Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Ryuichi stepped through the mostly empty academy, his hard boots clapping as they hit the hard floor. Going through the halls was an almost haunting sound to some. A repetitive, echoing tap that seems to scratch the inside of the ear. It was very much the same feeling that some forms of torture exploit like the water droplet torture technique. This involves dripping water onto the forehead of a victim for days on end, making them slowly go crazy Such methods of interrogation and destruction of will used to be extremely commonplace among the entirety of the ninja world, and are sometimes still employed. However, this has been replaced by a much more terrifying ability that any ninja can possess with the right training.

Genjutsu. Altering the senses to have illusions become the unfortunate victim's reality. It was a tool just like a blade, or a paper bomb, and extremely flexible in battle situations. Learning the secrets of genjutsu was why Ryuichi was currently here. He issued a request for a lesson on genjutsu for any willing main branch member to take, and sure enough he had gotten word that it was accepted.

The teen halted in front of a door in the hallway, bringing the clicking of his shoes to a halt. "Yup, this is it." he said, looking at the room number. He opened the door to see a single individual in the middle of a room filled with stone. This room was most likely used for survival, or environmental combat practice. This led Ryuichi to wonder why a genjutsu lesson would take place in such a room. Something about this seemed...off. An itch on the back of Ryuichi's head told him something interesting was about to unfold here.

Ryuichi decided he spent enough time looking around the room, and raised a hand. "Yo. I'm Ocha, just like the request said." He stated, using the same alias that he used on the request. "Just tell me what to do and I'll do it to the best of my ability."

Suika was typically preoccupied working under the Sennin or embarking on missions within the Main Branch, but the village was currently short on Genjutsu tutors. The illusory arts were not as popular as Ninjutsu or Taijutsu, plain and simple. Genjutsu was viewed as supplementary to assist the higher damaging arts. For those who did invest themselves primarily to the craft, their services were need for very particular assignments. Suika was among them, but not today. Going through a pile of scrolls in her inbox, a tutor for a Genin named Ocha caught her eye. The Chuunin clenched the scroll as a grin erupted from her lips; it was time to pay a visit to the Academy.

Once she arrived at the Academy, Suika checked into an annex of her choosing. The room was purposed for battle simulations, which would be needed for what she had in mind today. With her lesson set, she casually waited for her student to arrive. It wasn’t long until she was greeted by a silver-haired teen who appeared around her age. Resting on her hip, she gestured out her hand with a quick, friendly welcome. “Hey, Ocha, I’m Main Branch Chuunin, Suika.” The girl then pointed her thumb to herself and smiled competitively. “Your task today is simple: you are to land a single, physical strike on me. If you’re able to hit me, then you’ve successfully completed this tutor.” Suika then slid into a defensive stance. Eyeing the teen carefully, she offered her final piece of advice. “Just be wary, Ocha-kun, that not everything is as it seems. Rely on your senses, but do not trust them too much.”

With that, the kunoichi prepared herself for an attack. Ninjutsu, genjutsu, or taijutsu, she was ready to evade whatever he tossed her way. Plus, she had a few tricks up her sleeve. “Let’s see how this Genin will fare,” she mused in slight curiosity.

Ryuichi heard the orders given to him, and responded with a nod. Something deep in Ryuichi's gut already gave him the feeling he knew what was going on here. Not many people would start off with physical training in a situation that called for genjutsu training such as this. This led to three possibilities. The first being he was already under genjutsu since he stepped foot into the room. That would explain the itching feeling on the back of his head, and the appearance of this being a more physical training in an attempt to confuse him. The second possibility was the chance this wasn't the real girl, Suika. It could possibly be a much more powerful ninja under transformation, or one of Suika's clones. The third....she just misread the application.

However, of the three ideas in Ryuichi's head the first seemed the most likely. He let his eyes turn a crimson red, black tomoe circling his pupil. "Sharingan!" He said, as the colors around him became perfectly clear. Nothing seemed off just yet....

