Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

"Are we really going in there?" A redheaded girl pointed out the ominous sandstone building hidden beneath the layers of Sunagakure. Its reputation was known by most as a place of no return but for Kagari, it was where he checked in every day like a regular 9 to 5 job. "Yep," Kagari nodded at the girl as they made their descent down a mechanical lift. He was wearing his usual black-tail coat and mask obscuring his eyes. "The only thing you have to fear from anyone is my handler I guess." Kagari sounded confused; he wasn't sure yet what to make of Tenken. Was he his mentor? Or was he just his strict captain? "That puts me right at ease Joker." Koko huffed out a sigh, arms crossed. She looked uneasy as they got closer to the building. A person who had her profession knew they were going to a prison willingly would be considered crazy, or asking for a death wish. She knew it was a possibility she wouldn't see the light of day again. Kagari, noticing her anxiety put a hand on her shoulder, "I promise you, I will protect you. Have I let you down so far?" Kagari smiled at the girl, doing his best to ease the tension. Koko playfully shoved Kagari, shaking her head. "Not yet, but the day's not over. You did promise me that I would get the briefcase of cash, which is currently being held by you." Koko pointed out to the steel briefcase being carried by Kagari. "I told you, you will get what you're owed. This is technically evidence..." Kagari pointed out to the slightly heavy briefcase; it was filled with several stacks of a hundred yen bills; totaling around $500,000 yen. It was enough to set an average person up for a few years if you spent and invested well. "I wish we had more time to inspect the captain's body a little longer, all I was able to get out of him was this card." Kagari pulled out a blank business card that had a series of numbers printed on it. "It could be longitude and latitude, address, a phone number, or a date." Kagari slipped the card back into his coat as they got closer to their destination. "How come you didn't search the rich dick?" Koko asked, still miffed about her previous interaction with the used to be Winford Heir. "I don't know; he seemed to be the small fry in all this. It was the Captain who held all the cards." Kagari paused, sighing before speaking again. "Besides, his body had already been damaged enough that I didn't want to disgrace him even more." Koko's expression changed from confusion to understanding; she felt some pity for the man despite his betrayal. "I still hate him." Kagari chuckled a little. The lift came to a stop as the two could feel a stop as the door on the lift opened. In front of them was the familiar pathway that Kagari knew. He walked this same path when he was going to help interrogate Saburou when he volunteered himself into the ANBU, and now bringing a witness in. Although he used the title witness very sparingly, she did commit a crime.

"We're here." Kagari switched channels on the radio attached to his belt. Changing the channel to frequency 88, he spoke into his headset; "This is Joker, coming in with the suspect Koko and the scrolls in question. Requesting Tenken at Base, over."<i></i> He shut off the radio and beckoned Koko to follow. "Suspect?" She asked slightly annoyed. "You kinda did steal the scrolls from a very important clan." Kagari pointing out to the scroll container he was carrying on his back. "Well I returned them to you didn't I?" She huffed out another annoyed grunt. "If that's your excuse you are a terrible thief. Come on, we shouldn't keep him waiting." The two walked across the metal bridge, entering the large solid steel door. Inside the Prison, the sounds of wind blowing through the corridors rattling the chains echoed inside. "Don't let it get to you, it was designed on purpose to give off the creepy atmosphere. It's almost like a haunted house you go through honestly..." The two continued to venture down stairs and hallways until another solid metal door blocked their path. It was slightly smaller than the large one at the entrance, but it was still imposing. Kagari knocked three times on the door and awaited a response. "It's showtime." <i></i>

Episode 1: 'Once a Thief'| ANBU Corps Arc said:
[col]The call would be made and, of course, Roku would be on hand to receive the call. A sigh would escape his exhausted lips as he looked over to his board that held all the information on figures and people he was either targeting in his attempt to salvage the country, were questionable or had disappeared. The quagmire known as Wind Country seemed to be never ending, and the hardest working Sennin (winky face) did not get the luxury of a day off. He would pull out his folder for 'Joker' and flip through some pages until coming upon the current assignment he was working on.

Ah, the individuals that stole items, including a very interesting scroll, from the dojo and made a run for it. My curiosity was her intentions, why she stole what she did and who she was stealing them for if anyone. Through that I can determine if her connection to the current darkness in this country is connected or coincidental. Her origin being Sora, also concerning. Oh yea... Joker was the one here during my conversation with the flesh peddler. Interesting.

