Two files lay open on the desk before Yatamaru. A curious assortment of notes, photos, and newspaper clippings filled each one to the brim — this begged the question: who was so important to require the man's full attention?
Yatamaru ashed his fifth fully-spent cigarette into an onyx ashtray as he closed both of the files. Standing up, the man began to pace a little. He was growing impatient; had the letters reached them yet? He was curious how they'd do. They, of course, were the two people detailed in the files. What they were doing, however, was another question entirely. One that they'd have to figure out for themselves. That was the point, wasn't it? To see if they were ready. Usually there was an order to these things, but Yatamaru had taken a special interest in them. It isn't often that one hears of such remarkable tales of tragedy and intrigue. After all, they'd both quite literally managed to cheat dead, in their own respective ways. Talent like that was hard to find.
Maybe they reminded him of himself, a little. To that, he felt the desire to help shape and mold them. No, not desire: he needed to. Was this...guilt? Suffice to say, his motives were complex.
The time for second guessing himself was far passed. They would be mobilizing by now, on their way to meet the challenges of the life they both seemed to desire. A life of death, of struggle, and of deceit. Would they be able to handle it? Only time would tell. As for Yatamaru, he would wait patiently. He'd know if they'd succeeded or not, in due time. Lighting up another cigarette, he anxiously awaited the results.
In the dead of night, two children were roused from their likely slumber: Oshiro Tetsushi and Kanmuri. Whether they slept soundly in their beds, walked the streets with nothing but their thoughts, or had escaped to places they thought no one else knew about, they would be found. Not by a man, woman, or even a child, but a crow. A Common Sunagakurian Crow, to be precise, with an oddly pale coloration compared to others of its species. These crows had not found them by accident: each had a small scroll tied to their leg. The birds would not leave them alone, pestering them in whatever way they could to get their attention, until each of the children retrieved the scroll so clearly meant for them. Once the message was completely delivered, and its task was completed, the crow would fly away — not before giving off an ominous 'caw' as it flew out of sight.
The scrolls were small, but their importance was large. They read as such:

The message was written in blood; human blood! No normal person would treat such a threatening and mysterious letter seriously. A normal person would throw such creepy calligraphy away, perhaps brushing it off as a sick joke. Surely it wasn't really a blood-written message, right? A normal, sane, person would have gone back to what they were doing, quickly trying to forget the nightmarish letter they'd just been witness to. Surely, that was the right course of action to take — it was just common sense. ̣̟͖I̟͍̱͕͖ k̷̤͔͉̱̘n͏̫ow̨̲̘̟ ̶̺̱̹̯̫̳̗w͚̼̞̪͙͔h͔̟̮͖at͎̬̤̖ ̛̮̖̱y͙͖̼͉̰͖̻o͈͈̦͇̮̩u̶̗̞̤̫̲̥ ͇͉̟̲͙w̮͚̩a̢̩̮̣̖n̰̣̦̣̦̲̳t͈̜̞̱͕̤͘.͎̲̠