Ryuichi pulled out a small summoning scroll and unrolled it, slapping his hand to it with the word "Release!" As smoke flew out of the scroll along with a wooden training sword. No edges, no cuts. With this, Ryuichi shot forward, holding the wooden weapon with both hands. "Kenjutsu: Sword Juggle!" He shouted, throwing his sword straight into the air. It spun once, and Ryuichi grabbed it, slashing. Miss. He quickly used the momentum to throw it behind Suika, using his chakra-enhanced speed in order to grab it again, slashing...miss. This process repeated three more times before his technique ended.

This was so strange. It didn't....look like she was moving that fast, but not a single bruise was shown. His assumption was correct...this had to be genjutsu, the entire reason he had called for her. Of course, now that he could understand that he was under it's effects he needed to find out exactly what it was doing. Figuring that out would allow him to use his sharingan to return the genjutsu back to the mentor, allowing for a clean and easy win. Ryuichi grinned, catching his breath. "Looks like you're either really fast, or just really good at making it seem that way." He stated, preparing for another round.

The showdown had begun, and Suika was ready to teach this young man a thing or two. As she entered a combative stance, Ocha was quick to activate his doujutsu both verbally and physically. Sharingan, eh? The Uchiha, she once read, were a popular clan in Leaf Village that possessed elite visual prowess. Among their skills was the ability to cast Genjutsu via eye contact and, possibly, reverse an illusion right back at their foe. It was an intriguing bloodline, so the Chuunin was excited to see it first-hand today.

The boy summoned a wooden sword and initiated his offensive assault. The "Suika" he saw didn’t move much, but it appeared as if none of his attacks hit. “Yanno, it’s not very effective to call out your attacks to your enemy, Ocha-kun,” she commented with an informative, yet playful tone. With every swing of his blade, Suika knew he was tiring out. When would he realize that this was all just a simple trick?

“Maybe I’m both really fast AND making it seem that way, Ocha-chan.” The girl changed the honorific of his name; it not only had a better ring, but it made her teasing more enjoyable. “Did you drink before this, Ocha-chan? You look a bit inebriated.” After that specific cue, Ryuichi would feel himself as if he had drunk several rounds of strong liquor. He kept control of his movements, but his mind would feel somewhat impaired. Suika continued as her tone grew more serious.

“Focus, Ocha-chan,” she suggested as she effortlessly dodged his attacks, “something’s off. You can tell, right? Use your eyes to recognize any disruptions in your own chakra flow, then focus on manipulating it in your favor.” The kunoichi had given him huge clues to succeed in this exercise, but she would leave the rest to him. It wouldn’t be proper training if she handed him the victory, right? Meanwhile, from afar, the real Suika curiously observed her clone tango with Ocha. What will he do next?

[OOC: Ryuichi, if you so choose, will now be able to recognize he is under Clone genjutsu if he follows Suika's instructions successfully. It is clear he is under another genjutsu, but he will not yet be able to recognize it. Also, the real Suika will not be hit this round. Anything else is free game and all attempts shall be reasonably respected!]

Ryuichi shifted his grip on the wooden katana and glanced around at a speed usually impossible for the naked eye to process. Finishing with his eyes locking with the fake Suika. "Ya know it could be cool....maybe even helpful too." He said, preparing himself. Then, he was hit with a wave of slowness, and dizziness. He took a step forward to find his entire body following...towards the ground. He quickly responded with his other foot before he could fall, but there was no way to hide this was screwing with him.

"Focus...." He whispered, looking over the area once more. His rapid glancing was then stopped when he saw something. His own shadow. Directly above Ryuichi was a light fixture that was protected by metal bars, and some kind of durable glass substitute. Below Ryuichi stood his shadow, just as clumsily holding themself as he was, but Suika....had no shadow. Or footprints around her. Or any sign of the terrain having been affected by her existence. Ryuichi got it. He closed his eyes for a second, focusing his chakra into them, before opening them quickly to let the tomoe within his eye spin.

What he could see was a single strand of hair several feet in a direction that was completely unrecognizable to Ryuichi due to his pseudo-drunken state. All he knew what the girl was that way. He took this as a chance to let his tomoe spin once more, visualizing the disturbance within his own eyes that caused him to see the fake suika. In moments the illusory girl evaporated in seconds, and if he was looking in Suika's direction there was a chance she would experience the same ocular illusion.