Pulling himself up from the desk, he would grab his metallic mask and make his way to the door. About the time of his arrival, the three knocks would ring out. Snapping his mask into place, Tenken would open the door. The figure, standing over six foot tall, would peer down with its glowing red eyes at the two before him, his ANBU and a female.

"I've been expecting you, Koko-chan. Joker, please escort her to one of the rooms."

He would not say 'interrogation' but he was sure Joker would understand what he meant. It was now time to see what all the female knew.

A few seconds passed, and the door opened. A dark figure with a metal skull mask appeared from inside; it's red eyes burning brightly in its sockets. It loomed over the duo, standing tall. Kagari was by no means short, but Tenken's figure had an intimidating presence. Tenken spoke up, his voice echoing throughout the chamber. "I've been expecting you, Koko-chan. Joker, please escort her to one of the rooms." Kagari's expression changed, he was beginning to doubt that Tenken would let Koko off easy. Kagari knew realistically that despite her willingness to come in, she still committed a crime. A crime that drew the interest of the ANBU to her, which wasn't good by any circumstance. Koko herself was silent; a neutral expression covered her face. Either she wasn't intimidated by the appearance of Tenken, or she was hiding her fears. Either way, she was good at it, not showing her emotions. Kagari nodded at Tenken's command but spoke up. "Tenken, she came here willingly and wants to cooperate. So I ask that she is treated fairly, despite her crimes." Kagari knew that it was a weak request, especially since he was a subordinate. He sighed, and bowed his head low, "Anything that she has done I will take full responsibility. What you do to her I want you to do to me."</B><i></i> Kagari lifted his head, and looked to Koko and motioned for her to follow.

The duo exited the ANBU headquarters and headed down to the interrogation rooms. Koko began to become unnerved by the sounds of wailing, chains and screams. The narrow hallways, dark light and dark stains on the walls didn't help Taking in the sights, smells and sounds, she spoke out in annoyance, "I thought you said that I wasn't a prisoner!
"You aren't. Are there chains or handcuffs around your hands?" Kagari responded, turning a corner.
"No, but I feel like soon they will be. The vibes given by your creepy master seems to imply that he's going to lock me up and throw away the key..." Koko looked visibly uneasy, as she continued to walk down the prison hallways.
Kagari stopped in his tracks and turned around to assure the thief. "What did I promise you? If you tell Tenken everything you know, you will be all right." Kagari placed a hand on her shoulder, doing his best to comfort her."You...have been telling me the truth right?"
Koko shifted, not meeting Kagari's eyes. "Mostly." Kagari sighed as he continued down the hallway and looked for an empty chamber. He opened a large metal door and gestured for Koko to walk in. "Ladies first." He joked.
Koko rolled her eyes and walked in. "Is there a light switch in this room, or am I just going to be standing here in pitch black forever?"

"About that, uh cover your eyes." Kagari shut the door and walked in the adjacent room, the observation area. He hit the switch, and bright lights came on. Koko's eyes were blinded for a few seconds, and in her clumsy movements, she hit a metal chair and table. Once her eyes got adjusted to the light, she realized she was in an interrogation room. "Ka-" She cut herself off, "Joker?"

"I'm in here, I'll be there in a sec, once Tenken comes in," Kagari spoke into a mic in the adjacent room, his voice coming over the loudspeaker. He then spoke into his headset, changing to Tenken's frequency, <B>"We're in interrogation room D. Room D."<i></i> Once he was done, he shut off the radio and sighed, leaning over the small desk in the observation room he waited for Tenken to come in and instruct further.

Episode 2: 'What's in that Head of Yours'| ANBU Corps Arc said:
[col]It was curious when Joker began to speak, and the more he spoke the more the curiosity within the ANBU captain would rise.

What an odd thing to say about a prisoner or captive. Did he already know this female beforehand, or is there something else about their relationship.

It would be about that time Roku would reflect upon some of his own youthful moments out in the field, albeit not while wearing an ANBU mask.

Ah, probably it. She isn't an unattractive female. Well, well, this really complicates things, doesn't it.

Instead of saying anything, Tenken would remain with his glowing red eyes upon Joker. Eventually the duo would leave his presence and begin to make their way towards the interrogation rooms. While they marched off, Tenken began to tap his fingers upon the side of his leg, a pretty normal fidget of his when he was thinking about something that either caused him trouble or at least caused him to think more in depth than normal. The issue of a ANBU member becoming intimate with a target, if not done as part of a long con, was something that caused some issues; this was not a profession for those with weak constitutions or who had trouble separating their job from their own personal desires, emotions or feelings. He had to handle this situation in a way that helped his ANBU understand the difference between their world and the 'normal' world.

