Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Location: Maple TownMission Name: Medevac Miyazaki Hikaru and ShishiwakamaruUnit: Medical Combat

Misson Prompt as delivered to Jounin Miyazaki Hikaru: As part of the Academy's ongoing Career Day initiative, Shishiwakamaru has been assigned to shadow you to give them an understanding of the field of interest they have expressed an desire in joining, your task is to guide them and make them familiar with the duties and obligations of the unit. Please take caution in doing so as shinobu units have requested you monitor the status of a shinobi team operating within the Maple Town district that may require emergency extraction due to the risk and nature of the assignmet being undertaken. Be on standby and ready and remember, should you encounter any problems, your duty is to the village and the student placed under your care.

Career Day was in full swing and everyone was off to to their respective assignment and locations. Some more eagerly than others, various senior Academy teachers escorted genin and students alike to their prospective senior shinobi who would have already read the prompt delivered to them and had been hand-delivered the file of the person to be shadowing them. The task was simple yet even on a crowded day like this, things were bound to go wrong.

The unit office housed within the Konoha Byoin was a simple sight, sterile and white with medical-nin in their white coats hurrying along here and there with clipboards and needles though some of the medical staff were not as keen at the idea of a new face in an already high-pressure environment.

"Lady Fifth must be losing her marbles, really, him?"

"As if that wasn't enough, now we have to babysit."
Another grumbled shaking his head at the sheer fact. No one liked a new face, you didn't know their intentions, what they wree cpable of and unless that was figured out, all of them would recieve the same dismissive treatment. There were no favorites in joining one of the village's specialized units and the younger ones would do well to remember that.

Heads turned at the sound of footsteps coming, a senior shinobi leading the prospective academy student or genin. "Come on then." He would snap at the kid gruffly as if the man had more important things to do than escorting these rookies when they could have found their ways themselves as he knocked politely on the door to the office that housed the unit members and the supervising officer before entering.

"Hikaru-san, here is the candidate that the Academy sent and one other thing, we've recieved a request from the Main Branch to monitor the status of a team operating within the Maple Town district area, it is possible they may require an extraction if things go south so the Medical Branch has been requested to be ready to deploy at a moment's notice. With that, the assistant gave a nod and a curt look towards the prospective candidate before slipping out.

OOC Mission Outline for Reference: The candidate is being shown around the combat division of the Byoin by the senior shinobi when a mayday call comes in from a two-man shinobi team in the field. When the two arrive on the scene, they realize the Leaf shinobi s who sent out the alert signal on their headset are pinned down by bandits seeking to hold them hostage for ransom. Tasked with saving the surviving members of the shinobi team, the senior shinobi and the candidate must work together to fend off the attackers and get the injured men back to the Byoin for treatment.

Hikaru sat at her desk, reviewing the file of one Nara Shishiwakamaru. The Academy director had put together a career day of sorts with help from Asuka, which meant that her division would be responsible for this student for the day- personally, she was excited to meet someone who might be interested in the Medical Branch, although a few of the Byoin staff had been dropping hints all morning that they didn’t share the sentiment.

Notably, her unit was first on call today, since A2 and A3 were both on missions at the moment. It might be difficult if something came up during the student’s visit, especially longer-distance… she wasn’t about to mobilize one of the reserve units just so their division chief could do career day, though.

Makoto, a transportation specialist and one of her unit’s more recent additions, seemed to have realized this too; they paced around the offices while Hikaru thought, eventually stopping in front of her desk. “Chief. What if everyone else has a point- if we get an emergency, we have to leave. Are we just going to send the student home early?!”

The Mednin looked up, raising her eyebrows. “No, we’ll just take him with us.” Her answer just made Makoto look more anxious. “The point of having him shadow us is so he learns valuable skills that our team uses daily anyway. It might be more difficult with someone who isn’t as confident in what they’re doing, but I think I can teach him well enough so that won’t be an issue,” she smiled. She wasn’t sure if that was really true or not, but she preferred not to stress her friend out even more. “Plus,” Hikaru added matter-of-factly, “our unit is the first one I’d choose to protect a student while performing an extraction in any case.”

A brief knock came at the door, and a shinobi entered with the student in tow. Makoto stopped pacing immediately, sliding back to their desk as the older ninja explained the request from the Main Branch. Hikaru nodded, “Thank you. We have units on call if a rescue is necessary.” With that, he took his leave, and both mednin turned their attention to the student. “Welcome to the Medical Branch!” she smiled, “I’m Hikaru, I work as the Chief of the Medical Combat Division, and this is one of my unit members, Makoto.” The younger mednin smiled as well when introduced, although it was clear they were still a little worried about having him around.

