Ninpocho Chronicles

Ninpocho Chronicles is a fantasy-ish setting storyline, set in an alternate universe World of Ninjas, where the Naruto and Boruto series take place. This means that none of the canon characters exists, or existed here.

Each ninja starts from the bottom and start their training as an Academy Student. From there they develop abilities akin to that of demigods as they grow in age and experience.

Along the way they gain new friends (or enemies), take on jobs and complete contracts and missions for their respective villages where their training and skill will be tested to their limits.

The sky is the limit as the blank page you see before you can be filled with countless of adventures with your character in the game.

This is Ninpocho Chronicles.

Everyone followed in order of arrival, so the fancy dressed young man stood. Hoshi deducted he was older than the young cloud nin. He spoke scarcely, seeming unprepared or maybe, just really blunt and up front. Hoshi nodded at his words as he took his seat and the next would rise. It was the boy he had seen in the field of the training grounds, he introduced himself as Hisame. His words were short, seemingly playing the cool role. His display of action rather words gave Hoshi the insight that he was of the Haku bloodline. The temperature would drop, though Hoshi wouldn't mind having been accustomed to Kumo's colder climate. As Hisame descended back into his seat Hoshi also nodded, throughout all this time he was recording a snapshot of the entire class, so he wouldn't forget a single detail.

Next was the Hyuuga, Yukio, he spoke in his anbu ambitions proudly, Shouyu would smirk sharing the same ideals, he could relate to him once again. Nyura addressed the class next, seeming straight forward as Yeong, making her intro short as well. Next was Keiko and she seemed to have a goal contrasting from the others. Hoshi gazed in her direction intently, maybe he felt the same for his own family, and he looked away almost getting lost in personal thoughts until Kiri spoke. His eyes would grow wide and turn his head, once again paying attention.

Kiri had the longest introduction, but Hoshi listened all the way through. Kiri gave out short and long term goals to whichever Hoshi could agree too with a nod. His extensive speech finally ended, Hoshi chuckled at his older brother. Even if he didn't seem like he was trying, he always gave off a feel that he was a smart ass. Hoshi's eyes closed and he chuckled once more before the teacher instructed the students to find a card attached to a stick under their desk.

Hoshi retrieved the item seeing there was a front and back with yes and no. There was going to be eight questions and Shiori was first. Hoshi held the card in his hand, listening to the question and Shiori's answer. He had been on a mission with him before and with most of his answers Shouyu could agree, but for different reasons. It was refreshing to see someone who had a different thought process, but ultimately the same goal as him. Shiori concluded his answers, Hoshi cleared his throat and would give his answer of every question, in succession of Shiori.

Hoshi revealed his card.

“1. A Shinobi must survive on his own all the time”

Hoshi answerwd instantly.

"Yes. If a mission requires a single Shinobi, you should look out for number one, on the contrary."

Hoshi would flip the card.

"If a Shinobi is part of a team, the life of your comrades should matter just as much as yours. The strength of a single Shinobi is immense, but a team can conquer any obstacle."

“2. Assisting civilians is not advisable while on a mission”

Hoshi sighed, he flipped his card.

"No... I care for each citizen of my village. And even those of the fire country I have come to know."

“3. We fight regardless of the situation if we encounter another village shinobi”

"No. Engaging in combat I feel should be at the bottom of a Shinobi's list. Unless, diplomacy has no effect, well then, what else choice do you have? Plus if that were the case, I don't think Kiri or myself would be here today. I am pleased to have this opportune chance with all of you by the way."

Hoshi would bow lightly after his answer to the class, and separately to Takeshi.

“4. Killing the enemy is the only way to survive”

Hoshi's card yet again remained on the same side.

"No. Again, to kill should be a last resort, those enjoy though just have an insatiable blood lust. A Shinobi should only kill if it is to protect."

“5. We must take supplies when on a mission”

Hoshi finally flipped his card.

"Yes. I always bring supplies with me at all times, and also scavenge what little I can find on my journeys. Things as such are essential to survival."

“6. We cannot provide food for ourselves out in the wilderness”

Hoshi flipped his card once more.

"No. A ninja should be adept at hunting or fishing, some missions include staking out for days just to get a single piece of evidence or information. You must provide for yourself when rations get low."

“7. Failure is not an option for a Shinobi”

"No. Shinobi are more than capable."

“8. If you lose a fight, death is the only option”

Hoshi paused at this question. In every fight against a credible Shinobi Hoshi had lost. If death truly were the option, he would have been dead before all this started. Hoshi's answer remained the same.

"No... but one should treat every fight... whether a spar or life and death... as one that COULD cost their life, so in short... You should always fight as if, your life IS on the line. It is the only way to access your true fighting spirit. I wouldn't take any chances."

Hoshi snuck a side eye glance at Kiri from the corner of his hues. He set down his card and reclined in his seat.

Placing the pamphlet down, he took a moment to listen to the other students give their responses. The fact that the teacher had smiled at his answer in the same way that he had smiled at every answer after him informed him that his response was at least just as good as any other. Despite his outward appearance, he had little need to prove his excellence to others, and thus lacked any desire to make a show of himself to the other students. Simply getting by the teacher's notice would have been enough for him now, and it seemed he had accomplished this.

As time went one and more introductions were given, he realized that the academy was filled with the same old rhetoric that it had been when he was still classified as a student. The reasons for being here hadn't seemed to have changed at all. He found it to be somewhat disappointing, having been drawn into the room by a new found interest... only to have that interest to be found not worthwhile, and now this. Turning his attention back to the teacher, he watched the lesson plan begin to unfold before him.

Sliding a hand from his sleeve, he grasped under his desk to find the indicated card attached to a sleeve pinned beneath it. Pulling it out, he spun it from side to side, eying both sides of the card. He was tempted to fan himself with it, no doubt the flap of paper would give him quite a nice breeze that might supplement for the buildings AC and the warm climate. With a sigh, he knew that such things would have to wait as he heard the teacher begin to ask the entire classroom a question that they were expected to answer.