Upon finally getting the idea he wished to use, he would make his way to the room after getting updated from Joker where they were at. Prior to making it to the room he would stop by a locked closet space, retrieve a from within it and make his way to the room. Once he entered Room D, he would drop the bag to the ground and turn his attention to Koko. The sounds that emanated from within the bag would give the impression that there were various metal objects within it, as several muffled clangs could be heard upon its impact.

"Koko-chan, I will give you a choice; you can answer my questions truthfully and I will let you leave or you can decide that the truth is difficult and you'd rather play a game with me... in which case your condition upon exiting may be less than optimal."

He would pause a moment and allow her a chance to respond. If she agreed to answer the questions he would start off with;

"Very well. Please, in complete detail, tell me every item you removed from the Toraono Dojo."

This was both a serious question and one in which he could test how truthful she was going to be with him.

If she chose to play the game instead, Tenken would let out a chuckle and approach the bag he brought in with him...

Kagari leaned on the one-way mirror, staring at the door. He was getting anxious as he waited, pacing around the room impatiently. If he was starting to get cold feet, he was sure Koko felt way worse. He turned to her, looking at her from his side of the window. She wouldn't be able to tell if someone was watching her, all she saw was her reflection. She looked bored, rhythmically tapping the metal table as she too was waiting for something to happen. Kagari sighed, the more he thought about what happened hours earlier didn't seem passable. Sure, he got the scrolls and lead, but in doing so, he endangered his position as an agent. No one was supposed to know his true identity, let alone his target. But he did it anyway, either out of sympathy or mutual attraction. Leaning on the wall, he crossed his arms. "You play the hand you're dealt..." He shook his head, perplexed by the situation he was in. Not a second later, the door opened; and in stepped the skull man. He was carrying a bag; that clanged with each step Tenken took. There was clearly metal inside, but what was really in there? Kagari straightened up and pointed to the window. "She's in the adjacent chamber like you asked." Kagari then walked over to the desk in front of them and laid out all the evidence and anything significant related to the mission.

"She had only essential possessions on her; money, ID card, and some spare kunai. Nothing related to her robbery except a meetup location sprawled on this note." Kagari showed the scrap of paper that described, "Black Bazaar, 5 PM. The Libertalia."

"Basic watering hole, burned to the ground after Leo Winford from the Noble House of Winford and his entourage decided to cross her double. He was gonna pay her with this." Kagari pointed to the metal briefcase, which he opened. "Stacks of 1000 yen equaling to Five Hundred Thousand Yen, quite a purse. I'm not sure how he was able to withdraw this amount without any attention from his family, maybe it was from someone else, a third party maybe." Kagari shut the briefcase and continued to debrief Tenken. "Regardless, Winford was intent on keeping the cash and the scrolls, so I decided we should...work together." Kagari had trouble spitting the last few words out; it was hard to admit to his superior. "We cut him off at the Palais Transfer station, took out his party one by one until it was Winford, the captain of his bodyguards and two other members. Upon isolating his party him at a hallway, he was betrayed by his bodyguards and stabbed to death." Kagari sighed as he crossed his arms, even though Winford was a prick; it was a waste of a life. "The captain and the remainder of his squad had been dealt with; I killed the leader."<i></i> Kagari then brought up the business card with a bunch of numbers on it. "I got this from the leader, though, a bunch of numbers that could mean anything. An Address, longitude, and latitude, maybe even a radio frequency. I'm not sure what to make of it."<i></i>
"Other than that, that's all I got. The Winford Lord's body is in police custody; they were on the scene a minute after the fight. We were not seen, and they probably think it was a mugging gone wrong." <i></i>

"As I've said before she's agreed to work with us and provide details about her task. So hopefully you go easy on her." Silence filled the room, and Kagari sighed again. "I guess I'll take that as an 'I'll consider it.' Lastly the scrolls are right here in a sealing container if you want to look inside. I didn't open them up so besides the Forbidden Jutsu one; I don't know what's in the other." Once Kagari was finished with his debrief, Tenken walked into the room and dropped the bag on the ground. A full ring echoed in the chamber.

