Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Having just arrived home from his drop off at the Cavern of Ten Thousand Deaths, after his shift had ended at the gates, of course, Kosei felt that his job was still not done. In fact, the only reason he'd gone home was because his stomach was running low, and he seriously needed something to eat; if it wasn't for that, he'd have immediately gone to his superior. Downing a bowl of instant ramen, he flew out his door and wasted no time parkouring his way to the Sileo Tempestas, planning an impromptu meeting with the ANBU Sennin, Rin.

Once he'd arrived at the underground base, he composed himself. He breathed slowly, calming his nerves. He let the warm air comfort him, even though he was already a little hot from the excersize, then made his way down to the staircase. He went down the designated number of flights, until he came to the door marked for the higher-ups in ANBU. He was greeted by a somewhat nicely furnished floor, though the ANBU overtone still hung heavily in the air. The Kumogakurean ANBU logo was on the wall above the Sennin's door, and the general dull, concrete apocolypse-bunker feel was always present. It kinda felt like a second home for Kosei.

Kosei walked up to the door and gave three solid knocks, then waited for a confirmation to enter, as was the usual procedure. In the meantime, the teen cracked his neck and knuckles... a habit he really needed to stop.

A low, electric hum answered Ichita's knock. The blast door hissed and moved back, then slid aside, releasing a gust of cooler air from the Sennin's office. Rin glanced up from her work and acknowledged him with a nod. A large, marble ark sat beside her desk. One of its doors was open, revealing a stash of ancient-looking scrolls. The older woman had a few of them on her desk among the other paperwork of the moment, and was examining them with the aid of a magnifying lens.

"Well, trainee Ichita... What can I do for you?"

The two practically impenatrable door shot open, and Kosei slipped through. After a few more seconds, they retreated back to their original positions, soundproofing the room and separating himself and the Sennin from the rest of the HQ. The teen silently strode to the area in front of her desk, where people generally gave their reports or where they voiced general concerns to her. Inwardly he wondered what it must be like to be the Sennin... to manage the entire ANBU corps, to listen to reports and assign missions to units. It really must have been a tasking job.

"About a half an hour ago, I appreheded a runner. He tried to blend in with a group of people with passports who'd been let out about a minute before. For now, I handed him off to the Cavern of Ten Thousand Deaths." Kosei shifted his weight, and the belt of kunai around his waist clinked against one another. This, combined with the many summoning scrolls in his chest and waist displayed what kind of a fighter he was, an item speciallist, specifically, a puppeteer. If the sennin didn't already know that, she could probably easily figure it out now. "That's not all, though. A couple days ago, I met someone fairly important, or at least dangerous." There was a brief pause. "Inuzuka Gekido. He'd killed a group of people in the slums, but don't panick. I'm convinced, from the testimony of another ANBU and the area of the incident (in the Cronopolis), that it was in self-defense. I felt like it would be noteworthy, if things like that ever come up again with him." These two things weren't the only subjects on his mind, but they were the most important. He would ask his final question later.

"A nuke attempt? I'd thought--well. Expectations often fail." She sighed. Since Rin and Masao had come back, no one had tried to go missing from the village; in fact, nukenin had returned to beg repatriation. Some had even demanded it... And that fool at the Torre was soft-hearted enough to permit it. With children it was one thing; they had a vague notion of sin and loyalty and couldn't be said to understand the consequences of their actions. With adults, forgiveness and mercy needed to take on a different character altogether, or all you had to show for your efforts were broken creatures like Senka. Unending flights from the village were the result of a system which tried to keep shinobi as infants indefinitely, always suckling at the teat of the Raikage... With such a program in place, the only even slightly successful answer she'd seen was the cult of personality--and that had deadly flaws. "Name, rank, branch?"

Ichita's next report was more troubling, not only for its lateness, but for her ignorance of the events he described. "Days ago?" she hissed, flipping through another stack of paperwork. No, no reports here regarding the current exploits of that Inuzuka... Shit. "Why didn't you report then?" The other operatives should have reported... Had they spoken with Masao, or maybe one of the Gateru? Perhaps one of those had decided the issue wasn't important enough to tell the Sennin about. "It was your superiors' responsibility to report this... But in the future, always call in on the activities of former nukenin... Especially former ANBU nukenin." She wouldn't hold this against the kid--much. "Who did he kill? What determined that this was self-defense?" Someone like that doesn't deserve to defend himself. He should have fled. Thanks for revealing what a bloodthirsty little bastard you are, Gekido... Raijin save your wife.