"A Shinobi must survive on his own all the time.”

Crossing his idle arm over the desk, he propped the card holding arm up by the elbow and held up the 'NO' side of the card. When the teacher looked his way for a reasoned response, after going down the line, he stood up to voice his reason why. "A shinobi must be capable of surviving on their own, this is true. However, the defining part of the question was the last three words. 'All the time' implies that one does not act for or with the betterment of others. If one does not work as a team, or with one's own community, then they fail to be a part of anything other than themselves."

"Assisting civilians is not advice while on a mission.”

He was still straightening his hanbok underneath him by the time the last student answered and the next question was asked. He almost gave an audible sigh to the wording of the question, it was as though they were phrased in a manner to cause debate. Once more, he raised the 'NO' side of his card in the air and waited until the person next to him answered. "Again, it's a matter of the questions phrasing. If the mission was to assist civilians, then it would be completely advisable to assist them lest you fail your mission entirely. One assumes that they would be briefed on the parameters of the mission beforehand to know whether or not this was the case."

"We fight regardless of the situation if we encounter another village shinobi.”

Begining to sense a pattern, between questions he simply laid the card down so that 'YES' faced up to the air and that he would only need to flip the card backward to reveal the 'NO' side with every new question. It seemed like every one of them had to be worded in such a way as to make them answerable by a yes or a no, and in doing so made them so polarizing as to be answerable by either with a carefully worded response. Flipping the card back up to 'NO' again, he stood to reply. "It would be foolish to fight one's own allies, especially if one's duty were to guard or escort them from one location to another. If we were in conflict with every other village, then this would be acceptable. Currently, it would seem we are not and thus it would be folly to answer yes."

"Killing the enemy is the only way to survive.”

With a slow and calming breath, he maintained his composure and outwardly refined mannerisms. For some reason, though he normally loved to answer questions, the simplicity and phrasing of these he found annoying. Perhaps it was the way they were stated as truths, to be refuted by every student in the room. He found refuting falsehoods to be tiresome and not worth the effort. Raising the 'NO' side of the card again, he stood back up. "Killing an enemy that could provide intel on a greater threat would be a loss of resources that could harm the village or the requisitioner of the mission. This does not even speak of the fact that the enemy may be the target of a mission of which they were meant to be captured alive. Killing an enemy guarantees only the elimination of an immediate threat, not survival."

"We must take supplies when on a mission.”

There was that trick in the words again. He heard the student to his right change them in his response, but that wasn't the question they were being asked. Shaking his head, he raised the 'NO' side of his card for the fifth time straight. "What we must and must not do will always be dictated by the situation and our relative positions in it. 'Taking' supplies might mean to forage goods from the wilderness, sure. It might also imply theft. If we were to steal from those allied to us or those we would protect, then what good do we serve in their eyes? Preparation is key to a successful mission, one must 'take' the supplies necessary to the completion of any task and plan on how to complete it should such items go lacking."

"We cannot provide food for ourselves out in the wilderness.”

His eyes darted down to the pamphlet, then back up at the teacher that asked the question. This one seemed to have no point to it at all and seemed in complete opposition to the more innocent interpretation of the last question that was asked. Lifting the 'NO' side of the card back up, he shook his head which caused the small strand of hair that hung at the side of his face to bob back and forth. "We must be able to survive in the wilds if we wish to be capable of self sufficiency on long term missions, travel between countries and tracking in the uninhabited stretches between urban areas. This is basic information that every shinobi should know."

"Failure is not an option for a Shinobi.”

Now, this was a question more worthy of debate than any of the others before it. Unlike the previous, he felt that this one likely could be answered with either side of the card, but he could already tell which way his answer would go, simply by the path he had chosen in answering all the previous inquiries placed to him. Raising the 'NO' side once more, he stood up and continued to rally against the questions given. "Failure is not an acceptable option for a shinobi, but it is an option nonetheless. A living shinobi, for example, is a far more effective tool for the village than a dead one. One must weigh the importance of one's mission against the survival of oneself or one's team. When the cost of success becomes so great that it threatens all other things, failure becomes an option one must consider."

"If you lose a fight, death is the only option.”

This time he did sigh, and audibly, as this was yet another question predicated on the last. His answer to the last should have covered this as well, and yet the teacher posed them as separate problems to be solved. Raising his 'NO' card again, he stood and straightened out the wrinkles his hanbok had developed due to the constant repetitive motions. "Losing a fight gives one the opportunity to learn from failure and become a stronger shinobi for it. To become better through failure is one of the strongest lessons one can be taught, to simply give up and die weakens us all through the loss of experience and strength. One should always seek to survive a fight, even a lost one, so that they may share their experience and training with the rest of us so that we may all grow stronger for it."

The boy let out a sigh as he grabbed his little sign. He would raise his sign to answer the questions as they were asked, and he paid little attention to his classmates answers.

1.) No, this one was common sense. We were a village. "..." The boy raised an eyebrow to express his disbelief that this was a question.

2.) No, it all depended on the mission."..." His face stayed blank as he answered this one.

3.) No, This was obviously incorrect as there were foreigners in this very room. "..." His eyes darted to each of the Cloud Shinobi before looking back at his sensei as if saying really?

4.) No, once again it depends on the mission. While killing the enemy wasn't necessary it is very much an option though. He let out a sigh, this one he did feel like answering aloud.

"While it can be the only way to survive, or the easiest way to maintain the missions integrity it honestly depends on the mission. If you are a diplomat it wouldn't be wise to slaughter everyone you see."

5.) No, it depends on the mission. A Shinobi should be able to live off of the land for long enough to complete the mission. "..."

6.) No, hunting or fishing or even foraging should suffice for anyone with any actual talent. "..."