"Koko-chan, I will give you a choice; you can answer my questions truthfully and I will let you leave or you can decide that the truth is difficult and you'd rather play a game with me... in which case your condition upon exiting may be less than optimal."

Koko, looking slightly bewildered now that the masked man was up close began to speak. "U-Uh, Sure. I-I'll tell you everything I know." She brought her arms down from the table; she looked uncomfortable as the red eyes of Tenken seared into her soul.

"Very well. Please, in complete detail, tell me every item you removed from the Toraono Dojo."

"I-I stole two scrolls. One I know for sure was a Forbidden Arts scroll, made by the Toraono clan. The other was like a....I think it was a family history manuscript. After that, I was supposed to meet up with the contact in Grand Palais for the trade. Besides that, I never stole anything else from that creepy place I swear." Kagari smacked his face with the palm of his hand; she just called one of the most influential houses in Sunagakure "creepy" while being interrogated for stealing from said the "creepy" clan's building.

"At least she's honest." Kagari sighed as he leaned over the desk. "What did I get myself into?"

Episode 3: 'Continuing At Your Pace'| ANBU Corps Arc said:
[col]Joker would lay out all the information he had on everything dealing with his mission and the female. He was thorough in most of the discussion but there were two things that became very clear during his debriefing; 1. she was not the top of this chain and 2. it was incredibly noticeable that the young ANBU mentioned the females involvement as little as possible. It might have just been his natural thought process, an understanding that of course she was the main focus of the debriefing, but whether it was intentional or not, just basing assumption off Joker's debrief alone it would sound like Koko had nothing or little to nothing to do with the mission he just completed. It was interesting.

Once in the room and the choices were laid out, Koko-chan very quickly accepted the deal of going the easy route. That was fine, he didn't crave blood or punishment, he didn't get any sinister thrill from it. His thrill, his victory, was getting answers. She would respond to his first set of questions and upon concluding there would be another long and drawn out pause. Tenken's frame would remain surprisingly still, as if he had turned into a statue. The signifying event the pause was over would be the large frame commander of the ANBU snapping out of its stasis and moving around the table to take a seat for him.

"Who were you commissioned by to steal these items, what was the specifics of the request originally and did they given any indications as to what they planned to do with either."

And she was right, the family was creepy.

OOC: I'll put this just in case it might get confusing.
"Kagari speaking normally."
"Kagari thinking."
"Joker, Kagari's ANBU persona speaking."

"Koko Speaking."
"Koko Thinking."

After Koko had answered Tenken's first query, the stone cold interrogator gave no response. There was a long pause; Koko was unsure if the skull man's silence was either approval or disapproval of her answers. After all, it can be hard to gauge a person's emotions if they hide behind an intimidating persona. Kagari, from the other side of the window, knew this was a common tactic of making the witness shake, to make the person think about their answers. Tenken wanted the truth, and he was going to get it either through his words or whatever lied in the brown sack. But, she is cooperating at least, she wasn't getting her fingernails pulled or beaten like the last time Kagari was part of an interrogation; so that was a plus.

After a few more seconds of silence, Tenken spoke up asking another set of questions. "Who were you commissioned by to steal these items, what was the specifics of the request originally and did they give any indications as to what they planned to do with either?" Koko twiddled her thumbs, contemplating on how she initially got the job. She finally spoke up after taking a few to think, "A friend of mine heard through the grapevine about the job, he suggested I take a look at it. There weren't many details about the job; he just talked about how these people were offering a huge reward if we do it."

"I-I was in Sora at the time, my home, and I was initially going to pass on the job, but I decided to at least go to the meeting place to hear about it. " She took a break before continuing. " Usually, I don't take jobs that have so many unknowns without a guarantee, but I didn't think I would take it."

"The thing was, I wasn't the only one who was offered the job; It was an open application. We were told to meet at a location in Sora, where we would get the details. All the reputable thieves, gangs, whoever felt like they could make an easy payday showed up. The Sand Devils, mercenaries' from Mist, every type of scum you could probably imagine." "A bald man, wearing a black suit showed up and gave the details. A few got cold feet and left, but there were still a good number of people apparently interested.

"We were to go to Sunagakure, break into the Toraono Dojo and steal The Scroll of Heaven and The Scroll of Hell. After that, a contact would meet us at this random bar in The Black Bazaar; The Mermaid. We would get paid, end of story."