It occurred to her that they probably needed to move quickly with what they taught the student, in case they did end up getting called to Maple Town. It wasn’t every day that they had to respond to a call within the village that sounded this serious- most of their domestic work never reached far beyond injuries from Academy students playing with sharp objects and destructive elemental forces.

She decided to gauge his interest first. “So, what made you choose the Medical Combat division? If the answer is ‘your teacher’ or ‘availability’ that’s fine, I just want to know. I’m assuming you’re not very familiar with using medical jutsu or performing first aid; what do you know about our branch so far?”

Today was the day! An event he had marked on his calendar weeks prior so he had a constant reminder of things to come. Something to keep him motivated towards the future. Shishiwakamaru was going to be paired with a genuine Med-nin, a Chief no less! You could say he was excited about the entire endeavor. Waking up early, before his alarm had even went off, he was well on his way towards preparing for the day. Packing everything he thought he might need into a bag, getting dressed, putting up his hair, Shishi was ready to start the day!

A senior shinobi, one he had never met, reluctantly escorted Shishiwakamaru through the echoing halls of the Konaha Byoin. The disgruntled shinobi escorting him, coupled with the dismissive remarks whispered under breath by the staff working on shift quickly diminished the good mood he originally found himself in. Not exactly kind and welcoming here. For people that saved lives and made an actual difference, they sure had a crappy attitude. They were sure quick to judge someone they had never met or really even knew. In that moment Shishiwakamaru vowed to not let his career choice poison his mind as it obviously did these others. Thankfully their leader, Sennin Nao, did not share the same sentiments as these rude staff.

They now stood at a door, one that would lead to the one who Shishiwakamaru would be shadowing, and with a gentle knock before entering. The previously glowing smile he wore this morning had slowly faded from the whispers he heard to a now more disheartened look. But it would quickly subside as Hikaru spoke up. “Welcome to the Medical Branch!” she smiled, “I’m Hikaru, I work as the Chief of the Medical Combat Division, and this is one of my unit members, Makoto.” The chief's warm smile perked Shishi back up into a better mood, causing a bright smile to spread across his face. "Hello! I'm Shishiwakamaru." Shishi would give a low bow in respect, as he did he would continue; "I am most appreciative that your division has agreed to let me study your team today." He would rise, his smile still present as his excitement welled up in his mind once more. "I promise to listen to your instructions very carefully. I'm so very glad to meet you both." Perhaps he was a little too hype for just a career day, but this was a big deal for him.

It was then that Hikaru-sensei asked a very important question, one that would help her gauge this young Nara more clearly. “So, what made you choose the Medical Combat division? If the answer is ‘your teacher’ or ‘availability’ that’s fine, I just want to know. I’m assuming you’re not very familiar with using medical jutsu or performing first aid; what do you know about our branch so far?” Shishiwakamaru would need little time to ponder the question, it was one he had given much thought towards already. In truth it wouldn't be any one singular thing, but if he had to boil it down into a concentrated form to answer the Chief's question it would probably have to be; "Well... After the events at the village gates, a few months back, where many people lost their lives, I heard about Sennin Nao's heroic act of saving Sennin Soku's life. I want to be like that, to make a difference, or rather to be the difference between life and death, for the safety of our village. You see, ma'am, my father was one of the ones killed that night. I vowed, then, that I would do something significant with my life. And saving lives seems like the best way to accomplish that goal." A bit of a mouthful, sure, but it got the point across he felt. "As for my actual experience, I have none. At least real situations. I have studied a few books about it, but they are difficult to understand. I can do a little, sorta, but it's nothing to write home about. As for what I know about this branch, I know that it takes a lot of skill and concentration to perform your duties. Healing people is not easy, more so under fire from an enemy. But that's why I chose this sub-division. I want to be the one on the field, supporting those in our village to the best of my ability, ma'am." Like I said, he had given it a lot of thought.

MODERATION POST

The general feeling of unrest was in the air. Whenever the Medical branch was asked to supervise something or pay particular close attention to something, it usually involved a lot of bloodshed and whatnot and the results were never good especially when it meant the Medical Combat division had to be called in, that meant the situation ahd turned ugly and the fact that their unit had been asked specfically to be on standby was a fact that was on everyone's minds.

What was so damned important happening in the Maple District that it was necessary they watch it with every eye and hear with every ear they had available? One might think there was some sort of monster that had taken Konoha by force, gossips and rumors had already flew around the office about that being the case although the more seasoned veterans wisely chose not to comment on this fact knowing better than to act on the discourse.

