Airy light fell slanted from a small window above Haruka’s bed, illuminating the simple wooden table in the center of the room. The girl sat cross-legged nearby, scribbling a series of brief notes onto a piece of paper while she idly stirred a cup of water with her finger. After a few moments, she set the pen down and stretched, working the stiffness out of her neck and bandaged arm. She… realized that she had been sitting in this spot since just after she had woken up for the day, three or four hours ago… rising, the Genin set the water glass on the spotless kitchen counter nearby for later. It was still early morning, earlier than many of the shops would be open; she’d have to remember to go out for groceries at some point in the afternoon.
For now, she folded the paper and slipped it into a pageless book cover on the one-room apartment’s only bookshelf. Haruka regarded the other books for a few moments- ninjutsu and taijutsu manuals, historical novels, a dense group of fantasy stories, cookbooks. She had read all of them at one point or another.
She unlatched the door, and after a quick glance around her house that had become second nature, the girl stepped outside, pleasantly surprised at the taste of a fine mist in the morning air. Tora, the enterprising tabby that belonged to her neighbor, sat outside the door beside hers with an alert gaze. Haruka nodded to the cat, moving past him to unlock the home he guarded with a key from her pocket. He followed intently as she pushed the door open and stepped inside- his owner was away, meaning it was her job to feed him.