7.) Yes, failure is not an option. Even if one has to give one's life to complete a mission it is to be completed. "If you can accept failure as an outcome then this isn't the career path you should follow..."

8.) This one was slightly harder. Mercy should not be accepted, but the mission must not be lost. If it is life and failure or death and completion then one was obvious. Yes. "In the grand scheme if you aren't willing to give your life for the mission you shouldn't have taken in."

“Why did you decided to answer with that choice?”

Their instructor spoke with a tone of clarity, giving each of the students a fair amount of time to respond and at their own pace. The first question was simple enough, and it was evident from prior experience that this was false. To compromise the group for the sake of oneself only shows that priorities do not lie with the village or the task at hand, but rather with self gain and worth. Neither of which truly will satisfy a wounded heart nor mind.

“1: No. Cooperation and communication is key to ensuring stability in any scenario be it a battlefield or a village.”

This was a difficult one, due to how open it was. The scale of the mission truly dictates the answer, but even on a minor scale there are times where setting goals in order of priority is essential. If the life of one onlooker is worth that of an entire town, is it worth saving the one vessel in danger and sacrificing the rest?

“2: Yes. The mission is the priority, and unless their lives are in danger and it does not jepordize the goal, breaking your focus on the objective will lead to more casualties.”

This question was out of place compared to the two prior. The answer was obvious and in her time reading and learning at the academy through mandatory courses she knew that bloodshed was hard to quell once it began. Warring clans and families fought for generations for the honor and dignity of their homes and land; these same entities eventually consolidated into the villages and countries that we know today. So to throw these principles in which the very basis of their lifestyle was founded to the side, it’d be a disgrace.

“3: No. Peace among the villages is something to aspire for at any rank. Integration with one another can allow us better protection for our civilians and growth as a country.”

Back on track it seemed with a difficult question. There are times that in the heat of combat and while involved in the fray it is hard to deny that felling an enemy is a sure sign of success. Though on the contrary, it is necessary to extract any and all information in most cases, and a corpse won’t be spilling their secrets any time soon. In a situation where you are outmatched, it’d be best to withdraw and avoid conflict until the odds are settled in your favor.

“4: No. It is necessary at times to withdraw with your team to ensure success in the end. If you have the advantage and can apprehend the person in question, it's best to do so in most cases.”

This was likely targeted towards the younger members of their crowd, but she felt it necessary to elaborate. In her time in the field she hardly carried more then a single bag and a strap on her thigh for her equipment. Most of which consisted of projectiles; a set of kunai and shuriken, a canteen and food pill supplements. In regards to her shoto and sheathe, she had only just recently purchased it and was still acclimating herself with its use, though it wasn’t a burden as luggage.

“5: Yes. It is essential to have some forms of supplies, even if they are minor. Food pills, water, and a single weapon are the least that should be packed for a journey. Other equipment can possibly be attained during the course of the mission, but ideally one wants to be prepared for anything.”

It almost seemed like this was directed at her due to her response, though she quelled the anxiety to formulate a response. Her focus was turned inward as compared to the environment around her, and she paid little mind to the other students and their answers. The true objective was to absorb what Takeshi had to offer and to utilize it to the best of her ability. These acts of introspection helped build upon her character and she felt thankful, but knew to respond in turn.

“6: No. It is possible to survive without food for a prolonged period of time, and in the wild there is always a chance to come across animals, berries, or even test local fauna for if they are edible with a series of tests.”

Stubborn as always, Nyura’s face drew to be stern and unwavering. To be successful was vital to ones reputation, though she realized the question was expressed with alternative motives. Drawing from her studies and extensive knowledge of written aspects of the shinobi world, she’d speak up to clarify her position.

“7: Yes. It is vital to finish a mission through to the end. If a reckless move is made to attempt this; it was made in poor judgment. There is a time and place to remove oneself from the scene to retaliate or gather oneself, but success is the only option in the end if it's for the right cause.”

This was almost humorous as a statement, being their class was “Survival 101”. If anyone were to answer yes to this, she’d let out a short snicker beneath her breath. Raising the card upward to be acknowledged and to retort she’d feel content with her responses, and seemed to be breaking out of her shell some with this method of questioning.

“8: No. As I said before, being able to rebound after being beat is invaluable. Ensuring you are properly prepared to continue is essential, don't push yourself past your limit. Working as a team you are stronger then as an individual.”

Hearing the class speak and what each of them wanted to do on the path of the ninja he smiled glad he wasn't the only one who had dreams of getting stronger but he knew he shouldn't be focused on what others wanted to do but what he wanted to do. As he listened to Takeshi speak scratching his chin at the questions that were asked and wondered how he would answer them taking his card from under his desk and looking at it with a curious look. As he heard each student speak he could tell each of them knew what they were talking about and when it finally came round to his turn he nodded in confidence. He knew the question he had to answer but couldn't help but think through all of them.

“1. A Shinobi must survive on his own all the time”
That would depend on the mission at hand some would require us to work alone for prolonged periods of time but many need you to work as a member of a team to achieve the objective

“2. Assisting civilians is not advised while on a mission”
Similar to the last question this one also depends on mission parameters sometimes it may be a requirement to assist the locals of the area you are in.