Their eyes remained on the rookie being shown aroud by their Chief, assessing, judging and seeing if he would turn tail and run or stand firm once he got a taste of what their unit had in store for them. One or two even of them shifted a bit uncomfortably as he brought up the gates, no one was too keen to recall that memory unwilling as they were to admit it.

"Hey, easy there, kid. We don't talk about the thing." The thing, as he put it was a common moniker that had developed among the shinobi forces referring to the gate incident in which a Sennin had been brought down and left for dead and that fact in itself was enough to shake the morale of a village, most had family that had been serving on that evening, twenty-four was not a number that was small and it's impact would be felt but that didn't mean all of them were too keen on reliving it through converstation or some other alternative.

"I say, Hikaru, just give the boy some tools and let him have it at some of those weirdos in the surgery ward and if he doesn't throw up first, maybe I'll give him the time of day."

It was gruff humour, not the type that perhpas young Academy students would understand but it was a coping method, the gate topic was still a very touchy subject for most and they harbored resentment at the fact they could have not saved more lives, the Medical Branch felt the impact just as equally as the other two and old wounds were hard to heal, especially this one especialyl when it was so clsoe to home.

Still, none of them were too keen on the boy that much, sure, he harbored some interest but it all came down to one thing; he made it or didn't and that would be a waiting game, until then, nothing exciting was going to happen as the white-coated shinobi turned back to their duties whatever those might be in additon to exchanging jokes, poring over notes or arguing over recent medical theories.

They might seem non-chalant but the truth was, they had earned their place here after a whole lot of sweat and effort, that was probably why they had the right to act as they do, they had faith in their abilites and could react at a drop of a hat if given so.

Although, it seemed the chance for reaction might come sooner than later as a shinobi burst into the room, his green flak jack identifying him from the Main Branch and a rather elderly shinobi as he strode directly across to Hikaru, a scroll in his hand as he thrust it out at her expecting her to take it as he spoke. "The village has ordered all civillian traffic in to the Maple District area is now prohibited until further notice, as you are aware, we have a unit operating there but circumstances require that we take a more aggressive approach."

This caused some mutterings and a sense of unrest from everyone else there.

"Just what exactly you folks got cooking there?"

"I am not at liberty to say.

"Why? You want us to dive into the mouth of the dragon and won't give us a shred of evidence of what's going on?!"

The messenger turned to face the medic-nin, his gaze hardening as he did so. "Hikaru-san, I suggest reigning in your people, you would not be putting on a good example for the young one. You have your orders, you are to observe and do that only unless ordered otherwise by someone from our side."

As for the parchment, it containined some more sensitive information detailing the specifics of the misson the Maple Town unit was conducting, a raid and follow-up investagtion on a bandit group who had claimed to help in the attack against the gates and ordered to keep to herself, perhaps the fear was that having to relive those moments would be enough to unerve some but nevertheless, it would be up to the Chief whether she chose to partake in the liberty to share or not.

"How will we know when you need us to come riding in on our high horses, eh?"

The man paused for a moment before smiling at the jab almost gravely. "You'll know, rest assured."

The older shinobi who’d appeared at her door ushered the student inside- he certainly seemed to match his file visually. He responded with a smile of his own and introduced himself very formally, which the Medical Chief appreciated. She had been a little worried that the medbranch wasn’t the most popular among students, which might have meant they’d get someone disinterested and uncooperative, but she had a feeling it would be hard to hide either of those behind a smile that genuine. As he bowed, Hikaru gave a nod of acknowledgement; during that brief time, she stemmed the flow of Ukabu’s chakra to her eyes momentarily, scanning the surrounding area with her bloodline’s Blindsight. She hadn’t expected to sense anything concerning, and she didn’t- it was more something she was practicing. Her eyes shifted back from a faded, sightless brown to the slightly unnatural blue as she signaled her jinchuuriki spirit again.

Shishiwakamaru took his time with her next questions. So, while he was thinking, Hikaru stood and walked around to the front of her desk, motioning the other two out the door. “C’mon, let’s get started,” she smiled. “You can still answer of course- we just have cause to be especially alert, it seems, so I wanted to get you as familiar with the branch as I can in case we have to cut this short.” She, Makoto, and the student took to the halls, the lattermost beginning to explain his reasoning for choosing the branch. A few of the mednin they passed flinched as he brought up the night at the gate; she responded to their remarks, “He was as affected by it as anyone was.” She understood what they were feeling quite well. If they truly didn’t want to talk about it unless they had to, she was okay with waiting a little bit to continue the conversation with Shishiwakamaru. “Don’t kill his motivation now,” she added with a wry smile to one of the branch’s comedians, “in a few years, he could be taking a load off your shoulders.”