"I didn't get either his name, rank, or branch, however I'm convinced that he was of at least Chuunin rank; he sent out a huge burst of chakra that knocked a 180 pound puppets a good distance away from him. I took him immediately to the Cavern, then came here, so a background check is probably just finishing up if it was started when I left. Personally... I think I should have killed him. He took a girl hostage and almost killed her, but... I don't know. I figured someone up there would get mad at me for "not giving him a chace" to prove he wouldn't, or something like that." That probably wasn't the best thing to say, especially in front of a superior, who for all he knew might be one of those people who'd call him out on killing a nuke. Shin, he knew, would be one of them. While the right to life was important, there are some crimes who's only fittable judgement was death.

Kosei had expected a reaction like the one the Sennin gave, after he'd told her about Gekido. He SHOULD have reported it in. Yea, it was his superior's job to do so, but he was the one who'd encountered him. HE was the one who saw the people killed, not a superior ANBU officer. He wouldn't be surprised if this got him kicked out of the ANBU... although it didn't look like that would happen, thank Raiden. "The people killed weren't really anybody. Common street rats that kill and steal and cling to life in the Cronopolis. And... I didn't actually see him do it. Another ANBU AiT had seen it, though. Oija KaiKai. He's since been promoted to mempo, at the meeting you held the other day on the third floor. He said that it was self defense... and... well... Ma'am, I was honestly scared. I only know of him though reputation, but I know that what he did was... just... I feel like he could have killed me right there. I... I took a video of the bodies, if you want it." he said, reaching out his palm for a transfer of the video memory taken with a Snapshot jutsu. A surreal feeling came over him... and he hoped it would soon go away.

Rin refrained from goggling at the kid in disbelief. "Why did you fail to get his vital information? Moreover, the use of violence on a runner's behalf justifies extrajudicial execution, as you should know," she stated. Trailing off, she noted to herself, "Obviously we require a squad one-wide review of protocols..." She shook her head. "That aside... You would not receive a reprimand." If Hayata saw fit to even suggest something of the sort, the dressing-down I gave him on reactivation would just seem like a gentle confession of love.

Her disapproval was nearly palpable as she accepted the memory transfer and reviewed it. Experiencing another's perceptions so intimately was always somewhat disconcerting, especially the first time with another chakra-user. Disorientation was normal, and many shinobi, upon their first attempts ever with the jutsu, experienced a sort of vertigo that often ended in vomit. Rin had fortunately become much more accustomed to the new technique, but even she had to admit that it was usually unpleasant. "Hn... Communicate to Ouja-san that his presence is required immediately. I will not reprimand you for not engaging the Inuzuka--you made the correct decision. However, you must report these incidents in a timely manner from now on."

For Raijin's sake, if Gekido is turning into some sort of serial killer, I'm going to ass-stomp every last ANBU and then I'm going to take on the Raikage. Everyone would be sorry. "Unless you require something else, you are dismissed for now. Keep an eye on your box for a summons."

As it turned out, Rin wasn't very happy with any of Kosei's decisions, not completely. She advocated not making a move on Gekido, but other than that it sounded like he'd really screwed up. And, better yet, all of squadron one was going to be going over protocol once more, courtesy of Kosei The Not-So-Great. Wooo~... At least he wasn't getting punished. He'd just take to heart what the procedures were for events like this one. Yes, it was true that the runner had taken a hostage, and yes, Kosei could have killed him. He knew he should have, but he'd heard of dumb things like people having their shinobi careers ended for "murder" or some bullshit like that, when in reality it was just their job. What point is it to teach someone how to kill, then punish them for killing?

Kosei bowed to the Sennin, replying with a quick "Yes, ma'am." and turned around, exiting the nuclear bunker-like office. He jogged up the many flights of stairs, then, once he was above the ground, doubletapped his headset to turn it on, then dialed it to the correct frequency to reach KaiKai. "KaiKai... Hey, Sennin Rin requires your presense immediately in her office in the Sileo Tempestas. It's about our run-in with Gekido. I think she needs your perspective on it." Kosei walked the rest of the way home. He was tired, and couldn't wait to plot down on his bed the second he got into his house, and crash.