“3. We fight regardless of the situation if we encounter another village shinobi”
No responses to shinobi from outside the village depend on their intent and if they are able to provide reason as to why they are here then a fight may be easily avoided

“4. Killing the enemy is the only way to survive”
In some Circumstances this may be the case especially if it is the objective at hand, though if you are required to gather information then it may be beneficial to incapacitate them

"5. We must take supplies when on a mission”
"Some missions may require you to be light and limber going for a few days without a reliable food source thus taking supplies is all very mission dependant as to explain my answer on this one I find that due to the many circumstances a shinobi may find themselves in it would not be a bad idea to always keep supplies on your person in case you are able to take them if not then at least you were still prepared in the first place"

"6.We cannot provide food for ourselves out in the wilderness”
In the long term it may be required to find food for ourselves, it would be unwise to commit to a mission without being at peak performance

“7. Failure is not an option for a Shinobi”
A shinobi should be fully capable of completing the mission they find themselves in and do it with confidence the. mission takes priority above all things and must be completed therefore failure is not an option

“8. If you lose a fight, death is the only option”
This is a circumstantial one, if the situation you are in is not required to be a life or death situation and could cause an incident on a larger scale then no, if death will prevent things such as information leaks then it is required

Eight questions? Some of which seemed to vary in seriousness.
“1. A Shinobi must survive on his own all the time”

She took some time to think about this one and then came to a simple conclusion. There would be times in which a shinobi would require another person to help them, that was why teamwork existed. Some of the time? Yeah, they would need to but all the time? No, otherwise teamwork wouldn't be a thing.

“2. Assisting civilians is not advice while on a mission”
Severity would depend here and mission level would also come into play. If you're out carrying logs and then someone is being attacked, it might be best to help them. But again, it'd depend on the two variables.

"3. We fight regardless of the situation if we encounter another village shinobi”
Well, seeing as how other people from other villages go from each place, Miyuki would have to disagree with this. There would be no real good reason to attack them unless they attacked you first. But, again, what did she know? She was still learning.

“4. Killing the enemy is the only way to survive”
Not necessarily, sometimes the enemy can be the reason you live or you can make a friend. In a lot of cases, killing the enemy probably helps but Miyuki would agree that it wasn't the only way to survive.

“5. We must take supplies when on a mission”
Miyuki thought it seemed pretty reasonable to take supplies. There wasn't really any reason not to take supplies. Not too much, of course but supplies help nonetheless. Back to the point about her being new, though. Perhaps taking supplies on some missions just hindered people.

“6. We cannot provide food for ourselves out in the wilderness”

She giggled a little at this one as she thought it was sarcastic. There are so many ways to get food for yourself out in the wilderness, you can hunt animals, get berries from trees, you can find mushrooms that aren't bad for you. You could definitely provide food in the wilderness.

“7. Failure is not an option for a Shinobi”
Miyuki would suddenly lose the casual face she had on and look down at the desk for a few seconds. While not entirely her fault, she failed to protect her sister and has hated herself ever since. Sometimes she wished she could have swapped places with her sister, at least that way, it'd have been her and she wouldn't have gone knowing she couldn't protect her sister. Though, her sister would probably feel the same.
"I believe that failure is not an option. It can cost lives, resources and much more." trying not to allow her personal feelings interfere with her opinion.

“8. If you lose a fight, death is the only option"
She believed it wasn't the only option but she understood the honor of losing and wanting to die, she just didn't agree with it.

It didn’t take long before the class would begin, and quite in a serious tone to be honest. Takeshi would not dilly dally on his methods, and the questions he lay before them were part of the cruel world they would soon set foot into, for the kiddos at least, for he and Hoshi had already begun. Then again, despite their appearances, their meekness, eagerness, or childish charm, he could tell it was best not to presume that they all have good lives. It was rather rare for shinobis to be far from trouble, and considering that Leaf was still on the process of recovering, it wasn’t that far from the truth.

And so, as he would listen to the questions given to them, Kiri couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit uncomfortable. Not that he found these questions disturbing, but rather apt. And to make matters worse, when Takeshi spoke that they would have to defend their answers to the question chosen for them, he felt skeptical, suspicious, and just utterly angry for no reason. Probably because the incident was still fresh in his mind that he felt as though he was being scolded for a second time.

But he would let it slide for now as the children began to answer one by one before him. Or could he? He had half of his mind listening to their reasons, to their answers and their justifications as they saw fit, while other half was trying to analyse the situation they were in. Surely a survival class that begins with ideological testing was new to him, but he couldn’t help but speculate that some of these things had become impromptu. Nevertheless, he would place the signs out on top of the table before him.

Shiori’s answer to the question asked of him was rather to the point, though Kiri would may have to think well of his argument there. While it was true that a shinobi life relies on the affectivity of a team, in the long run, only one could be responsible for one’s life, and so he would pretty much answer with the opposite what Shiori claimed.

At Hoshi’s turn, Kiri was left speechless, partly because he finally saw that resilient spirit he always has, and partly because he could tell that Hoshi’s eagerness may have gotten the better of him as he ended up doing something that was not instructed - such as giving his personal defense to every question laid out before them, rather than to wait for the teacher to address him with the personal question based on what was their order of entering the class, perhaps. He managed to look up at the mention of his name, at the rather ironic question. Oh, but didn’t he engage in combat quite too soon? Kiri could only chuckle at the thought while feeling for his beast giving him a mental slap at the back of his head.

Ah, it would seem as though he was not alone in this endeavor, seeing how the kid with the strangely foreign clothes would also do the same in answering everything. Unlike how he introduced himself, he was now quite the silver tongue in his eloquence to justify his reasonings, making him all the more interesting as parts of it were quite acceptable to Kiri, but also because most of it were far too… optimistic. It wasn’t like Kiri had been hardened to become pessimistic, but he found certain traits like this to be rather foolhardy. Osu made him understand that the hard way. Nonetheless, he’d give the boy his due respect.

