But there are so many…” she sighed.
She made her way through town to the largest holy place located in the village. It was one that commemorated the thunder god, Raiden. She wasn’t sure how many people actually believed in him in the village, but the temple drew in tourists everywhere. It practically operated as a public attraction as opposed to a place of worship. Regardless, there was a small chance he could be there, so she placed her bets and went to pay it a visit. Along the way, she spotted from the corner of her eyes a worn-down box. Penciled on the front of the box read ‘Free Kittens. Plz take.’
…Kittens?
Suika rushed and peeked her head into the box. There were four kittens inside – three of them were white and the last, who looked the runt of the litter, was black. Her eyes sparkled with adoration. “Such cutey kitties, yes you are!” she cooed as she reached the pet the black one. He scratched her hand. “Oiii so feisty!” She melted. The kunoichi wasn't one to be mushy, but baby animals were one of her weaknesses. She could not help falling into a trance. “I'm going to take all of you!” she shrieked as she reached around the box. She then paused. Shukuya. She had to focus. “Sorry, kittens, but I have an important matter to deal with." She walked away with a saddened expression.
'Ca-caw!'
Out of no where, a giant hawk, probably bigger than she's ever seen, swooped down and snatched the box of kittens. It flew away speedily. Suika gasped. She instinctively wanted to take it down, but she knew the kittens would be in danger from an elevated drop if she did. “You!” she shot at any stranger or known ally that would happen to pass by. “Come with me. We need to save those furballs.” And she dashed off. She stalked the hawk's flight as it head to the mountains. Those baby cats had to be saved!
