Ao awoke to the smell of the sweet and salty morning air and the sound of calm seas. He slung himself off of the hanging bed he had been supplied with in a corner of the hull of a small shipping vessel without making a sound. He then climbed up the narrow ladder to the deck of the ship. The sun was just appearing from over the horizon, though some of its light was blocked by an island. Ao tried to make out some details of the island from where he stood, but the light emanating from the sun hurt his eyes and made him turn away. One of the members of the ship’s crew walked past Ao and informed him that they should be at Tsukigakure with the next hour and a half, and Ao thanked him for that information.
The letter Ao had received from his fox companion informed him that he should proceed to Moon Country as soon as possible. Ao knew very little about this land, despite his attempts to learn more from the sailors who transported goods from the Fire Country to the mysterious island country that was steadily growing closer to Ao. Once in the city called Tsukigakure Ao was to book a night’s rest at a specific hotel and then await his next letter. Apparently whoever had called for Ao would be able to find out that he had arrived, as Ao had no idea who had reached out to him or how Ao could contact said person.
Ao had assumed that it was the queen of the fox clan, but he could not know for sure. Ao decided that he would go below deck and meditate until the ship came into port.
Before Ao knew it he could hear the sounds of the crew above him moving quickly to prepare the ship to dock. Sounds of sailors shouting at each other coupled with the sounds of wood creaking and sails flaring to life in the wind made a symphony of sound as Ao broke from his meditative state. Once more he climbed out of the hull and looked up the beautiful capital city of Moon Country before him.
After the ship docked Ao paid the remainder of his fee to the captain of the ship and took his leave. It was still early in the day so Ao figured he had some time to kill before he had to find the inn he had been directed to stay at. Besides, he was positive that a local cook could shed some more light on this mysterious island nation. Ao turned in to the first restaurant he found and asked the cook for his specialty.