The following one was rather… silent. Too silent that he was surprised. He had really found himself in a rather interesting bunch today. And to make it strange, the boy made eye contact to him as well as Hoshi upon that question regarding shinobis of a different village. He smiled in reply, as if to say that it was okay, and no need for constrained remarks. But in the few questions that he did seem to want to answer, they were rather committed remarks, something that Kiri found attuned to his own. And the next one was rather brief, though a bit textbookish. It made Kiri a bit worried if this sort of questioning was rather eye-opening for the youth, or perhaps they were expecting something else entirely out of this class. And again, he would be reminded of the burden of the last question for himself, already feeling the strange nostalgia together with perfectly recalling the bruises, cuts and the life-threatening judgments. He clicked his tongue at the thought right before the last student before him began… wait…

He tilted his head as he glanced with a blank expression between the girl who spoke just now and the pale boy beside her, and then he noticed that she actually spoke before him. And while he was always the observant type, he couldn’t help but glance back and forth between the two, wondering if there was some hidden message there, like an unknown trifle or something. And so, the pale boy would speak his part and answering the question assigned to him, Kiri could tell that he was practical, a realist, really. And then, the final student before him finally spoke, very brief but heatfelt. He could tell that there was something raging inside her– emotions and memories– and that she was trying her best to calmly address the questions as she could. He could very well sympathise with that for he knew that aching feeling inside all the time, especially with his beast brother. But now was not the time for reminiscing the past anymore.

As it came to his turn, Kiri felt a sudden return to his slightly upset mood. He had come to see that he was left with that one question from the teacher and surely he would want to hear Kiri’s response to that. With so many things that happened recently, it was just far too much to be a coincidence. This has had got to be planned. So he shot the teacher a glance first before standing up, eyes unwavering and set upon Takeshi. It was almost the same glance he had when they fought at the gates, sans the third eye, and with less killing intent. But still, his gaze remained deep as if to search deep into the green-haired man’s eyes a way into his soul. Because he had a mask during their encounter, it was hard to focus. But now, it was easier, while others would think it rude, it was one of Kiri’s strange quirks– to stare directly at people he found most interested with, especially those in authority.

For each question, he would raise the sign card in accordance to his answer:
“1. A Shinobi must survive on his own all the time” –> [YES]
“2. Assisting civilians is not advice while on a mission” –> [NO] A doctor has no criteria, may they be friend or foe.
“3. We fight regardless of the situation if we encounter another village shinobi” –> [NO] Again, a doctor who finds a battered man on the road, follows an oath to treat them.
“4. Killing the enemy is the only way to survive” –> [YES] Oh, another one. Unless I merely find them tattered to their bones, then my doctor senses would say otherwise. But I suppose if it was already decided to be the enemy I fight per se, I would have to kill them. But!… if it was someone else’s foe, well, they should be lucky to survive their battle, and since I’m not directly their assigned enemy, then they are neither mine. Only then I will have to play doctor again.
“5. We must take supplies when on a mission” –> [YES] I’ve run across a lot of injured shinobis to spend all my bandages lately. So it wouldn’t to hurt to be prepared for their sake.
“6. We cannot provide food for ourselves out in the wilderness” –> [NO] I was born a predator. Hunting comes natural.
“7. Failure is not an option for a Shinobi” –> [YES] Correction. Never.
“8. If you lose a fight, death is the only option” –> [YES]

At the last one, he would place the card down as soon as he flashed the answer, letting the words resonate in his head and soul. To others, it was a code to live by. To him, it had been an ideology since birth. And even after he had been exiled, lived in the forests, and raised along the company of his beast, it still resonated well within his heart.

“Why else am I here?” started Kiri as he answered, eyes not once averted from its gaze on Takeshi, almost as if there was tension but there wasn’t. Then, he smiled and closed his eyes as if he could see everything clearly with images flashing in his memory, almost as if everything had been so vivid it was still happening. “Death to those who cannot serve. Death to those who cannot live. Death to those who cannot be.” Raising a hand along his neck, he continues, though his way with words seemed to have changed far from his usual nonchalance, “I’ve long died, twice, the cold steel against my flesh. And I will still ask for death each time.”

He pauses briefly then turns away, opening his eyes, steeling a side glance at Takeshi with nod. “For now, I first honor a promise to Osu, to my Raikage, to my family,” a glance to Hoshi, then looking away. “What happens after that is simply something long overdue. After all, isn’t that what we live for? To live is to die.”

The silence that came after was rather deafening, no matter how brief or long it was. It was a silence he had not felt for a long time, for even the stirring of the beast inside him was gone. He could tell that his brother did not approve of it, but to deny it was to deny himself. So he sighed and then sat like before.

Takeshi allowed himself to look at each of the students taking in their words and their reasoning. He had to glance around all the time as well to look at the other student’s decisions on each of the votes. It was clear that they all thought independently each of them had a different view and opinion. None of them normally the same which was something unusual. Some of them tried to be quiet still as he frowned to one or two of them.

He allowed a small sigh to come to his lips when he noticed one of his students had been skipped, it was nothing major but before he could ask Yukio a question he got skipped. Stopping the Teacher in his tracks before he returned to Yukio, might as well just ignore it rather than get up in arms about it. It wouldn’t solve the situation at all in doing so, this much he knew.

Finally, there was Kiri, though the kid seemed to be gazing at him as he spoke he just replied the stare, it wasn’t an off-putting thing honestly, it was something that could just show he wanted to get the points home to the teacher. He smiled gently back to Kiri, there was no point causing any issues when they had already resolved things from the gates.

“Right, so now we all know we have a different opinion, I am going to give you a few situations. Each of you must reply with what you would do, why and what effects it could have. Remember this class is survival think about that when answering the questions.”

He would take time for his instructions to sink in, knowing that each of them would be having to respond and think about it. This lesson would not be a field one, instead they would have to use their minds as each scenario would test their knowledge and abilities. He pondered for a few seconds before addressing the class. As he addressed each one of them he would pause and wait for their reply.

“Shiori looks like you are up first. You are on a team mission, one of your team mates during a fight takes an injury to the leg, it soon becomes clear its broken and his ability to remain in stealth and escape the country you are in is diminishing. What would you do in this situation?”

A nice hard question to get started, of course this was just the beginning of the interrogation for the class that he was sat in, it would become challenging for each of them. Once he heard Shiori’s reply he would then move onto the next. This is how it would be the entire time for this part of the lesson.

