Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

It had been well over a week since he had given Ryo access to contacting him via his personal communication line. During that time, there had not been a single peep coming forth from it. It wasn't like he expected much different, or that he was even upset that his son had not contacted him. He was, however, concerned. Not that anything had happened to the child but that the child was not fully ready yet. He was still within the academy, so maybe that should have been expected, but that is not the expectations he wished to hold for the boy. Not towards the boy that said he would rise higher than him, but it would seem that there was currently a limit, a wall, before the boy. He had to find a way to break it.

And that is why he sat upon the couch now, waiting. Waiting for his son to return to his home, yes he always viewed this as a home for Ryo and less as his own home. His home was out there in the field. But it was convenient, because it gave him an opportunity to catch the child without needing to try. So he would wait until he heard the door open. Upon hearing that sound, he would immediately stand up and turn towards the location of the door and wait some more, this time awaiting the appearance of Ryo. Once Ryo appeared before him, his eyes would narrow upon the figure of the child and he would simply state:

"It's time for some homework, Ryo."

It hadn't been the worst day of school Ryo had ever had. It wasn't pleasant by any stretch of the imagination but he'd picked up a few things at least. He'd learned enough about fire style to do the basics reliably and he was starting to catch up to the rest of the class in terms of taijutsu. The irony of being beat less in fights was that he could only do it if he trained really hard. Therefore the bandages on him were just as plentiful as they had been before. He wanted to get to the house, lay down and relax. Maybe fall asleep early for once.

He reached the front door and unlocked it, stepping inside as he kept his eyes towards the floor. He was so tired. Maybe that nap really wouldn't be a bad idea. However in the space of him blinking he suddenly realized he was looking down at a pair of shoed feet. He blinked once, then twice before he raised his head just as he heard those five horrifying words.

"It's time for some homework, Ryo."

There was a solid two seconds as Ryo slowly recognized his father before it all snapped to him at once. He immediately felt motivated to get right out of there as soon as possible, showing the reserves of energy he really had left as he ran out the door the other way. Not only had the old man decided to make his entrance creepy but Ryo didn't want to do homework! He was tired and he'd just gotten home but Roku looked uncharacteristically determined.

"NO! I don't wanna!"

He would let out a sigh at the response of the boy. It would seem that this child, his child, was still very much that; a child. It would require a little bit more tact and skill to get the boy to listen to him. The only problem with that is that he would not have a whole lot of time to do such a thing as the boy did not waste any time in turning tail and running away. That was a rather disappointing sight to see for a multitude of reasons. Was this not the same child who said he would be better than him? Now running away when an opportunity presents itself.

"Leave and you will never surpass me... quitter."

He did not need to chase after the boy, nor did he plan on giving chase. This was not for his benefit, this was not him needing something from Ryo. This was him coming to offer the boy an opportunity to grow. If the decision of the child was to run away from this opportunity, then that was his choice. It would be a disappointing choice but it would be one that he would accept. When he was younger he was allowed the ability to make his own choices, both right and wrong, and he believed that opportunity made him who he was today. He wanted to give Ryo the same chances to develop that he did. It would not dawn on him that such a hands-off approach might not be the most suitable for this child, a child that was seemingly not him in many ways currently. But this realization would not set in, or if it did he would not heed it. This was what he knew, he did not know how to parent. He knew how to teach and train and he knew what worked for him. Sometimes, right or wrong, parents only have their own personal experiences as a framework for how to raise a child. There was no cure-all, this is the only way to do it system in place, so the parent had to do what was natural. This was the nature of Roku.

Would Ryo stick around at the clear attempt to provoke him into stay or would he flee? Either way, the choice was his and his alone.

Ryo was a spry child but not fast enough to outrun those words. He stopped in his tracks, tensing up as an entirely different impulse came over him. He quickly turned around and charged at his father, a fire burning his eyes as he came back over only to start laying into Roku's chest. Of course not only was the older shinobi tough but Ryo was barely trained and... eight. He probably couldn't even make him wince from a hit.

"Shut up! I'm not going to quit until I'm better than you, old man! Not like it'll take much to be better than you!"

It didn't take long for him to tire himself out. He already didn't have much energy to begin with and being mad only gave him so much of a boost. Despite just getting done hitting him he had the nerve to lean up on his father for support after, panting for a few moment before he continued to grumble about the situation.

"Besides. You told me you were bad at homework too..."

"Not wrong... I was terrible at your age."

Not just in ability but in attitude. It wasn't like he didn't realize that there was some of him in this boy, that much was obvious. What made it hard to fully grasp is that the difference between who he was then and who he is now is astronomical. He was essentially a new person, thrice over, so while he understood traits in Ryo that matched him at the time, it was still foreign to fully place himself in the boy's shoes. The boy's circumstances were also slightly different. Either way, that sort of thing was neither here nor there. He was here for a purpose.

He would look down at his gassed child. After wailing and wailing, the amount of damage that he would have accumulated would have paled to how much damage Ryo probably did to himself, especially upon his hands, in his efforts. The boy would then collapse head first on his chest. His flesh arm would rise and beginning to react automatically, attempting to embrace the boy, but would come to a jarring stop before finally lowering again. He knew it might not have been pushed aside, but he wasn't certain if he could stomach this gesture being rejected. He wasn't sure if that was Ryo wanted. The boy ran hot and cold every other minute. He varied between being upset at his father for not being around while equally upset when he was around. It was a hard moment to fully understand.

"Ryo. How are you with taijutsu?"

This question would break the momentary silence that had been created. It was time to get to the heart of the matter, after all.

There was still no proper way for Ryo to process what he felt when his father casually put himself down. It wasn't the first time he'd admitted to weakness. The boy had been attempting to use those words as ammunition but his father had simply taken them as casual fact and moved on. It was frustrating for the old bastard to act like it wasn't a big deal that he was weak. Weren't strong guys suppose to put on some kind of act and try to keep their pride? Not like he had any of that. But if it was him being honest. Well, better for him to tell the truth rather than try to make him cooler than he actually was. Why couldn't his old man just make it easy to be mad at him?

There was a moment of silence as Ryo thought about how to best respond but before he could catch his breathe after he'd gone and winded himself, Roku asked him about his taijutsu. Immediately the boy went red in the ears. His taijutsu, according to his senseis, was sloppy and rough. He could overpower some other students if he was bigger than them but anyone who knew how to fight could trip him up easily. It didn't help that this was a problem he had to deal with outside of class too. He'd been beaten up more times then he cared to ever admit.

"Taijutsu is stupid..." he mumbled, finally pulling away from his father as he crossed his arms and glowered off to the side. Of course he wanted to learn how to fight but he wasn't about to let his old man be the one who helped. Except it was something he'd thought about since he'd been given the communicator. Roku was probably a joke of a ninja but he was still probably better than him.

"But I guess I could use some help with it."