KaiKai had been working on one of his puppets in his quarters when he got the call on his headset from Kosei. After much hopping around dodging large heaps of puppet material to get to the headset, KaiKai plucked the cigarette from his mouth and responded back;

"Roger that Kosei, thank you."

KaiKai stood up and stumbled over to the overfull ashtray laying on his workbench and extinguished his smoke, giving a slight cough as he did so. What did the Sennin want with him? Well seeing as the message was from Kosei, the young AiT he had met while observing Gekido, it could only really be about the incident in the Cronopolis. KaiKai sighed, this was going to be bad. Pulling on his shirt and his pants, KaiKai gave life to a puppet on a modeling hook and walked it over to himself. KaiKai collected his bag of shinobi supplies as well as a carton of cigarettes.

KaiKai then made his way as quickly as possible without sprinting. Once he approached the Sennins door, he knocked politely requesting permission to enter. When it is given he shall come and stand before the Sennin and give a salute and then stand with arms behind his back. He hoped that this would go smoothly, or at least end quickly with the least amount of pain possible.

Rin summoned the boy in. "Ouja," she said by way of greeting after he'd stepped through the door. "In Kumo, we bow, not that hand wavy thing." She squinted at the new operative and laid down her stylus.

"So. No doubt the trainee gave you an idea of why you're here. I haven't received your report about what occurred with the Inuzuka. I expect a full report now, and I want to know who you reported to--if you did--and why you didn't--if you didn't."

KaiKai might be in a load of trouble. He had not been on duty when the incident occured but then again, what ANBU is never "on duty"? KaiKai thought for a moment about how best to approach and explain this but first decided to let her know he was a tad bit in the dark.

"I'm afraid that Kosei did not very well explain to me what this particular meeting is about, but I can take that it is about Gekido." and if Kosei had already been there then he had just given her his report. Great, now KaiKai got to tell her why he didn't come running to her immediately with the news of the former nuke that had returned to the village. In fact now that he thought about it a bit more he felt really stupid for not coming in sooner. He was not sure whether to be grateful or spiteful towards Kosei for bringing this to the Sennins attention.

"I had been off duty in the are of the Cronopolis when the subject Gekido was assaulted by several of the local drunks for his money purse. Obviously these men were extremely drunk or extremely stupid but I digress. Sadly for some of the men they met their fate at the hands of Gekido and his.... pet. I approached him to gauge what had occured and he seemed stable enough and he had attempted not to murder most of them. At this point the Trainee Kosei made his appearance and did his job very well, I was impressed by his thoroughness.

KaiKai wanted to give Kosei a good report, he had done his job well and KaiKai respected another puppeteer. On he went.

"I'm sure we should have led him here to you or another superior as soon as possible, but Kosei made no move to escort him nor to arrest him, so I let it slide, not that we could have brought him in against his will anyways. If I thought that I could bring him in I would have, but I honestly did not know Kosei's capabilities and I have to say Gekido's reputation precedes him."

KaiKai sighed inwardly and prepared for his scolding for this next part.

"I failed to contact anyone in regards to this, I was relying on Kosei to make his report." This was a horrid excuse, but it was really the only one that he had.

"Kosei is a trainee. You should not be relying on him for decisions, Ouja. If you were in need of back-up, you should have made the call. Moreover, you should not rely on a trainee to make a call when you were the first at the scene. I find your judgment in this matter was sorely lacking." Rin rearranged the writing implements on her desk as she spoke. "I must say I am disappointed. I expect that you will also find your way into the next ANBU course on protocol. It appears we did not do a sufficient job of training you. I allowed myself to be misled by my own hopes. This gap in your knowledge will be rectified and I expect that it will not happen again during your very long career."

"That's all, Ouja-san. You are dismissed," she said at last, after a sustained and awkward silence had fallen between them. He needs more personal attention, yet he has become so disconnected. What can I do to resolve this? He would be a most useful operative, if only he could be more fully integrated. We don't need another child murdered for want of socialization. The challenge always seemed to be finding a way to weave each individual into the ANBU tapestry, to make of them all a unit, together, rather than units, alone. The Corps could not survive as an archipelagio of loosely affiliated states.