"But..as I said before it was "open application." It was like a bounty. Anyone could try and steal it. You were in free to do whatever methods you wanted." Koko sighed as she crossed her arms, she needed a short break before speaking again. "The break in wasn't my effort alone. I followed one of the more professional merc groups, 'The Black Hand' when they broke into the Museum. It was early morning."

"Unfortunately, the group was overconfident in their skills; they forgot that this wasn't a candy store or a simple raid. This was a fortress, guarded by a family known for their brutality and efficiency. Guards were on them almost immediately. They didn't waste time at all; most of them were rounded up. A few tried to escape but were caught. Three others tried to fight back but were chopped to pieces almost instantly..." Koko shuddered at remembering the sight of a few foolish mercenary taking out a Trench knife when one of the family's retainers had their back turned, only to be sliced into itty bitty pieces.

"Although through some luck, a carrier ran out before the guards showed up. I tailed him, and once he rounded a blind corner, I knocked him out."

"A day later, I was at the Mermaid; waiting to get paid. At first, I thought it would be the bald git who gave the job initially, but it was this pompous noble. Leo Winford, I believe. He was flanked by bodyguards as if he was a leader of some independent country, and he was creepily hitting on me like I'm some floozy who falls for money." Koko stayed silent, realizing the nature of her chosen profession contradicted her statement. "Okay that's a lie, I do like getting paid, but I'm not about to sell my body to make a few extra yen!" She let out a huffed, slightly embarrassed at her previous proclamation to the literal steel faced man. "He laid out a steel briefcase filled with Yen that looked like it would be enough for me to retire. But as I counted, he and his posse were beginning to burn down the bar. They held me up at gunpoint, took both the briefcase and both scrolls; leaving me for dead."

"And that's where I met Ka-" Koko coughed, "That's where I met Joker." Koko finished, crossing one leg over the other, hoping that her story was satisfactory. Kagari from the observation room listened intently. He was curious at how exactly Koko did steal from the Toraono Clan. The place was a fort, guarded by loyal retainers and veteran shinobi from the clan. There was no way to get in and out with something valuable unless you were from the family. But, somehow she got lucky that there were people more foolhardy than her. "I guess there's no honor among theives..."

Episode 4: 'Deal or No Deal'| ANBU Corps Arc said:
[col]She would explain in great detail what she knew, which was interesting for various reasons and also frustrating for various reasons.

So there is no telling who really is the pulling the strings, or am I trying to read to far into it?

The connection to the Sovereign and the Daimyo did not seem to really exist within this case as it seemed right now. The merchant lords, however, might still have some influence in what was taken. It was still too much of a leap to make, and yet, he did not need to make it. The gears in his mind began to grind once more as a idea was born. It was now time to see if he could get the outcome needed to realize his idea.

"Theft of the forbidden scrolls is a high crime in and of itself, and even if I decided not to pursue punishment... I am unsure of the Toroano Clan would be as lenient. The head of the family, Kuro, seems to be in a rather foul mood lately due to slights against him, his clan and the village... in essence, the three things you theft would also have violated. I guess I could release you to that house's custody to dish out whatever punishment that group of part humans, part beast see as justified for the crime..."

There would be a brief moment for a pause.

"...or..."

Another pause would follow to build suspense.

"...or, or you could assist me with something. I could use someone with not only your skills but your luck in order to steal something for me. You complete the job, you are free and I will document one of the slain individuals from your report as the one who stole the scrolls. You refuse the job, you will release to the Toroano to handle with however they see fit, with their blood grudges and other primitive customs. I need you to decide now, and depending on your answer I will debrief you. This, unfortunately, will not be one of those instances where you can answer after hearing the job. Leap of faith or accepting your punishment... what is your choice?"

Tenken would begin to wonder just what Joker was thinking at this time. She almost slipped up and referred to him by a different name, a real name. Would he hold concern over such a small, yet noticeable, mistake? Of course, he could have went under an assumed name close to his real name, which is why Tenken did not make a big deal out of it. But he still had concerns over the relationship between the two of them.