Now he had to find out what was wrong with his shambling, sick body right now. If he could just. Think. Straight. He dropped the wooden katana, and pulled a kunai from a belt on his side and used the but end to ram into his stomach with enough force to cause him to lose his lunch all over the fake rock ground. This gave him a few seconds for his mind to clear up before those side effects would make themselves known again. Ryuichi had to think fast.

Slanting her face, Suika watched as the silver-haired Genin puked his guts out. She almost felt bad; did she go too far? “No pain, no gain,” she justified as she mentally noted to call maintenance after their exercise. As the boy struggled to stay on his feet, the kunoichi noticed him observe his surroundings. He appeared dazed, but the girl saw a peculiar sparkle in his Sharingan eye. He saw through her illusion. “Good,” she complimented. Suddenly, she felt a strange stinging sensation almost penetrate through her mental barriers, but she was able to shake it off. Did he attempt to reverse her Genjutsu? It was a close call, but the Chuunin was able to avoid his counter.

Acrobatically twirling from behind the cover of rocks and directly in front of him, the bronze skinned shinobi entered a defensive stance. “You saw through my clone Genjutsu – nice work, Ocha-chan,” she exhorted with a quick wink. Although he was successful in dispelling her first illusion, he seemed heavily affected by her last. “I’d tag you with another genjutsu normally, but it seems you’re having trouble keeping your lunch in. Good luck even trying to brush me with that branch of yours.”

Suika wasn’t the type to discourage or mock her fellow shinobi, but she believed that there was nothing wrong with a little bit of competitive teasing. She wanted to push the Genin in accomplishing the potential she sensed he had. She wouldn’t go easy on him, but she allowed her guard to lessen more than she normally did.

“Show me what you can do, Uchiha,” she challenged with an anticipatory grin. Would he impress her, or would the Genin flop under pressure? She had a hunch on how this spar would proceed.

Ryuichi threw his kunai to the ground, not speaking. He was gonna feel dizzy again if he didn't act fast. 'Think ya doofus.' he thought to himself. 'this genjutsu is affecting my equilibrium, and to a lesser extent my vision. if I can work on figuring out everything that's being affected I can without a doubt clear this.' With that he picked up his wooden sword, and grinned. He was getting noticeably dizzy again, but that didn't phase him. "Nah, I wouldn't consider myself an Uchiha." He said, taking a deep breath. His tomoe began to spin as he looked at Suika's chakra within her, focuing entirely on that.

He ran forward as if he was never under the effects of the genjutsu, only to feint a fall, dropping the wooden tool on the ground once more. His foot slid, and his entire body flew forward threw the air in an almost comedic way. This was however a fake out from Ryuichi, flashing six hand seals. 'She obviously knows I can use genjutsu with just a glance. This will catch her off guard, though.'

"I just have my mother's eyes! Shakuton (scorch style): Eternal burning of a thousan-" He cut himself off once he was finished flashing the hand seals, his eye tomoe spun to show anyone with a quick mind that those hand seals did nothing. He fell on the floor hard, holding his mouth as if he was sick. To avoid any kind of counter attack he preemptively body switched with a log, appearing a few feet away and wiping his mouth, hiding a grin. He shuffled a bit in place, and started going through different handseals than before. "One more try. Shakuton: Dragon's invisible heat!" And attempted to invade Suika's chakra system a second time.

Of course Ryuichi didn't know about any kind of mental barriers placed, or any natural resistances to genjutsu but this was a good method for stalling until he could get his own genjutsu out of his system. 'if that first one worked, I won't need to redirect this drunk-jutsu...a genjutsu specialist has to know this jutsu. If not, this got a whole lot harder.'
Using the Uchiha genjutsu "hypnotic suggestion" to attempt to have Suika use the cancel jutsu on Ryuichi. The second genjutsu was image-blur. He did this while unaware of any kind of mental barriers, so wether or not they work is up to you!