She led the two others into one of the Byoin’s spare rooms down the hall- this was one of the places used as a classroom, and was also where she’d been taught a good portion of what she knew about medicine. Sliding the door shut, she replied to her student, “Don’t worry too much about them. Everyone feels guilty about what happened that day.” Makoto added quietly, “I’m sorry about your father.” Hikaru nodded. “That’s a good reason for pursuing the branch, though. Good luck.”

Hallway doors suddenly bursting open was not an uncommon sound in the Byoin, but this time the Medical Chief could tell something was different. She rushed outside the room as her teammate sucked in a breath from their seat on one of the tables; a Main Branch shinobi had arrived with news, likely on the situation described to her just a few minutes ago. Hikaru accepted the scroll as she listened carefully to what he said. “Understood,” she frowned. Her branch members echoed what was racing through her mind- what could possibly be happening in such a nearby area of the village that they weren’t allowed to know about? This sounded like an ANBU mission to her… which might be the reason why the messenger deflected her colleagues’ questions, although every branch and operation had a right to its secrecy. “Ok, that’s enough,” she told the protesting mednin. “Let me read this.”

The scroll had some more pertinent information: they were being ordered to stand by for a mission raiding a bandit group with possible ties to the attack. Speak of the devil… and, on that note, why were bandits suddenly becoming much more prominent of a threat than she thought they normally were? You didn’t see run-of-the-mill thieves claiming to have aided in what resembled an act of war, nor did they usually require heavy backup to dismantle. She nodded to the senior ninja, “Orders received- we’re ready at any time.” Turning to the mednin gathered, she announced, “Increase staff in the emergency room- travel time from Maple Town, conditions and status unknown. Those in my unit, be ready to leave.”

As Hikaru relayed a code into the intercom system to communicate what she just said to the rest of the Byoin, Makoto walked over to the front of the classroom, glancing at Shishiwakamaru for a moment. They could hear everything said aloud from the open door; as the Medical Chief rallied her team from outside, the blue-haired mednin told him, “That means you too.” They formed a handseal, summoning several things onto the desk in front of them: a creme-colored cleanroom jacket bearing the insignia of the Leaf Medical Branch, a waist pouch with additional medical supplies, and identical copies of each in a smaller size. “Put these on,” Makoto motioned. “We’re going to be doing everything in our power to keep you safe, but understand that the safety of the patients comes first. Also understand that you’re going to be representing the branch as a whole- follow our orders exactly, do not do anything to endanger yourself or anyone else. I know this is the medical combat division, but you’re not going to be doing any fighting whatsoever. I’m sorry that this might not be what you signed up for…”

Hikaru reappeared in the doorway, clad in the same medical getup. She nodded in approval at her teammate’s preparation, “Good. We’re going to be leaving at a moment’s notice, as you heard. For now, though, I want to teach you your first skill in the branch, one that will help you assist in the coming extraction: triage. Triage is a classification system used to identify the severity and required treatment of a patient’s injuries, and it’s based on colors assigned to the patients- red patients require immediate care for life-threatening conditions, yellow patients are immobile and require serious attention but are not in immediate danger of death, and green patients are lowest-priority injuries that can wait to be treated until the more urgent tiers are stabilized. White means no medical care required at all, black means deceased.” She paused for a breath, making sure he didn’t have any questions so far. “Sorry that we have to rush through this a bit. Usually triage is done most effectively by a sensory-type, like myself or Makoto, and is always the first thing we do after making sure the area isn’t immediately dangerous for ourselves. You’ll be helping us out with it today- it’s just assessing a person’s injuries and marking them with a corresponding colored tag so that we can treat and transport them if necessary.”

A voice called for the Medical Chief from outside, and Hikaru disappeared back out into the hallway again. “Let’s practice.” Makoto offered. “Out of red, yellow, green, white, and black, what would you classify a shinobi with a broken arm who’s walking around the scene? What about a broken or seriously injured leg? Remember, if a patient is responsive, always ask them how they feel.”

As the scene continued to unfold before him, Shi couldn't help but become distracted by this strange feeling in the back of his mind. Something foreboding, silently roaring to life, the young boy helpless to do anything but watch in horror. It started out small, a slight tick in his right hand. Quickly turning into what felt like he was vibrating in place his vision blurred as he tried to get some depth perception into his life. But to no avail, his arms seemed to triple before his eyes, but what felt like a singular experience was actually witnessed by all those around him. It was truly as if his body was attempting to un-fuse from itself and split apart. Grimacing in pain Shi clutched his head and screamed before everything faded to black around him, leaving him in utter darkness, the silence essentially deafening...