Tenken sat silent again, processing all that Koko said in his mind. Kagari was curious about the other parties at play that were interested in the scrolls. He was curious whether the other thieves, gangs, and mercenaries were still in Sora or if some of them besides "The Black Hand" made it into Suna. It was something worth investigating. It would be bad if the rest of the groups learned that someone beat them to the punch on the heist. If they were desperate enough, they would go after a different target in Suna, trying to make up for the loss of an "easy payday" as Koko described. Kagari was curious how Leo Winford fit in the grand scheme of things. Was it because of his family standing, that they would benefit from having the scrolls and were able to sell it the various Merchant Lords and leaders all across the Wind Country? Was the Winford family the original contractor? No, Leo would still be alive if he was unless his family is ruthless in their business. Whatever the case, the Winford's were an avenue of investigation, but with Leo's body in the custody of the Suna Police Force. Considering how Kagari's recent interaction with the Haku leader went and how aloof he was, Winford's family would take offense if ninja forces started investigating their recently deceased son.

Tenken relaxed in his chair, adjusting his body slightly to get comfortable. He again stared Koko in the eye and reminded the thief of the consequences of getting caught.
"The theft of the forbidden scrolls is a high crime in and of itself, and even if I decided not to pursue punishment... I am unsure of the Toroano Clan would be as lenient. The head of the family, Kuro, seems to be in a rather foul mood lately due to slights against him, his clan and the village... in essence, the three things you theft would also have violated. I guess I could release you to that house's custody to dish out whatever punishment that group of part humans, part beast see as justified for the crime..." Tenken stayed

Koko dropped her head low, she crossed her arms and tightened her grip on her forearms. She could feel a chill at each word Tenken spoke, while she may have not directly stolen from the family, her intentions were clear enough to warrant a punishment. Kagari, on the other side of the window, knew what was coming next. He waited a few seconds and spoke out loud to no one, "But..."

"or..." Tenken spoke up again; Koko looked up to see what the metallic skull man had to say,

"Close enough," Kagari smirked.

"or...?" Koko questioned.

"...or, or you could assist me with something. I could use someone with not only your skills but your luck in order to steal something for me. You complete the job, you are free and I will document one of the slain individuals from your report as the one who stole the scrolls. You refuse the job, you will be released to the Toroano to handle with however they see fit, with their blood grudges and other primitive customs. I need you to decide now, and depending on your answer I will debrief you. This, unfortunately, will not be one of those instances where you can answer after hearing the job. Leap of faith or accepting your punishment... what is your choice?"

Koko leaned back in her chair, adjusting the small brown cap on her head. "I don't have much of a choice do I?" Koko asked, not expecting an answer. She sat up straight and looked at the bright red eyes staring at her, "I accept your job." Kagari breathed a sigh of relief; she was able to avoid the wrath of both Tenken and the crazy demon family down the road. "But, I always go by the philosophy, 'If you're good at something, never do it for free.' I expect to get paid for this...." She leaned back into her chair and murmured a few words. "At least a little something...I did come here willingly." Koko huffed out a sigh and Kagari pinched the bridge of his nose. "She's on the verge of life and death; and still! She's asking to get paid. Of course." Kagari threw his hands up in exasperation.

Episode 4: 'The Terms'| ANBU Corps Arc said:
[col]She would question him about payment to which he could only let out a chuckle, which would sound anything but human or friendly coming from his altered voice. Raising up from his seat, the figure would stand at his full height casting a long shadow down upon the female. Approaching her he would remove right hand from within his cloak. His index finger would begin to glow as he moved to press it against the flesh on her arm.

"This mark will not hurt but will ensure that our deal stays intact for the duration of the job. I would hate to have to hunt you down myself... I would be far less generous as your previous captor."

Joker went easy on her, regardless of if anything else was transpiring behind the scenes between these two. I will not be as 'fun' as him if I have to chase after her.

If she accepted the mark, he would trace his finger on her arm creating a spiral design that would glow brightly before fading out. She would not feel any physical pain or change outside of the gloved finger of the ANBU member touching her flesh. If she declined the seal things would go a bit more forcefully.

"As a down payment, you've been given a second chance on life. As a future payment, that will be determined upon completion. That said, I am a very appreciative man for those that aid in our efforts, so you will receive compensation matching your ability."

He would then step back from the woman and continue.

"Now, before I divulge the details I do want to make sure you are fully aware of the situation and that I have not tricked you; you will be doing something that could result in your death. Your actions are not an official sanction of Sunagakure no Sato nor will we claim you should get apprehended or killed."

She was from Sora, which worked perfectly.

"Because of the level of difficulty I will not be sending you alone, however, that does not mean you will not be acting alone to complete your piece of the job."

He paused for a moment as there was some interest to see what all she had to say after being sealed and told her mission might lead to her death, but what he had not told her yet was that her actions could have a far larger impact on the village and Wind Country as a hole.

