Watashi wandered around the hallways of the school with a slight semblance of familiarity. Even though the young boy hadn’t spent too much time in the school (who would want to do that?), his previous expeditions into this previously uncharted territory had left him with at least a basic idea of what was where and how to get there. With his trusty batch of tools in the bag he had slung over his back though, Watashi was prepared to begin his exploration anew. He might even want to – and he gave a slight shudder at the thought – check out some of the classrooms and students. He was sorely lacking on knowledge of what was going on now that the others had gone silent and he had to go on that journey to the mountains…
Reaching the fork in the hallways, Watashi turned away from the route that he knew would eventually lead him to the Home Ec room. Watashi hesitated there for a moment thinking about how he could make some explosives instead of looking for a bunch of bookworms but reason somehow prevailed and he started walking onwards with a hand trailing along the side of the hallway to give him some direction. The kid counted his steps as he went, trying to visualize his exact location in the school based on the specifications that Naohiro had given him.
“I heard Maru’s still dinking around here,” Watashi mused to himself as he walked, slightly unnerved by the silence. “Wonder if that means he’s become one of those high guys.” Here Watashi laughed a bit at the irony of the situation. The rest of the boys disappeared, meanwhile Maru was out rubbing elbows with the nerds. A fine situation indeed! Watashi turned another corner up ahead and patted the right pocket of his backpack to make sure everything was in order. He couldn’t afford to keep distracting himself with all those stupid thoughts. If Watashi was in luck, he might end up stumbling on the greatest menace of all – low rank nerds!
