Daiki looked impassively towards the object held out towards him. Memories of his previous encounters with such an object almost brought a smile to his face, even though that version of this item was a tsukumogami… and a very ill tempered one at that.
“Go downstairs. There is sufficient space to create a suitable dojo, that is once the rats are cleaned out”. Kurrope said that with a yawn as he handed Daiki the broom.
Thus so armed, along with the strange kukri he had found in the cavern in the desert on his way here, Daiki descended into the dark and dusty basement, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. As he entered the basement, the stench of rat droppings filled his nostrils, but Daiki pushed forward, determined to complete his ‘mission’.
Suddenly, a rat appeared in front of him, its beady eyes staring at him menacingly! Daiki gripped the broom tightly and swung it at the rat, but it dodged his attack and scurried away into the shadows. The young Myakashi knew that he would have to be quick and agile to catch the rats in the cramped space of the basement. He listened intently for any signs of movement and soon heard the pitter-patter of tiny feet. He followed the sound to a dark corner of the basement where a group of rats had gathered, their red eyes glowing in the darkness.
Without hesitation, Daiki lunged at the rats, swinging the broom with all his might! The rats squealed and scattered in all directions, but Daiki was relentless in his pursuit. A nasty rat bit his hand, and almost instinctively he lashed out with his empty hand. Something small and white flew from his outstretched palm, slamming into the rat who then… exploded. Ok… that was new. What jutsu was that! With no time to think about this strange event, he continued with the clearing of the basement of doooom! Fighting like a true ninja, he used his speed and agility to outmanoeuvre the rats and drive them out of the basement - probably into the next door neighbours. Oh well. Several lay dead, and Daiki knew that he should clear out the nest or else they would come back. Thus began the purging of the younglings... well, the rat younglings in any event.
After what seemed like hours of intense battle, Daiki finally emerged, covered in sweat, rat blood, and dirt but victorious. The basement was now free of rats, and Kurrope, in his strange way, was impressed by his determination and skill in clearing out the infestation.
So he was watching the whole time.
Wrapping a piece of clean, white material around the bite wound, after ensuring it was properly disinfected, Kurrope started to talk.
“So… it seems you have your fathers bloodline.”
Daiki looked up to his protector, his face suddenly awash with emotion. “What do you mean Kurrope-sama?”
Tightening the bandage and eliciting a small gasp of pain from the boy, Kurrope stopped the binding as he looked for a safety pin. “Your father never told you? He carries within him several bloodlines - that of the Nara and, what you seem to have inherited, the Toujikou. We were wondering when you might display which bloodline, or that of your mothers. I owe Yong a sake now.”