Tenken chuckled at the last statement, he was amused that a criminal who was guilty was asking for some compensation. Kagari wasn't sure if Tenken would take that request seriously or ignore it completely, due to the absurdity of the current situation she was in. He stood up, looming over the girl. From Koko's view, he looked like a giant shadow emerging from the ground. He moved from his chair to her side of the table, his shadow clearly covering her. She scooted her chair back, uncomfortable from Tenken's close proximity. Koko turned her head to face the man, noticing that his index finger on his right hand began to glow red. As his finger got closer to her arm, it was leaving a mark of some kind. It didn't hurt for some reason.

This mark will not hurt but will ensure that our deal stays intact for the duration of the job. I would hate to have to hunt you down myself... I would be far less generous as your previous captor."

She huffed, "Whatever. He was a bit of a dork anyways...But a good dork." Once Tenken was done, she inspected the mark on her arm. It was a spiral of some kind, reminding her of another village that used the same insignia. It emitted the same bright light coming from Tenken's finger, but shortly faded out. The mark itself disappeared on her skin, leaving no trace. She was surprised, as she closely inspected her arm and tried rubbing it with her fingers expecting it to show.

"As a down payment, you've been given a second chance on life. As a future payment, that will be determined upon completion. That said, I am a very appreciative man for those that aid in our efforts, so you will receive compensation matching your ability."

She sighed, "I don't like it but I guess I already made my choice. So what am I doing exactly?"

"Now, before I divulge the details I do want to make sure you are fully aware of the situation and that I have not tricked you; you will be doing something that could result in your death. Your actions are not an official sanction of Sunagakure no Sato nor will we claim you should get apprehended or killed."
"Great. I guess I'm the patsy in all this. I hope you're at least giving me a lifeline..."

"Because of the level of difficulty I will not be sending you alone, however, that does not mean you will not be acting alone to complete your piece of the job."

She perked up, "So who am I going with? You? Or..." She looked up to the one-way mirror, guessing where Kagari was inside. Kagari was wondering too what exactly were the details of her mission. He paused, realizing what her mission was. "He's sending her back to Sora."

Episode 5: 'The Team'| ANBU Corps Arc said:
[col]Koko would ask if she'd have a lifeline, and if so, who would it be that was accompanying her. Tenken would turn back facing the two way mirror and motion for Joker to join them. Allowing the masked man to enter, Tenken would turn his attention back to Koko.

"Accompanying you will be two unique individuals. One is a high level Jounin of this village who has his own orders but will be supportive to the team until it is time for him to act."

He'd get to don a new mask for that part.

"The second will be a recently re-educated delinquent as part of a trial run for a program I would like to see used in the future. He is still incredibly rough around the edges, but should prove useful in this outing."

It would take a bit more time to get him completely ready, so I will need to delay our movements ever so slightly so I can finish with my 'teaching'.

"Lastly, you will need to be accompanied by a full-fledged ANBU member. Joker here, unfortunately is still an AiT, so it is a pity that he won't be able to assist you, you seemed to have an interesting partnership..."

Dramatic pause for affect.

"On that note; Joker, I hereby instate you as a full member of the ANBU rank. Your first sanctioned team mission as such will be escorting the previously mentioned group of individuals, plus Koko-chan. I will debrief you both further when the time comes. For now, to maintain the integrity of the mission I will be dismissing the both of you. In three months time we will meet at the Taisha Coastal Bar located in the Seaside Paradise. You will debrief there, be given 24 hours to logistically work out your strategy and then you will begin."

Simple enough.

"Any questions?"

Tenken would turn around, faced the two-way mirror and beckon for Kagari to join them. Kagari would nod, open the door into the interrogation room and walk in. Koko would perk her head up at the new presence in front of her, resting her head on her hand she smirked, "Enjoy the show, Joker?" Kagari shook his head in disbelief, "Even after all this you seem to make jokes, unbelievable."Kagari crossed his arms and turned towards Tenken, "What do you need me to do?"

Tenken would begin to detail Koko's task, a trial by fire.

"Accompanying you will be two unique individuals. One is a high level Jounin of this village who has his own orders but will be supportive to the team until it is time for him to act." Koko nodded, at least someone reasonable would be on the mission.

"The second will be a recently re-educated delinquent as part of a trial run for a program I would like to see used in the future. He is still incredibly rough around the edges, but should prove useful in this outing." That was a red flag, but then again it was kind of like a kettle calling a pot black. She too wasn't exactly innocent; maybe this person would hopefully in the same situation she was in.