“Next up is Hoshi, you are travelling with a team mates to another village you have never been to. You get lost from your team mates in a storm and end up at another village gates, no identification. No passport. You meet a Anbu at the gates, what action would you take to resolve this situation?”

He couldn’t help but let himself have a small smirk as he waited for the answer to his question, pondering it for a few seconds before moving onto the next person.

“Yeong Su Han you are on your own, when you see a signal flare for help going. Out of your own country and unaware of what could be waiting for you, how would you tackle this, and what actions would you do when approaching this problem?”

“Hisame, you are looking to improve yourself inside the village, after a number of tasks you find the one behind it all is a rouge Shinobi. One that has been known to the village for a while, would you approach this alone, would you set a trap? What would you do to see this issue sorted?

“Yukio, you encounter another village on a join mission, you are to team up with another member, this mission is highly important to both villages, the only problem is do you let him take charge. Of course, this is harder made by the fact he has stolen Hyuuga eyes so what do you do?”

“Katawa, you are on a mission solo that you find too hard, it’s impossible to finish the mission but it must be done. What would you do, knowing that you cannot handle it on your own. Would you look for help, try something different with it?”

“Keiko you are injured during a fight with another village shinobi, though they are on their own and seemed to be fighting more out of instinct that want. The other village shinobi has come out worse in this fight, leaving you in a situation you are in. What would you do next?”

“Kiri, during a mission you failed to protect a brother, someone close to you. Your actions and lack of control during the fight has seen them killed in action. During the fight, you are injured and cannot do anything to bring the body home with you. What do you do?”

He allowed the words to settle for a few seconds, knowing full well that he would have to see how the students replied.

Leave them.

Shiori was shocked by his initial thought. He wasn't a ruthless person by any means, the thought had seemingly jumped into his head. Where had it come from? He fingered his ring again on his hand, taking time to think.

If he stated his first thought, the others would likely disapprove. It would make future teamwork difficult. If he couldn't work, he couldn't improve and become the best. If he stated something focussing too much on teamwork to the detriment of the mission, he would lose the interest of anyone that was driven like himself. Again, a barrier to advancement. He would try an answer that fitted with his previous one.

"We would move the team member to a safe place. Somewhere they would remain undetected. The remaining healthy members would complete the mission, and then escape the country with our third member, as it would be likely that stealth is no longer an option. Of course, if the third member wished to be left to themselves rather than hidden and feel a burden, I would happily oblige them."

It sounded good enough. Wishy-washy enough to not fully commit to either option properly. His real actions? It would depend on the situation. On how it could work for making Shiori stronger. He reflected on that new line of thought as he twisted his ring around his finger.

Everyone's words resonated with him as they spoke as shared their thoughts. He rock each different perspective, looking at every individual as they spoke. Hoshi smirked at the Hyuuga and Kiri's comments. Next was another question, a difficult one to answer for Shirori but Hoshi felt it was fitting. He furrowed his eyebrows together remembering their lack of teamwork and leaving comrade in turmoil deep in the tunnels beneath the club. He sighed recalling that moment, but he was glad to hear Shiori's answer.

Hoshi froze when Tekeshi posed his question for the young Shinobi. Basically, it was if you were Kiri, what would you have done? The thought was pressing, Shouyu reclined in his seat lazily as result, a clear indication that he was uncomfortable. He even looked over to Kiri, and then to Takeshi before answering.

"I would state my name and reasons why I may have stumbled upon their village. My issue is mine alone, I would request a pardon and maybe some provisions. From there I would seek to find to my teammates with flares and my basic instinct of survival. As I stated earlier, a Shinobi should avoid any engagement as much as possible. I could more than likely die rubbing a foreign anbu the wrong way, and if I by some chance I did succeed. I wouldn't be leaving that village alive. So alas, I would create the chance to rendezvous with my squad and continue our journey together."

After his speech, he cleared his throat. Shouyu crossed his hands in front of him upon his desk and awaited the answers from others. Only this time, his eyes were fixated on his hands, where his thumbs would wrestle each other. Sitting down too long always bored him if it was outside of meditation, and maybe being in a class with several unknowns from a different country made the young preteen shy.

Crossing his arms back into his hanbok, he considered that he had incorrectly assumed the teachers last set of instruction when the rest of the students failed to answer each question posed. Ever more so by the looks that some gave him when he spoke up to add an almost punctuation to their own answers. This time he waited, deliberately so, for those that had answered before him in previous turns to speak up before answering the one question which had been directed at him.

“Yeong Su Han you are on your own, when you see a signal flare for help going. Out of your own country and unaware of what could be waiting for you, how would you tackle this, and what actions would you do when approaching this problem?”

There were a number of variables that he found problematic when the question was posed that he didn't feel were properly explained to him first. Of course, that in and of itself could be a part of the question. One did not always know where one would be in any given situation, so perhaps this answer would require an equal amount of imagination as well as critical thinking to get by. His first instinct was to tear the question down part by part and inspect each loophole for information that he could use to his advantage.

If he were on his own, then was he on a solo mission? A scouting mission? perhaps he was defending the border of a rival nation... of course, this assumed hostile intent by any unknown presence. It could be just as likely that he was simply alone and without a mission, a solitary presence out of the country on his own recognizance. It was doubtful that was the context of the question, but he considered it for the sake of being thorough. Considering this was a course on survival, he decided to maintain a more mission based focus and assuming hostile intent on the behalf of any unknowns.

Out of his own country could mean any number of things. The distance had not been dictated, nor the location itself. As had been previously been considered, it could be anywhere from just across the nearest border to entire nations away. Location did not dictate purpose, and thus the teacher may well be indicating to him that such a matter was irrelevant to the question. Those things which remained unsaid could be clues just as well. Harmonizing with his previous assumption, he chose to imagine a worst case scenario where he was far from his fellows and thus distant from Fire Country.