Ocha, who increasingly grew resistant to her Genjutsu, had finally taken it up a notch. As he clarified the origin of his ocular abilities, Suika nodded assuredly in response. “Fair enough,” she commented as she prepared herself for his supposed fire jutsu. He wove together seals; did his intoxication impair him that much to use a Ninjutsu point blank? Suddenly, the Genin revealed his feint as the tomoe in his eyes spun. Hopping back, Suika quickly assessed the teen’s attempt. “Did he attempt to ensnare me in an illusion after he faked a ninjutsu?” That tactic would work on most, but Suika, at this point, had a mastery over the illusory arts. He needed a lot more training before he could successfully trap her in an illusion.

“Hmm…”

Suika did not attempt to counter him, but she did prepare herself for his next string of actions. It was in that moment, too, that the Chuunin mused about her teaching ability. “Am I providing him with enough to succeed?” she questioned. “Or am I making this too easy?” She had her doubts, but she was sure the sharingan-wielding boy would pull through. As the kunoichi slid into a counteracting stance, the silver-haired shinobi instantaneously switched places with a kawarimi target and appeared a few feet before her. He then fashioned a whole new set of seals. “This again…?” She muttered, blatantly calling out his bluff this time. The tomoes in his eyes repeated the same circular pattern as before; the girl sighed.

“I appreciate your zeal, Ocha-chan, I really do,” the Ghostwalker stood straight up as she momentarily let down her guard, “but at your level, you’ll never be able to hit me with a Genjutsu unless I allowed it. You have solid potential, but you’re just not there yet.” Suika’s eyes then grew colder, expectant almost. She issued her final challenge.

“So, what are you going to do?” Again, she hoped her words acted as a fuel that would ignite even the slightest of his potential. There were clear solutions here, too, in passing this exercise. Would Ocha-chan discover one in time?

Ryuichi ran his fingers through his hair for a moment when he realized his feint didn't exactly work. 'Genjutsu is entirely off the table now. Question is, will anything else work...' he thought putting his hand into a pouch hidden in his shirt. With a swift movement he threw down a small purple pill that instantly surrounded himself in smoke. Inside he blew through three handseals and a whistle sound could be heard followed by three puffs of wind.

The smoke began to envelop the area, and the trained ear could hear the mummering of the word 'release' from directions all over. Of course, Ryuichi couldn't move that fast from one side of Suika to another so fast....alone. Inside of the smoke were 3 Ryuichi clones with fire in place of sharingan in their head, signalling the fact they were fire clones. What they were doing was a little strategy Ryuichi had made while training with his sensei, Uri...'If you keep going headfirst into an enemy stronger than you, that's nothing but foolish. You deserve to die.'

Ryuichi grinned, rubbing his right eye as the smoke cleared. In his hands were...chakra threads. He was by no means a puppet user, however these strings had their uses. Pulling on them caused them to lift, being attached to pieces of rock with kunai all around the area. On the strings were slips of torn paper, all being explosive notes asside from one extremely crude one scribed with a combustive seal. "Hidden fireball trap: twenty burnings!" He stated, as his clones attempted to run towards Suika for a close range fire jutsu. If the trap was successful there was little room for the genjutsu user to move without being hit with a weak fire jutsu (infernal ember), or an explosive note.

Not to mention that with Ryuichi standing still just to hold the trap together, he never had to move an inch, meaning this drunken genjutsu would have little effect on him. He watched intently as his clones went in, all using the infernal ember jutsu in an attempt to pressure Suika. If they failed, then Ryuichi had no choice but to forcefully trigger the combustive seal, which would release a large scale heatwave in all directions. On top of that, if Suika destroyed a clone it would explode, giving him the win.

But for all he knew, Suika had switched for another clone while his own vision was also obscured by the smoke. That was also a very possible option...But if this was the real one this was nothing less than a- "Checkmate!"

Their little exercise began to heat up as Ocha formed fire clones to face the young illusionist. He refused to give up, which Suika liked, but his methods began to defeat the purpose of this tutor. Yes, the task given was just to “hit” the kunoichi, but it was primarily a genjutsu lesson. She wasn’t lying when she said he had a way to go before successfully placing her under an illusion, but there were other routes he could have taken. She didn’t have long to dwell on this; the teen soon launched his burning assault.

Suika formed a seal.