"Lastly, you will need to be accompanied by a full-fledged ANBU member. Joker here, unfortunately is still an AiT, so it is a pity that he won't be able to assist you, you seemed to have an interesting partnership..." Tenken paused, either because he disapproved of Kagari's actions during the mission or something else entirely. The teen knew he bent the rules a bit to appease his moral code, but Tenken warned him that being an ANBU meant working in the gray side of the law. Koko herself looked a little disappointed initially; she wouldn't admit it to Kagari's face nor Tenken if she were pressed, but he was capable. He was a partner that she could trust to have her back, despite the short time they worked together. But Tenken's words surprised the both of them.

"On that note; Joker, I hereby instate you as a full member of the ANBU rank. Your first sanctioned team mission as such will be escorting the previously mentioned group of individuals, plus Koko-chan. I will debrief you both further when the time comes. You will debrief there, be given 24 hours to logistically work out your strategy and then you will begin."

Kagari's expression changed from slight disappointment to surprise to his sudden promotion. "Seriously? Just like that?" Kagari paused, thought it over and decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth. "Alright, I'll make sure to watch over them. Hopefully, I won't make the same mistakes as last time..."

"Wait, I didn't know that you were in training!" Koko leaped up from her chair and pointed her arm at Kagari, peeved that an apprentice essentially watched her.

"I couldn't tell you everything could I?" Kagari shrugged, grinning. "So, I guess you'll call us when you're ready. But when will we start the mission and where do we meet the rest of the party?" Kagari asked because he was slightly confused by some of the parameters. Were they going to meet at the Coastal bar to begin or were they going to start here in Suna?

"lastly, is she going to need a new identity? Because if this mission doesn't say start tomorrow, she's going to need a place to stay..."

Episode 6: 'See You Soon'| ANBU Corps Arc said:
[col]There would be some follow up questions from his newly promoted young member.

"I will allow you to take care of changing her identity and finding her a place to stay for the time being, she will be your responsibility. There is a pending wedding in Sora between the Daimyo's daughter and the leader of the Sound Village. The week of such event will be the time to gather at the resort. The reservation will be under the name 'Aki Kousuke'. At that table you will meet the entire team for this endeavor and be given the full detailed assignment for all your roles and the logistics of the mission."

With that, Tenken would withdraw from the room and make his way out barring any stoppage from Kagari or Koko.

"And how am I supposed to afford that-" Kagari was cut off by Tenken's quick exit from the interrogation room. It seems the brand new ANBU member had a few new responsibilities now, like finding a temporary home for a known criminal. Kagari sighed, looked over to Koko and pointed with his thumb to the door, "Ready to leave prisoner?" Kagari said with a smirk. Koko rolled her eye at Kagari's remark, "Har har, let's just get out of this suffocating room." She stormed out pretty quickly as the two of them navigated the hallways back to the entrance of the prison. The two were finally out of tight corridors and creepy atmosphere headed back to the gondola that brought them here originally. Kagari took off his mask and turned towards Koko, "Well...Despite all the death threats and possible torture; you still made it out one piece."

Koko once again rolled her eyes, "Yeah, but now I'm being held by a leash by the ANBU!" Koko exclaimed, she sighed and leaned over the railing as the gondola started to rise higher and higher towards the civilization of Suna. "Well, you did keep some parts of your promise...I'm still waiting for some kind of payment."

"That payment is probably going to go into finding you a place in Suna...I have a spot where you could go, although he might be angry about it."

"Well, I'm not staying in your place; it's super stuffy like that little cell I was in."

"interrogation room, not technically a cell."

"I was still a prisoner."

"Look I'll figure something out, for now just dye your hair a different color and I'll put an identity together...Damn, I am a spy now!" Kagari had a triumphant look on his face; he was clearly happy about his new promotion.

"For a spy, you're not very secrative. " Koko looked skeptical as she watched the teen practically glowing.

"Hey, I'm just starting out. What could go wrong?"

The two continued to go back and forth until the Gondola stopped. New paths awaited them both for them to take. For Kagari, his feet were now permanently planted into the shadows of Suna, one of its watchful guardians dealing in the darkness. For Koko, her fate was tied to Kagari whether she liked it or not. While she may have lived through this first trial, something more troubling was looming in the distance.