"I would start by attempting identification, and if things appeared to be peaceful of intent, I would move to establish contact. It would priority to test the nearby area for threats before proceeding directly to the source of any call for help, for the reasons behind the original call would be unknown to any responder." He frowned, realizing that his own words belayed a sense of naivety that he did not feel his own thoughts portrayed in this matter. Closing his eyes and letting forth a sigh to refresh his thoughts, he continued again.

"First, assertation of threats in the target area to secure the safety of myself and those that would be calling for rescue. Second, the recognition that no trap has been laid by a hostile force or unknown enemy. Third, establish multiple venues for retreat should the situation turn hostile despite the first two checks. Lastly, establish contact with those in need. Should they themselves prove to be genuine, then render all due assistance I can accommodate without putting any mission I may be on at risk." Opening his eyes again, he nodded at the completion of his thought, hoping that the teacher's emphasis on considering survival had shone through in his answer.

Survival 101 [Lesson/Class] :: IV

“Katawa, you are on a mission solo that you find too hard, it’s impossible to finish the mission but it must be done. What would you do, knowing that you cannot handle it on your own. Would you look for help, try something different with it?”

It was her turn to reply and she intended to elaborate on the question, to touch base on the possiblities that may be at play within the situation. It was a slight annoyance, a peeve even, that many of the instructors and members of her class addressed her by her family name. It was almost an insult seeing as her parents had no active role in her childhood. Deciding not to respond, save with a subtle grimmace, Nyura nodded her head. Her answer was defined, but it was necessary to flesh out her outlook as to properly integrate herself with the class. Rising from her seat once more, and giving a short glance to the few members of the crowd who had spoken before her, she promptly replied with a sweet and honeyed tone from her rosy lips.

"It is essential to gather information for any mission, no matter the scale. If my initial approach was not successful, I'd search for methods in which I'd tip the scales in my favor. Perhaps there is little to gain in this manner, and I know that I will not be able to perform my duties to the village and fulfill my obligation. The ideal route would be to withdraw and be re-tasked along side other shinobi to ensure completion. But if time were not on my side, I'd do my best as a kunoichi to sway the odds in my favor with local forces, ensuring discretion is taken to keep all parties both safe and satisfied."

Clearing her throat after her short narration she'd run a hand through her rustic blonde hair, and receed back down to the wooden seat beneath her. Jotting down several talking points and notes on others responses, she'd remain attentive during the lesson. She felt at ease not having an enormous amount of pressure placed upon just her lonesome inside this near hollow room.

Yukio pondered on question he was asked listening to each student as they answered their respective questions. It was an interesting question to say the least very hypothetical but interesting as this meant it was a possibility he could come across while out on missions. Living a sheltered life he didn’t know eyes could be transplanted meaning he could come across any form of visual regardless of what village they are from or family name they take.

Taking the time to think on it he was curious how he would act in such a situation. It was not something he would come across haphazardly but is still a possibility and that was something he had to bear in mind.

“Well in the end no matter what my personal feelings may be the mission takes priority, when it’s a matter of two villages interacting it’s best to keep personal feelings no matter how important they may be to you. If you struck out at that moment it would affect the village as a whole and not just yourself and would not lead you any further to improving yourself. At the end of the day the mission takes priority and if you don’t see it through you will fail yourself and your village. Personal feelings are something that should be handled at a later time and place with proper information gathering”

He was confident with his answer but was still uncertain about how he would actually react in an uncertain situation such as that at this point it was mostly guess work to say the least.

Over the period of the class, Miyuki had noticed the skipping of students because other people butted in first. She didn't think it was bad for the class, just slightly unfair on everyone else. Though, she would end up skipping the boy that was usually before her as well, so she was a bit of a hypocrite. Everyone, individually, was asked a question about what they would do in a specific situation, all were different situations, some easier than others to deal with. Miyuki's situation was as follows;

“Keiko you are injured during a fight with another village shinobi, though they are on their own and seemed to be fighting more out of instinct that want. The other village shinobi has come out worse in this fight, leaving you in a situation you are in. What would you do next?”
This was a complicated question to Miyuki because she liked to think about everything that'd make this situation happen and what it would actually take for her to perhaps kill the person.
"Despite being injured are they still trying to fight? Are they trying to purposely kill me? Or are they trying to understand the situation as much as I am?" She tried to think about it logically and then realized that it was as simple as - They were trying to kill her out of instinct, what do you do? Though, she was trying to come up with an idea that'd involve not killing them, she came to the conclusion that it might be the only way.

"Depending on how injured I am, I'd question them, asking why they were fighting me and what they were doing here. If they didn't respond, I'd forcefully try and get an answer and if they continued to fight me, I'd kill them and seek immediate medical attention. Seeing as how they are more injured, I have the upper hand and can risk asking questions as long as I don't let my guard down."
Miyuki was entirely aware that what she said was probably wrong and sounded stupid but she wasn't used to on-the-spot questions or situations in which she would actually have to do this but that was why she was in this class and as such, quietly waited to see what the teacher had to say next and to listen to the other student's answers.

There it was– the time seemingly reassuring response from the teacher, a gaze and a smile to his answer. Kiri could very well tell that things were past the gates, if only on the surface. But only time could tell when the class would soon have to experience a far more serious questioning. And it would appear as though his earlier suspicions were true – that this class would prove to be sort of an interrogation, but also set in a way as if each student is accessed by their understanding and approach of the scenario. He would observe from where he was seated, hoping to get more understanding about the people that were there with him, partly expecting a few replies going to be quite expected of their age and possible experience, if not entirely informed by their academy years. However, there came the buffer.