With her extra-sensory perception intact, she noticed peculiarities all around her. She was being rushed by clones, yes, but Ocha had something else up his sleeve. What was it? As soon as it appeared that a clone achieved contact with her, a visibly shocked-looking Suika melted in to the shadows. The girl disappeared and left no trace. Suddenly, a combustive seal went off and caused a string of explosions to ignite across the room. Suika, who was a bit cautious when it came to combat, watched the fireworks set off as she stood on the cieling. It was in that moment, too, that a piece of debris flew into the air and lightly brushed against her shin. She wove together a few seals.

Suika attempted to cast one of her deadliest techniques – The Reaper’s Gaze. It was physical and chakra bind genjutsu that often helped her when in a pinch. If hit, Ocha would feel his body freeze as the jutsu deactivated his sharingan, his chakra threads, and any remnant fire clones standing. He would find himself frozen and unable to use chakra. Suika twirled down from the ceiling and planted herself before him.

“You've both passed and failed, Ocha-chan,” she muttered bluntly as she released her attempted illusion. If the Genin wasn’t under her illusory spell, she’d continue as normal. The kunoichi pointed to her shin. “A piece of debris barely grazed my shin, which counts as a success for the task you were given, but you ultimately failed the main purpose of this exercise.” The Chuunin summoned two scrolls, one that was stamped “F” and the other “P”, and then handed them to the Genin. With calm eyes and a stern, yet informative tone, the girl revealed her final assessment.

“You relied solely on Ninjutsu once you figured out your illusions had no affect on me, but there were other routes you could have chosen to take. For instance,” she quickly formed the ‘Cancel’ sign, “you were aware that my genjutsu manipulated your senses to feel intoxicated, yet you didn’t once attempt to dispel the illusion. That would have made your Ninjutsu plot a lot more effective.” She then released the hand sign and held out a number two. “Instead of cancelling out the genjutsu, you could have also attempted to reverse that last one. Sure, your illusionary attacks all seemed to fail, but I momentarily let my guard down and, if done right, you might have been successful for a split second. That would have surely guaranteed a successful strike against me.”

Suika’s expression transitioned into a light grin as she shot a thumb’s up and a wink. Her lesson was over. “Nonetheless, you still passed, so feel free to turn in the ‘passed’ scroll at the front desk before you head out. The ‘failed’ scroll is for you to keep. On it, there are multiple suggestions you can use to improve your Genjutsu offense and defense. I also recommend taking on another tutor soon and training diligently on your own. The fact that you were so quickly aware of my illusions is a testament to your potential – do not take that lightly, but instead choose to grow. Tutor dismissed.”

With that, Suika waved at Ocha and prepared herself for the next lesson of the day. “Fundamentals of Taijutsu, eh?” It was then, too, that the kunoichi remembered why she didn’t teach anymore. “Oh well, I’ll reward myself with a cup or two of matcha pudding today,” she reasoned. On to the next!

The young man could only glance around through the area as Suika vanished, triggering all his explosive seals, and destroying his chakra threads. Seeing the entire arena explode with debris, the 'main branch genin' in disguise had to duck out of the way of the stray stones. Losing track of Suika, Ryuichi quickly began looking around for the illusionist, only to freeze.

He was glancing at a horrifying creature that could only be real in nightmares. He knew this. He had trained to try and suppress fear, and think logically. Why couldn't he move? He would have begun to panic if it hadn't vanished soon after, with Ryuichi's sharingan deactivating and all his clones dispersing he found himself sitting down, enjoying the period of rest from the sickening genjutsu. All he did was listento her advice, and think to himself when would have been a good chance to reverse it. Maybe when she first realized what he had set up?

Regardless, he made a note to actually learn the cancel technique. Today was a good lesson to show him that his own reversal skill didn't always give him the edge he thought he had. With this noted, he said to her "Thank you Suika-san. It was good practice. I just figured if I didn't have a way to dispel a genjutsu, or recall it to the user then I'd have to find a way to bypass the handicap. But it looks like that kind of thinking got me screwed, huh?" He said with a small laugh before walking off in the direction opposite of her. He had a lot to take in.

He turned in the scroll at the front desk, as well as inform of the damage done to the room. He went home to the teahouse in order to get a well deserved meal, now that he wasn't feeling sick.