Kiri’s quickly perked up at the question to Hoshi, to which he briefly looked at his brother, and then side glanced to Takeshi. Had this been a different situation, probably a few months earlier to be in context, Kiri would no doubt have been letting lose a bit of his demonic aura, for the very obvious reason that the question was far from being innocent. Was the teacher trying to drive a wedge between him and Hoshi?

Inside, a swirling of his chakra was evident in his soul. A flash and his mind was now in his soulscape – a world of endless white. He stood at the centre, though no one really knows the actual dimension and location of certain spaces in this world, for it was his soul’s materialising space.

“Calm down,” said his brother, a figure that resides in this world, a man of a few years older than him, standing just behind him. Almost instantly, a wave of shadowy mist erupts fromt he ground to swirls around Kiri. “You’re not helping anyone when you’re being easily angered like this.”

The blonde takes a few moments before the shadowy mist resolves itself and he turns back to look at his brother. “But he’s clearly trying to pick a fight–“ His brothers hand quickly touching his head quiets him, though Kiri still manages to make a small sound of protest.

“Everything is a test, you know that. Life is lost when we lose ourselves,” answered his brother before he ruffled Kiri’s hair and added, “You’re stronger than this, remember?” Hesitant, pouting, seemingly childish, but inevitably, Kiri would nod.

Opening his eyes, Kiri found himself in the classroom once more, hearing the faint sound of the students’ voices until it grew audible. And he looked to his side to find the girl answer the question given to her. He was slowing his breathing as to calm himself before he was finally asked his question: “Kiri, during a mission you failed to protect a brother, someone close to you. Your actions and lack of control during the fight has seen them killed in action. During the fight, you are injured and cannot do anything to bring the body home with you. What do you do?”

He took a minute to process the words, even when he was slowly getting agitated again because of the premise of the question. Then, he would stand and answer with neither arrogance nor nonchalance, but a plain seriousness in his eyes as he looked at Takeshi, “No matter how clouded the mind becomes, the heart knows. I will kill myself before it brings death to anyone I hold dear. I know it’s only hypothetical, but I’m saying it now, even in hypothetical situations, I will not allow a possibility. I will die before my brother. And so will all the enemies.” He takes a moment to catch some breath, “The only time I will fail in anything, whether to protect them or take their body back home, is when I’m done and dead. Because as long as I continue to breathe, no matter how broken the body is, I will never stop moving. There’s no purpose to be alive when the other is dead.”

Straight and consistent with all his answers so far– it was what he believed in. It was probably not what the teacher wanted to hear, but for Kiri, such possibilities have always been in his mind and always he would have the same answer. That was why death was the ultimate answer to everything that fails, for failure can never be accepted.

Takeshi let his hands remain folded as he looked at the students, listening to them and taking in each of the words that they were speaking. It seemed they had all put in some thought into this lesson and it was challenging them to do the best that they could. As he leaned back into his chair a small frown came to his lips as he saw once more Yukio had been skipped, the student recovered quickly and went.

Fair credit to the kid for going for it, even after he was skipped again.

It seemed that they were all getting involved in the lesson, which was something amazing. To see students so engaged and interacting in a lesson was beyond his belief. He smiled as he looked around at each of them before they finally finished, he wasn’t about to answer questions or waste more time. They all seemed to have done well and all knew how to get involved and demonstrated an understand of helping each other out.

As he stood up he looked over to everyone that was part of the lesson, a friendly and warm smile on his face as he admired their passion and drive. He knew full well that they were just starting out and of course would still be learning. As he looked around letting everyone to settle down he clapped his hands together to get their attention.

“Well class, today signals the end of the lesson, I am here to hopefully give you a little insight onto how others act and how you have to think quickly on your feet. It doesn’t always go your way that much is real”

His voice calm and collective as he spoke to them all, addressing them in a blink of an eye he looked to each of the Shinobi wondering how they would turn out in the end.

“Class is now dismissed. You may go on your normal day to day life, or linger here and talk with each other. Oh by the way, Monday morning I will be taking a more in depth lesson on this. I hope you are prepared for this one. If you wish to attend it’s the same class room. Be warned this one will be a lot more indepth, you just scratched the surface of survival. Have a good day.”

He smiled at the class and headed out the door ending what would be the lesson as soon as he finished talking.

The class had been an insightful experience, and with the closing statements of their instructor she'd rise from her seat and jot a quick note of the next class down in her booklet before closing it and heading off to the doorway to continue her daily business.

The other class members had given interesting answers. It seemed he should have gotten to know them during his time at the academy. It was a shame it was so late in his training before his Genin exams that he actually reflected on them as people. He shrugged inwardly, chalking it up to inexperience.

Almost randomly, Takeshi stood, ending the lesson. It surprised Shiori. He had been starting to get into the lesson, laying out his views on the innate superiority of certain individuals over others. But then, it had ended. He fiddled with his ring as he thought upon the concept of innate superiority.

The offer of more classes grabbed Shiori. There were plenty in this class. Maybe there would be plenty in the next? He hoped so. He stood up, nodding to the teacher as he stuffed pages into his bag.

"Thank you for the lesson. I will be sure to attend the next lesson."

As he packed his bag up, the pamphlet also made it in. Waste not want not!

As he tried to exit, Takeshi was already walking out the door. It was very awkward following a teacher out of the classroom.

Everyone gave their answer and once again, the Genin was intrigued by the answers of his classmates, although he was a little distressed to hear nothing from Hisame. He concluded the Shinobi probably thought he was too cool for the other students. Soon after the teacher, Takeshi would conclude the class and lead out the door. Hoshi would elect to sit and allow all the others to leave before e exited.

The class came to an end. She would agree that she definitely got to understand the opinions of those around her and the ideas they brought with them. Some people wanted to be the strongest in the world and to achieve great things while others simply just wanted to survive, like she did, with no real, crazy aspirations. This definitely opened up some new doors for Miyuki, ones she'd have to think about.
She thanked the teacher for the lesson and then made her way out of the door, heading off in a random direction.
